  1. So the other day I was reading a WOB that got me thinking. Doombrigade (paraphrased) If an individual has a mental sickness, such as multiple personalities, can that affect a Shard's intent if picked up by him or her? Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) Yes, that is possible. Doombrigade (paraphrased) Is it possible that Autonomy is one such, and has multiple personalities? Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) RAFO. ICon 2019 (Oct. 17, 2019 This idea is extremely interesting to me and I thought it had merit. So I have thought it through and have a theory. If Badavin has DID and picked up Autonomy, a shard who's intent is all about remaining alone and not being influenced by others that might be a problem. She could have taken her identities and made them into avatars so that she can remain autonomous (I don't know how that would work out logic wise but magic). Autonomy would probably view the personalities as pieces of herself, and therefore they deserve to be autonomous also. So she takes a personality and fills it with investiture, leaving Autonomy prime alone and giving freedom to the new avatar. Over time Autonomy would have new identities pop up in her mind and so she takes those and also makes them into avatars. DID would help explain a lot of the weird stuff about Autonomy and her many, many avatars. Extra theory, if Bavadin developed DID due to extremely mental damaging circumstances, she would be using the personalities as coping mechanisms. This could be very traumatic for Bavadin, having her coping mechanisms taken away which might leave her mentally unstable and depressed. She still wouldn't be able to stop making the identities into avatars though due to the intent of Autonomy. In the letter to Hoid we see that "you have spoken to the one who cannot respond", could this be Autonomy prime? Could she be holed up on Taldain because she is not functioning because of Bavadin's mental issues? Could the other avatars, in respond have started protecting Autonomy prime to try and keep her autonomous and alone? This could explain why Taldain is closed off from interference. This could also explain why the avatars refer to themselves as a collective whole, because in a way they are just one individual. This is just what I was able to think of with Autonomy having DID. Any thoughts?
  2. I just checked the coppermind and it has informed me that shades are only enraged when people move quickly at night. That means that children and the such can run all day if they want. Also children would definitely be aware of the fact that they will die if they run, the would probably be kept in silver circle rooms until they can be trusted enough not to run. I still think this hypothetical society would still be fine with shades, sure they would be mildly inconvenienced but almost no one would die.
  3. I don't know how you would do it but is you were a twinborn who could store connection and was a leecher that might be interesting. If you could leech away metals via connection instead of touch that would be pretty cool, same with nicrosil. Imagine the shenanigans possible if you were fighting someone and could constantly take away their reserves with ease. Other weird idea, what if you were able to get enough connection to someone and then you burned aluminum, is there a way in there to have the aluminum also affect them? Probably not but that would be extremely interesting.
  4. I love your comments Yumiya, this is most of what I was going to say. One thing I have to add though is that shades are a massive problem in Shadows for Silence only because of the already bad/violent life styles that we see the characters have. If shades were existing in a small modern town where everyone just goes about there day without needing to kill people, the shades would never be angered. Also then there would be much less death and so there would also be less shades in general. Yes, society would probably need to stop running and setting fires but besides that they are just chill ghosts. One actual issue is that they float through walls and might accidently kill someone in their sleep, but that's a different problem.
  5. The fact that stormlight flows out more quickly might be tied a few things. First off, stormlight follows a cycle, kind of like the water cycle. It comes down from the storm, dissipates over time and gets reused by the storm. It is described as raging and pushing people to move, because it is a light that is always moving. Voidlight might stick in gems longer because Odium places it there directly, the intent is for it to stick to the gem. You have to preform the Song of Prayer and ask the source (Odium) directly. So while the gems happen to catch some stormlight, it is going to quickly go back to the source, while voidlight has intent behind it.
