I just went to see my school’s production of A Christmas Story: The Musical!
‘Twas quite good. Maybe I should try to be in a play…

i said what i said
-
Two things:
1: Yesterday I got 4 cavity fillings with no numbing shot. (It didn’t hurt, thankfully)
2: My dad tested positive for COVID today so I have to stay home from school tomorrow and I hate missing school and I’ll likely have to miss more because I might have it because we live in the same house but I’m hoping that if I retain the mental state of denial I can get the Placebo effect to kick in to keep the symptoms at bay for as long as possible and I think I might be getting a little stressed out…
But other than that, life’s good!

I got COVID about a week and a half ago. Sadly, I'm back in school tomorrow. I'm already getting tortured by waking up at a reasonable hour, and I'm not looking forward to another hour before that.
-
I just went to my school to get tested and I don't have any symptoms, so I'm hoping I can go back tomorrow. But I still have to do all my classwork for today at home if I want to stay caught up, so that's fun.
-
Personally, I only did about 2-3 hours of school per day while I was home, so I still have a bunch to catch up on.
-
My younger brother is a scudding super-genius! He came up to my dad with his Periodic Table of Elements book and had my dad read him off the symbols one by one and he would say what element it was. Out of 118 elements, he got 115 with ease and 2 with a few hints, and only one we needed to tell him. Also, he’s in the sixth grade. What sixth-grader can list pretty much every element when just given it’s symbol? I honestly think he should skip a few grades. Or maybe all of them.

Anybody else not have enough time for the shard for about a week and come back and find out everyone has been having fun without you?
This happens to me all the time.
Also, sidenote- What is the time period to respond to status updates for you people? I usually only reply if the last comment on the update is within about a day.

Any more than a day and I tend to not reply. Replying at any time after that tends to just be annoying.

@Chasmgoat, you say that after it has been more than 1 day...

Stake dances are fun. And loud.

There’s another stake dance at a neighboring stake on Saturday in the state that your profile says you live in as well… what if it’s the same stake??? It’s very most likely not, but…
At the most recent dance at that stake (which I went to with some cousins) cops were called on us and they played a song from Frozen. Does this sound familiar? If so… then I know what stake you’re in. If not, then oh well.
-
I don’t think that happened but maybe I missed it This one is one where we’re inviting a neighboring stake.
-
My stake had their first one on Tuesday, which I successfully avoided. I might consider going to the next one lol. I'm glad you had fun

Lemme know if you want help with the history homework! I took AP World History last year and am taking AP US this year, so I should know some stuff.

A lot has happened today.
First, happy birthday to Nacho! He’s now one year old!
He was so little when we got him and now he’s a big fluff muffin
The second thing that happened was that after my PE class (which is right before lunch) I had a vertigo episode so I got picked up early and now I have a bunch of homework from all my missed classes.
The third thing that happened was that I got a bunch of matching jewelry from Amazon (including a tiara, of course) that I can wear to my school’s Sadie Hawkins dance with the theme ‘dipped in gold’. I also went shopping with my mom and I got a new ballet leotard and some fleece fabric to make super fluffy pajama pants.

Question: what is wallfowering?
2nd question: what if I bring my heeled boots for pictures but then wear tennis shoes for actual dancing?
-
Wallflowering is staying by the wall doing nothing
why are you even at the dance if you're just going to sit there staring for four hours?
(The heels thing is a suggestion from my girl friends to you)

I’m having an arranged marriage.- Show previous comments 2 more
-
???
Please elaborate.
-
So, my dad’s friend from college and his family live near us so we go hang out with them a lot. The family has 3 boys: one my age, one my little sister’s age, and one who is 6 years old. Because my and the oldest are the same age and we are both nerds, my parents/his parents joke about us having to get married. Honestly, he wouldn’t be the worst person to have an arranged marriage with because he also likes books (though I have yet to introduce him to Sanderson), though it’s really weird to think about it because us kids are practically cousins.

