  1. Kal saving Dalinar, and Dalinar giving up the shardblade. Nothing in these books has ever come close to that. That is the peak of this series. Kal saving Adolin, you cannot have my pain are close tho An underrated one to me is Kal admitting he could not swear the third ideal in Oathbringer. And it not mattering as Dalinar helped them out instead
  2. This is my one major complaint with this book. If cultivation thought that Dalinar needed to learn all this.... Why not just tell him????
  3. Jesus Christ ma dude . Fine, in this hypothetical scenario, Vasher is forced to awaken nightblood before Shashara does, but is still allowed to give another command that starts with "Destroy blank" Is there anything else I have missed I thought of this too, but is do nothing even a command
  4. This is a discussion forum tho. I have seen less formal discussions here too. Not everything is super serious all the time here. Mine isn't even that silly. I just wanted discussion on what to fill after "Destroy". I wasn't specifically looking for jokes, I just thought that they would be inevitable. I saw a very similar old post right here. Utilitarianism, I think this is a good command to give to nightblood. Or maybe... "Destroy Nothing" do negative commands work? Destroy yourself? Destroy Shashra?( Limiting the command to one single person to minimize destruction) What happens to the Breath after the command is fulfilled? Would it just return to Vasher?
  5. Cooooool. That's a really interesting idea. I still think it could be Hoid, but this is fun too
  6. Yea ok, but I specifically wanted to know if Vasher was sent to the exact point where he originally said "destroy evil" and got that redo instead. Ofcourse if he could stop the creation of nightblood altogether he would obviously do that, but that obviously wasn't what I was interested in. I just wanted some fun commands to put on Nightblood. Everyone in this thread is taking it waaaay too seriously
  7. So, what intent should nightblood get so that it isn't super dangerous? I don't, I just wanted to know what Vasher would do if he got a redo. This time he doesn't want many people to die Well there are many commands that could be safe if there are are no constraints. I just wanted to know if there were any safe commands that started with "destroy"
  8. His aim is to make sure that this powerful sword doesn't cause a lot of death. He thought destroy "evil" was a good idea, but a sword doesn't know what evil is, so what should the the command have been? Additional constraint, if a sword is meant to cut or destroy, and the command has to include that sentiment, then what command should it be given? For the first case, i thought maybe :"Stay here" so that all of that investiture is focused on staying put in a place. But this is an easy one i think. For the second case:.. I have no idea.
  9. Cognitive shadows don't have a valid connection to the physical realm, so they are not good vessels for a shard. This is why Tanavast stapled his cognitive shadow onto the stormfather who, even though is a spren, does have a connection to the physical realm to the storm Abdication as a good thing though, rather than bad. Dalinar's arc this book will involve him either refusing to give up power, or accepting that loss of power. This makes sense for Honor as a shard tho. It is the idea that wanting power is inherently dishonourable. This is why one of the main things that attracted Syl to Kal was him giving up the shards. We don't know for a fact that Honor did swap with someone or left the power on his own before the recreance. I think you are right that Tanavast left on his own, but I think it's during the recreance We know from Wobs that Tanavast's death was a protracted event. He was attacked near the last Desolation but died after the recreance. The loss of his sanity was gradual, because he was losing a viable connection to the physical realm as his body was dying. Also, I am confused. Honor got crazy near the recreance. Nohadon was loong before that. How does this point to your theory? Wait, if the duplicate is just a cognitive shadow, then it would not have a connection to the physical realm at all. Which would mean that Honor would get crazy very quickly.
  10. In TLM, Brandon decided to go gloves off for the cosmere. This is mostly fine, since practically everyone has the internet now so they can understand references later. But because of that, Brandon is now under explaining many important and basic parts of the cosmere since he assumes everyone knows everything already. And that is missing many character moments. For example in TLM, Sazed casually namedrops Autonomy to the shock of all us fans. It is a good surprising moment, but it loses a lot of that fun when you consider it from Wax's point of view. He has no real context on what Autonomy is. He doesn't get Wobs. He didn't debate whether trell was Odium or Autonomy. To him, the name doesn't mean anything. Is that bad? No. But it could be better. I believe this should have been the moment that the context of the shattering should have been explained by Sazed. Wax: But what is Autonomy?? Sazed: Long before I, Sazed, was born.... How cool would that be?? Our first official description of the Shattering talked about in awe, wonder and horror by someone who wasn't even there. And wax realising that his entire mythological understanding is only 1/8th of a larger whole. His planets apocalyptic tales were a tiny event in the scale of the cosmere. How horrifying would that have been? Wax already knew other gods existed, but this would floor him. But Secret History already has the context of Adonalsium. Yes, but it's a side book that goes the snarky way of explaining the event and focuses more on the comedic and cynical side of that event. I still don't know if Wax and Marasi even know about Adonalsium at all. And Brandon made the same mistake here in the Stormlight Archive, i believe. Rayse is dead. There is a new vessel of Odium. Wit is freaking out a bit. We already established that Fen distrusts Wit very much. What should have happened was Fen getting angry asking by why vessels mattered, what was a vessel anyway, what is the difference between a shard and a vessel and burts out,who Wit was anyway to know all of this. And Wit takes a breath, goes solemn and starts. "There were seventeen of us...." This is the grounding context of the cosmere. It is the main event. How do we still not have a single moment in a main book in the cosmere explaining this?(I know it's in Dawnshard, but why would Rysn care much??) I want to hear Wit's version of the shattering. Is he completely regretful? Or still a bit confused on if it was right or not. Have Dalinar and Navani even internalised that there are other planets out there?? Wit casually drops this in conversation and no one, and I mean no one has any curiosity about aliens. Kaladin is like that too, Hoid and Vasher drop bombs about other worlds, and Kaladin reacts like he is more interested in eating stew than about freaking aliens. What the hell? That's it. That's the post
