  1. How complex can a Soulcaster get? Seems to vary by skill, Kaza says she can transform part of something rather than the whole, for instance. They can apparently transform stuff into edible food, and those can get chemically complex. I think they get a boost to certain basic transformations but can definitely get far more detailed as their scientific and Realmatic knowledge expands.
  2. Using Preservation's power to fuel Honor's magic should be possible since it seems Allomancy utilizes Preservation's pure Investiture with metal as the channel to determine function.
  3. So far, Aluminium seems to have Investiture negative properties. It is probably resistant to the point of being anti-Investiture. It is useable in the Three Metallic Arts, though those might be drawing on its Adonalsium-derived properties. Aluminium can travel through Perpendicularities, probably Oathgates too. We'll likely see that happen in Book 4 with Szeth. Whether he can open an Oathgates is another matter. My bet's on no, though. We haven't seen any examples of Aluminium in the Cognitive Realm. It presumably glows on Scadrial's subastral like all other Allomantic metals.
  4. And the fourth...
  5. I'm starting to doubt Tanavast's abilities tbh. I mean, war against the Singers, the Oathpact resulting in torture of his Heralds, the Recreance (though he was apparently losing his marbles by this point). He might have been well-meaning but I think he might have screwed up a few things.
  6. So, Stormwarden, when is the next Highstorm coming?

      :D Totally agree..

  7. The Well of Ascension refills every 1024 years The Ire knew of Devotion enough to pray to her directly, so very old. They might not even qualify to be called "Elantrians" by virtue of being older than when the city was founded. They might have been its original founders, who then abandoned it and then years later Arelon came to be colonized and King Rhashm, who renamed himself Raoshem made it the centre of his Kingdom and dubbed it 'Elantris'. It took a few decades before the Shaod started.
  8. He's kept mum on that, handing out RAFOs *sighs*, the only other thing I can recall about their Splintering is that Skai "went out swinging", Brandon said the same thing about Honor who successfully trapped Odium, and Ambition definitely fought back. So Splintering is a process, not just a strike to the back. We know he went after Ambition first but didn't find her, he did end up finding Devotion and Dominion and killed them, then stuffed them into the Cognitive Realm. Elantris is already very ahead in the Cosmere timeline, and Roshar has been having Desolations for millenia, 4500 years ago was just the Last Desolation. We actually don't know when Ruin and Preservation created Scadrial, we know other Shards did visit it. We also know that the Lord Ruler ruled for a 1000 years and that it has been 342 years since the Catacendre in Wax & Wayne1. Elantris is set almost 900 years before Warbreaker, which is set around a 1000 years after White Sand. Then comparing tech levels between the Shardworlds... Classical Scadrial was almost close to Wax & Wayne era Scadrial, Threnody had gunpowder before the Evil and after Mistborn era 1; Taldain already had guns long ago. I think, Scadrial might not even have been created when D&D Splintered.
  9. I'm of the opinion that bonding the Nightwatcher might very well require the prospective Radiant to go to the Nightwatcher to make a petition, as in ask for the boon of bonding her. Taravangian is disqualified since he's already visited her. Vasher/Zahel might have visited her too, what with Nightblood in her hands and him using Stormlight as Breath. It might be Investiture hacking that he did himself, he's certainly capable enough, but it could just as well turn out to have been an exchange rather than a Boon/Bane (teaching him the hack instead of the Old Magic to change his Spiritweb). He has enough grit to go back and ask to bond her. For the Sibling, I wanted someone gentle and connected to Roshar. Rlain just felt right.
  10. Nothing. I doubt Odium would leave behind even a drop of his Investiture like that. Also, you posted that twice, delete the second one
  11. Finally a Unite Them theory not declaring Dalinar the second coming of Adonalsium My favourite theory regarding this is that Unity is Dalinar's interpretation of Honor's Intent
  12. I think that might Connect you to everyone and basically make you very likeable to them or "make you their baby"
  13. There are probably multiple factors as to how Odium does what he does. He isn't just looking to be the top dog, he is also looking for competition, primarily to eliminate them, yes but also simply as competition We know that Odium does have an advantage against other Shards: I think Odium has had multiple advantages, related to his Intent, the Intent of those he has targeted, Realmatics of Investing a Shardworld, Realmatics of the particular Shardworld of his target(s), cunning & experience, willingness to kill in both person and Intent, politicking (as we see in the OB epigraph letters), etc. People usually cite the above WoB and other similar WoBs to speculate on a possible alliance between Odium and Autonomy, as well as the theory that he pitted Devotion and Dominion against one another There's this WoB: So, he probably had a temporary system of Investiture on Sel, Threnody, Ashyn and now Roshar. The Unmade might not even be from Roshar. He is going through the Shards on a case-by-case basis. He doesn't have one superweapon against the other Shards or else there wouldn't have been a fight between him and Ambition & later Honor, and Cultivation would be dead right now. There is something inherent to him that allows him to do what he has been doing: Which, I think, might be the freedom expressed through his Intent. Preservation couldn't kill, Odium definitely would have no such limitations. I've often wondered what exactly a Shard's Intent might be. We see with Cultivation and Honor how complicated these things could be. Honor is about creating and adhering to certain bonds and rules