I don't have an English version of OB, but Notum didn't tell that killing him after 5th Ideal wouldn't work. He told, translated: Killing her would just work. But there are also other ways to "set her free" but those other ways won't work after the 5th Ideal. But killing him will work even then. Nah, that's reverse Nahel Bond for me, Aux is the knight, Sizgil is filling cracks in Aux's soul with himself. That's what I think Maya and Adolin are forming right now. Both Aux and Maya benefit from the bond more, it gives them strength of the person they are bonded with and full awareness. Moreover, as Aux proves, it can give them unique invested abilities that they can extend over the person they are bonded with. To add more, no Honorspren survived the Recreance, they shouldn't know that at all.

Who would win? Kesier or Kaladin
alder24 replied to Jace The Firesworn's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Shardplates and Shardblades are metals, god metals, they are so highly invested that it is almost impossible to push or pull them with Allomacy. Just like metalminds or spikes are not pushable as well (usually). Related to the topic, there is nothing else I can add. -
If 5th Ideal spren don't become deadeyes, then where are they during the events of SA? There should be dozens of hundreds of them there. Everyone would know what happened during Recreance as there would be spren like Aux walking and talking. As per request, no WoBs from me. Just brutal logic

(stormlight archive spoilers included!!!) Character connections
alder24 replied to Code Name's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Hey, welcome. You're not doing anything wrong. Those are not related, or rather there are not the same person nor family, but they're both members of the Ire. Riina appeared in Mistborn Secret History as a part of the Ire. Riino was an Elantrian that was put into the Shardpool by Raoden during Elantris book. He is also a member of the Ire, working on Roshar. -
I'm not sure if that's sarcasm or honesty I've done no research, I've just stumbled across those 2 when searching for quotes for some other topic. Plus I think there was a leecher mention in this topic earlier. Your point is addressed in books. Police force in the city is severely understaffed, not ready to deal with problems of the magnitude like Vanishers. As Marasi stated in AoL, there are only 600 officers in their octant, which gives you 4800 officers for a city of 5 million. In comparison, London has a population of 9 million people, and the London police force has 35000 police officers. That's just incomparable to Elendel. For another comparison, London's population in 1890 was 5.5 mil, the police force at that time had 14000 officers, almost 3.5 times more than Elendel with almost the same population. Elendel police force is stretched to its limits, severely understaffed. And then keep in mind that many of those 600 officers are working in offices, by their desk, not on the field, you also have day and night shifts. That leaves even less officers present on streets at any given moment. Elendel city is 6 km in radius (more if you count docks and area outside of the last circular road), that's the area of 113 km2, 14 km2 per octant. Each octant has hundreds of small and narrow streets, tall buildings and only 200 officers per shift to patrol all of that. That was the whole point of AoL. Police are incapable of dealing with Vanishers and other organized crime networks, that Wax can't abandon his duty and focus on his family, that the city needs him, Harmony needs him. Police have to be incapable of dealing with Metalborn criminals because of how limited in numbers they were. And there is more than one crime happening in the city at any given time, many officers are already engaged in their own pursuit, their own investigations etc. Among barely 5000 officers, there would be only a few Metalborns, dozens at best. All of them would be already assigned to other, pressing duties, or their private investigations. Elendel police has no team for dealing with Metalborn criminals, because they’d never met an organized crime network working like Vanishers or Set, with so many Metalborns among their ranks. That was THE point of the story, of how unprepare the police force was to deal with them. That's why Wax was needed, because he has irreplaceable experience of dealing with Metalborn criminals in Roughs, something that the current police force is just lacking. AoL ch 4 You have a valid point here. That can be the case or not. Crowd mentality, just control emotions of a small portion of the crowd and rest will feel it and act in a similar way. The whole city was already angry, boiling with emotions, there was very little needed to push them over, just drop a small pebble to kickstart an avalanche. SoS ch 25: But that can be true, there were only 2 people inside the carriage holding each other. The woman was confirmed to be a Soother, rioting emotions as for now was not observed. However nicrosil works like duralumin, one powerful burst of Allomancy, in this case it was felt as a constant soothing of their emotions, not a powerful burst. Those were likely just Soother and Rioter affecting only a small portion of the crowd, that would pull the rest of the mob with their emotions and actions.
-
Yes, kind of? We don't know how nicrosil works with storing, but that's one of the options. If it works like other attributes, you can store your ability there for 1h, and then tap it for 1h to be 2x as strong in that ability. In the case of Allomancy, that means you're drawing around twice as much investiture as before. Or you can tap it to get 5x strength in 1 min, but diminishing returns would make you lose much of the attribute. But this would kind of require you to store your Allomancy for half a year, than tap it for half a year 2x stronger, and you would become a savant in half a year of flaring metals instead of 1 year (like in the case of Spook), but you would still lose 1 year so you really gain just nothing. With tapping more strength, you would face diminishing returns, which would make you lose more and more attributes and you would need even more than a year of time (for storing and tapping with flaring) to become a savant. Is it clear? With this method you can at best save half of the time on burning, but that saved time would be used for storing your ability - which means you won't get savantism faster. With diminishing returns you would lose some of your attributes, so despite being even stronger in Allomancy, you have far less time of being at that strength, and you would get less investiture compared to just burning your metal with your normal strength. Without nicrosil compounding this isn’t a viable method of becoming a savant.

