I think I wrote something...half a dozen pages ago or so . Doing it for Moash may show hope for the future. Although I'm half expecting the next chapter to start with a second punch for his family. In any case, in TWoK or WoR (rereading too fast so not sure which) he says the two men who wrecked his life, and that he hates with all he has are Sadeas and Amaram. No mention of Roshone at that point although we had seen what he did already. I think it was on WoR. Roshone, as someone said already, did follow the laws deplorable as they were. Amaram was outright treason/betrayal. Sadeas was beyond inhumane. Wait and see .

Lol, this is my worried face. Okay, I guess even Adolin could eventually lose...but after the 4v1 duel even Sadeas was quivering at the thought of facing him. And Sadeas was a genuinely good duelist. Then again this could be the twist, they force him to duel when severely injured and he evnetually loses a duel. *sob* p.s. do you think we could convince the mods to give us 16 extra upvotes on day of chapter sample release? and maybe another 16 per day the week after OB release?

Absolutely! Cookie too? The only slight thing, is that Dalinar may need to abdicate as highprince soon, and pass the pricedom on to Adolin, to fully embrace his Bondsmith role. I agree he is the ultimate authority in Urithiru, but similarly, he needs to leave behind the Alethi trappings, including Highprince of War. And granted, appointing highprinces to roles may not be inside his authority. Unless he says those roles just apply while in Urithiru, if so, totally works. The sweet thing is, if by the time its found out Adolin killed Sadeas he is already highprince I doubt they can do anything legally against him.

On Elhokar: When there is a void of power that the person which is meant to fill doesn't occupy, someone else will fill it. And that goes double when the world is ending. He needs to accept this fast. I hope he goes in a good direction, but he is my least favorite Kholin, as he is the the one I have least sympathy for. He had years as king, and years before that to prepare, and he did nothing. He would be respected if he were a great warrior (not too hard seing as he was a full Shardbearer since he was a toddler, unlike his cousins who either didn't have it, or had to earn part of it). Or if he were a great commander, strategist, politician, or even if he were good with people and likable. Now...we will see if he starts learning, or if he just throws out obstacles. Or just goes to the darkside. Come now, was just 260+ . Unless you also read all of reddit and Tor... And yeah, I'm out of upvotes too, so...cookie?

Syl is not a saint . She has strict ideas of right and wrong, but she likes pranks, and is not against a tiny bit of revenge. Remember in TWoK when soldiers beat Kaladin after the first tower assault? She tripped the soldiers afterwards and stuck their spears together several times. Not too serious, but she didn't say "I cannot take a small amount of revenge as that is totally wrong".

Thing is...you can't unite by being a carpet. Specially for petty children and squabblers. He tried that in TWoK and we saw how wonderfully it went. They need to build something new, not continue on the useless old that just leads to death.

It is very unlikely that Mara would be Lirin and Hesina's child, even adopted. Lirin says "Leave my son alone or I won't heal the injured, and Mara isn't ready to do it herself". A child, even adopted would not undermine her father's threat. Basically, the statement doesn't imply enough family loyalty.

On the other hand, you could say its the best time to be a Kholin! Get a close friend 24/7, get to glow, and get cool powers! In exchange you just need to deal with a stuffy church screaming as you take their power, and vulture politicians screaming as they become more insignificant. I am all for keeping secret forever. Although he will most likely tell some people eventually. Renarin, Shallan and Kaladin are at the top of his list. But keep in mind Adolin loves his family more than anything, its the one characteristic I would give if asked to say his most important attribute. Of course he would be happy his father and aunt (who already does a great part of his mother's role) got married. He is not the sort to let his own problems hinder the good times of his family. This was certainly part of it. But mainly it seemed what it looked like. He hasn't been mothered or cosseted for 5 years, so he took 30min to enjoy the moment once he saw it was safe, knowing it would soon end as he'd need to take the reins. Oh, I'm sure that that is the main reason. We're just having fun at imagining wild unlikely but fun possibilities . And part of what made that line so sweet is it shows more Kaladin-Adolin bromance. Once he wouldn't have noticed, or ignored it, or thought badly on Adolin for judging clothing. Now he read more rueful at Adolin but in a fond way. At least that's how I saw it. Yes it is...but at the same time there was a dark edge is his statement. Maybe nothing will come of it, but maybe he is getting ready to roll in bad directions. But agree it was quite mature. (Sorry out of upvotes already, so can't give you one) Seriously? Adolin may be one of the least cowardly characters in all SA. D: "You need to go win an assault with half the forces everyone else gets" A: "On my way" D: "You need to win an infinite number of duels or our house comes crashing down" A: "Consider it done" Like maxal said, any other radiant character has refused to acknowledge past actions for years, but apparently non-radiants have to be 4x more brilliant than radiants to get half the recognition for readers.

