The evoutionary advantage of Thaylen eyebrows
I Am Witless replied to Zape's topic in Stormlight Archive
If you look at the top of your comment (hit edit) there will be bold, italics, underline, cross-out options. To the right of that is a little eye ball (Not the <>, sorry for that), which you can contain your post in. You might have to cut and paste. Good job, @Wylaguy1! -
First of all, this is a really inspirational and cool thread, and should have more comments. I don't know what my life-long ideals are, but a couple current ones are bouncing around. "I will watch my tongue, for hasty words bring hasty recompense." "I will be humble for the right reason." And the greatest, "Journey before Destination. The whole point in life isn't what our end goal is, but what we will do to get there. Will I throw myself under the bus, or will I throw someone else? What are the reasons for this bus in the first place? Why do I make the decisions I do? Is this journey a short hike with friends up a small hill where we eat snacks at the top, or like that one "death march" I went on a couple years ago where I nearly got hypothermia, frostbite, was rained on, snowed on, didn't eat breakfast because I was so anxious to get out, and cried half of the way? I say revel in the journey, because it's gonna be both at some times, and we should embrace the short climbs ( or long descents wearing summer gear and wet shoes while it snows) because they, not the destination, are what we will value the most.

@Wylaguy1 PUT IT IN SPOILER TAG HURRY That means hit the little <> brackets so that it hides parts of your post. This is not the Oathbringer Spoiler thread, and you don't want to get the banhammer. -
@Wylaguy1, Welcome to the 17th Shard, and have an upvote! I'd be careful with the cookie, if I were you. Have you read Alcatraz? Which is your favorite series? What is your social security number? How much wood can a wood-chuck chuck if a wood-chuck could chuck wood? Do you like reading Shakespeare or Homer? Which is your favorite of the three realms, or do you like how they work together as a whole? Also, have a penguin!* *Does not contain spikes. @leboralli, Welcome, and have an upvote! The war is about people offering spiked cookies vs. people offering nonspiked cookies, when you really get down to it. Role-play wars and whatnot, silly stuff. Alternatively, you could have a penguin!* *Does not contain spikes. @Ashly Vye, welcome to the shard and have an upvote! Sorry that your thread turned into a hemalurgic battleground, this happens sometimes. I hope that you enjoy your time here! They have a Wikipedia article about High Imperial? Could you link it? And have a penguin!* *Does not contain spikes. I would second what has already been said. Elantris is great, the *Original Sanderson Experience*, and unarguably less dense than Stormlight. Mistborn is really fun, and has (in my opinion) a bit more intensive world-building than Elantris does. What sort of book do you want to read next? Personal preference on my part says Alcatraz versus the Evil Librarians. Have a penguin.*

Because, to my greatest misfortune, the Kings Wit (AKA Hoid) does not live in the same world that I do. Therefore I am I am Witless, though My world is Witless might be better. And because it is self-derogatory. I'm good at that stuff. I once got into a friendly insult competition here on the Shard, and was quickly taken advantage of because "Seriously, your name says I am Witless. We don't even need to insult you because you say it right there."

There is a thread about the play-through here, which should be helpful. They might be able to answer some of your questions.

People you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley
I Am Witless replied to Voidus's topic in The Alleyverse
@Apollyon and @The Forgetful Archivist, thank you both for your *cough* clarity. I appreciate the time you took to answer, but I think I'll hold back until I find out if I get powers or if I loose my soul. Should I ever decide to consume one, I'll tag both of you so that each of you can give me a cookie and get brownie points in the Alley. I swear that pun wasn't on purpose. -
Any idea yet which words are banned? I don't have the will-power to write out all of the swear-words I know. B*stard isn't edited, as far as I know, though it would be funny for the filter to cause "You Illegitimate child, Shalladin is the best ship by far!!!!!" to pop up on a discussion forum.

Can I give myself a cookie? And I'm still wondering about the practicality of putting a three-inch spike inside of a cookie XD. Do you guys use a tack or something? Has there been any info on what sort of powers you get if you are spiked in the mouth/throat? (Because spiking does depend on location, right........?) And what would you be doing with the aforementioned spike? Will I get powers, or will you steal my Breath/soul? Just trying to consider the implications of this, since I'm on the edge of letting one of you spike me, should you give a good answer. Like, seriously. I've wanted to try this out ever since I joined up. -

What the heck. I thought that this cookie business was a joke, but apparently it is an actual freaking cult. Who came up with putting a spike inside of a cookie in the first place? It would have to be a really small spike to not be seen, and you would probably bite down on the cookie and feel it in there. I'd just spit it out....... Just wondering about the logistics of this whole mini-cult. -

I saw Black Panther last night, and I am quick to second everything that everybody else has said. It was AMAZING!!!! There were a few moments, small plot points, and unnessisary camera jumps (they escape me right now) that could have been developed further, but this is probably one of the best MCU movies they have ever churned out. The amount of non-sexualized female characters was breathtaking, there was a lot less swearing than most Marvel movies, and the Wakandan culture they created was vibrant. They also have the much-needed message of "be a responsible adult when you mess up", which is a good balance to GotG and CW. Plus, his younger sister is freaking awesome. And canonically the most intelligent person in the Marvel Universe. Conclusion: Watch. This. Movie. I say that it is the best that Marvel has put out. Oh, and Andy Serkis and Martin Freeman (Golum and Bilbo) are the two Tolkien white characters.

