  1. You appear to have travelled back in time, @FictionSpren2019 Granted. More Studio C references for you, however the show itself gets cancelled. I wish for a better 'the Golden Compass' movie but with similar high budget
  2. Well, I'm calling the gem library Stormlight Archives from now on, it fits perfectly
  3. Agreed. This belongs in General Discussions though
  4. Welcome the the Shard, @The Awakened Salad! Just out of curiosity, what was your Awakening Command? Hmm, also could you repeat the phrase "My life to yours, my breath become yours"?. I swear on my honor, nothing bad would happen. You could also join us over in
  5. Yup! Exactly my point. Other Shards' godmetals would just give a new power. And that's the only example of interaction between Allomancy and another Shard's Investiture we've seen so far.
  6. That's an insightful theory, @ChickenLiberty! Hmm, only problem is that storing Steel seems to sap speed of movement of the whole body of the Feruchemist, not just while they are trying to move from a certain distance.
  7. Not Mistings as we know them. At this point, another Shard's godmetal would be easier to find than using another Shard's Investiture to access the powers of common metals and alloys
  8. Allomancy is fuelled directly by Preservation with the metals as the keys deciding the "shape" of the Investiture, i.e., what the Investiture is supposed to do. Metal from any planet can be used to fuel Allomancy. But directly utilizing the Investiture of another Shard, bypassing the entire system of needing a Physical metal to guide the Investiture, is going to exceptionally difficult. The Allomancer would need to actively shape the Investiture somehow or hack his own Spiritweb to convert Investiture.
  9. Chapter 1 Rayas took a long, deep breath, trying to stop his trembling. Rain fell from the sky like tears as he raised his hand up to the sky listlessly. It looked so... dead, like his very skin was bleached of life. No, he told himself, it just seems that way because of the stories where giving your Breath away was to give up a part of your soul. That can't be true, I'm still alive... It had only been a week since Rayas had arrived in T'Telir, the boisterous capital of his country, Hallandren. Oh the beauty, the colours, the size, the noise, the life, the sheer grandeur of the city on the hill, as it was framed by the sun setting behind it, sinking into the sea. But then isn't our Breath supposed to be a part of our soul? He put his hand back by his side. And stared up, up, up at the sky. His eyes wandered back to the top of the buildings. The buildings that once seemed so colourful. Were they always this bland and yet so loud? They seemed ugly now, competing with one another, packed, fake. Where is the life? Where is the beauty? Where did it go? Where did it go?! Where did it go, where did it go, where did it go, where did it go?!! He took a deep shuddering breath. The rain still fell, he did not feel it. He was born with a strong, healthy breath. He was always told so, in the small riverside port-town he had grown up in. He had dreamed of this city then, with wonder in his heart. He had believed... Unbidden, his mind went back to that fateful choice. Why didn't I just walk away? He stood in front of a god. Lifeblesser, the god of healing. He stood nearly seven feet tall with sculpted muscles and a square jaw, with tousled brown hair and flowing robes. He didn't even seem to hear Rayas as he made his request. He was turned away, unheard. Why did he feel so dejected then? As though the fault lay with his own self! He remembered hearing the call... that Lifeblesser needed to be fed another Breath. He had been so excited! Foolish! Why did he want to feel acknowledged by a god when that god was so uncaring towards his followers?! Why did he believe in those lies? Why was he so naïve? Why did he go? Why did he give his Breath to that uncaring cretin pretending to be a god?! Rayas' eyes turned to the naked statue behind which he was taking shelter. Whose pretentious drapery he had stolen. Beauty, he spat. Somewhere, in the back of his mind, he knew that he should probably move away from it. The people who dressed up their statues probably wouldn't like it if they found out that a beggar had pilfered its clothes. He just couldn't bring himself to care. TBC
  10. Alendi's Journal, Elend and Vin's death, Leras' sacrificial plan Kaladin with Tien, the Bridgeruns, the truth about the Heralds Vivenna's sudden destitution The line of execution near the finale of Elantris
  11. What is the most important step a man can take? The next step, it's always the next step ~ The Way of Kings by Nohadon (paraphrased) Oddly, on occasion, I sense a peacefulness within. You would think that after all I have seen - after all that I have suffered - my soul would be a twisted jumble of stress, confusion, and melancholy. Often, it's just that. But then, there is the peace. I feel it sometimes, as I do now, staring out over the frozen cliffs and glass mountains in the still of the morning, watching a sunrise that is so majestic that I know that none shall ever be its match. If there are prophecies, if there is a Hero of Ages, then my mind whispers that there must be something directing my path. Something is watching; something cares. These peaceful whispers tell me a truth I wish very much to believe. If I fail, another shall come to finish my work. ~from Alendi's journal, the Final Empire
  12. @ND103, agreed, Kaladin x Lopen?! Love it! I ship it! Much better ship than Kaladin x Adolin, Kaladin x Renarin or Kaladin x Shallan! (and much healthier for Kaladin too!)
  13. Cyclone Kyarr just stole my umbrella...