  6. I have three things to add to this conversation. First, even though we as outside viewers might unanimously view killing radiants as unjust, as long as the spren and the skybreaker don't see it as evil the bond is not broken. Knight Radiant Oaths are very much based on the perception of the individual and the spren, whatever their views dictate decides if it violates the oath. Second, Nale is a Herald and crazy so most of the stuff he does shouldn't change your opinion too much. Lastly, other orders have very Machiavellian views of the first oath. For example the Elsecallers view the journey as the journey of society, as so they use that to justify some of their actions. I could totally view skybreakers in the same way, they are people who have to do dark deeds to help foster humanity.
  7. For Truthwatchers it could be something like "I understand I cannot know/find all truth". I could totally see them getting consumed by one question. I think that That1Cellist is probably right on the edgedancer ideal. Something about not remembering everyone or people being forgotten. Stoneward's fourth oath would probably be very similar to the Windrunner's. And just one total shot in the dark for Elsecallers. They are all about finding their potential and such. The fourth oath could be something like "I understand I can not be perfect". A nice understanding for the order to have, so that no one gets obsessed with perfection and prevents personal growth.
  8. Love this idea but instead of Lopen throw Lightsong into the mix. The "responsible" person can be Breeze as he would be very annoyed by them. And then I want to see Wyndle and Steris and Llarimar having a great time in the other room.
  9. Yeah Inqusitors are definitely weird because of their hemalurgy. I don't remember exactly where it was said but I've read somewhere that Inquisitor's brain and heart actually grow around the spikes and form different shapes. I don't remember any specific quotes or Wobs about the height and I couldn't find any on Coppermind. Part of the added height might be because of all the spikes in their body and therefore added body mass. Inquisitors might have also hemalurgicly stolen strength, which would make them bigger. Most of it though is just how physically mutated they are from so much hemalurgy. Another way for Brandon to make Inquisitor's feel alien.
  10. This is a very interesting theory you have Stormuncle. Most of it is a bit of a stretch but the Sibling's name makes a lot of sense in this context and would help explain a lot. As for the rhythm idea I don't think the rhythms would change if the Sibling or the Nightwatcher was unmade. However if the Stormfather was unmade there would definitely be a lot of ramifications one of which might be Honor's rhythms changing.
  11. I think you might be reading to much into this. Even though the art itself is of ruin, that doesn't mean all the investiture is of ruin also. If I steal someone's allomancy I think that the power source would still be the same because its just a copy and paste. Yes hemalurgy is of ruin but I think that just means it mirrors ruin's philosophy, not necessary his investiture. "Hemalurgy was not specifically created by Ruin but rather arose from the interactions between Preservation, Ruin, and Scadrial itself." (Coppermind). I could totally be wrong, but this is just what I think.
  12. Yes, the Stormfather definitely has much more investiture than Nightblood but I don't even think it would be a question of who would win. The Stormfather would either die right off or be in extreme pain from being summoned in the physical realm as a shardblade. But, Nightblood would win because of Intent. Nightblood is made to destroy, it killed Rayse even though he commanded a shard's power. The Stormfather is much less investited than that and has powers from Honor, which would probably be less useful in this situation. If someone who knew what they were doing fought the Stormfather Blade with Nightblood I don't think it would even be a fight. I do think this is an interesting line of thought with the stormfather but more investiture doesn't always mean stronger.
  13. Steris, Hesnia, and Sly. And once Lift grows up and figures out her life, I could totally see her being awesome.
  14. Gravitation could be extremely useful for transportation purposes, just make the plane weigh half as much or lash it in the direction your flying. Adhesion would be great for construction, lash an object to a wall and then nail it whenever you want. With Progression there is obvious medical applications but it would also would help regrow forests and stuff really fast. Cohesion would also be really useful with construction, if the piece is to short just fuse it with more material and it becomes the perfect size. Though Transformation is the most practical surge. Useful in almost any situation.
  15. Ok, I love this idea and could totally see it working really well in Era 1. It would also be really refreshing to not have the force of destruction incarnate be the villain in a story. This would also help highlight so many of the character conflicts and that Vin and Elend would have. One question I have is what would Kelsier be doing, would Ati and him being best friends? If so I really want to see that version of Secret History.
