  1. Finally your reaction to those chapters, I've been waiting for that I think chapter 5 and its mood is necessary to hit you positively with chapter 6. It wouldn't work that well without the 5th one. Khem khem, what about "I will protect even those I hate"? (Roshone still deserved it) It's a high time for Kaladin to stop hiding. Kaladin reuniting with his parents was just perfect. Laral made a great impression on me, she was a real leader in the town and she showed how much she changed and developed through the years. But also Roshone changed too, a bit and for better. It was really good to see Kaladin putting into perspective their past conflict and focusing together on the future. Storms, you made me reread those chapters again. They're one of my favorites from OB.
  2. I've never noticed that. Yes, I knew about the connection stuff and Syl etc, but I've never paid enough attention to realize she painted Ash and Yalb as they were at that moment because of Connection. That's crazy and that's what I love about Brandon's book - you can read them many times and still pick up new things in every reread.
  3. Metalmind is the necessary component of Feruchemy, metalminds store only Feruchemical attributes. It's not a matter of interpretation. At this point you purposely misinterpret not only WoB but metalminds as well. There is no wiggle room, Brandon said the word "metalmind". If he said "device" or "thing" or even "metal, anything other than "metalmind" you would have a wiggle room to interpret it differently. But he clearly said metalmind, which excludes Primar Cubes, because they're not a metalmind. SA: SA: They didn't, BoM ch 3: They know it stores "fortune" or "identity" but none of them knows what it means. Yes, he left a detailed explanation about physical and cognitive metals. But if he did that, why is it so hard to believe that he left a full Feruchemical table? Saying what Nicrosil does - storing investiture? There are more than 80 tomes of Words of Founding, and do you really think Sazed just didn't include a full table of Allomancy/Feruchemy, while he did include plans of Elendel city or hints of electricity or flying? Just writing "aluminum stores identity" is enough of a hint for Terris to know what it does in theory, but not understand it at all - as the quote proves. Why would he say that flying or electricity is possible but completely omit what half of metals do in Feruchemy? Don't you think that's illogical? Not really, because those Ferrings are not only extremely rare, but for most of the time they didn't have metals available as there was no proper metallurgical techniques yet: Decades, not 350 years. And just because you know something stores identity, it doesn't mean you know what you can do with it or how to use it. Just because you can store senses in a tinmind, it doesn't mean you'll instinctively know you can store A-bronze sensing too. Edit: Spiritual attributes are more or less useless on their own. What can you do with no identity? What can you do with stored F-nicrosil? With connections you can do something, but people lack understanding of connection to know how to start. And whatever Fortune does. Scadians don't have any understanding of realmatic theory to work with those attributes. They don't know what connections are, what identity is (as Wax proved in that very chapter), what investiture is, not to mention Fortune. Just because they know Aluminum stores Fortune, it doesn't mean they will advance understanding of it enough to make a breakthrough in science. Intent. Intent matters. You need to know what to store to store it. And you literally used an irrefutable example proving my concept as a counter argument - Unsealed Metalminds - Wax not knowing a coin was a medallion and not even feeling investiture available to him. Marasi, Wayne and Wax (and Steris or a Set member taking it out of her purse) not knowing a spearhead is the Bands, not feeling investiture stored in there. I wouldn't call it useless - limitation. Brandon's magic systems are all about limitations. And if one of them is like that, then that makes it a perfect limitation. And Fullminds would still have a use, as you would only need to figure out what can be stored and try it, without thinking of needing another metal. It limits, preventing it from getting overpowered but leaves a good tool for discovery. It can be walked around - Shards would know what can be stored there after some time and some experimenting, people Ascending to the Well or Shards too. And if that was again like you said, I'm quite sure that a Feruchemical effect of Malatium would be noticeable - after all both gold and electrum have a very noticeable effect, Atium-electrum alloy too, Malatium would have likely a noticeable effect too. Which would make Sazed not being able to tell what he is storring very illogical. The second step in the scientific method is "make a guess", the third is "test it". Which fits perfectly to my idea, as now you have to guess what can be stored, test it and see if it's true if you could store it there. Question and guess: can I store height in Atium-pewter alloy? Test: I will try storing my height there. Result: I can store it! It works. Conclusion: you can store height in Atium-pewter alloy. Your idea is the opposite. First you test, then you guess what it was. That is the opposite of the scientific method. And what proof do we have? I see none. Literally the WoB above that one: "Are there a limited amount of atium and lerasium alloys for each metal?" - "Yeah, way more than sixteen." and that was just about 2 god metal alloys.