As someone who is waiting for their BYU acceptance letter, I'm hoping to be able to get involved with you guys (should I be accepted :/ ). A quick question though. There seems to be a lot of BYU clubs. How come there isn't an official BYU Sanderson/Cosmere club? Does it cost money or something to make an official club? Thanks!

Something that I love about Brandon is that in his stories gods are real. In a lot of books and a ton of movies atheism (which isn't a bad thing) is being overstated. The gods are false, or don't even exist. Demons and devils do exist, horrible things exist, but there aren't any gods to bring you life, light, or hope. Brandon is different. I remember being struck by reading Elantris, especially while watching Hrathen and the priest discuss their religions. That an author would be so open minded, so ready to get down and dirty about the nature of truth blew my mind. Religion is a huge part of the cosmere and it's history, and so are it's gods (the shards). In some places it isn't known that they exist, in others they are worshiped, but they are gods never the less. I think that acknowledging the fact that a god might exist, or even that a God might exist, is a powerful step forward in more intricate story-telling and worldbuilding.

I've used up almost all of my upvotes going through this thread, especially on the Les Miserables songs. My favorite mental image is now Kaladin wearing Elsa's dress and singing his heart out, looking absolutely fabulous. It is second only to the movie-worthy image of Elend beating up koloss while singing a twisted version of "Let it Go". My song suggestion, for whoever wants to use it: "Modern Major General" from Pirates of Penzance, complete with background of singing skaa/bridgemen/Returned/whatever.

Your wish has been granted, @hoiditthroughthegrapevine (won't let me tag you?????), but the laws of physics are still in place. Going too fast will end up with you splashed against the far end of the Winnebago, and when I say splashed I mean splashed. I wish that I will survive my Humanities 101 class this semester without too much mental trauma or lost sleep. -
From Terry Pratchett's Anhk-Morkpork City Watch series. Samuel Vimes: Stoneward Carrot Ironfounderson: Windrunner Angua von Ubervald: Dustbringer (Elsecaller?) Detritus: Stoneward Fred Colon: The one normal friend who gets shown up by all of their Radient friends, but who is also really awkward. Nobby Nobbs: ^^, only he tries to nick Shardblades when the owners aren't looking. It doesn't work. Cheery Littlebottom: Edgedancer Sybil Deirdre Olgivanna Ramkin-Vimes: Willshaper Havelock Vetinari: Elsecaller

I have no idea the limits of Stormlight, and some of these manipulations are unkind to the victim and very complex, but this is a really cool idea! I say yes, though I think that there are limits to how much Stormlight can change a person's physical appearance. But what those limits are, who knows? Great idea!

So, this is kind of a random and depressing question, but my best friend's grandfather is dying of ALS, and I don't know what to do. Hugs, yes, chocolate, yes, yet otherwise I'm witless. She almost seems to be blaming herself for.... something. "When you know it's the last of someone's mortal life that you will talk to them in, what do you say? When you will look back on that day and forever regret or be satisfied with what you said, what words?" How do I help her? How can I comfort her and help her feel loved? We are both Mormon, so we have the "families are eternal, and you will see them in the life to come" part down, but when death knocks, eternity seems very a long ways away. Does anyone have any advice on how to help her? I would appreciate it a lot.

@Aurora the Rioter, I agree, he probably would join the Skybreakers, and we would love watching him flying around saying "sorry" whenever he bumped into someone. Vimes though.................... Vimes in the cosmere would be frightening. If you put a band of koloss in between him Sybil w/ young Sam, bye bye koloss. I can imagine him stalking the streets of Elendel like he does Anhk-Morpork, finding ways to capture and arrest law-breaking allomancers and feruchemists. He seems like a mix of Vasher and Kaladin, with a hint of Dalinar thrown in.

[OB] Favorite Bridge Four Member?
I Am Witless replied to Devout Pathian's topic in Stormlight Archive
Rock, Renarin, and Rlain. I loved Rlain's POV chapter SOOOOO much. The awkwardness of having a Listener in Bridge Four is much more tangible from his point of view, and his whole entire character seemed to flesh out in that one little chapter.
