  1. Is there a new live read? Link please? Thanks
  2. The full quote here means a person who doesn't believe in God or gods or lacks belief in the existence of God or gods. My definition is the same as the first one. Atheists won't believe(worship or give any authority to) in the Abrahamic God or Zeus even if they saw them.
  3. No, atheism does not mean the denial of the supernatural. There are many atheist who believe in ghosts, or in mind over matter or other supernatural sounding ideas. Atheism is expressly the denial of any divine authority and worship. If Zeus appeared in front of an atheist, he will only consider Zeus as a very powerful being, 'godlike' in magnitude of power but with no actual authority over the atheist(No one should worship some guy just because he has a bazooka right?). Especially in the modern age, where God now has the Abrahamic notations of omniscience, omnipotence and all-moral, many modern atheists believe in all sorts of things (even vampires) without believing in a God.
  4. But when does anti light repel other investiture?
  5. If he isn't anyone special(connected to worldhoppers or shards) then this guy has to be the most important person in scadrian history. And since scadrial is a future pillar of the cosmere, he is one of the most impactful figures in all of cosmere history too. And he wasn't even invested! This dude saved scadrial practically by himself, he made an entire organization shift their plans by two weeks while they were under duress of a dark god. He was smart enough to save his info after death. Dude is amazing. And most impressively, he wasn't used by any of the shards. For example Goradel from era 1 played a very important role for the story, but he was following Kelsier's plan. Harmony is blinded in Bilming, it's a blind spot and even later, he can only see through wax. He is a true hero! Though I could be completely wrong and he is someone important. In which case, imagine he is the protagonist of a potential secret history 2... That would also be very cool
  6. But people will only interact with vessels. Shards are just a bunch of investiture with no mind of their own, they need vessels. If shards are omnipotent, then how can there be more than one omnipotent thing? That destroys the meaning of what omnipotent is. We have also the the shards( the power) splinter after their vessels death. They become raw investiture with intent. How can omnipotence split? The Dor in elantris is a good example. It is just energy, a tool for people to use.
  7. Harmony spends the entire book blinded. Shards have died too. Not even close to omnipotent
  8. This has been answered. There is a direct wob that since kelsier can't really interact with the rosharan ghostbloods, they are able to do things he would not agree with. Mraize has probably changed the type of people they recruit in a bad way. We know, from a different wob i think, that even getting breath from ordinary Nalthians is ethically icky for them
  9. We know even children like shallan can become radiants. She even got till atleast 3rd ideal. I don't think the cosmere cares about minors and their consent laws. Intent is intent. Gavinor is old enough to want to fight moash and get revenge ie has enough brain capacity to choose to become the champion. He isn't a literal baby.
  10. I know, I know that there is a wob that says wit was duped. And i think that's true. But I don't think it's as clear cut as to what happened there. If you listen to the actual audio, it's not as confident as the text makes it seem too. The theory started when I started thinking, how will hoid even discover the deception so quickly? And what could he possibly even find out? Aren't the memories of the previous conversation destroyed anyway? So let's start the theory: What was the point in meeting with Rayse? Why did wit want this? He goes out of his way to meet Rayse by leaving the tower. He doesn't expect danger, sure, but this was a meeting he had 'planned'. But from his perspective, hoid just insulted Rayse and then left. Nothing of value seemed to have happened. So Why? The clue comes here... Rayse can't escape Roshar because win or lose the contest, Rayse is trapped on roshar I think Hoid just figured