Which Halfborn would be best at fighting Radiants?
StanLemon replied to Frustration's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I have posted before in other threads how I think that a Mistborn could take on a 5th Ideal Radiant, let alone one that could Compound something so I'll avoid that. I think though that a Feruchemist Halfborn with a decent amount of each trait saved up and with either Steel or Gold as the one they could Compound would be a nightmare for a Radiant. This however has, as all scenarios involving Feruchemy, the caveat of just how much of each trait they have stored. If it's like Sazed in Well of Ascension who had a very large stockpile of stored traits, my money would be on the Feruchemist. Just as a reminder, in Well of Ascension, he had enough speed stored to turn a months long journey into about a week and enough weight and strength and presumably health to hold of the hoard of koloss at his gate for hours. -
Did you mean external? Also, that's not all that different from Iron/Steel. It still affects the world around them but just follows the Allomancer.

He taps Connection. I'm can't remember for sure but I think it was in one of the Elendel broadsheets that are in the Alloy of Law books that reveal he's a Connector. Though I could be remembering wrong and it could be in the Pits notations

I love the way you put this. As someone who also goes through cyclical depression Kaladin is a breath of fresh air. I hope Kaladin's arc helps people come to understand the issues people have with depression. It isn't something people "just get over" and people who don't understand that get frustrated with depressed people because they don't understand it.
-
An argument could be made for the second Oath too. Remember when he chose to be jailed when Kaladin was. And he listened to Kaladin about Amaram. Maybe Edgedancers aren't the ideal Order for him but I think he has the right stuff for it

Feruchemical healing vs Stormlight healing
StanLemon replied to Narcoleptic Axolotl's question in Cosmere Q&A
I think it depends on how much Health you are drawing too. In Alloy of Law, Wayne heals the burn on his back but he has to draw on his Health and heal a little slower (but still very quickly) and it healed by first forming a scab rather than just healing away like Stormlight does- 7 replies

Allomantic Metals on Roshar (Spoilers up to Ch. 7)
StanLemon replied to Clarity-Art's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It would be a little weird for them to be using bronze if they don't already know copper though. However when Syl mentioned the effect of the void fabrial had on her my first thought was copper -
This is more or less how I see it. Shards see multiple possibilities and the likelihood of those possibilities. It's just a matter of predicting what the other Shard will do with their predictions. Far easier said than done but seems to be the case

I'd vote Kaladin, Dalinar was a beast for sure but between having a transforming Shardblade, healing, and Surges combined with his own impressive combat skills i think Kaladin would almost certainly win
-
That's not exactly accurate. They were mostly focused on Adolin and Kaladin was acting support
-
Greetings and welcome to the Shard. My favorite Sanderson characters hmm Dalinar, Spook, Steris, Wax, Lightsong

Metals are being used to affect Investiture and produce specific effect. Sounds like a metalic art to me. Though with the inclusion of gems I wouldn't call it just a metalic art just as I wouldn't call it Surgebinding. I think you are too hung up on the 1:1 Allomancy. The Pewter section talked about it enhancing the spren's trait so it was already obvious that it wasn’t a perfect recreation of Allomancy but that it held parallels to it. Reversing the polarity speaks to me of turning a radiating effect into an absorbing effect and vise versa, not switch between metals. Paralleled with Allomantic Steel and Iron pushing things away versus Pulling things to you.
-
You seem to be missing the point here. Applying Investiture to Allomantic metals apply effects similar to Allomancy. That's why people are comparing it that way. It shows that there are consistent effects with metal. I don't really see that as an outlier. It wasn't the effect I was expecting but it doesn't seem to stray from what one could expect from Iron and Steel
-
It's the same metals as in Allomancy and they follow the pushing/pulling mechanic. Additionally, until the latest chapter their effects on spren were pretty similar to the Allomantic effects. That's a lot of relation to Allomancy. In fact Tin is the only real outlier so far and even that still follows the push/pull aspect

What sacrifices would he need to make?

What everyone needs to keep in mind is Lift is our only point of reference on Edgedancers. As Szeth has proven, the Oaths of Radiants are spectrum even within their own Order. There could be any number of factors we still don't know about. If we only took Szeth's Oath on justice. It wouldn't match the fanatical obsession with law that the other Skybreaker's exhibit as justice and law aren't necessarily the same. As far as if he's remembering Maya, I'd say yes. He chose not to name her because he believed she would already have a name and that was before he knew she was a spren.

Nah, I just think they were close friends (even if they wouldn't admit it). Personally, I think people see homosexual undertones when they don't exist. I say this as someone who would very much love to have more gay characters in literature.

Where's WalDo: The Kandra Worldhopper
StanLemon replied to Kobold King's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It's not just his lack of hair, as has been stated earlier in this thread there are aspects of his personality that are suspicions. The bald look would be easier to keep up over the years better than trying to cover up your hair not ever getting any longer. But there are any number of reasons that he could not have hair, maybe it was too damaged in whatever ended up killing the real Mrall for instance. People do changes to their style, happens all the time. Would you see someone you knew suddenly not have hair and just assume they were an impostor? -
One important thing to keep in mind is that at some point the Honorspren tried to conquer all of Shadesmar. That would explain why people don't think that they can be trusted.

Prologue made me think Gavilar may not be actually dead.
StanLemon replied to Harbour's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm on the side of never having thought Jasnah was dead in the first place. The first book established that Radiants can survive and heal from things that should have killed them outright. As with Gavilar, I think the narrative would be better if he is just dead and doesn't come back. That said though, I'd love to see him come back and how jealous he would be of his brother, Navani, and Jasnah and see him go through a villainous breakdown like Amaram did. -
Divine attributes seem to have a relationship with the Oaths that Radiance's swear, so body focus might also turn out to be important
-
The Divine Attributes for Willshapers are Resolute and Builder, The Stonewards are Dependable and Resourceful. I see Resolute being the one that best goes with that Oath, though I'll admit you could make a case for Dependable. I wouldn't take the name of the Order into too much consideration when it comes to Oaths, after all Windrunner and Edgedancer aren't exactly telling of their Oaths but of their powers. The Willshapers were the order that focused on resisting tyranny and oppression and to keep pressing on. One thing would be the interpretation of the Oath itself. But if it was the Stonewards, I think something along the lines of "I will be there when others fall" would be more apt. We'll probably find out with Rhythms of War though as it will focus on Venli who is a Willshaper.
-
I was on the Coppermind today looking at the Immortal Words. There is the one we know of but not its Order for sure "I will stand when others fall" My guess is that this is that this is an Oath of the Willshapers My reasoning for this is the Oaths for each order seem to correspond with the Divine Attributes of the essence associated with their Order. For the Willshapers, one of their Attribute is Resolute. "I will stand when others fall" is an perfect example of that in my mind

But Brandon also wants the Cosmere to build up into an overarching crossover by the time of Mistborn era 4. Stormlight is the perfect place to start that and based on the books he's been building up to that. Heck, the prologue to RoW almost calls out Gavilar's attempts to Worldhop. We've even had references to Worldhopping that just a Stormlight fan would likely pick up in Oathbringer with Azure. She all but says she came to Roshar through the Cognitive from somewhere else. I simply think Brandon is building up little references until he's ready to full on bring up Worldhopping in Stormlight which I think will happen in Stormlight 5 with Gavilar's point of view in the prologue