  11. That is a problem of Stormlight Archive as a whole
  12. Dalinar still has the rock with him, he just lost the anchor to come back to Wit. It's very possible he will see that vison
  13. Dalinar calls that something "beyond Honor" so that kinda distances Honor and Nohadon. Infact Stormfather references the name Unity, which definitely feels like it means something to those visions
  14. Then it is more likely that no one abdicated. Tanavast maybe decided to off himself since it is stated to be almost impossible to let go of a shard. Kaladin did try to jump into the "Honor chasm" after all. That name always struck me as wierd. Maybe it's foreshadowing. I mainly take issue with Nohadon having anything to do with Tanavast, since nothing suggests anything changed in that time
  15. I agree there is a good chance that Tanavast abdicated. Just doesn't mesh with the timeline when you put Nohadon in the mix. Also, Whether Dalinar can choose to give up power will be the arc this book has for him, so obviously it will get focused on here
  16. Mechanics wise it actually makes very good sense. We have seen that spren have very rigid definitions of Honor(like Stormfather) due to their lack of connection to the physical realm. When the vessel of a shard starts dying, the shard loses a connection to the physical realm. If there is no one around to wield it , the shard of Honor will change and become more rigid. Timeline wise, Honor started changing after Aharitiem, not during Nohadon times. So I don't think that works
  17. Isn't the simpler explanation that he was slowly dying between Aharitiem and recreance? This caused him to go mad
  18. Shallan: There is a shadowy group trying to control Roshar Rlain: Fym by that, didn't you just destroy them 3 seconds ago?? Shallan: No, another one. And I am a member Rlain: ffs. Meanwhile Hoid Hey, heard you were going to the spiritual realm. Here's a rock I picked up from your original planet 7000 years ago, no biggie. Navani: ..... How Renarin thinks Shallan thinks: Wheeeeeee look at me go!
  19. I don't think it has to someone Dalinar cares about as champion... Why should it be.? There is no confirmation that the loophole is the person who will be Odium's champion. Since Dalinar is trying to get the powers of a Bondsmith unchained, he will be as powerful as Ishar atleast(Dalinar is specifically asking for Ishar's help). Nale could be a great choice for the contest. Or it could be Ishar himself. Or El. It doesn't have to be Adolin or Renarin or Gavinor
  20. I am surprised that I don't see this theory more often.... I feel it is very obvious that, the Oathpact was a mechanism devised by Honor and the Heralds to seal the Fused on Braize. While back on Roshar, Humans aand Singers were supposed to come together and make peace. Of course, since both civilizations were thrown back to the Stone Age, this is easier said than done. A sizable number disparity alone would be enough to ignite tensions. Odium would also obviously try to restart wars again. It would be easier because the desolations were in recent memory. We see even now, when humans and singers had practically forgotten about each other, it didn't take much for the war between races to start again. I know, the Stormfather says that Tanavast was blinded by his shard and did not realise that men could break oaths But this is clearly not true. The Stormfather needed to bond with Dalinar to see honor in the Heralds. He is only then truly able to empathise with them. Honor, 7000 years ago, was not dying or raving. That came near his death, in the recreance. 7000 years ago, he was fine. The shard of Honor would obviously have seen that there was honor in redemption. A strong evidence for this theory? The oaths of the heralds can be bent, without breaking. We haven't seen an oath like that ever... The mechanism to let the fused through is torture. Something Dalinar immediately sees through, but somehow a shard is unable to see coming. Even now, after the Oathpact was abandoned, it still exists. It is only broken by Jezrien's death, not by the abandonment itself! No, the heralds and Honor were not dumb. They chose to get tortured. This was their penance for humanity crossing Shinovar. Why is that Taln was not supposed to be there? Because he never did anything wrong to begin with. He was just a soldier The other 9 heralds were the ruling elite, who were all probably in some way responsible for the First Desolation. In the Nale Jezrien vision, Jezrien admits it is his fault. Shalsh might be the Girl who looked up. Ishar was tricked by Odium. Taln was the only one who did not need to pay penance for his mistake. The Heralds probably expected the Desolations cycle to last around 500 years or so. They do seem to be able to withstand torture to a ridiculous degre for some reason. Maybe they were built that way. Remember all it takes for the Desolations to stop is that Singers and humans choose peace just once. That's all it would take. Just once. Maybe Horneaters and Herdazians were partially successful attempts
  21. Jezrien is dead
  22. Wit realised much later that Odium had been replaced. In ch 3 when he is talking to Kal, he has no idea. Sibling also kinda starts talking about the older God's kinda out of nowhere. It's not the worst thing in the world, but it is a little wierd How does that connect to moving Stormlight in a gem away from Roshar?
  23. She is for some reason the Ghostbloods mission. Why? Something about moving Stormlight. Honestly I have no idea if she will be a villain
  24. Child Champion stocks are rising!!!!! It does feel really wierd that everyone is suddenly talking about the Old God's. Feels like Brandon setting up stuff he should have set up books ago. Mishram is totally evil, and wants to Break it All. Fun!
