Why Radiants are incredibly overpowered, and Mistborn aren't.
StanLemon replied to Frustration's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Transforming people like that was mostly possible do to the Three Realms being close together, Jasnah herself confirms that. It's still a vulnerability. And once a spot is cracked it has been shown to be almost compromised Their is no evidence of this It's literally just a swig of a vile, takes seconds. Like I said unless they are facing a Skybreaker or Windrunner it's easy. Just float in the are for a second, drink, done. The half shards were only a few people. He had mobility that none of them had. He was a completely unknown problem to them. Didn't really help them They can sense the source of Investiture, so yeah Not exactly an example, nothing about that had to do with mobility The closest earthshaping abilities we've seen are making stairs, a far cry from telekinetically molding rock The Stormfather showed surprise that it happened, clearly indicating no other Bondsmith could do it. And he only recharged them by opening a Perpendicularity. His other feat of supercharging Kaladin exhausted him. Also that WoB that you are referring to can't be trusted as Brandon himself stated that he thinks he mislead people with it. -

The Coppermind has a summary on it. The eye slits for one. Also head sized stones cracked undamaged Plate with a single blow, not exactly mildly effective. And cracked Plate leaks Stormlight quickly and is far mor vulnerable to breaking. When has a Mistborn ever needed to disengage to drink a vial? Just a short amount of distance which isn't all that difficult unless they are facing a Windrunner or Skybreaker Szeth was not killing entire armies, and they knew nothing of his powers. Those eight dudes as you say were specifically trained to fight Allomancers. And as Vin and Zane proved, a Mistborn can slaughter hundreds in minutes too So? Does that allow them to make three dimensional movements? No. Can they change direction instantly including reverse? Most likely not. Bronze And? There is nothing that we've seen about Transportation that indicate quick battle manuverability So the Mistborn just waits and hides themselves Dalinar only did this in a situation that was explicitly presented as unusual. -

There are a multitude of scenes with Pewter burners surviving and keep going after what should be instant death hits. There have also been several scenes showing the weaknesses of Plate. I don't discount that on average Radiants are a lot more powerful, but you seem to have it in your head that they are virtually unstoppable. That's not the case, plenty of reasoning have been given to explain that it is not the case. With the exception of Windrunners and Skybreakers no Order of Knights has the maneuverability to match a Mistborn, Pewter gives a Mistborn near perfect dexterity, balance, and manual precision so they could hit marks that would be too hard for most normal people (such as an eye slit). Their entire fighting style is based around dodging. Bludgeoning has been shown to be very effective against Shardplate as well so if a Mistborn is able to get on a decent sized rock they could crack and break Plate with their Pewter enhanced muscles. The books go out of their way to talk about the weaknesses Plate and Blade have but you seem to try and downplay and ignore them. On top of that, Radiants burn through their store of Investiture faster than Mistborn. They use the same store of power for all of their abilities, they take up more space, the more Stormlight a Radiant sucks in the faster it leaks out. Mistborn on the other hand have a different store for each of their abilities, usually have 2-4 vials on them at any given moment, and can turn off/on their use of Investiture instantly to save metals. Yes in most fights between an equally skilled Radiant and Mistborn would likely end in the Radiant's victory, but they are nowhere near impossible for a Mistborn to defeat. -
I think the biggest thing that was supposed to make Atium and Malatium feel out of place is that they were wholly fictional metals and with the revelation that Atium isn't a natural metal but the body of a god it didn't fit with the others and Malatium has the same problem by relation.

Vin regularly mentioned how she handled blows that would shatter bones. Pewter makes you pretty durable -
I don't think Stormlight really increases strength much if at all. I think the healing nature of it simply allows them to use their maximum strength constantly without strain or worrying about tearing muscles. Maybe with an an adrenaline like kick to it.