but there's also so many cultural aspects to it. Cultivation isn't just about natural growth, it's could also be pruning, grafting, killing weeds, strengthening the immune system, etc. More than that, the entire system of Surgebinding is an ode to the complexity of the ideas that these Shards inhabit. What is Odium? Given Adonalsium's Godlike nature, is Odium basically "divine wrath without context" or is there a Godly and Realmatic Intent that also translates into human intent, similar to Honor. Also: It looks like there's a another reason why Odium wants Cultivation dead and there is a method to Shatter a shard "like a swift decapitation" as Khriss put it, rather than "a slow strangulation". There are Orders of The Knights Radiant who had red eyes. Kaladin and Lift have the eye colours of their specific order, sapphire blue and clear diamond grey respectively. Only darkeyed Radiants' eye colours change, that's why Shallan, Jasnah or Renarin's eyes haven't changed. Only the Shardblades of Windrunners and Stonewards possibly from the Feverstone Keep, and the Edgedancers' blades have been seen bonded to Shardbearers. The Shardblades of the Orders of Dustbringers and Lightweavers, which would have resulted in red lighteyes, are missing. There might have been historical stigma attached to red eyes because of association with Voidbringers. We do know that the Dustbringers in particular were feared because of the "terrible nature of their powers" and that there were "to most there was little difference between these two assemblies ([Dustbringers] and [Voidbringers])". Lightweavers might have been similarly distrusted by pre-Recreance Roshar due to their illusion-crafting. Roshar was designed by Adonalsium and has a lot of ambient Investiture from before Honor and Cultivation's arrival. I don't see why these two Orders might not be the result of a little Investiture co-opting, that isn't just under the purview of evil Shards now, is it?
  14. Granted. However, you also summon a giant version of that object on top of a city, you are rendered incapable of registering this fact, and so end up massacring a lot of people every time you materialize something (in addition to giving everyone a peek onto your more embarrassing summons)
  15. hahahaha! Well, technically true that. Hmm, well at least another one of the main characters will "die" and *gasp* turn out to have survived! @Toaster Retribution, I think you double-posted. Lemme carry over @Nathrangking's comment: Please delete the other thread
  16. To elaborate: unsheathing him isn't the same as unsheathing any other fantasy run-of-the-mill magical swords. He isn't just dangerous as a sword, i.e. to cut things, he is also dangerous simply as a being. Even unsheathing him a tiny bit can allow him to kill. And of course unsheathed he can cut on all Three Realms and absorb the Spiritual Investiture of whatever he cut, with the price of sucking in Investiture from his wielder as well. He can apparently collapse a Perpendicularity and even Hoid gives him a wide berth. Holding him isn't the same as wielding him, he chooses his wielder, sort of "bonding" them. Others can pick him up (and then stab themselves with him still fully sheathed because they're not not-evil as they were tempted by him). Nightblood is very strange. His sheath is aluminium (which is how us, non-'muricans say it).
  17. Roshar being a "nexus" seems to be working out for the inhabitants of its Cognitive Realm then. They also learnt of BioChromatic Awakening of Type IV from Vivenna in OB
  18. Granted. Syl is still tiny. Your bane is to witness the biology and physics defying act. I wish for internet connection manipulation powers
  19. Such a repository of knowledge does seem possible as well as narratively probable. I'm going to say yes. It'll probably be a bit more complicated setup though
  20. Hello, @ShardEye. Welcome to the 17th Shard! Hmm, you should ask questions on their respective book forums if you want more responses. Nightblood's voice is male and only a those he's "bonded" to can hear it or those he's trying to "seduce", I think.
  21. Where is Autonomy? Has she saturated Taldain itself with her Avatars then? Her star distributes her Investiture and she solidly manifests (or at least, fragments of her power do) on its planet... Where is Bavadin herself sequestered then? On her star? Or on her planet? It seems that the answer is the star (or at least mostly the star)
  22. Just that water hurts them, nothing about completely melting them. The GN is frustratingly vague on the mechanics of its magic while still teetering on the edge of a breakthrough. Also there's slightly more behavioural reason for their aggression during the specific attack situations (or unknown circumstances). Basically I didn't find out anything extra but the contradictory parts were smoothed over, that's it, sorry.
  23. Such cruelty! You monster! May I recommend giving Worm a read? It's a freely available serialised web novel. You'll love it, I think. Granted. It is alive and it wants to strangle you. It is also made of human skin and certain acquaintances of yours have gone missing recently... I wish for cloud manipulation powers
  24. And the confusion arises anew...
  25. Either could be very interesting! There's Egypt, Nubia, Mali (don't forget old Timbuktu), and the Aztecs, Mayans, Incans, and so many more with their own beliefs in magic that I would love to see with a Realmatic twist! All of these cultures use pictographic writings too! Ancient Egypt's (Ren) true name and (Sheut) shadow, and shabti and why they always portrayed people sideways..., in particular could be very interesting. Ancient Mesoamerican civilizations had ritualistic sacrifices (for strengthening the sun) and absolutely terrifying gods! (the sun bleeding cheetahs! also a giant feathery boa!) Count me in! There's so much that could be had! We can have sacrifice system magic, (like Dakhor or Hemalurgy or even Nahel Bonds and Threnody), where Cognitive Shadows are stapled together or use of spoken language in Selish magic and so much more!
