  1. OMG, yes! I think it is laudable what Brandon does for authors, even if it may hurt his own sales. I had no idea Audible is that monopolistic
  2. And announce to Moiraine that they are the three ta'veren. Moiraine gives up her Aes Sedai shawl and leaves to help the Dark One
  3. Mat suggests a game of dice and Wayne agrees, hoping to cheat him like he does with Wax. He gets unlucky, of course, and Mat wins all Wayne's wealth. Both leave absolutely happy with the result. Lopen loses his title of the Alethi King and leaves upset
  4. If you have read the three novellas (The Secret History, Dawnshard, and Edgedancer) that expand the two series you mentioned, then Elantris or Warbreaker would be next. The Emperor's Soul is nice to read after Elantis, as it is set on the same planet. The first of the Dusk, and the Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell can be read any time, I think.
  5. Hello, I have written this story as a gift for my husband's birthday, he enjoyed it and said I should post it here. I thought it would be great to get some less-biased feedback (there is no telling how much of his enthusiasm is about the story and how much about me writing it for him, haha), and agreed. So here we go. A few notes on the fanfic (here is the Link). First, it takes place between the second and the third books of the Stormlight Archive. It assumes that you are familiar with Roshar and doesn't spend page space describing either the magic system or the world. Second, even though I had a very specific target audience and most of the characters are reminiscent of people in our lives, it is fiction enough to be read by any Stormlight fan. I hope you enjoy it! Third, it is 39,000 words, half detective story, half romace. P.S. it is the first piece of fiction I have ever written, so constructive criticism is very welcome. I intend to keep improving on this
  6. Short and sweet and powerful! Good to see Fuzz in his prime I expected to see Hoid as well since he was supposed to be present at the Shattering, but maybe Leras didn't quite care to name him
  7. I mean it in comparison to the first few books of a series. All the main characters are by now well known and loved. And the rest are mostly cameos from other worlds or eras, like Shai, Marsh, Sazed, Kelsier, even horneaters (presumably?). The magic is well-established as well. We don't go through the whole "this is steel, Vin, it pushes things" moments as much as it happens earlier
  8. I think the latter books in the series tend to be 'shorter' because it is all action and barely any world-building or new character introduction. And the Sanderlanche comes early because it is the end for the entire series, not just one book. But... I loved the pace. Couldn't put TLM down until I was done with it...
  9. I knew I would love this book the moment I read "I have a literary license" Alcatraz reference in the acknowledgement!
  10. Not sure, it maybe at a different time for international readers because of the daylight savings
  11. Is there an explanation why harmonium is repelled from Trellium at rest, but explodes when reacting with it in this "almost separated" state?
  12. Shout-out to Ranette and Jaxy for finally opening Wayne's eyes on the situation with Allriandre. It always seemed to me very egoistic of him to go in-person every month and remind her of her loss.
  13. I don't think that Sazed and Kelsier are in close communication since in BoM Sazed says that no one is sarcastic towards him since Kelsier... something. Whatever the "something" is, it seems the two are not talking
  14. Thank you for the insight! What is "distance energy levels"?
  15. Haha, well, for one, Wayne would be really good at role-playing
  16. True, it is also light to carry around, though not exactly sturdy.
  17. Chapters 12 and 13 are here! First off, poor Wayne! I knew that MeLaan was going to leave Scadrial but I did't expect her to ask for it! I felt as heartbroken as Wayne must have. Second, MeLaan would be the first kandra on a long-term mission in Shadesmar, which means there might have been shorter trips before. I am curious to know where and why. Also, why aluminum body? Lastly, I truly enjoyed the science experiments and hope to see Lerasium and Atium reemerge again. If that happens, the book would have to be renamed "Lost metalS"
  18. I like that to perform a Forgery, one must study and know as much as possible about the object's/person's past to make the change plausible enough for a new stamp to take.
  19. Side note, but I now want to see a broadsheet with one of the stories about Marasi's previous cases
  20. Honestly, I am so used to Wayne getting in trouble (I mean there literally exists a report folder of his mischieves), that I didn't think of that. I hope you are right. As for the bomb, the book blurb implies that as well
  21. Chapters 10 and 11 here! First off... MeLaan going to another planet?! Awesome! I think Sel is the most likely candidate because of the Ire, but I can't wait to know for sure. And the way it is set up, Marasi is almost certainly going too Speaking of Marasi - I loved that there are stories written about her in broadsheets now. It is a beautiful thing to do for her as a character, considering her youthful inspiration with the Dawnshot stories. Next, any ideas who Wayne owes money? Is it potentially related to his bendalloy (over)consumption? And, we finally got to see Allik... hot choc never spoils a book
  22. Haha, I think every Sanderfan had been RAFO'ed more times that they can count. It is the beauty and the curse of reading an unfinished universe as complex as Cosmere