  4. Doesn't she? Just because she doesn't express her feelings doesn't mean she doesn't feel them. There were multiple moments in books where Jasnah was expressive - when Shallan went to CR in WoK, before her assassination attempt on the boat in WoR, her relationship with Hoid. She just expresses her emotions differently. She controls her emotions but she still feels them, hatred included. And because of her control over emotions, she would be perfect for controlling Odium. Moreover, she might consider Odium as Odium, not Passion, which would make it even less about emotions and more about hatred only. Mistborn spoilers: Edit: I've found WoBs about Thunderclast's origin, they're inspired by Chasmfiend, but not related to them. They're related to Voidbringers. So I don't think they have Chasmfiend's soul in them.
  5. I think that's not possible. It's likely that Larkin's ability to leech investiture is either the result of their bond with spren or the result of their sDNA. Breaths won't replicate that. Just like using Mistborn body won't give Lifeless Allomancy: Maybe that would work if you could use Stormlight/Lifelight for Awakening - that might produce sufficient connection to allow for such ability. However for now that's now possible.
  6. Ok, I'm up to the challenge. On average, an apple weighs between 150 g and 250 g, 200 g is in the middle. That's 5 apples per 1 kg. The price of 1 kg (2 lb.) of apples in Los Angeles, California is $4.80. If a basket contains 1 kg of apples, then in pre SoS price around 5$ would be worth 0.5 boxing (50 clips). 3 kg in a basket - 15$ is 0.5 boxing etc. Which I think is too much. But math would make a price per 1kg of apple very nice - 1 apple is worth 1$ - 10 clips - so here you go. Interestingly I've found some document from 1910 which specifies a price for 12 apples as 5$ but I'm not sure if I'm reading it correctly - https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/item/184058#page/3/mode/1up In that case 1 apple is worth 4 clips and that's ~0.42$.
  7. I think a regular Bloodmaker would need months worth of health to heal a Shardblade wound. Wayne needed like 2 weeks of health for 3 or 4 bullet wounds. In the case of Miles, the WoB was specifically about removing his invested powers and healing them back repeatedly, which would require huge amounts of health. Maybe a regular Bloodmaker would be able to heal back his power (Allomancy) if he had years worth of health, because in this case it's not a simple cut or hole in his soul, that's something more. Likely because a girl's soul was already gone, like Wyndle told Lift (I think he told her it's too late). I think only a Herald bonded to Oathpact would be able to use his Honorblade to its true potential. Even Kalak in the prelude said "These Blades were weapons of power beyond even Shardblades. These were unique. Precious." and I doubt it's only about Oaths and Stormlight. Heralds can bond them in a way nobody else can, more "deeply". Plus Szeth needed 10 heartbeats to summon his Honorblade, which shouldn't matter as that's only needed for dead Shardblades. That's because of his perception. It makes me think that Shins just don't know all of the possibilities Honorblades give. Like I said, I like this explanation a lot. That's a good idea. That could be an interesting way of progressing medallion tech.
  8. I like this explanation, it's logical and fits all known information. That's perfect. Wayne still can heal a Shardblade wounds: Retconned but it's still canon. Regrowth fabrial can still heal a death by a Shardblade: But I agree with you that medallions should work like Honorblades with healing - it's logical as similarities between them are pointed out by Brandon. However Brandon said sometimes "as it's understood by characters" meaning Honorblades true power might not have been reached yet, and it could allow for healing souls in proper circumstances. So maybe more advancements in medallion tech would overcome that limitation too? The problem with that is that Feruchemy was ONLY showing up among Terris, and I highly doubt Rashek moved a few Terrisan there as well. Not to mention that Ferrings are the result of Allomantic genes breaking Feruchemical genes, without strong Allomancy, there should be no Ferrings at all. What frustrated me the most is that Ranette went on the honeymoon there and we got NOTHING on that at all. She didn't even describe anything Malwish there...
