Ah, whatever. I'll move to a full player. But don't expect too much activity while the LG's still running.

What am I talking about Elandera's helping run two games at once I can handle this.

Signing up as... Faleast, who somehow got ejected from the cosmere again.

@Elandera Is it too late for me to drop out? Can I switch to backup? Sorry, just having a lot of things to do recently. realized it's probably for the best if I don't play this.

You're now listed as a pinch-hitter. :)

I don't know if I could call what I'm doing with your game helping.... but really, GMing is much less time-consuming than playing.

By the way, since rollover is at 10pm my time, I probably won't be on for like the first 10 hours of each cycle.

I'm in the same boat, it's at 9 PM for me.

Gears summoned me, I have been asked to die play, so I suppose I shall. Hello, fellow persons.

The sharp crack of metal striking metal cut through the din of conversation in the assembly room. Once enough people ceased speaking, the High Minister’s assistant cleared their throat and spoke.

“Welcome to this emergency session of the Superiority Council of Ministers. It has been called by the Department of Species Integration to discuss what they deem as disturbing and aggressive proposals from the  Department of Protective Services.”

Kaviq saw shuffling and gesturing as the gathered crowd showed their support or displeasure. Kaviq only barely suppressed their own gesture of annoyance, especially at seeing how many seemed to be in support of the baseless claim.

The High Minister’s assistant continued in their flat tone. “Keras of the DSI, you are the one who pushed for this meeting. It is your chance to lay out your concerns.”

A tall, red Dione adorned with antique steam-powered paraphernalia stood and pressed its lips together as it looked around at the gathered ministers. “We have done as the Department of Protective Services has asked and brought in lesser species to train. The tactics deployed by the DPS have been beyond aggressive.” It looked to Kaviq’s boss, Winzik and twitched its fingers. “They trusted us to protect them, help them into citizenship of the Superiority. Instead, dozens are dead. I move that the DPS no longer be in charge of the training program, and that the DSI take over the training of lesser species against the delvers.”

Its declaration caused an explosion of muttering among the members, and several annoyed gestures from members of the DPS. Kaviq would almost call them angry, but they were above such base emotions. Who did it think it was, suggesting such a preposterous idea? Kaviq almost started to speak, but the metal gavel cracked again to quiet the room.

“Keras has placed forward a motion,” said the assistant. “Does anyone second it?”

A heklo from a different department gestured to get the attention of the assistant before speaking. “I second the motion placed forward by Keras and the DSI.”

Kaviq clicked in annoyance. They were pretty sure they recognized the heklo as one who’d worked on projects with the DPS before. Layala? Was that their name? Either way, Kaviq dismissed them as an ambitious being who seemed to be trying to play both sides. It would be their end.

“It has been officially noted on the records of this emergency council. As per our bylaws, both sides will have an opportunity to present their points. You have two hours to choose a representative and prepare your opening statements.”

****

Layala took a deep breath as they stepped out into the open air of Starsight. Being cooped up in the assembly room surrounded by so many beings was overwhelming, but necessary. She was there to make a difference. And maybe mark out a little piece of history as her own.

All sorts of beings flowed around her as she set off on a walk. She would not be taking part in the official discussions, and so had two hours to relax before having to listen to the debates.

The aggressive move by the DSI was unnerving, but not nearly so much as what had happened to the poor recruits. Layala made an unconscious gesture, almost as if to try to ward off the heightened emotions. The lesser species who’d signed up for the defense program knew the dangers.

Something grabbed her limb, startling her into silence. A large varvax, looking at her through the globe of liquid on their suit looked down at her and gestured for her to remain quiet.

Layala bowed her head to show she would comply as they led her away, keeping a tight, almost painful grip on her limb. She couldn’t shout, though, couldn’t alert anyone without being aggressive. Instead, she let the varvax lead her away.

To their headquarters.

Through the maze of halls.

To a room Layala hadn’t even known existed. There, in the middle of the room, was a black sphere floating above the ground.

A nowhere portal.

The varvax forced her forward. As soon as she made contact with the sphere, she felt herself stretching. Impossibly stretching towards the nowhere. To nothingness.

