This admittedly needs a bit of context as it is dependent on the theory that stormlight will suddenly be unavailable atleast in book 5, prolly due to the contest of champions. The idea is that the shadesmar sun will set, which will cause there to be no more stormlight. This creates a Long Weeping called a night of Sorrows. I made a full theory on it long ago but I have changed my mind on a lot of things. Back then I thought stormfather would sacrifice himself and cause the night of sorrows which clearly is not my theory is anymore. https://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/99266-night-of-sorrows-migration-to-shadesmar-theory/ If you want something other than the theory consider this. Kal's death scare moment will happen near the end of the book, meaning after the contest of champions(which happens in only 10 days). There is no way the contest ends in a victory, since that would completely solve any problems forever. We still have 5 books to go in SA. This implies that Dalinar will almost def fail. That implies that he will become a fused too. Are we sure the stormfather will be unaffected by this? It's more likely to me that the stormfather might be very hurt. Stormlight might become limited. Tbf, my theory was more along the lines of stormfather showing mercy rather than kal holding back the storm, but I do agree this seems like the perfect moment to make kal honor, if Brandon has planned that.

This theory is very much based on Fleet! I think hoid's story is heavy foreshadowing for kaladin's big moment in book 5 and also lore clues for another character. Let's get the part unimportant to the theory first Fleet is Nohadon Oops made it a spoiler quote. Some evidence for fleet is nohadon Anyway it's a very strange detail. Young Nohadon also has hair long enough to be tied in a braid. The only way to be faster than a dustbringer is with gravitation. This implies that fleet was a Windrunner or skybreaker. Nohadon says honorspren have good judgement, implying that he is one. Journey to Urithiru: Nohadon walked from Abamabar to Urithiru. I think fleet is based on this journey with some obviously wrong details ( Natanatan or shinovar was not on the journey) The confusion might come here because the journey was not as simple as a walk. Nohadon does call it a metaphor at the start of his book. He compares men's lives to candle flames at one point in the book and... So clearly he went to the shadesmar. His parables for the book could maybe have been derived from meeting cryptics, honorspren and other radiant spren and learning what they valued. Also, the cognitive representation of Urithiru is called Nohadon's Stairways. Another peice of evidence that he was in shadesmar. The stormfather thinks of Nohadon as a good man. He also says there was a man who made him laugh. Nohadon also confirms that he did have a guide on his journey. This i think is definitely stormfather. Fleet is also... Kaladin? Kaladin is absolutely making up the story as hoid urges him. But at the end, hoid remarks that kal does know the end of the story and that Fleet is a real man. But then at the very end, hoid also says that he never has sung this story before... What's going on? Spiritual Realm shenanigans. Kal is making up the story but he is subconsciously receiving info from the spiritual realm. This is why fleet has waist length hair without kal ever thinking that. For another example, shallan recreates the girl who looked up, and she just happens to have white hair even though that was not what shallan intended. There is a wob confirming this. Ok but why do I think that fleet is somehow also kal? Because of these: The storm stopped. That. Never.Happens. This is the basis of stormfather's arc. He never changes and shows no mercy. Dalinar and kal berate him for this and very, very slowly stormfather begins to change. This arc can only culminate in the storms stopping. So u can't tell me that he already has done it a long time ago and also doesn't remember it. No, this is only in stormfather's future. And he could really only show mercy to 2 people: Dalinar and Kal. Adding the fact that, Nohadon didn't die at the end of his journey, he wrote a book and distributed it across roshar. Kal's Death Scare Moment Kal may or may not die in book 5. It could honestly go either way. But both sides of the arg will agree that there will be a moment where Brandon will make us think that kal is going to die. There will be a death scare, we can bet on that. This will be his big emotional moment in book 5. This is very standard in fiction afterall. The idea of this theory started when I was wondering if kal will say the fifth ideal or not. We know that there are clear death rattles connected to his ideals, because of the chapter titles. The rattles are always in first person. So if there is a rattle, we should be able to find it. It is not the 'fallen title' death rattle as this is in second person. The one i think fits is.. This is very depressing. But I think this fits the style of kal death rattles than the other first person rattles. Also this death rattle might not be as sad as you think, due to wordplay. I think this is the death scare moment. If this is also the 5th ideal moment, 'the journey has ended' means the final ideal of a radiant. If kal becomes a cognitive shadow here, 'the death is my life' also makes sense. It's the middle part that is very interesting. Stormlight Exhaustion Using a lot of stormlight is dangerous for a radiant. The moment stormlight runs out, they become as exhausted as the amount of stormlight used. This effect is very similar to pewter drag from mistborn. This effect is ref in every SA book many, many times. And the most extreme version we saw was just before kal swears the 2nd ideal, as he nearly kills himself by using too much stormlight. This is definitely what 'the strength becomes my weakness' means. In book 5, kal will at some point have to fly from Natanatan to shinovar at top speed, maybe to warn the shin, but with limited stormlight. He may be racing the storm itself. But the stormlight is not enough. He reaches close to the shin but feels the light running out before that. He is tired, he closes his eyes, he falls. And then the stormfather feels empathy and stops for him. And then, IDK, kal becomes a 5th ideal radiant? A cognitive shadow? Merge with the stormfather? A herald? Honor? The Son of Tanavast(whatever that is)?? Idk what or why or when it happens, i think I know HOW it happens. Final hoid quotes Fleet is kal's own story too.

