  1. Laral seemed a rich, spoiled, country girl that wanted to be a spoiled, popular girl from the capital. She briefly behaved like that. Then she married Roshone. Now she is a capable, arrogant woman in control of her town.
  2. I agree. Sadly it means only evil incarnate can really look everywhere in a book for clues.
  3. Z raises a good point, did you rip the book out and check the binding?
  4. Which is why Ghostbloods are at the top of my list of suspects. They are not normal, they know things, and Mraize (and I bet others too) have the needed focus, control and cold blood for it.
  5. No, my entire argument was based off the assumption no-one knows it was Adolin. But the Kholins will be prime suspects, which is why I rolled out all the rest. I am assuming no-one except maybe Renarin knows, as a WoB basically Adolin hadn't been seen.
  6. You have to be very, very, very cold blooded to kill someone the exact same way, and then to leave them in the exact same position. Need to remember every single detail of how he was left, then have the control to arrange him identically. A normal person couldn't do it. Its why when these things happen irl its usually a sociopath or psycopath, who don't feel empathy the same way as others. Most other people would make a mistake, tremble, or puke their guts out in the process. Alethi may kill a lot, but its usually even in the Thrill, so don't have the requisite cold blood and control for this.
  7. Honestly, I think too much thought is been given to the phrase "a spanreed to the queen regent". Its probably synonimous to "a spanreed to the capital", which actually seems very reasonable. You have to keep in mind in old times, the king, the throne and the capital were often seen as the same thing. Top picks for where to have a spanreed is the local capital (Sadeas stronghold), country capital (Kholinar) and relay station. We see two of those, and maybe they have the third as well.
  8. I'm pretty sure Truthwatchers wouldn't give a figs' worth on what the world thought of their visions, if they did have visions. KR of old were at the top of the food chain, they would be revered, and if seing the future was what they did seing the future would be revered. Vorinism was a mixture of children trying to wear their parents clothes (lets pretend to have some radiant abilities to rule all) and greedy men taking advantage of chaos to rule (lets impose a lot of restrictions that make ruling easier, like safehands which remove half of the population from getting some of the coveted Shards). Vorinism came later, KR were earlier, and they could probably set whichever rules they wanted to and people would accept them (when they were still honorable and their better selves). I am not certain if Renarin is a normal Radiant or not, I'll probably be on the fence till I see him surgebind.
  9. My top picks are Ghostbloods, followed by Ialai. Ghostbloods reasoning 1: use as a cover to get rid of people they want to kill it. Uncertain, they must have easier ways to get rid of people. Ghostbloods reasoning 2: gain more control over Shallan, or call it like bringing her brothers back, a gift by removing suspicion from the Kholins Ghostbloods reasoning 3: throw shade on Kholins to get more power, and because they have a past of killing Kholins Ialai reasoning 1: to force back focus on investigation Ialai reasoning 2: revenge to hurt Kholins Ialai reasoning 3: try to float the murderer of Sadeas up Truth be told, the hardest part of this murder is that its so hard to know who it will hurt and who it will benefit. I suspect it will depend on who can play the cards best. For it been Ialai its dangerous, as its a gambit where if she loses she basically loses the entire game, she'd likely be executed or exiled. Ghostbloods are a bit higher on my list as they are very cold-blooded and controlled. They also have practice at keeping secrets. Adolin could be the one to benefit or lose the most, could be found guilty or be left completely in the clear. I do however think he needs help fast, mainly for moral support, partly to help him juggle the balls, as its going to be a complicated game. Renarin is my third pick for it, but quite behind the other two. He is likely been just a Truthwatcher, even if there may be something iffy with his radiancy. Of course he loves his brother so much he could have done it in an attempt to help, but doesn't entirely fit. I seriously doubt Sanderson will show any more posession on SA than the parshendi. Its too cheap and easy to say a villain is a villain because they are possed, and it makes for worse villains. Give us a complicated, tortured villain and we will love him much more than generic ones.
  10. Good point, possible I guess. Poor Ishar, everyone suspects him of everything from the weather to secret societies due to a phrase or two ^^.
  11. No, Adolin has a lot more blond hair than Renarin. At least half, if not closer to three quarters. Renarin must have a quarter, or a third.
  12. We are not sure Shallan was future drawing, it might have been the past or present. Or when she was drawing herself it could be said she wasn't "seeing" the future as much as "hoping" for it. (Illusion becomes reality, paint herself as a greatlady and she becomes a greatlady)
  13. When I read the Windrunner book (TWoK) I deeply admired them, although I realized I'd never behave like that When I read the Lightweaver book (WoR) I found an order where I could feel comfortable. When reading a tiny excerpt from the Bondsmith book (OB) I said, "Damnation, didn't think I'd find an order I would fit even less than Windrunners. Seems I was wrong" A storm blowing the wrong way and changing parshmen appears Average Rosharan Leader (ARL): So what? Bondsmith: A Desolation has come. We must unite. Me: A Desolation has come. Call me when you decide you want to survive. ARL: I have infused spheres. I'll sell them to you. B: Alright, what is the price? Me: Alright, incidentally you are at the end of the queue of the Oathgate, if you are still here when the next highstorm comes, too bad. Or, me: I've put a tariff on the use of my Oathgate. Price, every bit of stormlight you have. ARL: I am an ARL! I demand respect. B: Alright, I will draw out spheres of influence in Urithiru. Me: My city, my rules, you don't like them, door is that way. Red storm going on out there, but well... details. ARL: I refuse to listen to you. B: Don't you see what is going on out there? Together we can survive, please listen to me. Me: Fair enough, who am I to interfere with free will. When you decide you want to be saved come to one of these spots, and I will take you somewhere safer. Bring stormlight. Meanwhile I will save those smart enough, or with a strong enough preservation instinct that they can be saved. The ones too dumb or too greedy to survive will die (The Mummy original one anyone?). Evolution at its finest. After all, win-win, maybe I save humanity and average IQ in Roshar goes up by 20 points. Or else we all just die. I really don't have many Bondsmith instincts ^^. Still, will be fun to read.