  9. Brilliant Carapace might be tricky, Shardblade doesn't consider that as a living part, it cuts right through it physically. But in Awakening it should be considered as a living thing. I don't see a reason why not. It's mostly about command and visualization. That is what makes 1 Breath Lifeless possible, a proper command. It should apply to a chasmfiend. Yes, that's true. But I think you could substitute that with Breaths, just like Breaths in Kalad's Phantoms created joints in stone, you should be able to give it additional Breaths with command just to uphold the body against its weight. So while you technically have a 1 Breath Lifeless, you have to put hundreds more on top of that one to prevent Chasmfiend from collapsing under its own weight. Nightmaws should be. But I wonder if their cognitive ability isn't also the result of parasites. I think Aviars would lose their bond and parasite - they're dead now, parasites need a living host. That would mean no ability. I wonder if you could make Kandra into a Lifeless and how much spikes would interfere with that. At the very least making Mistwraith into Lifeless should be possible, which would give you a lot of interesting options - Mistwraith are mentally blocked people, they should have brain advanced enough to understand complex commands and you could make and train them to be like Kandra - taking a form of the body they consume.
  10. Possibly, or with apples, SoS ch 6: But we don't even know how much boxings are in a note. There are 100 clips in a boxing however. So if someone knows the price of apples in 1910 then you can figure it out
  11. I don't think alloying Harmonium would split it as when heating it up to 3000 degree C doesn't do that. It might be a possibility that some metals just can't be alloyed, like mercury can't be alloyed with iron or platinum. Harmonium might be such weird metal, but I doubt it. But we already know that other god metals are Allomantically valid, which brings the number of all metals to about 50 if you count all current 16 god metals. They can be made into alloys with base 16 and with each other, like the often asked question about Lerasium Atium alloy. And if Atium Lerasium can be alloyed together, why can't that new alloy be alloyed with base 16 metal, making another set of alloys? And the first WoB said "way more than 16" and in my opinion 50 isn't that much more than 16.
  12. One Honorspren said that there were 2000 Honorspren bonded during Recreance, all deadeye now. I think spren before 3rd Ideal would turn into deadeye in CR, never manifesting in PR as a Shardblade.
  13. Reread the books and check for yourself Sword fights are relatively fast, some can end in just a few seconds. With Nightblood it is even faster as there isn't a blade capable of blocking him. Vaher had hundreds of Breaths to begin with when he drew out Nightblood but it's hard to say how many, Vivenna had at least 600 but she used some to Awaken clothes, ropes and Tonk's shirt. Vasher had at least 1000 from Vahr and 50 of his own. He used most of his Breaths to Awaken pieces of clothes and ropes before sneaking into the palace, - but when he got captured he said he used all his Breaths during fight with mercenaries, and had none left. After Vivenna had freed Vasher, she retook most of her Breaths and gave them to Vasher, so he should have around 600 Breaths or less (not including Breaths from Tonk's shirt and 2 ropes). The Breaths Nightblood consumed were all Vivenne's, most of her Breaths. After this they both collected remaining Breaths and managed to have at least 200 Breaths each, not enough for 3rd Heightening (600). In took Vasher minutes to destroy 50 Lifeless: Then he ran, jumped a few times with rope, ran again and that likely took a few minutes as well. I would say the whole sequence took less than 5 minutes, and in that time Nightblood consumed almost all Breaths he had and he was left with barely 50 Breaths. Keep in mind, Nightblood consumes exponentially more investiture the longer he is drown. Which makes any predictions impossible to make. But there is a point when he would get full and fall in a food coma state when you would only need very little investiture, but that’s a lot of investiture, Vessel worth or Perpendicularity worth of investiture. Now that I think of it, math barely checks out, as if all of Vivenne's Breaths were consumed by Nightblood, except for ones in 2 ropes and Tonk's shirt (which likely wasn't retrieved), they should have at the end more than 1050 Breaths. If Vahr had more than 1000 Breaths, and 2 ropes hold more Breaths than mere dozens, they should have enough for 3rd Heightening each. Of course this can be explained that they couldn't find all of Vasher's clothes, or Vahr had exactly 1000 Breaths. Weird but it could have happened. In Oathbringer Szeth killed one person without a fight, which would take seconds, and it drained most of the spheres he had. So yeah, that's it. I don't want to go into OB as it's late at night and you're lucky that was a Warbreaker question. The answer is minutes, for 200 Breaths it would be less than how long it took Vasher to destroy all 50 Lifeless (as he consumed half of what Vivenna had given him).