-
So… Looks like I disappeared again!
For like five weeks.
Um.
Whoops.
Well, life happens, I guess!
Some things that happened while I was away:
- I had a really bad day consisting of things like being out of butter for my toast, being late to school, a fake fire alarm, having to miss 95% of my 6th period class because a girl decided it was a good idea to vape in the locker room, and hectic after-school activities.
- WE GOT AN OCULUS!
- I went to see a play put on by the high school my brother goes to and it was awesome. (It was based on the CLUE board game/movie, I think?)
- I read the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini and I thought it was amazing, though some of my cousins thought that series was a snooze-fest. I honestly don’t see why, but I guess my opinion backs my theory that I don’t often see the flaws in things unless they’re blatantly obvious or someone else points them out. (Why be negative when you can be positive, after all?) (Also side note about the Inheritance Cycle: I highly suggest reading it if you haven’t already. The world-building is near Sanderson level in depth and there are DRAGONS.)
- One day in church, I realized that Kaladin and the Joseph story in Genesis in the Bible have frighteningly similar stories. Just think about it for a minute.
- I co-wrote a story with an AI. Well, I started one, that is. I think that I might post it on here when I finish with the first draft or so.
- Wicked (the musical) came to my city and my family went and HOLY COW WAS IT GOOD EVERYONE NEEDS TO SEE IT IF YOU HAVE THE CHANCE AND THE SONGS HAVE BEEN STUCK IN MY HEAD 24/7 AND IT’S JUST SO GOOD! My favorite song from it is probably Popular because it’s so fun to sing
- I was diagnosed with Brandofandonitis and ordered the highest dosage of Quadrovela because of how severe my condition is.
- For spirit week at my school, there was a ‘fandom’ day and I dressed as a Mistborn and was constantly saying “We Mistborn need not make sense. It is beneath us.” My friend dressed as Spensa (to the best of her abilities) and I even brought my Doomslug plushie for her to carry around.
- While watching General Conference, I colored some coloring pages with dragons on them and ate Girl Scout cookies. It was very enjoyable.
- I re-read Cytonic and we finally bought the Reckoners series for me to re-read. We found a hardcover box set on Amazon for really cheap, which was awesome.
- It’s spring break! Yay! I finally got my room clean and today we went to a trampoline park. It was super fun.
- The Skyward Flight collection came!!! Signed and numbered: #1864!
Now if you’ll excuse me while I go through my 180 notifications.

Welcome back! I want a fandom day at our school now!!! That sounds like a very enjoyable break from the Shard!
-
I forgot to mention that for the last day before spring break, we had a game day in my ELA/History class and I brought Call to Adventure: the Stormlight Archive and I played with my teacher and two of my classmates. (I won, probably because I’ve actually played it before.) It was very fun

That sounds so cool! I've always wanted to play that game
-
Tonight I had a Young Women youth activity that was a sort of get-to-know-you game night. Everyone brought an object they felt represented them and then we played games.
As the dedicated Sanderson fan I am, I brought Skyward.
And Starsight.
And Cytonic.
And my Doomslug plushie.
And my M-bot pin.
And all my Cytonic stickers. *[Related tangent in spoiler box below]*
And a Cytonic bookmark.
And a "Merry Christmas from Detritus" drawing I made as a Secret Santa gift for Ookla the Theoretical.
I think I got the point across that I like books.
After everyone shared their items, I played a game called "Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza" with two other girls and two leaders. 'Twas fun.
*Tangent:
SpoilerA few weeks ago, my mom saw a car in the pick-up line in my sister's elementary school with a "Life before Death" bumper sticker. She told us when she got home and we told her she had to say something to the owner of the vehicle next time she saw it.
Fast forward to the next week or so, and she said she exchanged phone numbers with the owner of the vehicle- I'll reference her as "Eva".
Eva has four kids, with the youngest two being two-year-old twins. The reason I brought this up is because of the twins' names: Kaladin and Elend.
[Insert excited mental screaming here]
Anyway, she went to the Cytonic release convention thing (because she just happened to be in the area visiting family) and got some stickers and a bookmark, which she didn't really need and decided to give to us!
I haven't actually met her, but I really want to so I can meet the twins. Because I need to make sure they become book nerds so they can properly appreciate their name's origins.
:)

I finished my poem!
SpoilerOne friend is sad
The other hates life
Another is mad
And more are in strife
Then why am I happy?
I’m living on a cloud
I’m always so peppy
And have reasons to be proud
When my friends need rescue
I’m a sympathetic soul
But how can I feel cut in two
When I’ve always been whole?
How am I supposed to empathize
With what I’ve never felt?
Should I maybe deemphasize
The feelings with which I’ve always dwelt?
Do I change nothing
Staying blind to what they feel,
Or do I love nothing
And let gloom take the wheel?
Should I only let darkness in my sight
So I can feel like my friend?
Or to them should I be a light
So they know it’s not the end?
Thus my inner turmoil sings
With pleads to understand
And with which my soul does ring
With yearning to take their hand
I want to say “it’ll all be okay”
But would my friends believe me?
To me, it’s always been this way
So how do I set them free?
This is all so confusing
But maybe I don’t need to revise
Maybe I’m doing enough and improving
So my happiness I won’t need to compromise
When they’re lost
Their path I can illuminate
After dangerous terrain they’ve crossed
Safety for them I can communicate
When they seem to forget
I can pull their mind back
To where who they are isn’t a threat
A safe place where their feelings we can unpack
If they start to panic
I’ll try to calm their mind
Their thoughts wild, tangled, and frantic
We can work to unwind
And when they're trapped in darkness, in pain they cannot hide,
In where the world to them, it seems, is anything but kind
I can help them heal and grow to see the other side
Though their life may be full of it, in me contention they won’t find
I don’t have to know what my friends are going through
To be the friend they need
Even if the world’s untrue
In honesty our lives can lead
Be there for the ones you fill with care
Lend a loving heart and hand
Keep far from all the sorrow and despair
Be a friend and understand
Sometimes friendships are what we rely upon
The only rock in our foundation
So together we must keep them going strong
For friends are the reasons of our creation
My friend (who is a Sanderfan) and I were talking about what roles Cosmere characters would take on in a high school setting and it was really fun and maybe I’ll make a thread about it if I feel motivated enough.- Show previous comments 1 more

