  1. The two are "intermingled" and "would take effort to split apart", but they are still two separate things, and from the sound of it, Sazed himself is perfectly capable of splitting the powers apart.
  2. Ruin and Preservation are separate entities still. Harmony also refers to them as two different things that he holds both of repeatedly.
  3. Leras seems to consider it binding in SH, but the exact wording probably matters. Ex. if they said "will" or "can".
  4. Pure tangent: I really like the idea of the Fused being this (even though it doesn't actually make sense timeline-wise, as the Eila Stele says Surgebinding was forbidden to them already): Explains the reason the truespren have avoided bonding singers for seven millennia (hundreds to thousands killed to make the Fused last time they tried that) and why Leshwi was so surprised they were "forgiven" Explains why the Fused have powers so similar to Radiant abilities (though idk why they'd only have one Surge) Explains the name "Fused" (they aren't exactly "fused" with much in their default state, otherwise) Explains why Odium was willing to create so many when he avoids Investing (they'd be mostly H+C Investiture at the start) Explains why Odium hasn't made more (Honor + the Radiants probably prevented many Surgebinders from joining Odium) Adds a reason to fear the Nahel bond itself without Honor's bounds even if Mishram gets freed and deadeyes are no longer a thing I also just plain think it's a cool idea
  5. "Subatomic particles", but not sure if that means protons, electrons, quarks, or what. Now this is a story I look forward to hearing :-) Brandon Sanderson One of the first magic systems I designed for the cosmere was based on the manipulation of sub-atomic particles, and involved the ability to look directly at atoms and interact with them. I decided to back off on this, as it was a whopper of a magic system to get right with my limited (at the time) writing experience. It was fun, though, and is still a canonical Cosmere magic. Stormlight Three Update #4 (Oct. 19, 2016) So uh....... yeaaaaaaaaah microkinesis is scary.
  6. My guess is it's probably some really weird perception mumbo jumbo. That, or they just have learned to control what grows much more carefully/finely than we've seen so far (which, we haven't exactly seen any masterful uses of Growth yet anyway, so who knows how much Radiants can do?). Maybe they can tell just a very specific portion of their body to grow, which lets them form the shapes.
  7. I guess, but that feels like it has to encompass more than just one single "force" if so. Fair enough. Imo, they have access to the same powerset, they just a.) have thousands of years more experience, b.) have the ability to come back to life if they die horribly when experimenting with the powers (most likely ones to need this: Deepest Ones), and c.) have the ability to hold Light indefinitely due to their gemheart (don't ask me how this works, but the book says so). Weeeeell.......
  8. I saw "Topaz" and "Frost" and reaaally wanted to know what they said to one another, lol.
  9. In that case, would there not likely be other fundamental "forces" based on other Realmatic interactions that are missing from Surgebinding, meaning Surgebinding is still not a proper set of fundamental forces for the Cosmere? (Also, I would argue that if they arise from Cognitive perception, that automatically makes them non-fundamental, as there's still something else behind them.)
  10. Now that the Dawnshard spoiler period has ended... (0.) TL;DR I believe Dawnshards grant microkinesis. Whether this is the only requirement to access it, whether this is the only way to get microkinesis, and whether this is even still canon are all questions left unaddressed by this theory, though I have my own opinions on them. (I believe the answers are "no", "probably yes", and "probably yes", respectively. The first is due to Rysn, the second is due to a line from Hoid in Dragonsteel Ch. 14, the last is part of a whole other post that I need to write after this one.) (1.) [REDACTED] (2.) Topaz and Jerick (3.) The Actual Theory (I.) References
  11. (Hierocracy was still like two Scadrian centuries before then. Around five Rosharan centuries before the present day.)
  12. I mean, it was as confirmed as it could be without a literal namedrop, I feel. A non-Rosharan Cognitive Shadow known for scars with a loose morality who has been beaten up by Hoid is pretty specific. As for this...
