  1. I wasn't thinking of literally breaking "your Breath to mine" command or the other, rather that the mechanism of taking control over Joe's unkeyed Breaths might be similar to command breaking, just like Unmaking is similar to it. Therefore being skillful in command breaking would be required.
  2. I really have to think a lot to find a reason why this won't be possible. Breaths in objects are likely in a static investiture state, in a person that's innate investiture, part of their soul. While they aren't keyed they are still part of them, and I think only the other part of the soul can command them like that. I mean Intent needs to come from the person holding those Breaths - it's the rule of Awakening, you can't force Breaths out of somebody, they have to be given to you. Now if both Bob and Joe were blanked, this might allow Bob to steal Joe's Breaths. Being blanked and using blanked investiture is easier. Might, I don't know. You make my brain hurt. Another option is that when Joe is blanked, this might change into a Command breaking situation, where Bob has to Break command of Joe's Breaths to command them to become his. But that would only be because they are in a person, not in an object.
  3. This happened before or during the Last Desolation, not during the False one. Coppermind: Other than that it's an interesting read. But I don't think traveling in an aluminum box is an answer for CS (definitely not for Thaidakar, it would hurt his pride, which would be hilarious). This doesn't sever connections as you noticed and once on another planet and out of the box, the connection to their native planet will be reestablished, which will most likely yeet them back to the home, which won't be nice. I doubt this is the answer, you need to either blank that connection before leaving your planet, or reconnect yourself to a new planet. Being like a "Voidmother" would be useful but there are other, potentially easier options. Mistborn spoilers: I think the part about trapping Heralds soul in gemstones was because they might not have any physical form while being on Braize, only Cognitive and Spiritual (Braize is a barren wasteland, with almost no atmosphere - Khriss said nothing lives on its surface, only Splinters are there). That would require Gavilar to trap them in a gemstone to transport them. But but but - this is what killed Jezrien. You can't do that with CS as that's removing their connections that allows them to maintain their CS status. RoW ch 92: Now for Singers and their spren in a gemstone, this might be interesting. Spren being in a gemstone might remove their connection to Roshar, thus allowing Singers to just leave Roshar with their spren unlike Radiants. No aluminum box needed. Just leave. Normal worldhopping. But Stormlight in a gemstone doesn't lose its connection, so maybe they can't just leave.
  4. Listeners' songs said it happened before the Last Desolation and it has to be true, as the Shattered Plains was the region where the Last Legion fought and abandoned their forms during or before the Last Desolation. By this time the Shattered Plains would already exist and be left alone. This area definitely isn't the Shattered Plains, but I disagree with you about it being Shinovar. The description of this area is full of stones and rock, not soil and grass. This isn't Shinovar. Shins were present on that battlefield, they were walking on the stone. It was a Shin that talked in the voice of Honor and Dalinar was in the body of a Shin. I suspect that this rule was a more recent thing, developed after Shin invasions where they invaded Roshar with Honorblades (we don't know when it was), but definitely before the Recreance. Or this rule was lifted during Desolations.
  5. Yes, it might work. You will take their static and kinetic investiture (like Stormlight or Breaths) but I don't know if that would stick to you. Like if you stab a Mistborn burning pewter, it will take his pewter investiture but I don't know if that will give you pewter powers as there might be a conflict of identities - that investiture isn't keyed to you it will just vanished from your body over time. With Stormlight it might be easier.
  6. Usually yes, but per WoB just being sufficiently invested in the moment of death is enough to make one into a CS. That's what I was thinking about - how much investiture is enough?