  14. How do you know that? And how many worlds have you visited?
  15. Aluminum hats for example. On Lumar both silver and aluminum are lined on the objects because it has a field of effect. There was a WoB on that, I don't know if it is this WoB or different: I don't understand how you want to use Sunlight spores in your design. A ball of wax, inside is water and Sunlight spores? Ball melts and water evaporates before you even put it in a gun. So your whole bullet would shatter on ignition. That's not good. The metal tip can go in any direction after leaving the muzzle. I'm blind, but I don't see spore powder anywhere (P). And that means that R is a part of the bullet, not cartridges, it would likely shatter on ignition. Bullets are small. very small. There isn't much space there to fit all of this. Spores alone are quite big, if Tress was able to pick up individual pieces. I've never heard of that. There are bullets with round or flat tips but I've never heard of double tipped bullets. And I don't remember them from Era 2. None of the hazekiller rounds has a double tip. Look at Coppermind https://coppermind.net/wiki/Hazekiller Hand cannon? That's a late medieval gun. Your gun doesn't have any ignition mechanism tbf, not to mention outside one. That's a big leap. Yeah, cartridges are similar yet it took like 500 years to develop. I wonder why (rhetorical, I know why). In the early modern period they were using paper cartridges, first separate from bullets, later together.
  16. Aluminum has an area of effect, it would interfere with most of the gun. I don't think so. Put something wet in a spore charge and it would instantly suck out the water and explode. Sunlight spores inside the charge would burn away the rest of the spores. Not to mention thin Roselite might crack under the temperature. That won't work. Plus bullets might be tightly fit, especially a cartridge that was pushed back into a barrel by explosion, you won't make it fall out of the barrel just by tilting the gun. In real guns bullets have to be pushed far back with a "stick". But I'm not really sure how tightly fit those things are - there should be as much as possible, but that’s my view on this. Your design doesn't fit early modern period guns. That's a modern pistol, not early modern. Not to mention bullets. Your bullet looks like a single piece of Roselite, which would make separation of cartridges impossible. Not to mention growich a Roselit in that shape would be also almost impossible. Aethers decay, they would fall apart, and that bullet would disintegrate after some time (per TLM and WoB about water cycle on Lumar). And the spore charge in the bullet is the cartridge charge pushing the bullet out of the barrel, or a bullet part, meant to grow inside people's body? Your double tip is non aerodynamic, it would be tremendously slowed down by air. Not to mention the center of mass of the bullet which is very tip heavy, it would make the bullet roll and fall to the ground faster. It would also strike the target at weird angle. The shape of the bullet would make little penetration. Your tip is like a coin, which is bad shape for a bullet. And it has a hole in the middle. For reference, that's the gun Crow is using:
  17. I think that's too big. Those are even above 2m long. It's a sword that destroys evil, he isn't evil himself. He's a good boy opposing evil. Chaotic good of course. Very chaotic.