  16. I'm also thought it was talking about the Recreance, since Pattern has said to Shallan many times that she would kill him. He said that pretty soon after being bonded and unless he was basing that claim off of the Recreance I don't know why he would know it so quickly. I do like the idea of Shallan having broken more bonds, there is so much unexplained in her past.
  17. I like to imagine the ardents who are cleaning the blood off the floor as they hear muffled death threats from the closet. Or a guy is just filing paperwork in the next room and all of the sudden, "I'M GOING TO STORMING STAB EVERYONE"
  18. Ok lets see what names I can come up with A tin/ F Bronze could be Hunter or Tracker (Because they would be great at tracking something relentlessly) A Tin/ F Zinc could be Sleuth A Zinc/ F Zinc could be a Charmer or something A Chromium/ F Steel could be a Leaker (with how fast they can take anyway any Allomantic reserves) A Pewter/ F Iron might be Acrobat A Copper / F Bronze could be a Sentinel A Steel / F Bronze could be Hotshot
  19. I think cometaryorbit has some very good theories on how spren interact with surges in the physical realm and I more or less agree with them. One thing that I think we need to keep in mind is that maybe, the spren's means of interacting with the physical realm aren't because of the knight radiants. When the Knight Radiants were made the spren were put into that order because they already acted like those surges. A Honorspren could probably already fly and use adeshion in the physical realm, and then when they made the Radiants it made sense to have honorspren bond and give the radiants adhesion and gravitation. I could be wrong on that, it is just how I think of it.
  20. I think your right, Vin definitely wouldn't be Discord but Harmony still doesn't seem right. Life feels close to right, and that seems like a very good balance of Preservation and Ruin, or even Progress or something. I could also see something like Order or Balance, but that feels to much like preservation. She could also be something like Protection or Loyalty. We know how much Vin loves her friends and doing destroying anything to protect them, feels very Vin. I have no idea, I'm bad at Shard names.
  21. I don't think in any way that the Nightwatcher is this world's version of Harmony and Preservation. Those are both shard well this is just a powerful spren. As for the quote I don't know how said it but I do know it was in Way of Kings. That book was filled with superstition and false doctoring taught by old Vorin lessons. This seems more like a poetic version of dying or tall tale of death. Another reason it's unlikely that the Nightwatcher is the grim reaper is the fact that Cultivation made the Nightwatcher. If she cared enough to see all the dead souls, she would just do it. Making another entity to do that task feels like something Cultivation wouldn't do. One more counterpoint, Preservation is very special, he takes he duty very seriously. But that doesn't mean that every other shard would do it. We see Harmony talk to Wax, but he is a special exception, we don't know if he talks to anyone else. That's an interesting line of thought, but I think your reading to much into one line of text.
  22. I don't know if the powers would stack depending on how many aviar you eat. I think it's more likely that having another aviar would be a big advantage for the ghostbloods. Though if eating multiple worms helps get an aviar more powers, or stronger powers that could be very interesting. But then you have to ask why the aviar in Patji don't just eat more wurm fruit. That would be a much easier way to get stronger powers.
  23. If were going with dead relatives Spook technically counts. He could maybe show up, since he might be alive. I seriously doubt it but hey, it would be a very cool twist to have the Lord Mistborn show up.
  24. I thought it was a fine read. I'm not big on graphic novels and I feel like this story, with all the politics and depth, could have been a lot better in novel form. I understand that Brandon is crazy busy with all his books but still. As for this book I liked it. I feel like the second half of the story was just plot twist into a character climax and then a resolution. Rinse and repeat until all loose ends are covered. After the fourth time it happened I was over it. I really liked the magic system but I wish I could have learned more about it then I was seeing in the pictures.
  25. Ok cool, thanks for answering my question
