I could even argue that Valor hiding from Odium isn't a conflict for the Shard/Vessel because "discretion is the better part of Valor" after all. I'd be curious to read that Vessel/Shard interaction though! 1. In that POV Shalash notes that it's "Midius' work", which means that Hoid drew the Heralds for Jasnah's sketches Shallan was in Kholinar or Shadesmar when those sketches were being made as she arrived back on the battlefield of Thaylen City and the sketches were being used just after those when she was either comatose or chasing after Adolin 3. I was a bit tongue in cheek there, but WoR, Chapter 10's first line: That is why it's one of the basis of the theory of Chana Mom! Originally we read that as "SHallan's world ended" because it was the catalyst for all the pain that we see in her family through flashbacks. Now it's recontextualized to confirm the theory that her mother as a Herald was sent back to Braize and broke, leading to the end of the world. At some level, Shallan knew/figured it out through the years that her mom was a Herald and she was responsible for the Desolation even if she blocked the memory or specifics of it, which is why it was stated ambiguously in her flashback. I still think that full revelation is what allowed her to learn and forgive her mom as it recontextualized her mom's actions to allow for forgiveness.

Again - I do think these things were explained well enough in this book already for my sake, especially the Unoathed portion. We see Notum able to cross without a bond early on, apparently being called by the Wind. I assume she called to others as well. We see BAM's release effectively healing many of the deadeyes. Those two things combined allow for the Unoathed at the right time. Is there more going on? maybe, and that might come in later books, but I'm happy with where we got for this section for me to understand it for this book. As for the Szeth skipping an Ideal, we see repeatedly in the flashbacks dealing with Honor and the talking about the Radiants and others that with Honor's passing the radiants would be able to do things before unseen because Honor wasn't there to regulate. Is that the only possible explanation? No, but it's good enough for me in this book to go off of and explain where it came from. I don't think either of these things came in isolation or out of no where by any stretch. I don't remember Shallan ever visited one of Dalinar's visions, nor are we ever shown that she's seen the images of the Heralds as they truly look. I find it completely plausible that a mother is caught off-guard by her daughter summoning a roughly six foot weapon instantly in a close combat range that the mother didn't even know the child had advanced far enough to have. We were told back in Words of Radiance that Shallan was to blame for the Desolation, one of the key points of the Theory in the first place... She did learn from it. Her realizing/learning that her mother was a Herald completely recontextualized her mother's behavior on that day for her. It let her see her mother's actions in a new light and it allowed her to forgive her mom for trying to kill her. It was completely in line with the entire Kaladin/Szeth story line with the other Heralds we see there of "Forgiveness, then do better" and "while trauma doesn't excuse what you did, it does explain it"

Sorry that's your experience of the book! I feel like the mechanics of the Unoathed and Szeth's skipping of an ideal were given the beginnings of explanations in the book, which is consistent with all the other SA works out there, where we get the statement of something and then spend years debating it until a later work comes along and explains it. Also sorry you think that the confirmed theories were the "worst out there", they're some of my favorite, especially the Chana Davar theory! I was super happy to read that one confirmed! Not all works can be for all people as Sanderson himself said recently.

Consequences of the Everstorm
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Oltux72's topic in Stormlight Archive
I never said they could supply a whole planet, just that they had the ability to use the sun to likely grow crops at a much higher yield and therefore they'll be a net exporter of crops to whoever can pay them for those crops, which is a very valuable position to be in with frozen borders all around you. -
Consequences of the Everstorm

OTOH it is going to make Azish crops extremely valuable since they’re the only nation to get sunlight -
I loved it it was an emotional roller coaster for me… I kept saying to my kids “it’s getting dark, they’re losing” every few hundred pages and well… honestly they mostly do. Which intellectually I know is necessary for the 2nd 5-book arc, but… man was it saddening to see play out. I loved Kaladin’s ending. I LOVED Adolin’s ending, though I’m saddened for his loss and his and Shallan’s separation. I loved that the Chana theory turned out 100%, that the Oathpact WAS re-founded (sort of), and that Dalinar DID Ascend (sort of). my biggest gripe is probably the D&T resolution, but even it I’m ultimately okay with. my biggest heartache was seeing Sigzil’s sacrifice to try and save Vienta. it was heartening to see Sig join up with 12124 though at the end… even if we know how their story goes… mixed bag and it was ultimately bittersweet, but I loved it and I still hold out hope for the restoration of Honor and Stormlight and… all of it also yes, Cultivation kind of sucks here. Hope she can find redemption later!

