  1. Realising that Kaladin had been redirecting the arrows into the bridge always leaves a bad taste on my mouth the more I reread WoK. It takes a lot away from kal, because you think it's his leadership skills and ingenuity that saves the bridge men, but in reality it was his latent surgebinding. Kal would not have lasted more than 4 weeks Max in the bridge crews otherwise, if he was a vanilla mortal. So yes Kaladin is very lucky.
  2. I will have immense respect for Brandon if he even tries to do a moash redemption without killing him. But seeing how Brandon talks about him sometimes, moash will prolly feel a lot of guilt at the end, cry and die. But I can hope
  3. Lost metal is set after SA5 but written before SA5. So won't it spoil SA5? More importantly, Era 3(modern era) will be set after the second half of SA, but written in between the two halfs of SA. So if trell is odium, wouldn't that definitely spoil SA second half? Either odium vanishes in Era 3 because he was defeated on Roshar SA second half (very confusing for mistborn fans) or odium vanishes from the second half of SA and there is a new antagonist ( very confusing for SA fans) So that's my reason for not thinking trell will be odium. Thoughts?
  4. When did renarin interact with wit? Or hold his own ... against anybody? I don't remember
  5. Please do not attack people if you don't agree with their views. This forum is supposed to be a place of discussion
  6. And we don't know where chasmfiends come from.... They pupate on the shattered plains but no one knows where their place of origin actually is. That is one of my favourite headcanons too, i really want 5th ideal to give radiants a horse, but also seems unlikely. I don't understand what the tinfoil is here. Isn't this widely believed? (I do anyway)
  7. Is there any possibility that Larkin grow into chasmfiends? Obviously Larkin have wings, but could they perhaps pupate into chasmfiends with legs? And then a chasmfiend pupates into the crab dragon that we all are waiting chiri chiri to become. I know it's unlikely, but I can't leave this idea behind. Chasmfiends pupate and look like giant crab caterpillars , so what would their pupated butterfly version look like? The only thing I can think of is crab dragon because if they are not, why have 2 very similar flying crab creatures? That would reduce the novelty of each. In my 'theory', why does Larkin pupate twice? Simple. Dragons need to have both strong legs and wings, unlike butterflies. Please rip this apart to shreds
  8. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/504/#e15784 This is the link to the szeth flashback chapter. What I wanted to discuss is..... Molly?? Molly the sheep? How is there such an un-rosharan name on this sheep? Is this a placeholder name for the sheep until Brandon changes it ? If not, I am very interested in how that name is there on Roshar. Anyway let's discuss the szeth flashback and shin culture
  9. I don't either, but I am wierd in the sense that I almost never hate villains or characters who are firmly on the bad side. I still don't get the vitriol for umbridge in harry potter. I usually get very angry with heroes for making poor or stupid decisions, but with villains, they are supposed to do horrible things, how can I hate them? Moash also starts out with a genuinely sympathetic motivation. He wants to kill the person who killed his grandparents. So till Oathbringer he was pretty sympathetic to me. Then ROW happened, he is very boring now in his characterization, i barely care about him. I would loove for him to get a redemption arc precisely because everyone seems to hate him so much. That would be awesome , but it will never happen at this point. That will be too bold for even Brandon I feel.
  10. I think Roshar, scadrial and elantris will be the superpowers of the space age because they figured out FTL with their own magic systems. I would be very surprised if nalthis somehow used breaths to go FTL. I think the only way the other planets get FTL is by borrowing technology as colonies of one of the three main planets
  11. @Frustration I get your disappointment, i was disappointed too since I really wanted a genius planner gavilar and some huge info reveal. But don't lose hope yet, Brandon has skirted around how exactly gav got his anti voidlight and i think that was completely intentional. But, unfortunately, i don't think there is going to be any major rewrites because this was definitely planned since day one. Gavilar was always going to be revealed as all fluff, no substance. In wok, we have a small hint when navani says something like 'i was faithful(to gav) even though I had good reason not to be'. But the main reasons I say this is because of Dalinar's character arc. taravangian, sadeas and gav are meant to be character foils to dalinar. The main theme of these characters being glory. We learn that alethela used to be looked very favorably in the past. Urithiru was going to be placed there, Nohadon is from there, windrunners have a special connection to alethela and windrunners are closest to honor in a way. They were the noble warriors, watchers at the time. But after 4000 years, honor has become synonymous with glory. Alethi chase glory instead of Honor. They are all about appearances instead of actual character. This is why sadeas seems so ready to give opinions on fashion in the books. This is why Dalinar's first book journey was about people believing him mad and senile. For alethi it is always about fame, legacy, appearances and glory. For taravangian, there was an entire thread that detailed how his primary motivating factor was proving the people who doubted his capacity wrong. There points come to mind. 1) the fact he was looked down upon because he was born with a cord around his neck 2) that he didn't understand why he felt sad when he realised no one would come to his funeral 3) that even though he says he would love to be proven wrong, he contradicts himself in the same convo by calling it a pain. It is not a coincidence that Dalinar's is constantly associated with gloryspren. Tara and gav are foils to dalinar. In the ob flashback, where gav says that the kingdom used to mean something, he is thinking about his upcoming legacy not morality. Dalinar isn't fame obsessed, but he does like being the leader a bit too much and has difficulty decentralising power. It took him the whole of ROW to realise democracy was a good idea. He will prolly find out what kind of a person his bro gav was, and that will be very imp to his character arc in book 5. He will finally trust other people with power and let go. Tldr: Gav was always going to be big talk.
