Willie was no further than 100 steps when he heard it. The cry of "Hey! Come back here, I need help!" was definitely coming from that same researcher rust and ruin was she trying to drive Willie bonkers. Well it would be nice to finish with Garden 4 so he didn't have to walk back. At that thought Willie made his way back to the Garden to see what the woman needed.

When Willie entered the garden again she hadn't moved yet but she was awake. "Willie herd and cam a runnin, if ye move off that der grass then Willie will listen tae ye story." Willie gestured to his grass clippers once more.

I'm not lurking I just was thinking about my RP. Honestly I don't see any point in discussion of should we release Shards or not because people anyway would do what they want.

Also I want my Survival Shard back! And you guys posting too much, now I should read it all!

One more, if I remember right after someone is converted by Shard overuse this person even if passes Shard still will have Shard's win con, right?

Yes.  If a player is converted by holding a shard, they retain that win con even if they pass the shard.

If i understand correctly, the downside is when and if the shards are released, Hoid and Kriss have a better shot at converting someone who is holding a shard before they change win conditions and thus add a shard to their team.

Neither Hoid nor Khrissala can convert a player who holds a Shard. Although, @Seonid, do conversions happens before ascensions? As in, if a player that gains a Shard tonight is the target for a conversion, will they be successfully converted?

1 Hoid and Kriss out themselves if they are the only two who do not take a charge. This requires Survival to take a charge to prove that Hoid and Kriss in fact did not take any. Also, we need the full team to take an action this turn. We have about ten hours left to make this coordination work.

I'm confused as to how we would be able to tell whether Hoid or Khrissala take a charge, especially because Hoid starts with charges from every Shard. As far as I can tell, all we would learn is whether they attempted a conversion or not.

Um... I just realized that Silverlight is entirely in the cognitive realm.  Would that affect any RP?

The current setup that Seonid and I are running off of is where Silverlight is at sci-fi levels of technology and every other world is as technologically advanced as shown in the most recently published Sanderson book in that world. It's up to you how much you'd like to incorporate the setting or not.

It's is a very nice write-up. Should we be reading more into the text to get hints about who (and what faction) currently has a shard, or not? The final line seems to imply one of the two factions might have gotten the Shard, but it also might just be nice fluff, and I'd like to know which of the two it is.

Also, to echo and expand on a question asked before, what exactly is the order of actions during the night cycle? Say someone manages to get a Shard, is attacked once (and wouldn't have an extra life apart from vessel protection) and is recruited by both factions that we know of, all in the same night cycle. What would happen?

Haha. I had to read this a couple times to understand what you were saying

Lmao I see how that could've been confusing.

My last post before turn's end. I've only skimmed so far, hopefully will catch up during day turn.

I'm of the thought that we shouldn't announce which investiture we are aiming for. More information in this situation will only help the elims and make it easier for them to plan and choose their targets to help their wincon. Even though the setting is different, the aim is the same and village will hopefully do what's best for the wincon in regards to shards. (It's late, I'm dizzy)

As village, we should put our thoughts in thread and let other villagers judge (so to say) our alignment (it's weird this game due to conversions) but with conversions, a different agenda in a said player should help us with their alignment. Hmm. Also, let's be careful about PMs as well.

@Seonid a few questions:

1. Are there secret roles?

2. Do we now know how many converts Hoid/Khriss have?

3. Can Preservation’s Investiture be used to survive lynches?

4. Can Hoid fuse shattered Shards?

Posted

I'm at work atm, so ruining down all of the possible interactions will be difficult.  Here's a rough order of actions for the night cycle, though:

Burning investiture (except for shardworld actions) happens first

Then, redirects and roleblocks happen simultaneously (roleblock circles cancel the actions of everybody involved) (if a redirect would be blocked by a roleblock that they tried to move, the redirect gets priority)

Then, conversions happen - if a player is targeted by both Hoid and Khriss, both conversions fail.  This is also when the check for Shardic Intent conversion happens

Then investiture gets stolen, passed, or traded (see roshar) shards get passed. If a player passing a shard was converted by their Shardic Intent in the previous step, the pass will be cancelled.

Then protections happen (including extra life abilities), followed by kills.

I know I'm missing a few abilities, but I'm pretty sure that most of them will fit right in between passing shards and protections.

Is that clear enough for the moment?

3. Yes.  Any ability that grants extra lives and can be used during the day cycle protects against lynches

4. Nope

Aww, thank you. I'll leave it to Seonid to answer that question. As far as fluff goes, in general I'll avoid putting deliberately wrong information in the writeups, but I may take artistic liberty with things I see happening in the game.

Wow...posts. So many posts. Strategy I’m not even going to try to dive into. I’ll look this over a bit tomorrow hopefully, but right now I just want to introduce Div to Silverlight.

——

Div gawked at the sights around him. He’d never been one for science or fancy stuff, but this was certainly impressive. He’d expected to wake up in the Tranquiline Halls, or else Damnation itself, but instead he’d woken to find a strange woman manning the sails of a ship through the strangest sea he’d ever seen, the beginning of a journey that had eventually led him here.