Then there was nothing.

What's up people let's go I suppose. With this many players I'd estimate that there are at most three eliminators, which would put the alignment distribution at 3 elim vs 1 spy vs 13  village. The elims can of course get a conversion if they kill the spy, hence why I think they only have three. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

I don't think I'd give the elims only 3 members to start off with. That's a very small number, compared to the overall size of the game, to bank on them getting an extra member by killing the spy. I'd say it's probably more likely that the elims would start off with 4 members, which is around 25% (a little less). Finding and killing the spy isn't necessarily an easy task (unless the spy is like me in that one game where I accidentally outed myself...), so it would feel odd to base the distribution around the elims needing to find that one player to get to normal levels of numbers for an elim team. Though, do the elims need to kill the spy themselves, or do they get the conversion if the spy dies at all?

Also, hello everyone! It's been awhile since I've played. It's been a hard few months, with school and covid and stuff. I'm glad to be playing SE again! And hello to all the new faces. I think like...7 of you are brand new people to me.

Assuming a worst case scenario, where all villager kills hit only the spy and other villagers and no protections land (assuming one village Tenasi), a team of 3 elims could win in:

C1: spy/village exe/kill, tenasi misfire: 4-10
C2: village/village exe/kill, tenasi misfire: 4-7
C3: village/village exe/kill, 4-5
C4: village/village exe/kill, 4-3

...four cycles. That gives the village six chances to guess right- a rough calculation puts the odd of that happening by random guessing at less than 10%.

In the same situation with 4 elims:

C1: spy/village exe/kill, tenasi misfire: 5-9
C2: village/village exe/kill, tenasi misfire: 5-6
C3: village/village exe/kill: 5-4

Three cycles, five chances for the village to guess correctly.

(Note: Disregarding the spy in this instance would decrease the elim number by one, but not change the minimum number of cycles.)

My instinct is 3 players- I don't think gaining a conversion would be necessary to win even in that instance. And the spy can't be taken out of the picture until at least the fourth cycle, giving a fairly good chance that a kill will hit them by mistake.

Gotta say I agree with Striker on this one. Three seems too low with a player list of 17, even with the possible conversion. Xino does make a good case for 3, though. Additionally, with a quick recheck of the rules, the elims get a conversion if the spy dies at all, so they don't need to be the one to kill them.

Out of all the roles, I find the Cambric the most interesting to me. I've never played with that specific mechanic and I'm interested to see how it will play out.

(Also going to add the 'kill them politely' tag earned my upvote before I read the fantastic writeup :D)

So funny story everyone... I messed up and accidentally broke my own game. The game is now closed! I'll be redistributing PMs/roles. If you're in any docs, please close out and remove them. I'll be getting rid of them.

xD

Two questions, answer them now, after the game, or not at all: :P

  1. Can we see the complete first player list?
  2. Can we know how you broke it?

Ha, first time reading the game thread and it’s already over. XD

My guess is that there were more Elims than she wanted. Completely basing this from what the thread was currently about, maybe we had 4 or even 5 Elims and then Xino’s breakdown made her realize that was too many. Just a guess.

I accidentally gave a villager access to the elim doc. Considering it was still early in the game, I figured a reset was better than making someone sit out for my own mistake. I'll reveal the original distribution at the end of the game.

Hello! Sorry for the inconvenience. This game is starting over due to a mistake I made in the PM distribution. I accidentally gave a villager access to the elim doc, and decided a reset this early would be preferable to making someone leave the game for my own mistake. Thank you for your patience. You may begin deposing people once again.

Please do not discuss your original roles/alignments until the end of the game. I will be sharing that along with the final write-up, but I would like to avoid any possible assumptions connected with the prior distribution.

Hello, one and all. I'm considering Rping, but I think at least at the moment I'd rather focus on writing in-game related things. We'll see how many posts I get up this cycle, and go from there I guess. Anyway, I'm not going to drop a poke vote yet, but depending on how many people show up by midday tomorrow I'll probably drop one then.
