  1. Thaylen and Alethi are part of the same language family, and the Vorin language family is really close, to the point where Brandon considers three of the five main languages to just be dialects. So I feel comfortable saying that "bah" and "adoda" are both either shared or very nearly the same in both languages. Edit: replying to the other comment: That might just indicate that generally you don't hear the pure tone of a Shard without a strong enough Connection to it, which seems exactly how I would expect that to work. But point taken.
  2. That's probably helped along by the fact that our PoV characters have generally been humans, who don't hear the Rhythms in most cases. Disagree. Well, not directly, anyway. "Adoda" is a Vorin word meaning "light", which with the way the language words, is turned into "Ado" when in names (example, Ado-lin, adoda linil [or perhaps "ini" rather than "linil", it's unclear to me which the "real" form of the suffix is, -in or -lin, though khokh linil makes me lean linil]). I wouldn't be surprised if this originated from Adonalsium, but I find it more likely the usage here is meaning "light" or perhaps "Light" rather than directly meaning Adonalsium. The interpretation of the name I've been going with is using the Vorin naming rules, which take half of a word and combine that with halves of other words: Ba: "bah", "child of" Example: "Rysn bah-Vstim", as Rysn is legally considered Vstim's child Ado: "adoda", "light" Example "Adolin", "born unto light" Mish: "Mishim" the green moon perhaps Cultivation (listeners at least do associate the moons with the Shards, see "Honor's moon" for Nomon) issue with that: why isn't Nomon named "Merem", if they're named after the Shards? Perhaps refers to Culti but doesn't mean "cultivation" ram: "maram" part of Amaram's name perhaps an older version of the word "merem", "honor", following the same vowel shift we see with Kalak -> Kelek issue: "khokh linil" takes the first half of each, so under that pattern, should be "ramar", not "maram", but we have no indication of such a word. Could be a change in how the names are created over time, could indicate I'm wrong here. Under this theory, we get "child of the light (or Light?) of Cultivation and Honor", which would make sense if perhaps Ba-Ado-Mishram was a spren along the lines of what the Sibling now is. Asked Brandon about it, got this response: Due to this, I feel I'm probably somewhere along the right track, but the issues raised above with both "Mishim" and "maram" make me think I am not quite there, and my final interpretation is thus incorrect. (Credit goes partly to asmodeus and extremepayne, who partially picked the name apart for some of these words on the Discord.)
  3. Relevant, I feel:
  4. Back with another theory with probably more time put into overthinking organization and formatting than the content of the theory itself! This time, I'll be looking at our favorite little murder weapons, Nightblood and the Jezrien Stabbin' Knife, with bonus appearances from sprenblades, the Lezian Stabbin' Knife, and of course, Asterisk! (I'm sure various parts of this have been debated to death prior, but I haven't done a ton of looking around at other theories on this stuff yet. So oops if so.) As usual, this is full of everything being way over-cited even for common knowledge things, a.) to stay in the habit of citing, b.) to have exact wording handy, and c.) to try and avoid falling to commonly-held misconceptions. (0.) TL;DR Blackened wounds are an indication of something to do with the detachment of other aspects from the Physical aspect, but I am unsure what exactly distinguishes it from things that turn grey or white. Black smoke is related, though I am uncertain what it really is. (Despite the length of this post, my final conclusion is kind of wishy-washy on details, because it's all weird.) It is possible this is exclusive to Leeching (or similar but not identical mechanisms, such as raysium), but it is also possible it applies to other situations, and we just have not seen any of them yet. 5. A relevant WoB:
  6. Brandon's brought them up a few times when Weiry asks questions, and then just laughed when asked what they actually are On the recent Shardcast interview with him, he then proceeded to tease him, waving the physical copy of Dragonsteel around in front of the camera, lol.
  7. This is a theory I've thought about recently, though I don't personally think it was behind the Recreance if it's true. I'm not certain where I stand on it, at the moment. It could certainly be the "betrayal" bad enough for spren to take seven millennia to bond a singer again... This likely wouldn't work under your theory, as we have spren whose Radiant died still around and bonding (Yunfah is I think the only example we know, not sure how many other Radiants have died). Eh, idk. It affected the spren in a very specific circumstance (bonded with broken Ideals), and singers who were directly Connected to, and recieving Light and forms from, her. It's possible it had wider effects, but they might only show in a similarly complex scenario. (Of course, my guesses are often wrong, so maybe don't listen to me xD) I believe this subforum is full Cosmere spoilers?
  8. Stormfather only, but not the other two BS spren, might not need to go, though it's uncertain: (This may have been brought up earlier and I didn't see it, not sure, there's a lot of messages.)
  9. Relevant WoB with that:
  10. He had to swap the conjoiners out for ones taken from spanreeds he had stolen from the Fused first, iirc?
  11. When? I can't find mention of that, but I might just be missing it.
  12. In addition to what Kingsdaughter said, we're told by El himself why his Rhythms and title were taken in the chapter 99 epigraph.
  13. An important clarification: we have seen lesser Voidspren bond (and then whatever is up with Ulim in the flashbacks), to make Regals. We have not, however, seen a bond with sapient Voidspren, I don't think. (Once again, excluding whatever's up with Ulim in the flashbacks. I'm still not really sure what the nature of that bond is.)
  14. The Elantrians were kept in a halfway state of a transformation, which is a different sort of thing. The stones were suffering from what sounds like essentially the same thing as savantism, similar to Spook in HoA. (Which is what you described in this message.)
  15. Probably not with normal power levels, but someone with the Bands, I'd guess so, honestly.
  16. He doesn't know how to do this. Additionally, not even Hoid knows how to do so: Presumably, he's got some legit Breath on him.
  17. Additionally: Which, really, I would say is debatable. Does it not require a large amount of devotion on behalf of the priests? Probably heavily influenced by the skaze hanging around there and being important in their politics.
  18. One thing that's odd is that Nikli seems hesitant to call them fabrials: Now, this doesn't necessarily mean anything, it could just mean he doesn't know a ton about it, or is pretending not to. But could mean it's not actually a fabrial (not getting into the "well technically all magitech is fabrials" definition here).
  19. I assume he's still limited by how much he can hold before it just falls over, even if he's theoretically got the strength. Also, Feruchemical pewter grows your muscles physically, right? I could see it causing problems if you tap past a certain point.
  20. I mean, he'd have to carry a pretty massive bomb there. Agreed. I was responding to a specific point only. We don't know how many massive ships they have, do we? Could be relatively rare still. Agreed. Was just saying that they are aware of its existence, even if they have no way to get it most likely.
  21. Actually... (RoW 65) Confirmed knowledge of antimatter is what led to theorizing about anti-Light in the first place. Though that doesn't mean they're anywhere near accomplishing creating it.
  22. Not on their own, but if Taravangian is attacking Scadrial, he's got a lot more knowledge than they do due to his Ascension, and can probably point them towards it. Wouldn't be surprised if Suit was bluffing, considering what he says in the epilogue about it being less powerful than expected. They still need a way to deliver it without getting wrecked. We have no idea how accessible large amounts of ettmetal actually would be.
  23. Two things: one, ettmetal isn't nuclear: In fact, the epilogue of Bands of Mourning says: Two, Roshar is capable of mass-producing nukes via Soulcasting, so they win the big explosion fight if it comes to that.
  24. This has always been my argument against Create or Destroy as Dawnshards. Investiture/matter/energy can't be created or destroyed, so the Commands should be things that just modify existing stuff.