Lin Davar vs. a Skybreaker Acolyte
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Yolenlightweaver's topic in Stormlight Archive
Shallan’s brother was associated enough with Skybreakers to get Shards, but couldn’t use stormlight to heal either I think the distinction is acolyte vs squire and level of oaths as stated -
Who will ascend - the final poll
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Oltux72's topic in Stormlight Archive
If anyone does, it will likely be Dalinar Gav going to the Spiritual Realm is giving me big fear of the Child Champion being real now, but he won't be a child when he gets back from SR -
UNITE THEM (Another interpretation)

Interesting thought, I like it. Not sure what it'll mean, but I like the idea! -
Theory about the author of the Epigraphs
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Friendshipspren's topic in Stormlight Archive
My only thought here is related to something I read in my re-reads up to WaT release: I can't get this and the Epigraph from Chapter 1 out of my mind together. They are entangled in my brain. -
Warbreaker is still my favorite Sanderson book, flaws and all!

Era 3 Theory: Trell's new strategy
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to JustQuestin2004's topic in Mistborn
Honestly I hope Era 3 has nothing to do with Autonomy. We had 4 books that dealt with their looming threat to Scadrial I want Era 3 to deal with Saze’s slide into Discord and the ramifications of that for common people and the Ghostbloods of Roshar IF autonomy comes back into play, I hope it’s a stinger/epilogue to Era 3 where they tempt Kelsier with the ability to leave Scadrial and maybe Allomancy back… -
I’m fascinated by people’s view points on Moash personally and how some strongly feel he is worthy of redemption arc and others just as strongly want him to pound sand in torture on Braize for 4 millennia I also think it’s indicative of newer readers picking up SA and having their own first strong feelings as they go through the journey of Moash’s betrayal. For me I feel more like the latter, but fear that Sanderson wants to redeem him in the back of my mind and so my mind races for how he might accomplish that too.

Kandra with Medallions, scary thought
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to JustQuestin2004's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Y’all are all over here getting Kaiju Kandra and I’m stuck on birds like… the One Kandra on Roshar could have been that parrot in the menagerie! but for real, avian forms alone would be a huge advantage to the Kandra’s abilities without any other medallion benefits -
An interesting thought, but I don't see it for reasons that might be come canonical in the future. Plus he was present at the Shattering. Are you suggesting that Adonalsium created an avatar of themself before the Shattering, helped others (at least 16 others) shatter themself, was offered a chance to take up one of the 16 but didn't even though their plan via Hoid was to reunite the 16?

I mean... we literally saw Shai use an infusion of Investiture to do this, just not with Allomancy right?

Wind and Truth: Chapters 7, 8, & 9
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Jofwu's topic in Stormlight Archive
So for me personally, THIS would feel super contrived as a revelation. It would mean that all of Shallan’s growth was to a degree false, and would require a lot of “oh this thing I should have mentioned in the narrative or mental POV of different characters as Shallan interacted with them I just didn’t because I didn’t want to give it away” would feel cheap to me and not Sanderson’s style. I have hope that he ls going to give us something different than both of those as Shallan’s last secret and that most people will be pleased with it! -
Wind and Truth: Chapters 7, 8, & 9
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Jofwu's topic in Stormlight Archive
Is anyone else just TERRIFIED by these Epigraphs or is that just me?!? I am SO scared every time I read one basically Argh, I'm so nervous reading these epigraphs and the chapters! We hear in one of Dalinar's flashbacks that "the Radiants had Ryshadium" so I'm sure that Gallant is far more special than we knew even before. I wouldn't be surprised to see him swoop down out of the sky in this battle to save Adolin or someone EDIT Also... I love how we got a sort of explanation for where all the missing shardblades went neatly in these early chapters. No massive hidden cache of them in Shinovar or elsewhere needed now. They've just... faded from the Phyiscal realm after being lost or forgotten with time. -
Wind and Truth: Chapters 1 & 2
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Argent's topic in Stormlight Archive
Given what we're seeing in these chapters I've been trying to pay attention in my re-listen of tWoK (in the run up to KoWT release) to other mentions of the wind/Wind Chapter 43: The Wretch *bold words mine, other emphasis already in the text The Ch 3 Epigraph says But perhaps here we're just seeing it without full voice but urging as best it could...? -
it makes me really wonder about the place of Metalborn in Scadrian society as the powers themselves get democratized and spread through MetalTech I wonder if their society will go the route of ignoring metalborn sDNA because they don't "need it" anymore OR if it will go the other route where all people are tested for Metalborn sDNA so they can help continue to fuel/test the creation of new MetalTech