A steel handle is below the barrel and its fore vector would be pointing mostly upwards, providing little force in the direction of the muzzle. And what is above the Aether in the barrel? A hole for ignition where a force from a steel handle is pointing towards. It can help but that is where most of the force would be poining. Just because it can't move doesn't mean the force isn't there - the force of an iron bullet is still pushing it towards the back of the barrel, even if it doesn't move at all. Iron bullet with steel tip? Hollow? That would provide very little penetration. A simple piece of armor would stop it. Especially a tip made out of aluminum (there is steel and aluminum tip? How many tips does this bullet have?), which is 4x less dense than a steel, from which armor would be made. Crimson would likely shatter on impact with that speed, or maybe even during ignition. The problem with overly complicated bullets is that it is still a gun bullet, there is not a lot of space inside that bullet, it still needs to penetrate the target, armor or even thin pieces of wood. Less mass, which your bullet would have, means less penetration. Less density means less penetration. Less mass and less density means it's easier to deform and break on impact. While it could work against unarmored opponents, your bullet is small and overly complicated, which creates a lot of failure points. It can easily get destroyed during ignition. But putting Aethers inside bullets is a cool idea. But again, those era bullets are round, with no cartridges, no tip. Early modern period bullets. Round like cannonballs. Your design is a bit too advanced for this time period.

theory Ba-Ado-Mishram Connected Herself to the Nahel Bond on Roshar
alder24 replied to Duxredux's topic in Stormlight Archive
There were no sapient spren on Roshar pre-Shattering: But it doesn't mean that pre-BAM spren could live there in a non sapient state and later was "cultivated" and developed sapience. However Unmaking is like a death for spren, it kills them, changes them, it's very likely that most connections Unmade used to have were lost during unmaking.- 17 replies

Prediction For Stormlight 5 (Spoilers for RoW)
alder24 replied to Jace The Firesworn's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Next Nalthis book, Nightblood, will take place on Nalthis and explain why Vasher and Vivenna are on Roshar. I don't think BAM is related to Herald's madness, their mental state is because their magically extended lifespan, which every CS suffers from, most notably Fused. -

You know that Kaladin doesn't have to play a major role in the back 5 books? He can be just a background character, when new characters like Lift and other flashback characters, Oroden, Adin, or Shallan's kids will become a new focus. Just like Kelsier, Marsh and Sazed weren't major PoV in Mistborn era 2. Kaladin can become a mental health healer, advocate for unification of Singers and humans, rediscover his ties to the crown and Aesudan, discover what's up with the "son of Tanavest" title, "pick up the fallen title, the tower, the crown, and the spear", Ascend to Honor or some less important duties like training new generation of Windrunners etc. I think he can stick around for longer. But he can die as you said, it's a real possibility. -
Prediction For Stormlight 5 (Spoilers for RoW)
alder24 replied to Jace The Firesworn's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yes, it is possible, there will be more Zahel in SA5. -
That might be irritating to handle. Quite well. Vasher Awakened clothes which picked up swords and were able to fight. Ropes were said to be throwing boulders during Manywar. Vasher's coat and trousers gives him extra strength and absorbs a lot of energy when falling from a distance that shouldn't work. Vasher's strawman was able to carry metal keys. But there was a WoB, which I can't find now, which said that Awakening doesn't give any more strength or durability to the Awakened object than it already has. So I think the examples you gave aren't possible, unless you tie them with several loops or very thick rope. The rope threaded into a chain could work. Add spikes to the chain.