  18. Harmonium? No. Primar cubes - yes, you can theoretically charge them with Surgebinding. But Harmonium isn't Pirmar Cubes, those have literally a switch, there is more to Primar Cubes than just Harmonium. But you don't get it back. It creates an area of effect. Put A-steel in a Primar Cube and it pushes you back. Feruchemy affects a Malwish ship, not you. You don't get that back, that's not possible for you. That's not like a metalmind. Medallions are at least filled by Firemothers, and you can tap them - that's like metalminds with both storing and tapping. And they store static investiture, not kinetic. Primar Cubes aren't metalminds. Primar Cubes are tech. And you can't charge them with more than one power - that's not a metalmind that stores anything. To claim that Primar Cubes are those metalminds, and that was what Brandon was talking about, would mean that he purposefully misinterpreted the question and answered it knowing others would think about literal metalmind - Brandon doesn't do that. I'm not arguing about it again, just go look for topics where I recently did (was it with you?), there I've listed my opinion on that, providing WoBs. I'm not arguing about it again as both interpretations are as likely to be true. Found it, just read it here, but I'm not arguing about it again, I won't respond: Hard to say. I personally think Connection is required to burn a Shardblade, because they are an alloy, pure Tanavestium should be burnable by Mistborn. But I'm not sure if everybody should be able to burn god metals, I think that's just Lerasium, and that wasn't even its primary effect. But Lerasium is said to form a connection, so alloying it with a Shardblade should allow Mistborn to burn it as now he has connection to it. Or it would grant him Surgebinding as an Alloy of Lerasium and Bavadinium gives Sand Mastery (per WoB). But that would still form a connection to Honor/Cultivation and he should be able to burn a Shardblade afterwards. If he was able to store something in it, he would know what it is. He didn't succeed. Intent. He has to know what to store. He can't just store something, not knowing what it is. Unlike in Allomancy, there isn't any clear indication that you can store something in a metal - you need to know what you want to store to store it. Without that, you just can't. No idea. Maybe. But good luck figuring out what can be stored than in that short timeframe and while freezing. Fabrials do the same. Awakened objects too. Soulstamps too. That's Brandon, he knows how many metals there are, Peter likely did the math for him. You underestimate Brandon's attention to details and math:
  19. No, however he has values for it, but we just don't know them.
  20. Spren are manifestations of specific laws and parts of nature, they were likely already connected to the very Surges they were later granting to their knights. Or because spren copied Honorblades, their strong self-perception connected them to those Surges. Or Ishar changed that and bound them to give only those Surges. Or because the magic system isn't created, but manifests itself from interactions between Shards and the planet, Surgebinding was already present on Roshar, just nobody knew about this, and True Spren were already aligned with those Surges, but they weren't aware of that. That's why when Honor gave Heralds their Honorblades, those were already giving only 2 Surges, because that was the nature of Surgebinding, independent from Honor himself. They are biased: But it's possible that Odium doesn't have Adhesion. But Yelig-Nar is said to grant all 10 Surges. So maybe for Unmade it's different, maybe because they were Unmade they have some fragments of Honor's investiture in them, as they were made out of it before being Unmade. Maybe that's why some of them can access connections. Or she had found a way to naturally form a connection to all on Roshar, just like the Thrill developed a strong Connection to Dalinar. It’s really hard to say how she did it. Unlikely, because Stormfather would be Deadeye. He should have been affected as well. He isn't the source of the Tone, but is the source of the Light, just like the Sibling is the source of her Light. He is mostly or fully from Honor's investiture. Also no Honorspren would be made as they are primarily from Honor's investiture. I doubt it. As I said, and as the epigraph said, BAM granted them forms of powers, they couldn't have come from Voidspren as those were imprisoned on Braize - they couldn't have left and returned to Roshar because Taln was preventing them from doing that. Those forms of powers must have come just from BAM and no other spren. That's why I think it happened the moment she was imprisoned, all Parsh lost their forms and minds at the same time. Dullform is different than Slaveform - Slaveform is Parshmen, it's the form they were left with after the Recreance. Dullform is what Listeners at that time had, similar but different. Dullform is the form with no spren, spren giving them no form, or bonded with a wrong spren. Listeners have access to both Dullform and Mateform - and if what you suggest was true, then they would be also affected by BAM imprisonment - they weren't. That's because they weren't connected to her, she didn't give them forms of power, those were given to every other Singer through connection, but Listeners weren't connected to her. Oh, nobody has that many references in their theory as in that one Yes. She didn't connect herself to the Nahel Bond per se, but rather to the nature of it? To the part of the spirit web responsible for that? Something close to it. No no, I think you're on the right track. The issue is with Nahel Bond, Mishram did something with that on a large scale. But it's really hard to pinpoint it exactly as there is little detailed information about it. After all this is one of the biggest mysteries of SA from the very beginning.