  13. That would make sense with how Jerick's first PoV in the samples starts, as well. So maybe 14 continues with Frost ending up going after him, then either in 14 or in the next chapter with a Jerick PoV, they meet up. Next probably comes a chapter where things start well but it gets screwed up (possibly by chance, but probably by Jerick drawing too much attention to himself, based on that line about keeping a low profile). Chapter or two of that, before a chapter of resolution. If Frost didn't meet up prior, he might instead come in here and save Jerick's skin. Then Ch. 25 starts as we see it, with a "smooth sailing besides that" summary.
  14. Yeah, I saw that. I'm not convinced, especially because flipping the raysium strip is all that's required to flip the direction of the flow, but it's certainly a possibility I don't think can be wholly dismissed as of yet.
  15. I've gone through and attempted to transcribe the page from Dragonsteel Prime that Brandon held up during the New Years live stream. The first half-page has some really hard-to-make-out parts due to lighting, which are highlighted in various colors to indicate my confidence (or lack thereof) in my transcription, but the rest isn't too bad to figure out. Color key: TL;DR: Orange text should probably not be trusted as accurate, and blue text definitely shouldn't be trusted, because it's not even really properly visible in the video. Red and pink are probably fine, though. The attached DOCX file additionally tries to replicate the layout and formatting of the original in the image best I can, but I'm not going to even attempt that in the post itself (Man, Jerick's an idiot... he didn't feel this dumb in the Bridge Four samples, but I guess that's what character growth does for you.) Dragonsteel Pages, maybe?.docx
  16. ....sorta. They take place sort of stretched between Realms.
  17. Reminds me of Timbre. Might be something sapient spren can do, somehow. Wonder why. Makes sense. The Heralds and Voidspren have been alternating between fighting each other and being imprisoned together for thousands of years. I'd expect most Voidspren to recognize the Heralds, and possibly even the Heralds to recognize most sapient Voidspren by this point. That's just called being reasonable Probably because he was the one sent to the listeners. I've had a little crack theory that the Voidspren are Ashynite in origin. Yixli looks human as well (specifically, she looks Shin). Could explain a few things (how the Ashynites accessed Surges, why the Voidspren look human, etc). Spren are weird, tbf. It might just be that. Might have Shin eyes? Szeth is probably the only person with them she's seen up until this point (maybe Nale as well, I forget whether he has Shin eyes or not). So it'd look sorta odd. Yeah, this is a really big question. How the heck are they getting spren out?? ...huh. Never even thought about that. Hmm. Syl doesn't seem to in her interlude. But bonded spren could be weird, idk. I had interpreted that just as a sort of "speak of the devil"-type saying. She was just thinking of Ulim, and then here he comes. Hmm, that's an interesting parallel. Had seen it as yet another weird spren thing, but Brandon does love his subtle connections, so could be a sign of something similar, somehow. I think it just means he likes manipulating people.
  18. There's a massive difference between hanging around a minute or two and being immortal. I'd guess Odium stuck some Investiture into them before they had time to pass on. Yeah, as mathiau said, I mean actual Heightening-type effects, like increased color perception and such. And Brandon's mentioned most orders do not get the explosion of Light when they swear Ideals, Windrunners just get it due to their closeness to Bondsmiths (which I suspect really is just referring to Adhesion).
  19. Ah, thanks! The main question for me with this is: would taking the Voidlight out cause any damage? Just shut off the abilities until she takes more in? Mess with the spren? Etc.
  20. I forget, can you put Stormlight into a gem occupied by Voidlight with the tone, or do you have to merge it to Warlight first?
  21. facepalms Yep, I'm an idiot. In that case, yeah, that could be possible, though I think you'd have to get the Stormlight into the gemheart first (and who knows what effect removing the Voidlight might have, if you go that route instead? it might be fine, it might cause problems, I'm not sure).
  22. Considering that making Warlight requires a vacuum, probably not. Edit: no it doesn't, mixing things up.
  23. I definitely disagree, personally. The amount of Investiture needed to stick around as a CS seems likely to be a lot. Radiants don't even get enough Investiture to get any noticeable sort of Heightening-like boost, which you'd expect if there were enough Investiture to make them into CS.
  24. I would say this WoB strongly implies they were created alongside the planet.
