I am rereading Oathbringer, and I found this quote from the Stormfather in chapter 38, when he is talking to Dalinar and Navani about Taln: Now, this contradicts the SA5 prologue, where the (supposed) Stormfather says that a Herald has died. It also contradicts a WoB where Brandon said explicitly that Taln did not break. So what's going on here? If we assume that the being Gavilar interacted with in the SA5 prologue is indeed the Stormfather, then he knew that another Herald had died. So why would he not say so to Dalinar? Was he lying to Dalinar? Is he purposefully trying to obscure the knowledge of the Herald dying? Or do you feel this supports the theory that the being Gavilar interacted with was not the Stormfather, and therefore the Stormfather doesn't know about the Herald dying?

Thanks! That kind of confirms that, then? It seems logical that spren tied to different Shards come with different abilities, and that is why Lift cannot breathe Stormlight while everybody else can.

Is it perhaps possible that Wyndle is a spren of Cultivation, not Honor? We know that normal spren are considered 'of Honor' while corrupted spren are considered 'of Odium'. Could it be that there are also spren 'of Cultivation', and Wyndle is one of them? Bonding a spren that is not of Honor doesn't mean someone can't be a Knight Radiant -- Renarin, after all, bonded a corrupted spren. And Wyndle is always talking about how he was a gardener, 'cultivating' things, and he also says that the other spren don't like them very much (maybe because they're different?). It seems logical that someone who bonded an Honor-spren gets their Stormlight from actual Stormlight, because it comes from the Stormfather, who is a spren of Honor. However, getting your Stormlight from food seems to perfectly fit in with Cultivation. It's clear that Lift is in some way linked to Cultivation -- maybe just through of her boon from the Nightwatcher, but I think it's more than that, it seems like Lift was in some way 'chosen' by Cultivation. When she appears in the vision, the Stormfather is really angry, saying something like, She's doing this to annoy me. 'She' could refer to Cultivation.

Don't you think that the right spren would find them, no matter what? Do you think an honorspren would really bond a stoneward in the first place? Though it does seem strange that all of Bridge Four seems to be developing into Windrunners... Maybe if you have KR potential, you can be a squire for any order and pick up some of their powers, but you will not be able to bond a spren unless you really fit in. I suppose likely candidates were taken to Urithiru where they would be exposed to all of the orders and their spren, which would make it easier to find the right order and bond.

Interesting thought. However, unlike the Shardblade, it seems to me that the Plate is not formed up of spren who bond to an individual, but of the spren (of a certain type) that happen to be closest at the time. And I think any corrupted spren would simply not be drawn to form Plate, so that wouldn't be much of a problem. I suppose it could be an issue if she was close to a KR and corrupted the spren while they were already formed up as Plate, thereby removing the protection (until new spren gather, I suppose). However, we have to take into account that Sja-anat's corrupting influence is clearly not the same anymore as it was before. Sja-anat seems to have gained more self-awareness and is throwing off Odium's influence. I think that would change how her corruption influences the affected spren. It used to be impossible for a Radiant to bond a corrupted spren, but Renarin has bonded Glys and he seems alright? It feels like things are getting mixed up: a KR bonding a spren of Odium, a singer becoming a KR,... things aren't what they used to be So, either way I don't see this becoming much of a problem, though I may of course be wrong

I think (just guessing here) that you have to be 'open' to Odium to be influenced by the Thrill. You have to feel passion, you have to want to kill. That's why Sadeas's soldiers were so easily corrupted -- Odium said so himself: there was already hatred in their hearts, they were receptive to the Thrill. I think Kaladin is tied too strongly to Honor -- he fights because he believes it's right, not for the pleasure of killing. Remember too that Syl said that she'd been with him since his days in Amaram's army, meaning that even back then, he was already linked to Honor. We see that Dalinar increasingly starts to reject the Thrill (during the wrestling match in OB, for example), showing us that most of the time, it's something that you can accept or reject, depending on your state of mind.

My favorite character in this was definitely Jasnah! She stole my heart back in WoK, and I'm so glad we got some POV chapters for her in OB -- can't wait to read her flashback book in the back five! She is the kind of character we don't often get to see in fantasy, or media in general, and she was absolutely badass in this book! I also really liked Lift, and Szeth is really growing on me. I loved his interactions with Nightblood. I wasn't too keen on a Dalinar book before starting OB, but he has now become one of my favorite characters.