Don't we know all Shards have a number? 10 for Honor, 9 for Odium, 16 for Preservation, 5 for Endowment. Could be 8 is Cultivation. Honor+Cultivation does have a certain simplicity for KR headquarters.

Unlikely that he will be arrested. He already said in WoR he won't be caged/imprisoned again. Doubt he will waste any potential stormlight on such pettiness. Besides, he didn't come home for soup, hugs and minor lighteyes squabbles. (Although I'm sure he enjoyed the first two). He came to warn all of the Everstorm, and help for what is coming. As well as make his way to Kholinar and fix whatever is going on there. By accepting his Radiant identity at the end of WoR, he already acknowledged the future was going to change, and he wasn't going to be regarded the same way. In chapter 6 he separated Captain Kaladin from KR Kaladin as two different men. Its true he might want to talk in private with his parents first, but he will likely not hide the truth, at least not for long.

Dang, thanks. I always remember the Roshar alien landscape, the different seasons, years, days and hours but always forget different oxygen and gravity. Some points from before: Red wedding dress, just yesterday I passed an Indian bride with a red and gold sari as wedding dress. Keep in mind different cultures, and Alethkar specially been almost Asian orientated. Edit, the sari was gorgeous . On someone that asked glyphs significance, Shash was dangerous, Kaladin got that after an escape attempt. Is pointed out several times most slaves who earn that are killed on the spot.
-
Thats actually very likely a slavery offense. In TWoK they say Leyten was sent to the bridges because the strap of the breastplate of a lighteyes broke and he died, so they sent the blacksmith apprentice to certain death (who hadn't even done the breastplate). Even mentions the blacksmith likely kept extra apprentices just for those cases.
-
I was actually surprised that the 2 lines we got from Roshone seemed kind of mature. He didn't sneer at Kaladin or treat him like absolute trash as soon as he walked in. Again, could be Kaladin has grown so much he doesn't even notice lighteyes sneering any more. Some in other forums are saying Kaladin was impulsive and rash, but the impression I got was actually one of utter control. Except for the half hour he was eating soup and hugging his mom . But that was just consiciously relaxing before getting ready for his next lap.
-
Thats definetely impressive. Hats off to your father.
-
This is actually quite impressive. 90 miles (144 km), would be roughly 30 miles (48 km) per day. Without Stormlight. You can walk that in the first day maybe, but for 3 days in a row... Makes me wonder if KR are stronger than normal men due to the Nahel bond, even without stormlight. He doesn't look tired enough to not have slept in 3 days, just depressed (nothing new there). He also had to stay still during the Everstorm. Could just be a mundane explanation such as he is in good shape, and stubborn, but could also be something more?

I agree. But at the same time, when the world is ending, you move and do what you have to do to save it, or you watch it all get lost. If the alethi grumble too much Dalinar can just kick them out of Urithiru (try to open the Oathgate without a Radiant). Enough alethi have enough brains to know the end of the world has come. The ardentia is most likely going to go down the chasms like crem-water. Doubt they will be able to survive the rise of the KR, what with the masculine and feminine arts, the spren, the almighty, lighteyes above darkeyes, appart from their own reputation within the church. Maybe Vorinism can drastically change and survive, but I doubt a religion is that flexible, specially when it shatters all their power without fast thinking. Much better to be chull heads, risk humanity and oppose the change. Ending with either destroyed world and no church, or succesful KR and no church. I'm a great proposer that Alethi and KR need to separate sooner rather than later. Elhokar can accept Dalinar above him for the moment, then they separate or risk Roshar. It been Elhokar, not sure which he will pick. Ialai, I'm sure we haven't seen the last of her, but the time for politicking is over, at least among the alethi. With other kingdoms, maybe there is still some diplomacy to do. The Alethi have had 2 books of their pettiness, and they have seen first hand it all come to a head. Get with the program or die. Ah no, that was just me reminiscing over Adolin having killed Sadeas. (Hearthstone's highprince). Honestly, I'm just not too worried about the proof. It can be showed nicely, or it can be shown more harshly, but he has living proof just a thought away.