out the 'loophole' in the contract that taravangian was so excited about. And then everything falls in place. What was the point of the meeting? Both times, this is the only important thing he says to odium This is hoid trying to put odium's focus on dalinar. Why? Because hoid doesn't want odium to figure out the 'loophole'. This is the whooole point of the meeting. To invoke 'Rayse's ego and rage, make him more fixated on hoid and dalinar, so that he won't realise that there is a loophole. But in the scene, hoid figures out the loophole during the meeting, so it can't be the reason for the meeting right? This is the dirtiest trick of all Here's a question, why does Taravangian fiddling with hoid's Breaths make him forget the entire meeting? It enables Tara to play out the conversation a second time. The Breaths hold excess memories, but which memories?. I thought it would be the older memories that he has no more space for(too much long term memory), but its clear from the epilogue that it's actually short term memory that he has been storing in there. That is the only way hoid can completely forget the conversation, as Tara only tampered with the breaths and can't tamper with hoid's mind. Hoid probably reviews and deletes unnecessary memories daily. So imagine this, hoid is thinking one day and suddenly gets the idea of the loophole. This idea gets automatically stored in his short term memory breaths. Hoid decides to try and shift odium's focus to Dalinar, hoid and the fight. But he can't interact with 'rayse' while holding this incredibly dangerous idea in investiture, can he? Too risky. Even if Rayse won't attack hoid, maybe he could passively see the information on the breaths? Tara can apparently 'see' his memories but was still a bit hesitant on if he could destroy the breaths. And then.. So hoid cuts the idea of the loophole of from his breaths and stores it in something else, like perhaps a coin that he has been playing around with? A coppermind perhaps like many have theorised? There is that weird moment... Did he perhaps notice a bit of investiture where there should be none? Is the loophole in the coin? I mean take a look at this wording here... It's repeated twice. So here's how i think it's going to go. Hoid knows the meeting went exactly as 'planned' but he realises he doesn't remember the exact reason why the meeting had to happen. He sees design and she tells him about the corrupted windspren that he doesn't remember and that she felt the presence of odium. He sees his perfect pitch isn't working because some of his breaths are destroyed. Gears start turning and hoid examines what he brought for the meeting and sees the coins he brought along. He gets the idea and is left in horror that 'Rayse' was thoughtful enough to play alongwith the meeting and probably knows the loophole too. So what did hoid know? He knows the loophole, he makes himself forget it to protect it, he follows a general sense of a plan, he tries to trick odium into not focusing on loopholes, he then realises that 'rayse' played along for some reason. At no point does he find out about Tara being odium I know there are some weak parts here and there, but overall I think something similar is definitely going on. Thoughts?
  11. You will probably need to buy another house in a few years
  12. There is always a cost to having power...
  13. I have always felt that investiture is just spiritual energy or energy with emotions, thoughts and souls attached so should be very similar. Like I=KE=Kmc^2 For some constant K
  14. (Continuing the tradition of doing this in Ars Acanum style cuz why the heck not) This is also indicated by the fact that seemingly anyone in the world of Temerant can choose to train in these arts. They do not appear to be innately invested like Nalthians nor do they interact with a visible key to investiture like eating metals. This leads me to hypothesize that the cognitive realm is extremely invested. Sorry about double posting guys, won't happen again
  15. Well i did only do sympathy and naming, there are other systems too right? Sygaldry, artificing, maybe yllish knots? So you can say it is 2/3 done, heh. So there are more magic systems so it can be a dishardic world.