Prediction For Stormlight 5 (Spoilers for RoW)
alder24 replied to Jace The Firesworn's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It can be debated if he's already conscience or not. And just above the bolded part it says: "It's also, by the way, one of the secrets as to why Vasher doesn't get sick when holding Nightblood, even though he's a good person." So yes, drawing out Nightblood does make you immune to both temptation and nausea? And drawing Nightblood out makes you immune to that self-perception. Denth held Nightblood in Warbreaker and had no problems with carrying and throwing him into the sea. Denth doesn't perceive himself as a good person, he clearly told Vasher that he doesn't deserve to forget what he had done. You can resist Nightblood if you have a strong will or long history with the sword. Nightblood also didn't kill at first the person who fished him out of the sea. And it's just better to draw the blade and let him consume your soul. That what Denth would do if he was able to kill Vasher: Moreover, why would Szeth consider himself an evil person in the future? He wasn’t killing because he wanted, but because he was ordered to and was crying when doing so. He might already consider himself a bad person, as he thinks he deserves only hatred from Navani. Now he's on a good side, has a chance for redemption and is fighting for a just cause, wanting to free his people from the influence of corrupt people. For me that won't make sense. That's the point, you want to release her and never put her back in a gem. She might be able to heal the damage done by her capture. -
@Isilel There is in-text evidence of Seekers being a part of the police force, this is in Bilming, TLM ch 28. There is a Chip, a coinshot constable in SoS ch 19: he wasn't one of the contractors as those were dismissed earlier, ch 15: I'm quite sure Metalborn were present in a police force, just they didn't mention them that often, as our main heroes were needed to be useful, not police.
-
I'm not using the WoB as a direct confirmation, I'm using it to provide a source for my logical leap, because of this I think that works in that way. Ignore the hand part. "Cosmere magic in general not working well on something that identifies itself as a unit." - That's the important part. That's why I think a lurcher/coinshot can change from where the lines are coming. Identity and self-perception will be very important here. As the lines are coming from a "center of self" - if you can change your identity, or change your view on where that "center of self" lies, you can change where lines are coming from. Or start perceiving your soul and body as a collection of multiple different parts and souls working together. Perception works both ways. He could do it. The text specifically said that he hovered it between his hands. He doesn't need to extend his hands for pushes and pulls. This gives me the impression that he was doing it from his hand, as otherwise why would he extend them and hover the gun between them? TLM ch 28

I specifically was talking about studded leather armor, there is no evidence it existed. It's likely that someone in our times saw brigandine and turned it into studded leather armor. Leather armor overall was used in history, but it didn't look like depicted in movies or games. No idea, WoBs imply you can give more Breaths than needed by command and item's shape. No, that's Instinctive Awakening, Sixth Heightening, the ability to immediately understand and use basic Awakening Commands without training or practice. More difficult commands are easier for them to master and to discover. You still need the same amount of Breaths. The amount of Breaths needed is determined by the object's shape, focus (human hair) and Command with visualization. That's it. At least that’s what defines the minimum required. More complex commands require more Breaths. Color is used to fuel something and it is related to changes made on a spiritual level (in the object from which color is drawn) and visualization. Breaths are powering Awakened objects and it is likely that they're getting used up slowly by this. Every Breath has a different value, some are stronger like Vivenna's, some weaker.

If you can make sure that zephyr air won't blow away gunpowder, than yes, from Wikipedia: Decomposition of ozone into O2 can be explosive on its own.
-
That never existed. Brigandine did, which is the reason why "studded leather armor" was misinterpreted. Yes. Yes, I do understand that. You need metal to stop knifes etc as well. Yes, but cloth would have to be replaced if it was cut by normal blades. Otherwise you would have holes for Shardblade to penetrate through and cut metal and flesh. Kind of. Wood is heavy and flammable. Just dump Breaths into metal without Awakening it. Now that's how real armors were worn! I don't think there would be such a discrepancy. 1000 Breaths would likely be enough. It's the same amount of investiture, one just has a sapience and command, which allows them to cut, other however has the same amount of investiture, it should resist it well, as per WoBs it's about how invested they are.