I didn't find Navani's gloryspren to be strange. She has been since TWoK trying to snatch Dalinar, now she did, any woman would be smug of having finished the hunt. And I mean that in a positive way . I don't know if she will be an antagonist, not my gut feeling, but I have a feeling she holds secrets, or depths we have yet to see.
-
Poor parents. Shock incoming. Soon to learn their baby is (if still considered Alethi) probably on par of importance with a highprince, if not closer to the king. I'm curious, my first instict was obviously Dalinar, but did that mean Elhokar? Real power vs theoretical power. And 3 of those lifetimes in 1 year. Could give anyone whiplash. Have I said already how much I love Adolin? Yes! Out of the depression. BFFs And thats enough to make a man a slave and destroy their life. Nothing new, but reminder of messed up country/religion. I thought he just fell to the floor, but now I wonder, is he unconscious? Hmmm, so much in 1 statement. 1. Calls him friend still, no resentment, just a kind of pity it seems 2. I expected the first hit to be for his family, or Tien. p.s. sorry by so many posts, doing a reread and putting all my ideas as I go.
-
Did anyone else feel all through the previous 2 books that Kaladin was the favorite kid? Tien was deeply loved, but with Kaladin...it seemed more. Specially for Lirin. Also, so TWoK and WoR took roughly 4 months together? That seems fast. On previous posts saying summoning Shardblade would incite panic...he can just summon it for a second then let it go. It may not be perfect, but its a lot better than wasting time that he knows they don't have. Plus, if these 2 chapters showed us anything, its that he has embraced the Radiant identity. He is not thrilled to have light eyes, but he is not ashamed of what he is. And when you say Kaladin is rash and impulsive, give him a break he is 20 years old . (Although sometimes I want to throttle him too). Just on my WoR reread though, he explicitly says Stormlight makes him more impulsive than normal. His most impulsive moment (4v1 duel) he was practically high on Stormlight. (Which has already been shown as a slight drug).

Words of Radiance wasn't written by Navani. It was written long ago, soon after the Recreance. BUT WoR had some chapter's headlines with sentences from Navani's journal, may be why the confusion.
-
My first impression of what Hesina got cut saying was a new sibling. But of course could be totally wrong, and I imagine they would have been around if it were so. I don't think Kaladin did anything stupid in punching Roshone. He evaluated the situation, he saw the Voidbringers were not an immediate threat, so he enjoyed home for a short time, before deciding to fix some past wrongs/baggage. Roshone seems surprisingly "nice". Just typical arrogant lighteyes, but almost nice. If he had behaved like in Kaladin's flashbacks he would have demanded Kaladin arrested on sight, to gloat to Lirin, and would have never let the filthy darkeyes into his home. Instead he actually addressed Kal as a human . I seriously doubt Kaladin would ever use Syl to fight a poor guard, if he summons her it would be just to stop a fight before it starts. Also not sure the requisitioners would have given Kaladin his slavery writ. Why bother? Just summon Syl and questions fixed. I'm glad his eyes turn brown again, oh, and change from first draft. Before said his eyes were blue when he used Stormlight or used Syl. Now just says Shardblade, no mention of light. Wonder if this will be said later or was a change in "abilities". Personally I'd prefer if it was just with Shardblade, as Kaladin always keeps some Stormlight inside him when he has access, except when he sleeps, and the lighteyes need reminders of darkeyes running around more important than them. Also, poor Vorinism is going down. How sad. Their options are acclaiming Dalinar as a prophet (or something), which they won't do, or become insignificant within a decade. Sadly, they may do a lot of damage between now and then.

Not having read any comments: AAAHHHHHHHHH I started very dissapointed not to see Kaladin chapter, but soon changed my mind. Dalinar and Navani marriage by the Stormfather!!! Perfect and hilarious. Rosharan weddings must truly show whether they are true or just pomp thanks to helpful spren . Kaladin chapter! Depressed, as usual. But then he fights up and resurfaces. I absolutely love how everyone keeps tiptoing and behaving as they always did (threatening him, darkeyes-lightyes rank, parents treating him as their little Kal. All the while thinking, darn, they really don't realize their baby has grown up . But expect this to end soon. Fighting over how to keep him free of his writ of slavery with the highlord (uh, Sadeas, he is kind of busy, should be on the Beyond by now). While reminiscing, well Dalinar gave his Shardblade for him when he was a no-one. Pretty sure he is worth all the Shards in Alethkar by now. Roshone is a better man as he feels guilty? Huh. Count that -10 in expected predictions. Best moment: tie between parents hugging him and punching Roshone

Speaking of squires...how likely is it for Rlain to be one already?
-
I think Tor are secret Odium agents, practicing for Herald time by releasing the chapters at a time when most of the world is awake and constantly looking at the clock.
-
Nightblood isn't strong/powerful/invested enough to destroy Odium. But it could maybe hurt him.