  21. Yes, but what attribute is all atributes? I doubt a single god metal would be able to store everything. That's not attribute. Or maybe something more is needed? Maybe some god metals can store their own attribute and with specific intent you would be able to store everything as well? But I doubt there is any god metal that would allow you to store everything without having a single attribute like other metals. That's a very convoluted reasoning around the WoB. It says metalmind - it isn't a metalmind if nobody can tap it. So yes, that's a literal, actual metalmind, as Brandon said "a metalmind that can store anything". And Primar Cubes don't store static investiture, like all metalminds, they aren't metalminds. Fabrials count for you then? There is a power going into a metal in fabrials and then the effect is coming out. No because it's 16 distinguishable pieces. If you touch it in a wrong place you won't be able to tap all 16 metals at once. But you don't know you can store the power of an unexisting god metal, because you don't know it's possible. You would have to experiment a lot to figure out what other things can be stored in a fullmind. I don't agree. Don't go there with me. I'm not discussing this again. The what? No Atium-electrum alloy is burnable only by Atium-electrum Mistings. It's an alloy, nobody can just burn Atium out of the alloy. Just like nobody can burn out iron out of steel. There are conflicting WoBs on that matter. One said anybody should be able to burn god metals, another said connection to that type of investiture is required, or that Honorblades/Shardblade aren't easily burnable by Mistborn etc. There are likely some limitations on that. Feruchemist were able to use Atium-electrum alloy, so yes, they can use pure god metals for sure. Harmony told them, BoM ch 4: Sazed had never figured out what Malatium does in Era 1. Can you? You would be sweating a bit just by touching it. I doubt that's possible. It's very risky even if possible. Just by knowing you can lose your hand you'll be stressing out more and sweating more. Yes, and Feruchemy is a combination of those to, a balance system - that's why you can make a Feruchemist by using god metals of Scadrial, that's why I think by using god metals of Scadrial (without using Harmonium) you could make a fullmind. Thank you. I still think Harmonium might be used in some way to achieve the same result, but that's not Primar Cubes. Possible, but I find it weird as the WoB said anything. Yes, a new set of powers for each alloy in every metallic art - and this alloy can be alloyed with all 16 based alloys to create new effects for all metalic arts etc etc. Each alloy changes everything.
  22. Oh right, that's obvious. Well, he did Cultivate north and they ended up developing very slowly. And Harmony changed only Spook into Mistborn, because Kel asked him for it, and he changed him into weak Mistborn, not Lerasium powered one. I think that says a lot that Harmony didn't want to make those powers more common.
  23. From Coppermind: Based on Vasher and Vivenna's statements, Nightblood could be around fifty-three all the way to sixty inches (135 cm - 152 cm) long overall, with a blade length somewhere between forty-three to forty-six inches. Info from google/wiki. A long sword is on average 100–140 cm (39–55 in) (bigger than average, which would be fitted for larger Returned), great swords are between 160 cm and 180 cm. But it's more or less like Claymore (120–140 cm (47–55 in)), and Brandon himself said it's the closest to Claymore: For Returned he would be like a long sword, for normal humans like a Claymore.
  24. I think it's possible that Malwish are already using Hemalurgy like that, there is this WoB which said that creating medallions using Hemalurgy is much easier than without it (but you can still make them without Hemalurgy). If not (as therunner pointed out Malwish worship Metalborns), the Basin could do that to quickly close the gap in tech.
  25. Yes, I do agree, mostly. That's also what I've been thinking. Existence of Firemothers suggests they can be used to both store and fill, but this option may be locked for some reason, or maybe only Ferrings can both store and tap, or there is another machine that is used for that, which can't be used on a field. Hard to say but I do agree medallions are far more limited than we like to think. Or maybe the main limitation is how rare are Metalborns in Malwish? Their genes are very weak, only as good as the Pre-Rashek population had, and those were transported there from regions other than Terris, which would weaken Feruchemical genes even more among their population. This might have been the reason why there are no soldiers using medallions, because they have to wait literally hundreds of years for a single Steelrunner (which is rare even in the Basin) to be born. They might get lucky with F-brass and other metals, or those were introduced to them by Kelsier's partner, as Kelsier had to have a Full Feruchemist (or 16 Ferrings or Marsh could help with few of those powers) working with him to create the Bands.