theory Ba-Ado-Mishram Connected Herself to the Nahel Bond on Roshar
alder24 replied to Duxredux's topic in Stormlight Archive
The Nahel Bond is a connection. How does one connect themself to another connection? And what about the Sibling? They weren't connected by Nahel Bond yet were still heavily affected and wounded by Recreance. Yes, BAM formed a Nahel Bond, one to many, not one to one like in most cases. Nahel Bond is a bond between spren and a person or animal, it doesn't just give Radiant powers: He wasn't bonded with Venli, at least I don't think they formed a Nahel Bond. Most Voidspren seem to not require a Nahel Bond to remain aware in PR, like guiding Voidspren Kaladin met in OB. There were no Voidspren during the False Desolation, all of them were stuck on Braize. Mishram herself provided all Singers with forms of Power, because she bonded them all. OB ch 80 epigraph: Indirectly? Mishram connected herself to Parsh, giving them forms of power, Radiants trapped her, realizing what a terrible mistake they had made, and abandoned their oaths. Yes, but that's because Mishram connected herself to more than just Singers, she was essentially connected to Roshar, as by the Sibling's words "all who belong to Roshar were hurt". There is something missing in Spren soul, something was ripped off when Mishram was trapped. Breaking of bonds likely rips off a part of spren's soul in process, combining that with the damage done by imprisonment of Mishram it might just tip the scale leaving them mindless. But it's likely those two are very connected somehow. Elantris spoiler WoB: I think in the case of Everstorm it's permanent, it restored their Identity and Connection, healed them, and patched their souls. I think that's a very likely possibility. I don't know what to think about it. There are some good points, but I don't think Mishram formed a connection to connection, like you proposed. She did connect herself, by Nahel Bond, to Singers, she could connected herself to whole Roshar (in a similar way Shards are connected to Roshar, and their pure tones are part of it), to which everyone is connected, and her imprisonment ripped that connection away from Roshar, taking part of Rosharan spirit web with her, leaving it to a huge hole. Elantris spoiler: In a similar way, there is a massive hole in Rosharan spirit web, to which everyone is connected, and that hole created a problems for sprens, or maybe something was ripped away from their souls as well. In the case of Singers, they were directly connected to Mishram, all of them. Her capture ripped off that connection from Singers, taking away the very part of their soul responsible for forming a Nahel Bond. But there is more to it, as a Dullform is a sprenless form, Singers had to be also able to pass that down generations - this also had to rip off their Identity, preventing them from knowing what is wrong with them, taking some parts of their sDNA, which made it "genetically" transmissible. It's like their spiritual Ideal was wounded as well. Radiants breaking the bond with their spren did similar damage to them, it ripped of part of their spirit web, and left a hole in there. Why? I don't know. Mishram is to blame. I don't know how that could work. I have no brain for that. I'm writing this whole stormingly long post for the second time, because I clicked ctrl+z at the very end of the last attempt and it deleted everything...- 17 replies

Prediction For Stormlight 5 (Spoilers for RoW)
alder24 replied to Jace The Firesworn's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That's only 10 days. I don't think he is that close to it. But during the Contest I can swear it for sure, which would be a good time for it, as something new and unpredictable could arise forcing Dalinar to change his opinion and take a next step. Probably something on a big scale, She connected herself to Roshar, just like Shards are connected, she became an important part of Roshar, which allowed her to Connect to all Singers. But everyone was also connected to her as well, and when she was imprisoned, that part of connection was ripped away from all, some like spren were more affected, Singers because they were directly connected to her were affected the most. Hard to say how it was. -
I disagree, Wayne smashing into the ground like a tomato, thiat time not leaving a bloody strein behind, is the most epic falling moment so far.

Do Knights Radiant get all 10 Surges??
alder24 replied to in Truth, watcher of tv's topic in Stormlight Archive
Those are spren, pulled into PR, they're not of Radiant, nor Radiant manipulates them this way, they follow his intent. They turn their cognitive form into a physical form. It's the nature of Stormlight. Not just any investiture, as in most cases other types of investiture are more limited (you could still make it work by unkeying it), but Mistborn spoilers: Rysn might not heal yet (she didn't suffer any injury, and her perception prevents her from healing her legs), but Hoid does heal because of Dawnshard he used to hold. But the nature of Stormlight (and other Rosharan lights) is becuase of interaction of Shards and Roshar, which formed magic systems there. That they don't cut by Division. Division burns, not turns objects into investiture. I do understand it as you said it, I just think those things exist outside of Surges, that's because of the nature of Cosmere, not Surges. It's not because of Surgebinding, it's because of natural laws that exist outside of Surgebinding. Those might seem similar, and one can make a reasonable argument that Surges are the reason behind it, but Surges just work under the same natural laws as all those things that you mentioned, especially spren. That's why they work similar, that's why you can "classify" some effects under those Surges. Elantris spoilers: -
Do Knights Radiant get all 10 Surges??
alder24 replied to in Truth, watcher of tv's topic in Stormlight Archive
There are no stupid questions (at least some people says so, I don't believe them, but this one isn't a stupid question). It's easy to miss. I missed it too, before searching for it a few days ago. It's in ch 3 of Dawnshard, I don't have an English version to quote it. In Rysn interlude in WoR he was a women, in Dawnshard he is a man, and was said to change his appearance to match his gender after bonding a spren and becoming a Dustbringer. Check his coppermind page for more sources: https://coppermind.net/wiki/Ral-na -
Kind of, If I remember correctly. You need to rewrite your soul to "I've been burning metal for years it warped my soul", and you need to provide enough investiture, not just the amount needed for a soul, not just for expanded savant soul, but you need comparable amounts of investiture to all those years of burning metal, during which investiture was passing through your soul. You need to bath your soul with years worth of investiture during stamping. But at that point how would your real soul be affected? Would your real soul be turned into a Savant soul as well? Or at least partially as most of the damage was done to the fake soul, but some investiture was affecting your soul as well.