I have a pet theory that this is El, the fused at the end of ROW. His fused name is 'He who Quiets'. We know humans do not like to hear the anti-Honor tones needed to create anti stormlight, so it would be a tune 'no man can hear'. I just thought that even though black Piper sounds very unmade-y, he also has hands, so it could be a human becoming an unmade or something Ofcourse if this death rattle is for books 6-10, it could be anything. It could be Axies for all we know

I'm reading The Stormlight Archive for the first time
KaladinWorldsinger replied to Amira's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't know what you mean by outside influence, but usually atheists think that is strong beliefs causing strong emotions and feelings. Maybe something really, really good happens to you when you need it and you think it was an act of God. Maybe your parents strongly believe in a god so growing up with them you do too. Maybe you heard a passionate religious person deliver a sermon and you feel convinced. For example, a charismatic person speaking about how vaccines cause autism can inspire many anti'vaxxers. These people genuinely believe that vaccination is bad and their feelings are real. The only difference am atheist finds between this and a religious speaker is that a belief in God doesn't hurt people and could be what the people hearing it need. Anti-vaxxers, on the other hand, are spreading harmful ideas even if they fully believe in what they are saying -
I always wonder if jasnah could teleport like one person using shardplate. Like maybe just teleport to shadesmar. Probably what will happen is only Windrunners can give their shardplate to someone else since protection is their whole theme

@Mzuka I have personally my own theory that Shalash is the gIRL who looked up. Shalash has white hair in official depictions and Ash has a red scarf if I am not mistaken. We know jezrien was a king, so Shalash would be a princess? Maybe shalash is actually princess tsa not queen tsa and the details got forgotten. One issue I have about the theory is it completely ignores Natan people being aimian hybrids which was the point of the whole story.

Nightwatcher is Roshar's Grim Reaper
KaladinWorldsinger replied to KaladinWorldsinger's topic in Stormlight Archive
It could be, but now the more interesting question becomes why they would even be conflated. Like what connects death rattles to nightwatcher at all? I would say that the name probably came from Cultivation herself using futuresight, because cultivation in general seems to be always involved with nightwatcher. For the scadrians Oh, i don't think that nightwatcher is the grim reaper anymore if she used to be. Something has clearly changed. But nightwatcher seems indicative of death -
I was reading in world Way of Kings excerpts when something jumped out at me The passage is clearly talking about how all men have the same destination, death except for the immortal heralds. But the metaphor used for death is 'dining with the nightwatcher' So is she the grim reaper? Then the name would make more sense. 'Night' watcher as she watches you die(your night). Mistborn era 2 and SH spoilers What does dining with her entail? Is this connected to her boons? Was there a time where you could ask her a wish as you died? This puts stormfather fulfilling Eshonai's wish in a new light. Cultivation made sure NW was unchanged by human perception. Maybe because she wants NW to keep doing the exact same job. Tinfoil: I need your help on this. Does NW look anything like a mistspren? Like how stormfather could look like or feel like a giant windspren? For context, I had a theory that truthwatcher shardplatespren would be deathspren because moelach seems to be drawn to places with death and he could be the truthwatcher corresponding unmade. Then he would be made of corrupted deathspren(like re shephir). If mistspren came from deathspren and Nightwatcher looks like a mistspren, this could be another clue for the grim reaper theory

Why are people confused about Tal's honor blade?