  12. I just hope he doesn't die in book 5. Any other fate I am happy, even the theory of the oathpact getting recreated as a last resort with new heralds and kal getting tortured for 15 years on braize till book 6 starts is fine with me( even a little cool). But if he dies, it will be very unsatisfying. Shocking sure, but i would not be able to enjoy rereads if he dies i think
  13. I think one way to understand this is, Kal really really really doesn't want to be different. He is very talented and a born leader, very charismatic but all that also makes him an 'other' and alone. The bridge crew look at him with reverence, something he loathes. I wasn't revered, but I also felt otherized in my class. When I asked why I was treated differently, people said I had 'different aura' than others( still have no idea what that means). So i relate with kal there, being a freak kinda sucks. Infact wasn't there a flashback chapter where kal's officer punished him just so that his teammates treat him as an equal. I think kal was extremely grateful for that.
  14. We know, Investiture isn't exactly energy but it can be used up. But unlike energy, investiture returns, as we learn about ruin's atim cache. So can we use this to create a perpetual motion machine? The time required for one cycle of the machine is equal to the time it takes for the investiture used up to turn back. We will end up getting a perpetual motion machine of the first kind
  15. What would he be a hypocrite about? What internal feelings are you talking about? I don't remember
  16. I never actually thought of it that way... You know what, i agree with you. Future context nothwitstanding, this was a dumb and cowardly move from Kal at that time. He is just running away from his responsibilities here. Fantasy always has the theme of good people always reject power. It's a theme i don't fully agree with, and i had not noticed here. When you reject power, you also reject influence. Kal is a soldier and there really isn't a difference between a spear and a shardblade. They are just weapons. You changed my mind. Total wrong move.
  17. Not actually. The wob comes from the fact that hesina and aesudan(elhokar's wife) are the ones that are actually related. WoB confirmation I have absolutely no idea where Brandon is going with this minor plot point. It's so wierd.
  18. How does the singers having perfect retaining of voidlight have a connection with why they don't move their dead? And Brandon says it is part of the answer. So why do the singers not move their dead?
  19. We have no confirmation that sja anat could not corrupt radiant spren before. In her interlude, she says she could not corrupt Oathgate spren before. As for why she wouldn't, the radiant spren has to be willing. The spren hate humans right now, but back then they were buds. Why would they enlighten?
  20. I am of the opinion that this WoB is a complete mistake by Brandon since there really is no way to interpret that recording. He probably got a little too excited and forgot thaat there was a minor character who had a corrupted spren before. Why else would it be a 'particularly small emerald?'
  21. Oof yes. WoK has the best ending i have ever read in my limited book reading experience. Nothing has topped that. While not an ending, WoR has a scene very similar at the arena battle which is my fav scene in that book, not the ending. OB ending was carried hard by Dalinar, both kal and shallan did not make me feel much... RoW was same, but mainly because I thought ressurecting tien was cringy. If not maybe I would have liked it. What I loved about the row sanderlanche was.... Todium.
  22. Whether win or lose, the contract guarantees that there will be no more hostilities between the two sides. In that case, it is very likely that odium somehow makes Dalinar break the contract, since that's the only way hostilities can remain in the story at this point. While I expect the contest of champions to end in total failure for our heroes, i agree that the ending will still be a victory. Especially because ending an arc on a loss and not coming back to the world for 5 years might make people lose interest. But they are all small, localised events in an area. The fact that kaladin has stopped the storm partially twice might be foreshadowing that he will inspire the stormfather to stop the entire storm for him. It will be the stormfather's choice and his arc will be completed.
  23. If the word cancrine appears in a SA book, that will be all the confirmation i need. Great idea. Now tie this to singing somehow ( since that is a huge part of the culture) and triple yahtzee
