  1. I had the same thought! The comments on "dramatic irony" and such are very Alcatraz-like, and so are the multiple puns. But I think Hoid's narration is more intelligent, both mentally and emotionally, so the two styles are different enough for me in this case.
  2. Thank you for sharing, I loved to see Mare, Kelsier and Marsh together, before our story began. It is sad that Marsh never got to see the yellow sun, as he wishes in this story. What does the Sun look like to an inquisitor, anyway?
  3. @Oltux72 I realize that Rysn would have to be several hundred years old by the time of the story, but considering that she is holding a Dawnshard, it doesn't seem impossible at all. The two people we know to hold one (Hoid and Sigzil) both do not age normally, so perhaps neither does she. I am not British. Can you explain why Charles III and the title of King's Wit are connected?
  4. My theory is that Hoid is telling the story to Rysn. First, the audience should be from Roshar, since no one else would understand the title of King's Wit. Second, Ryan owns a ship and would relate to nautical references. Third, she holds a dawnshard, so it is reasonable to suggest that Hoid would decide to talk to her at some point. As for the Aviars, we have seen two on Roshar already, and since the story probably happens in the second half of Stormlight series, spaceships make sense as well.
  5. I love this post! I have struggled with my mental image of Kaladin as well because of this and in the end decided to place the slave brands on his temples, so that they could be covered by a more decent haircut. I can survive that change easier than bangs
  6. Beautiful and imaginative, thank you for sharing! It reminds me of the Aes Sedai symbol quite a bit, and made me wish there was a similar art, but with a WoT character.
  7. I have an Audible subscription too and love the service. I hope they reconsider they pricing policy (40% for the creator is incredibly, almost scandalously, little)
  8. I read everything Brandon writes, but reread only Cosmere
  9. Thank you for asking! I have been wondering the same thing. I thought I have read everything there was to read by Brandon but started doubting that when I didn't get the joke, haha
  10. OMG, yes! I think it is laudable what Brandon does for authors, even if it may hurt his own sales. I had no idea Audible is that monopolistic
  11. And announce to Moiraine that they are the three ta'veren. Moiraine gives up her Aes Sedai shawl and leaves to help the Dark One
  12. Mat suggests a game of dice and Wayne agrees, hoping to cheat him like he does with Wax. He gets unlucky, of course, and Mat wins all Wayne's wealth. Both leave absolutely happy with the result. Lopen loses his title of the Alethi King and leaves upset
  13. If you have read the three novellas (The Secret History, Dawnshard, and Edgedancer) that expand the two series you mentioned, then Elantris or Warbreaker would be next. The Emperor's Soul is nice to read after Elantis, as it is set on the same planet. The first of the Dusk, and the Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell can be read any time, I think.
  14. Hello, I have written this story as a gift for my husband's birthday, he enjoyed it and said I should post it here. I thought it would be great to get some less-biased feedback (there is no telling how much of his enthusiasm is about the story and how much about me writing it for him, haha), and agreed. So here we go. A few notes on the fanfic (here is the Link). First, it takes place between the second and the third books of the Stormlight Archive. It assumes that you are familiar with Roshar and doesn't spend page space describing either the magic system or the world. Second, even though I had a very specific target audience and most of the characters are reminiscent of people in our lives, it is fiction enough to be read by any Stormlight fan. I hope you enjoy it! Third, it is 39,000 words, half detective story, half romace. P.S. it is the first piece of fiction I have ever written, so constructive criticism is very welcome. I intend to keep improving on this
  15. Short and sweet and powerful! Good to see Fuzz in his prime I expected to see Hoid as well since he was supposed to be present at the Shattering, but maybe Leras didn't quite care to name him
  16. I mean it in comparison to the first few books of a series. All the main characters are by now well known and loved. And the rest are mostly cameos from other worlds or eras, like Shai, Marsh, Sazed, Kelsier, even horneaters (presumably?). The magic is well-established as well. We don't go through the whole "this is steel, Vin, it pushes things" moments as much as it happens earlier
  17. I think the latter books in the series tend to be 'shorter' because it is all action and barely any world-building or new character introduction. And the Sanderlanche comes early because it is the end for the entire series, not just one book. But... I loved the pace. Couldn't put TLM down until I was done with it...
  18. I knew I would love this book the moment I read "I have a literary license" Alcatraz reference in the acknowledgement!
  19. Not sure, it maybe at a different time for international readers because of the daylight savings
  20. Is there an explanation why harmonium is repelled from Trellium at rest, but explodes when reacting with it in this "almost separated" state?
  21. Shout-out to Ranette and Jaxy for finally opening Wayne's eyes on the situation with Allriandre. It always seemed to me very egoistic of him to go in-person every month and remind her of her loss.
  22. I don't think that Sazed and Kelsier are in close communication since in BoM Sazed says that no one is sarcastic towards him since Kelsier... something. Whatever the "something" is, it seems the two are not talking