Nah, it's pretty clear he treats them with 'reverence', quote from the book. And they clearly deserve it -
Stormfather inconsistency [Spoilers SA5 prologue]
KaladinWorldsinger replied to Evendale's topic in Stormlight Archive
What painting? -
Shhhh. Shhhhhhhhh. Too meta. Brandon already explained all conveniences and plot Armor with one word -'futuresight'. Why did everything workout in the end? Well some shard looked into the future and this was his plan. Was there any other better way? No, shut up. What do you mean it takes away the agency of the characters and ruins the magic of character moments? Atleast its not plot Armor. I hate destiny and chosen ones in fantasy and fiction in general.

But we know that the the dawnsingers were surgebinders. When venli asks if they were radiants, the stones reply 'new things are made from old things' which means the dawnsingers had something similar. Later Leshwi says that venli being a radiant means that the spren have forgiven them for their betrayal, which makes me think that if singers hadn't done this ancient betrayal, they would still be surgebinders. Also 1)Leshwi has a honorspren frien Riah 2)Leshwi is one the most honorable fused we have met 3) her band of fused( gravitation fused) are very similar to Windrunners All this makes me think that Leshwi was a proto Windrunner

my sister hates on oathbringer (kinda)
KaladinWorldsinger replied to kaladin x happiness's topic in Stormlight Archive
I remember reading Oathbringer and feeling very bored until the ending. It felt like the most bloated SA book to me, could have cut a quarter of the book without losing anything of value. The ending is the only saving grace for me -
Does Anyone Ship Jasnahoid (Jasnah & Wit)?

Oh ok. Gotcha. But after 16 or more generations, you are barely related anymore, so that again hasn't stopped fantasy writers around the world. -

theory Kelsier holds the Dawnshard of Survival
KaladinWorldsinger replied to WorldHopper Mailman's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I find it very hard to believe that there was a dawnshard on the planet, but neither Ruin or Preservation used it in their very tight battle. It all depended on spook being able to hear kelsier in a dream to send a message that Marsh could read but hopefully still barely fight against ruin to pull out a DAMN EARING. The entire world depended on that earing. A dawnshard would have helped out lot somewhere i feel. Also 'survive' doesn't sound like a dawnshard, 'live' or 'be' sounds like a dawnshard. 'survive' sounds too narrow you know?- 6 replies

I am definitely on camp stormfaker, i do not believe that is the stormfather at all since the day I read it. To me 1) the entity is very active as a character, while the SF is a very passive character. Active misleading and planning. SF's character has always been like a child refusing change and responsibility. SF has the most consistent charecterization of any in the series with very strong and unique voice. There has been no foreshadowing for him being a bad guy. 2) It negates the wholesome character development SF has been undergoing. He compliments the radiants. Our SF would have killed himself before doing that pre WoR. 3) SF never takes responsibility. He would not call himself 'the biggest fool' of them all. 4) The entity has human mannerisms. It also appears in a humanoid shape to Gavilar. Our SF enjoys being a giant face in the storm, thank you very much. He hated humans Also..... Come on people, Gavilar calls the heralds ten fools and the entity calls himself 'the biggest fool' of them all! HOW OBVIOUS CAN THAT GET??? Who would the real SF compare himself to? Humans? Spren?? The heralds? Who is the 'all' SF is referring to here?? The entity has to be a herald. Most Probably Ishar. He is already working on the oathpact. He is doing freaky spren experiments. My theory is that since humans can break oaths but spren can't, he is trying to replace the heralds with physical spren. Occams Razor. Only problem is the spren can't stay alive. The spren probably needs a nahel bond to survive. Anyway replacing heralds seems to be his jam. My theory. And if it is Ishar, and if Liss is vedel( i think it's possible, there was a lot of focus put on her) then except Pailiah all the heralds influenced that night and gav's feast. Wicked.

Does Anyone Ship Jasnahoid (Jasnah & Wit)?
KaladinWorldsinger replied to SymphonianBookworm's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think Brandon ships them. Just a feeling. There are many theories that jasnah or wit is using the other's feelings but i think the confusion comes from how wierdly written the relationship chapter was. Asexuality doesn't mean you can't have romantic relationships -
I am surprised that no one has brought this up Now, Amaram thinks taln is talking about honorblades here, but there isn't a 'whole cache of them', only 9. Seems pretty clear to me taln knows where the missing shardblades are.