    How's it treating you @The traveller, @PrinceGenocide?

Only book 2 of Magnus Chase is good.

The Kane Chronicles is pretty good though

  14. In the WoR epigraph Lightweavers are mentioned as "providing spiritual sustenance", we do see Shallan doing that multiple times, possibly Renarin too, when Adolin sees "a perfect version of himself", Kaladin does seem to have binding leadership qualities and people gravitate towards them... These touches are meant to be subtle, I think. With ideas influencing the world, (what with there being a literal realm of existence of ideas). Edgedancers might definitely turn out to be slippery in more ways than one...
  15. Never mind, I'll consider those two wishes Granted, area of your choosing has access to the Metallic Arts, but the 'burned' metal is truly destroyed when used and does not cycle back into the earth. Granted, Voidspren are free to roam the earth I want Capt. Jack Sparrow's compass
  16. In Asimov's Foundation series Gaia is a planet that has become a super organism with a single collective consciousness. Given the quote above maybe Sel is slowly moving in that direction?? Imagine a future in which the planet Sel is not only a conscious entity but also the vessel holding the shards of devotion and dominion ... I always thought that line from Khriss might refer to the nations on Sel, not the planet itself. As in, the nations are somehow beginning to differentiate between its own people and people from other nations (and being somewhat better at it than Nightblood trying to distinguish between good and evil) If the Dor itself gains consciousness... I like that theory very much @Parallax! Sadly, though: So, probably not
  17. @FictionSpren2019 that was the point So, make another wish to go with it I'll grant both at once!
  18. Granted. I give you Midas' touch. But not for gold. Everything you touch stops in time. I wish for... two wishes from the next applicant to the Nightwatcher
  19. Welcome to the Shard, @Koloss17! Saw your post on Aluminium Compounding, that's a question we've all had but sadly have no answer to yet. The reputation levels can get pretty confusing I remember being very unhappy when I first transformed from spren to skaa... Luckily, there's this thread: This thread explains reputation levels and what reaching each level means, just scroll down to Claincy's comment.
  20. Investiture is supposed to be an addition to matter and energy in the laws of physics, as a facilitator in conversion between all three of them. Except Investiture doesn't become 'potential Investiture' after 'work', it just flows back into the Spiritual Realm, to its Shard.
  21. I'll just have to wait till someone who knows Elder Scrolls comes along and fulfills my wish
  22. Sorry to say I disagree @The traveller. There are lesser Voidspren and Voidbinding capable Voidspren. Everyone at Thaylen City were using Stormlight to power their Surges instead of Voidlight... also I'm not to sure that Voidbinding is the manipulation of the Surges in the same manner as in Surgebinding. I would not consider what the Fused or the Regals were doing Voidbinding nor the Singers' Stormform and Amaram's army was under the Thrill of Nergaoul, which ended when Dalinar captured it. Argent has a thread on this, I think called Three Magics of Roshar. He explains Odium's 'void' and "give me your pain" too. I believe we've only seen the effects of lesser Voidspren. Ulim and that Voidspren Kaladin met leading the former Parshmen were definitely bond capable Voidspren though, but we haven't seen them bond someone yet. Amaram's physical characteristics were definitely changed by the Unmade: it gave him red eyes and he started to sprout crystals... same as Queen Aesudan before him when she swallowed Yelig-Nar's gem.