If you want to know what the remaining not god metals do and haven't found out already, here is a list: Chromium-same as Aluminium but to other people instead of you Nicrosil-same as Duralumin but to other people instead of you Cadmium-creates a time bubble that slows time inside the bubble, the caveat is that when you first create the bubble you are at the center of it and if you leave the bubble it disappears Bendalloy-creates a time bubble that speeds time inside the bubble, same caveat as Cadmium

And if one of those Fullborn betrayed and killed him? What if Ruin managed to corrupt enough of them? He actually had a good reason (from his perspective) to become a pure authoritarian. You make far to much of an assumption that things would just work out and doesn't really help your argument. He felt he couldn't take those risks so he didn't, that doesn't make him stupid. Imagine if he did make more Fullborn, then imagine that they didn't take his warnings of Ruin seriously enough, then imagine if Ruin spent centuries corrupting them. The end state could very well have been worse than The Final Empire And yes he used Allomancy and Feruchemy to know when people are lying but to do so would require great skill to do.

The odds are nowhere near that bad. You seem to be forgetting Pewter is a thing that exists for starters. They can take a hit from Plate, sure it will likely hurt a lot but at worst a direct punch would only crack bone and then you are forgetting the manual precision Pewter gives. It would be much much easier for a Mistborn to actually hit the eye slit than you think. Now, you're right, Atium does burn quickly but with future sight they will see the opening to get in close with the dagger. And once the dagger is in there then the Mistborn would be given a huge advantage. Either the Radiant keeps it in there and loses most of his manual control over half his body and is burning through a lot of Stormlight just to stay alive, or he pulls it out and blacks out giving the Mistborn a perfect opportunity to strike again. Additionally, if the Mistborn has Chromium and the Radiant has blacked out then they just need to stick their finger through the eye slit and burn it and bam, dead Radiant. You overestimate Radiants far too much. They aren't overwhelming juggernauts that can't be beaten. In fact it flies entirely in the face of how Brandon writes his stories to assume they are. Sure Radiants are powerful yes and in most fights they would likely win but it isn't one in a million it would be more like one in 10 -

If the Mistborn is close enough to strike withe the dagger then the are already too close to the Radiant to simply strike them with the Blade. In sword form the Blade is to actually strike them and even if they shift it to a small Blade like a knife the Mistborn will have done the damage and be able to Push themselves out of the way. -
Rashek was insane, spiteful, egotistical, and a supremacist yes. Stupid he was not. He could read people well enough to always know when they were directly lying to him. Then there is the whole thing with the storage caches. His loss to Vin mostly because he was overconfident from not being truly challenged in centuries and even then it was only because of a literal deus ex machina

WoB has already said that Atium gives an advantage to the Mistborn -

I have already said AND given an example of how a strike to the head is debilitating to Radiants. A Radiant would NOT be able to keep fighting effectively with a knife to the eye -

Thing is, we still have too much we don't know about Nicrosil. But yeah, compounding speed, strength, and health would let them completely overwhelm a Radiant even if they had Plate -

@Frustration you are overestimating Radiants quite a lot. Even Kaladin, Dalinar, and Szeth would be hard pressed doing Vin's trick and Atium would not be able to just be "figured out." From the Radiant's perspective, it would simply look like the Mistborn is really really skilled in combat. As for a Fullborn, the issue with comparing them to anything is that they are two full magic systems that have a lot of synergy. The closes comparison that could be made on Roshar is if their was a Radiant with all 10 Surges. Even then, a Fullborn if fighting seriously could wipe out anything nigh instantaneously. -

They probably don't need to even use aluminum, simply burning metals would probably cancel any attempt to Soulcast them -

Personally I think the main thing Radiants get from just being infused with Stormlight alone is the enhanced healing. I think all or at least most other effects it gives stem off from that. Kaladin himself said that Stormlight doesn't greatly enhance strength but it does give great stamina. This could be explained with the strain of activity being instantly healed by Stormlight allowing the Radiant to push go beyond their normal limits. When you have boundless stamina you can run faster and harder. And in my last reread of the series there really never was a reference to it giving extra precision or dexterity. The closest I saw was Teft referring to it "perfecting" which I consider to be a bit of a stretch. -
I'm sure there is a way to use AonDor to duplicate pretty much every magic system. The issue as you raised is the problems with "coding" Aons. But considering that it's so much like programming I wonder if it's possible to set up a macro of sorts. A complex Aon setup that you could use simpler Aons to "run" multiple functions.