Wherever here was.

He hadn’t ended up on a planet, he knew that. Once he’d gotten his mind wrapped around the concept of there being planets beyond those they knew of in Roshar, the rest was easy. He just nodded and smiled and filed away whatever someone said for later. He didn’t have to understand it to get where he wanted to go. He just had to play along, and Div could play along.

Everyone was murmuring or outright panicking about the Shard of Survival being loose, for instance. Div knew about Honor and Odium, and had been told by fellow travelers that they were Shards, so he figured Survival must be like them. Guy, or thing, or whatever just wanted to keep living, and he could understand that much. Let Survival stay free, he figured. Being free was a better life than being in a cage.

The Survivor tapped his foot impatiently.  The sign said back in 15 minutes.  Instead, he had had to wait...  well, it was hard to tell time in the Cognitive Realm.  Still, it had been far too long. @Hemalurgic Headshot

Oh by the way, is anyone's character a Survivorist? Because that could be interesting...:P

Hello everybody. I would have made this post sooner but the time I had blocked out for this was unexpectedly taken up by other factors.

Getting up to speed:

Quote

Excellent. Well, let's start with a poke vote on... oh, it's a night cycle, isn't it? That's that idea gone, then. :P

Advice - As I understand it, everybody is currently on the 17th Shard team except for Hoid and Khriss. (Survival, as I understand it, is currently a Sharder, and will only have a new win con if they use their power too much? Even so, I'm not really that worried about a Survival win con - I imagine that would be fairly benign and neutral.)

Hoid and Khriss, unless one of them is *extraordinarily* unlucky, and targets the other, will both convert someone tonight, leaving 4 people who are a problem to the Shard. To preempt the discussion that I know is going to happen around a Day one lynch with only 4 Eliminators - I intend to vote tomorrow. Even though the odds are low of catching somebody, the act of expressing suspicion and voting is the best way to catch an Eliminator, and so we have much more to gain by treating the Day 1 lynch as a lynch rather than holding back, because otherwise, we'll never get the information we need to actually catch an Eliminator.

In terms of Young Pyromancer's suggestion of allowing the Shard's to be released... I'll freely admit that I'm two-minded on the matter - on the one hand, I think letting the Shards be released will cause a lot more problems down the road. On the other hand, I look at the actions that having charges gives you and I think "I want some of that", and I'm sure most other players do to. (I'm sure that was entirely Seonid's point - I'm pretty sure this whole thing was based off of the Tragedy of the Commons.) On the upside, tonight is the *one* night we can act and be assured of no interference from Hoid or Khriss - they only have one action this turn, and they'd be foolish not to try and convert tonight. As such, just for tonight, I'm going to advocate that we try and distribute charges in such a way that we can be sure the Shards won't be released. (Though we won't know until Seonid wakes up whether there's enough to go around.) This does require a little bit of openness from everyone about what Shard they'd like to borrow from, but I think that could help the Shard overall as well. In that spirit of openness, I'd like to humbly request taking a Charge from Cultivation, but if there are too many other players who want PM's I'll bow out (and then hope one of them PM's me :P).

Gah. I *know* there's something I meant to talk about this night turn, but I can't remember. Never mind. I'll think about it and come back ranting and raving to the thread about it more than I already am. :P

I completely agree that we should have a lynch on the first cycle.

As for keeping the shards contained... I have mixed feelings about that. It could be a good tactic in the early game. But later on we'd definitely need to abandon it because at some point Hoid/Khriss factions will have enough people to bust out shards even if everybody else is trying not to.

lots of kills

Pretty sure this is a conversion game.

But because of this, I think it's pretty safe to conclude that you aren't Hoid or Khrissala.

Don't have much to say, as of yet, but I will be rereading the rules a lot and seeing if I can be better than Seonid at knowing them so that I can break the game by cheating the rules.

Oh, so NOW you're reading the rules, hmmmmmm? :P

Cool.  I missed that.

I see you lurkers!  What are your thoughts on planets?  Does anyone want to rank them?

@Drake Marshall, @Devotary of Spontaneity, @TheMightyLopen, @Steeldancer

As I said, I was interrupted from reading the thread four hours ago when you posted this.

But, challenge accepted. I'll rank the planets.

1. Roshar. Changing types of investiture sounds very useful and adaptable, particularly since the action can be taken during a day turn.

2. Scadrial. Can only convert charges into one type (preservation), but doesn't take any action to do that, plus preservation is one of the more useful types anyhow.

3. Braize. Killing power is always useful, and this killing power isn't restricted by planet. Two investiture charges is a nontrivial cost for it though.

4. Taldain. This is a handy upgrade to actions, but I don't see planetary restrictions being as important as other things. But I'm also inexperienced with shard games so idk.

5. Nalthis. I generally don't think much of vote manips, but that's 100% personal opinion.

Gotta go, back in a bit.

This is a public service announcement. Before the game started, Elbereth was helping me put together the spreadsheet to keep track of actions, alignments, and such. She wasn't able to finish all of the formulas before the game started, so she made a copy of the blank spreadsheet to finish them and send them to me. Due to a glitch in the way I removed permissions, she ended up still having access to the main spreadsheet, and accidentally accessed it instead of the copy.