So I’m not even going to try to catch up on all my notifications.
if anything super important or life-changing happened, I’ll look at it if you tell me where to find it. I’ll try to catch up on (some) of the RPs I’m in, but I just want to be present again (especially now that Mini-Mini-Enter has joined)! You people are storming awesome and I’ve missed being here!
So a quick overview of what’s happened on my end:
I started high school!
We got another kitty! (Her name is Pepper and she’s a teeny tortoiseshell)
We got a puppy! (Her name is Poppy and she’s a teeny cavapoo)
I’m learning to sew!
I met another Sanderfan!
I’m in a DnD club!
I’m in a club that is basically off-season colorguard!
I have little to no free time each week and that free time is spent reading or procrastinating, but I hope to procrastinate by coming on here instead of doing something like watching YouTube.
I had a goal to rereread the entire Mistborn and W&W seriess before tLM came out but I underestimated how much time high school takes up, especially with having one or two after-school things 4/5 days of the week. I’m currently on HoA and am trying to read faster so I can get to tLM!
(oh also I’m sleep deprived :D)

Cousin (C): Hey, I got a new book from the library and it’s really good.
Me (E): Cool, what is it?
C: Let me read you the first paragraph. [Gets book] Only fools climb to the surfa-
E: I KNOW WHAT IT IS, I KNOW WHAT IT IS!!!

E: Skyward, by Brandon Sanderson!!!

I just got a spam call and I was like, Ooh, maybe it’s a call center and I can mess with them! It was, indeed, a spam call center. I made my voice sound old and went through all the pleasantries, then the guy on the other line said, “I understand you’re looking for the best Medicare plan.” And I said, (still in my old lady voice), “Well, I’m 14 so my parents take care of everything.” There was a pause. “Hello?” I asked.
”Shut up, [b-word],” the guy replied.
Commence immediate laughter from my sister and I and a hanging up of the phone.

Sigh.
I'm tired.
Wanna know why? Three reasons:
- School.
- Lack of sleep.
- My younger sister constantly arguing with everything and whining and being like a stereotypical teenager even though she's still in elementary school. (I love her, but she's the one person on this planet who can infuriate me.)
Also yesterday my dad put me in charge of all my siblings (Even Enter, who's older than me), and in charge of making sure my mom doesn't give in to my sister's whining and begging. Because my mom is too nice and needs to use her mom voice once and a while.
Being responsible can kinda suck at times.
(Also, random question, what do normal people do when they invite friends over when your friend has only read one Sanderson book, and that was because we had to read it at school?)

A couple of weeks ago, I found out that we are doing a class read of a novel in third period with two other classes. There were three candidates: Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo, Fellowship of the Ring by J. R. R. Tolkien, and [Drumroll please...]
...
SKYWARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For the next while, I brought my copy of Skyward to school, shared hilarious Spensa quotes, and made people vote for Skyward. When my teacher put out the Google Form for the vote, I was really exited. I kept recruiting people to my side, and the winner was finally released.
The winner is...
SpoilerSKYWARD
!!!!!
The winner was released on Friday or Thursday last week, and me and my family went on a vacation to visit family over Memorial Day weekend, but we had to (sadly) miss school (Where they would start reading the book) yesterday in account for us driving back home. I brought Skyward with me so I could read it on our drive.
BUT
When we were packing to go home, I could not find Skyward anywhere.
This really scared me because, in my opinion, books have the equivalent worth to diamonds.
When we got home and eating dinner, I suddenly remembered something. Sometime during our trip, I put my book in the front pocket of my backpack. I tried not to get my hopes up, but when I opened my backpack, there it was.
Today at school, three classes read part of Skyward and was introduced to the wonderful world of Sanderson books.
I'm just so elated.