  16. So this is my attempt to put KC, Temerant and the story of Kvothe in the cosmere. I have no idea why I wrote this like an Ars Arcanum from khriss other than the reason that I am a giant nerd lol. Shardworld:Temerant Shards: Truth and Tenacity Magic Systems: Sympathy: This magic system works for anyone from this world. A user forges a connection between two things to manipulate them, like by transferring heat or motion, through pure force of mind. This works better if the objects are already well connected. This invested art is ofcourse related to Tenacity Naming: This is the invested art related to Truth. A user connects to the object's Identity (It's 'Name') to Command them by invoking its Name. It is to be noted that at no point does the Namer interact with the cognitive aspect of the object like in Soulcasting. Naming is not very well understood even by the people here. It is generally understood by the practitioners that a Namer requires an unconventional way of thinking or a broken mind. Indeed namers have the reputation of being quite eccentric. This bears many similarities to Snapping for Allomancy in pre-Catacendre Scadrial. (Also, i decided that copper is taking the place of Aluminium here which is why it is seemingly Nameless) Naming can further be extended to living people and the other cognitive entities of this planet. Fae: These are cognitive entities that inhabit the Cognitive Realm of Temerant. These entities are often shaped by the folklore and stories of the people of the physical realm, and they in turn influence the stories back. The local name for shadesmar here is The Fae Realm. There are still many mysteries to solve about Temerant Very curiously, travel to and fro to the cognitive realm is exceedingly easy and very strangely, done without the aid of a perpendicularity. Infact there is no perpendicularity on the planet. Travel to the Fae Realm is however only possible during moonless nights. There was a also a creature that I was warned not to interact with in my travels of the subastral, a fae creature known as the Cthaeh. Local legends surrounding creature suggest an almost Shardic-level of Future sight. This maybe fanciful exaggerations, but I suggest future explorers to steer clear as it's malavolence has been quite well documented. The local customs is also to ensure that no one who interacts with the creature survives. Other local legends, such as the the story of Lanre and Lyra, suggest that it may be possible to use someone's name to bring them back as a cognitive shadow Nazh, please be cautious in your investigations of The Academy. You may have a very unpleasant surprise in discovering that, masquerading as Master Namer Elodin, is our old friend Hoid, the Drifter
  17. The planet that was affected by microkinesis was Yolen not Ashyn Also, So i still think Ashyn was destroyed by a bondsmith unchained
  18. I did not say that Kal should have survived without surgebinding. Just that it was very convenient for Kal to have no plan for the intense danger level he put himself in and still survive with his nahel bond. He till the end never truly finds a way around it with his ingenuity, instead of all his other problems
  19. Definitely. Moash could have been a faar more interesting character. By rhythm of war, no longer. Brandon's mistake was connecting moash to the contentious lighteyes/darkeyes situation when ultimately his fall has nothing to do with it.
  20. It is so interesting to final see someone who hates moash and also recognises depth or tragedy in him. Surprisingly rare in the forums, i feel
  21. Yes exactly. My point is then that Nidalak would be lucky instead of Kaladin. The bad taste in my mouth that I said earlier was that it took me till rereads to figure how important (and convenient) the nahel bond. On my first read through i was confused about the actual level of danger kal was in from the arrows, so i had no bad feelings then. This was just a me problem Still, not saying Kal isn't amazing, just that he is also lucky
  22. Why do u think that might happen? Was there some set up?
  23. But no matter how amazing of a person he is, he would have still died very quickly (within a week or two) if he hadn't been unconsciously redirecting the arrows. For example: if syl had slept for like three extra years(she was sleeping for thousands right?), She would have just started searching for a windrunner among millions of people(if my timeline is right). So she could not help Kal. Then he would have died quickly (as he insisted on staying at the front of the bridge) Another example: What if the bridge three leader imitated Kal after being inspired? There are no honorspren to bond him. Then wouldn't he die? . My point isn't that kal doesn't deserve credit at all. My point is he was lucky, that's nothing to be ashamed of. The circumstances were so dire that he would have died without luck. Opportunity is Luck+Preparation after all. I agree that there is a good chance that everyone is meant for greatness. But the way he gets his power is still lucky. If odium had taken just 50 more years to push the everstorm, syl prolly would not have bonded Kal. This is not an attack against Kal. He did his very best, but it would not have been enough without syl. Success isn't after all just hard work. That's not me saying that, it's Brandon saying that. Kal is lucky and he deserves it. But a lot of people don't get what they deserve (even in Brandon's stories). Kal did.
  24. Sure, but if he is destined to atleast have the capability to be great, then isn't he lucky? Yes he suffers a lot of tragedy, but he has actual power and influence around his surroundings. Common people also have suffered tragedies, but they have no power to change their situation. Basically Kal gets to survive when others don't. Isn't that lucky?