El has offered to just drop out of the game as a fix. However, since the game has just started, we could potentially just restart it with a new RNG. That's a possibility I wanted to run by the rest of the players here.

Please let me know in your game PM which option you prefer. Your responses will be confidential. The cycle may need to be extended to catch everyone's responses.

Aaaah! Posts!

I just got back from my meet and am therefore exhausted, but I will reread this thread tomorrow on my day off from school. A few immediate thoughts on some common themes I’ve seen in the thread.

1) We should definitely have a C1 lynch. 18% Elims is worth a shot, and honestly, not lynching just starves us of information.

2) I do support going for Shardic Investiture this early, up to and including releasing Shards from containment. I concur with others that the most useful Shards for 17S to target would be Cultivation and Ambition, for reasons stated by others which I’m too tired to find right now. I strongly advise that 17S doesn’t go for Odium after N0, unless you really want a kill or there’s serious danger of the Hoid and Khriss factions getting it. We don’t want to release another Odium into the Cosmere.

3) No real opinions on players so far, but I will likely develop them during my thorough reread, again, tomorrow.

4) I will have a fairly large posts about benefits/detractions of each type of Shardic Investiture, which you can expect (guess when?) tomorrow.

5) I shouldn’t complain about being tired... my coach made our top distance runner, after he’d just PRed in the two mile with a time of 10:39, run eight 800s at his two mile race pace (btw that’s like a 2:36 for him) with a minute and a half rest between each one. And then she took him to a hill and made him do 20 hill repeats (sprint up the hill, jog back down, sprint up again). And then she had him run a leg of the distance 4x400. Her reasoning? “He didn’t know how to push himself when it really hurt.” I suppose that now he does. I also suppose that he won’t be able to feel his legs for a good two days.

Wish I could be more useful/coherent. But hopefully my coherence and usefulness will return to me tomorrow. Good night, all.

Thank you all for your patience with us as we have deliberated over the course of action we should take.

Thank you also for all of your responses. After consulting with the IM (which is Wilson, for this game - I just realized that I hadn't announced that anywhere), and considering the responses we have received, we feel that the best course of action is to restart the game with a new RNG.

Thank you all for being understanding, and we appreciate all of the input we have received. Since rollover should be happening in about 2 minutes from now, we will just load up the new RNG for rollover.

New Role PMs coming your way!

Night Zero: Shattered Timelines

Ninera sighed and turned off her phone.

“Anything new, Nin?” Ayara asked, holding a stack of textbooks that were too large to fit into her purse.

“Chouta My Heart’s closing,” Ninera said. She knelt down to tuck her phone back into her backpack.

“Eh, that place is trash,” Ayara said. “You coming to the study session later?”

Before Ninera could answer, the world shook around them. Ninera went sprawling, her bare arms blazing with pain against the concrete ground. She reached for her backpack, but her fingers swiped straight through, the bag as insubstantial as mist. Next to her, Ayara lay on the ground, hands over her head, shrieking. Around them, the world sloshed violently, unmade and remade, old Connections snapping as new ones formed, forged into a different shape than before. Ninera prayed to the Iridescent Tones, to the Returned, to anything for it to just please stop.

Finally, miraculously, it ended. Ninera pushed herself to her feet, groaning. “Are you okay?” she asked Ayara. She offered a hand.

“I think so,” Ayara said faintly, taking Ninera’s hand. “What was that?”

Ninera shrugged. “Maybe someone using Survival?” she guessed. “Schenke’s Reciprocal Parity theorem, Shardholders can reclaim their Investiture at any time, which changes the Connections of the things it was Invested in?”

Ayara giggled, with an edge of hysteria in her voice. “C’mon, we all know you’re an honors student, no need to show off.” She picked up her dropped textbook. “Maybe the Dragon Daily will have something on it?”

“Isn’t it called the Axehound Daily?” Ninera said, frowning. “No wait, it is the Dragon Daily. Nights, I’m so tired I can’t even remember things right.” She took out her phone.

image?w=383&h=596&rev=117&ac=1

“Anything new?” Ayara asked, holding a stack of textbooks.

“Nothing about that earthquake,” Ninera said. “Choutalicious is closing though.” She knelt down to tuck her phone back into her backpack.

“Eh, that place is trash,” Ayara said. “You coming to the study session later?” She dropped her voice conspiratorially and said, “I’m inviting Elias to it too.”

“Girl, are you trying to sabotage my grade?” Ninera grumbled, ignoring Ayara’s knowing smirk. “I’m not gonna get anything done tonight if he’s there.” She hefted her backpack onto her shoulders. Had she done this before? She shook her head to clear it of such thoughts. Maybe she should take a nap first if she was this tired, especially if she was going to see Elias at the study session.

“See you later, Ayara.”

“Seeya, Nin!”

Rae did a great job, didn't she? If she were up at rollover time, I'd have her post the new threads just so that she would get all of the upvotes.