  14. Absolutely. Was just a random thought I had while writing 5 oaths . Brandon's numbers are often relevant, but uhm, I guess sometimes a blue curtain is a blue curtain.
  15. I'm not so certain of this. Eshonai in WoR thought they were only Five. First Five Dullform, as the only form they knew, then Five Workform as the one they discovered, it was only with the next disovery they decided to make one leader per form.
  16. Thank you. I'd upvote as I usually upvote helpful people, but I haven't been able to give a single one since I woke up ^^. So, she may write it during OB or afterwards, depends how fast OB progresses.
  17. One thing is clear. Whoever ordered and actually did it had to be extremely cold-blooded and meticulous.
  18. I think they are applying the term full KR to Third Oath and above. But its just Shallan there as Kaladin is flying around hunting Voidbringers. On Shallan and her bond, she never killed Pattern, but her bond just degraded. I think a WoB says she may have once been at the Five Oaths. Daaam, just had a random thought. Five Oaths, Five Parshendi leaders, coincidence?
  19. What was the timeline of the excerpts from her journal in WoR? I always wondered that, as dates is something I get lost on. On Renarin...all I'll say is there is something unusual about him, and I'm nearly sure he knows what Adolin did. Other than that I will wait and see.
  20. I was kind of hoping Urithiru would be welcoming and appealing to radiants, while alien and strange to everyone else. Was a bit dissappointed to see Shallan struggle. I'm 50-50 with too distraught to grasp it and magical issue.
  21. I'm strongly leaning with worldhopper. Mraize is a worldhopper with a damnation impressive collection of Cosmere souvenirs (including sand from Taldain and a branch from Yolen, both of which Khriss can't enter), I'm pretty sure if he says "that creature is not human, or at least not from Roshar" he is right.
  22. Great post, I'd upvote but I'm out of them. I personally think they can fit all or a good chunk of Roshar's population into Urithiru. They get in 8 warcamps worth of alethi in (maybe half of Alethkar?) , and they barely make a dent in the space of Urithiru. They also probably have enough farming lands that when added to soulcasters humanity could take refuge there indefinetely. Each floor will probably be very tall, 5m minimun, after all it may be a refuge but its also the center of the KR power, stately, graceful, awe-inspiring, etc. So, refuge/city/fortress/palace all into one.
  23. Its a dumb idea because Elhokar has shown he is easier than a toddler to influence. That much power will need to be on the hands of someone that is very responsible, and ideally embody at least some ideals of the KR. Right now KR have bad reputation from the past. People see abilities = Radiant. Having an irresponsible, tantrum throwing man-king flying around will increase people's doubts about the greatness of the Radiants. Honestly, Dalinar and Shallan need to hire a PR manager stat. If our Adolin-fan favorite theory of awaken blade comes true, its quite possible he would have to progress quite a bit (second or third ideal) before he sees any effects. Enough to live the oaths again. On the other hand it could mean gaining a lot of abilities at the same time if/when he does . Not so sure...wasn't it a broken wrist from his fight with Szeth? Could take quite a while to heal. Its just been a week, and everyone can see he isn't resting it all that much. Dalinar's Calling was always Leading. He said it in WoK. Difference is it has "changed a lot throughout his life" or something like that. I totally agree Kaladin should be the one to decide who gets the Honorblade, but not because he earned it. Those simplistic might makes right ideas should be abandoned at the door when the end of the world is knocking. Kaladin should decide because he is 1. Very advanced on his Oaths (for current Radiants) 2. A Windrunner who embodies the ideals that Blade is meant to be attached to 3. The closest thing they currently have to Jezrien's heir. Also, yes to whoever said, we are 95% sure Dalinar has the blade. Unless it has been stolen or already given to someone in the past week. Yes, the second murder helps Adolin's case a lot if he can keep his cool and handle things right. You have to be very meticulous to spin all the threads right, and while I love Adolin, I don't think he has the skill or composure for this. I'm hoping Shallan finds out and helps him, as she definetely can handle it.
  24. Tsk, I don't see what is wrong with this comment, must be what everyone (not the readers obviously) were thinking. Ugh. That makes sense, its so bloody Dalinar. Never mind that Elhokar has shown 0 ability at anything, and the end of the world is not a good time to coddle grown ups where that same Hnorblade could save thousands of lifes in the right hands. I also can't help that feel that Kaladin should have a say on who gets the Honorblade, given he is the only Windrunner around, shouldn't he pick someone he feels can embody the ideals? Otherwise they may be falling down the "too much power in the wrong hands" again.
  25. At this rate maybe once someone like Jasnah arrives they should start charging for entering Urithiru, and see if people finally stop trying to profit off the storming end of the world.
