I think part of the connection people drew was that Ash pretty casually talks about getting a Shardblade as if it would be a simple task for her, so perhaps Chana would be able to as well, not necessarily that it's her Honorblade? But that's certainly not hard evidence for it by any means, I don't think there's much in either direction for the theory afaik. (And iirc most of the arguments work just as well for Vedel as well, but the Chana theory caught on more due to that WoB.)

It's about overcoming your caveats about protecting people. For Kaladin, this was protecting even those he hated. For Teft, it was protecting people despite how he felt about himself and his worthiness to do so. For Lopen, it was admitting he could be hurtful and that he'd need to stop to "protect" fully. Personally, I'd expect some of the other Ideals we've seen so far to be looser than we thought as well. The fact essentially all the Windrunners currently in existence were trained directly by Kaladin or Teft (I think) probably means people will be biased towards those two's interpretations, even where others would be valid. (Granted, I'm not sure what the Fourth Ideal would broaden to. Second Ideal probably can be super vague under the category of "I will protect", though.)

Non-Published Canon Magics
LewsTherinTelescope replied to Criggleworth's topic in Sanderson Curiosities & Unpublished Works
....huh. Forgot all about you mentioning this until I opened the thread to see Dannex's message. Hmm. This has some potential implications, with things that have been revealed since then.... -
Haha fair enough. That'll definitely be interesting, yeah.

Important note: the WoB says that Division does not split atoms. We have WoBs indicating that microkinesis likely still can. Now this is a story I look forward to hearing :-) Brandon Sanderson One of the first magic systems I designed for the cosmere was based on the manipulation of sub-atomic particles, and involved the ability to look directly at atoms and interact with them. I decided to back off on this, as it was a whopper of a magic system to get right with my limited (at the time) writing experience. It was fun, though, and is still a canonical Cosmere magic. Stormlight Three Update #4 (Oct. 19, 2016) Humans fled Ashyn, another planet in the Rosharan system, not Yolen. Also relevant to that title: I've seen this pointed out before, and still not certain what I think of it, to be honest. It feels like it can't be a coincidence, but I would be very surprised if it was just straight up Stonewards. But then, y'never know, I guess.

Why Hoid didn’t bond a spren pre-recreance
LewsTherinTelescope replied to basement_boi's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It's also possible that, during the craziness of the Desolation period (even if a Desolation was not currently on), it was difficult to find a spren willing to bond without getting involved in some manner in the war effort (whether fighting for one side or another, or trying to work to establish a neutral faction), or at least there may have been steps taken to prevent any spren from bonding otherwise (some types seem to collectively decide on who will bond and who they will bond). He also might really not want to be on Roshar while Odium's forces were so active, lol. -
After certain recent WoBs, I've gone searching through the samples for things related to Tamu Keks. Here's what I've found. (Note that a couple lines are not confirmed to be Tamu Kek-related, but it feels very likely with context.) Words of Brandon: Tamu Keks can be used to communicate across realms and space, like seons. (WoB has slight RoW spoilers, not sure if I'm allowed to post it tagged in here or not, so I'll remove it if need be.) They are related to singer gemhearts in some way. They are canon in a way similar to how they are in Dragonsteel Prime. Dragonsteel Prime (public sample chapters): Tamu Keks are Sho Del bones that give off pulses of power to Jerick's magic senses. Long, thin, pointed at both ends. Seems to be one per Sho Del? Sho Del bones can be used by "Horwatchers" to perform magic. Presumably, this is referring to Tamu Keks, rather than all the bones? Sho Del can communicate with their minds, and send illusions similarly. With the reveal that Tamu Keks can be used to communicate similarly to seons, this is likely tied to their Tamu Kek?

Scadrian vs. Rosharan magic post RoW
LewsTherinTelescope replied to NameIess's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Rereading the WoB, it sounds like he might instead be saying that Wax is just really good at the steel bubble and related things as the resonance, which... alright, that's kinda lame I guess. Hopefully it's more than that.- 1816 replies

Scadrian vs. Rosharan magic post RoW
LewsTherinTelescope replied to NameIess's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Theorized but RAFOd, not confirmed. Wax's resonance is the steel bubble. (Though it's... complicated.) Brandon apparently disagrees. Which.... alright then, Brandon. I'd agree with you here, but....- 1816 replies

Things we still don't know about Rosharan magics
LewsTherinTelescope replied to Gilphon's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The weird thing is, Brandon's said the three magic systems of the Stormlight Archive are Surgebinding, Voidbinding, and fabrials, and that Voidbinding is the only major magic system we haven't seen. So the line in the AA is.... confusing. If it's a mix between Voidbinding and Surgebinding, though, I could certainly see Brandon counting it under Voidbinding if it's close enough. Hmm. -
Things we still don't know about Rosharan magics
LewsTherinTelescope replied to Gilphon's topic in Cosmere Discussion
An important note: they don't have to use amethysts. Rushu in Dawnshard explains that amethysts are traditionally used, but that rubies work just as well, and in fact the one Rysn tests uses rubies. Which makes their creation even more curious, as it means making a reverser is not just using a different gem. (I'd guess using amethysts instead is just for convenience in telling them apart from normal conjoiners, honestly.) There's also this line from the Ars Arcanum that raises a whole big mystery of its own: I think you got most other big things? Edit: ah, Frustration mentioned the other abilities already. -
Agreed, simply mean that it's potentially a route he could take if his plans turn out to fail or something. But Brandon having him bond Design in the first place seems like an odd choice, if he just ends up breaking the bond off soon after.
-
Worth noting that depending on how the BAM plot goes, deadeyes might not be a thing after Book 5. But I agree that it's not likely breaking the bond is his plan.

Question about Dragonsteel
LewsTherinTelescope replied to i’m in the details's topic in Cosmere Discussion
We have no idea, considering how hard Dragonsteel is to acquire, and while I know there's a few people who've read it on the forums, I don't believe discussion of it is allowed at this point, since it's not really very publicly available? In a few years, he'll be releasing it alongside the Words of Radiance leatherbound Kickstarter, so guess we'll see then. -
Presumably, "something will happen that is relevant" means he'll figure out a way around it (or the bond breaks, which would be really unfortunate). And if a way around the region lock is found, why not just use that instead of bonding a Voidspren?
-
He'd have to get there in the first place to bond, no? And besides, Hoid's probably got Connections to plenty of places, but as of now, he's trapped on the planet due to Design, so I doubt it'd work that way.
-
Considering all a Radiant bond seems to do in that regard is tie people down to the planet more, I don't see that helping in any way, lol.