Personally I think the only magic system that truly could go head to head with a Radiant (excluding outliers such as Fullborn, 10th Heightening, Heralds etc.) with any reasonable chance of success would be a Feruchemist and even then only if they have a decently large amount of multiple combat useful traits stored up. I'm thinking along the lines of how much weight and strength Sazed had in WoA which was enough to last him hours of killing Koloss. -

That's still pure conjecture, we have not seen division at range in the books at all. The closest we've seen is them use it through a physical medium. True, but Soulcasting does use up a fair amount of Stormlight. For example, Jasnah destroyed a larger than average gem by turning a boulder into smoke. And unlike Allomancy, all Radiant Investiture tapping comes from the same source. So between infusing themselves, their Plate, and Surges they would have to worry about running out of Stormlight faster I don't understand your logic on this, it wouldn't have much of an impact on their Steelpushes as the coin wouldn't take long to be forced to a stop even with quicksand This is assuming that they both know about the increased senses and the weakness of overstimulation Might not be instant, but it is pretty fast. Brandon has always more or less said it only takes seconds at most True, but this would still make Soulcasting them incredibly difficult as Jasnah has had an inner monologue about how difficult it is to Soulcast a normal person. The only reason she was able to do it with ease in Oathbringer is as she herself points out, the Realms were close together and there was an absolute abundance of Stormlight available. While a Mistborn's innate Investiture might not completely negate other Surges I'm sure it would have a negative impact on some of them. I mostly agree with this. But a Mistborn with Electrum might be able to force it into a battle of attrition to see who runs out of Investiture first. Though that is pure conjecture on my part as we don't actually know enough about what Electrum can and cannot do. But with Atium and the manual precision that Pewter provides I don't think it would be overly difficult for a Mistborn to do the eye slit attack. The biggest weakness that a Radiant would have in this fight is that their magic system is much more Investiture heavy and they likely would run out of Stormlight before a Mistborn runs out of metals. So the longer a fight between a Mistborn and Radiant goes the more things would start tipping towards the Mistborn. As far as Stormlight healing goes, as we saw in Oathbringer, an attack to the head is still very much debilitating as having an arrow in the head left Shallan lost feeling in part of her body and needed help removing the arrow and pulling the arrow out caused her to black out. This goes back to the fact that Mistborn are ultimately assassins while Radiants are warriors. Now the Radiants Spren won't always be watching from every possible danger but it definitely is a boon, but then again as we've seen in Mistborn, coins can be shot a decent distance. All in all the Radiants have the overall advantage and I thing 9 out of 10 fights a skilled Radiant would beat a Mistborn but they are by no means insurmountable. -
I think it would be more Renaissance than Industrial Revolution

The thing with godmetels (and their alloys) if I remember right, you need to have a Connection to the Shard to burn them. I could be remembering this wrong but I recall there being a WoB on the matter
-
I agree that if you are trying to hide it then pretending to be a Smoker is the way to go. If you make a show that you train yourself to be able to fight then your Pewter won't seem as suspicious. Tin would be unlikely to be noticed unless you end up with an unexpected stimulus. Steel and Iron can be used covertly to an extent. You aren't likely to know that Inquisitors can pierce Copperclouds so your emotional Allomancy would be hidden all while you can still use it yourself. All while you have an excuse to keep burning Copper all the time. The biggest worry is that if too many "coincidences" happen around you then people might suspect you are using your Coppercloud to hide being a Mistborn.

There are actually 4, Atium and Malatium aren't actually part of the table. Although you could still call Sazed's statement as correct if you only count the pure metals. But to answer your question, they are Cadmium and its alloy Bendalloy, and Chromium and its alloy Nicrosil