  7. They are invested... You detect investiture. That's how the era 4 device works. He gave them to noble houses. That was his control. Ska Mistborn had to steal it from them. Hundreds? Not likely. Dozens yes. Send it back to the manufacturer who has the means to open the box without triggering water. At best you need just enough water for the explosion to destroy Harmonium, without triggering all of Harmonium to react with water. But don't focus too much on that idea. This comparison makes no sense. Of course there will be black market. That's why you have police and harsh penalties for possessing such devices from a black market. You've vastly overestimated the implications of it. There wouldn't be people escalating a typical bar fight into a nuclear wasteland just because. If they have Harmonium but can't in any way access Trellium, they can't have H-T bomb. By having a pilot licence... What are you talking about? They fully closed any access to Harmonium for the Basin. Somehow Malwish already proved that you can do what I say, you can force control of that level to prevent unwanted people from getting their hands on harmonium. This literally proves my point. We have no idea how common Harmonium is among Malwish. We've only seen military use of Harmonium - airships and primar cubes. Medallions don't need Harmonium. If that's the case Malwish themself have a very restricted access to Harmonium, people there just don't have it unless we're talking about special branches of the government or some industries, like transportation and military. That's it. That's the control I'm talking about. We don't know any of that. Most likely she made use of Autonomy's investiture already present in the system without directly investing it more, just like she did in the First of the Sun system and Patji. This doesn't have to manifest any physical investiture as that's only a little amount of it. She can if she wants, but she has control over it in this case. I think there were some clues that the Set brough investiture from other world, but can't find it in TLM. You're wrong. People in power know. Kelsier wants to share Allomancy, not give everyone nukes... He didn't even share his information about Set's actions with Harmony or the government, which could prevent this whole situation from ever happening. Kel inaction caused the most amount of harm. Kel and Ghostbloods don't share information with people outside their organization. Military secrets... It's about national security. It already works like that. That's not how Kel acts, It's the very opposite. He won't share anything. And we know it! Right. I forgot about that one. I also believe Discordium will be stable. I agree. And the idea of reverse Primer Cubes sounds fun.
  8. You want me to believe that they made a fabrial on Roshar for measuring investiture that isn't capable of reliably measuring investiture of most commonly present invested people on Roshar? Really? Why do that then? Moreover we know Radiants and Mistborn are similarly invested. If they both were as invested as Elantrians, which is above even that of Returned, they should be so invested that they could just become a CS on their own. That's clearly not the case as Kel proved. Moreover they don't show any visible effects of highly invested beings like Returned do. They're less invested than Returned. Again, we don't know what Yuki-Hijo do. And you know this from where? They were trapped for 1700 years getting invested more and more. We don't know their true nature. Also I'm wrong about Shades. They are comparable to Returned or True Spren. They are highly invested, which is weird as Threnodites usually aren't that highly invested. There is a mechanism that invests people after their death. That's an interesting way to describe it. Make sense. Especially because Honor supplied them directly with Stormlight. It looks like Taln is the most invested Herald of them all, and might be strongly connected to remains of Honor, which puts him as a candidate for its Vessel. I agree holding Stormlight would invest them more but not that much. At least not on average. Maybe something like Kaladin infusing himself with Stormlight from royal gem reserves when deflecting stone during the Kholinar siege might get close to Returned. That made me think now if a power of Dalinar's perpendicularity could make somebody into CS? Would that be enough?
  9. I didn't really pay any attention to it. Now hearing from other people about it I didn't change my mind at all. I'm very skeptical about the possibility of aliens visiting Earth and flying around here. Nothing I've heard about this hearing gives me any evidence supporting this possibility. I've even learned that there was a radar reflector balloon patented in 1945 that looks the same as the UAP described by the pilot during the near-collision event. I will remain skeptical and wait for real evidence.
  10. It couldn't handle Yumi's investiture. ch 34: They aren't connected to spirits on a regular basis, they draw them in and give them part of their innate investiture to manifest spirits in PR. Or they are connected to numerous spirits at the same time. I don't think they have Nahel Bond like Radiants have. They have something different. Design hasn't mentioned any connections to spren or spirits in her - she could clearly see her connections to people. And the recent WoB stated that Yumi is even more invested than what traditionally Yuki-Hijo used to be. Something in her being trapped and trained for millenia made her more invested somehow.
  11. FTL is era 4. It won't happen in era 3. Era 3 might end with unification of Scadrial against a common enemy, which is Autonomy (or north or south winning a global war, or whatever), thus granting the Basin Harmonium. Possibly with a first space flight but likely within the Scadrial system only, to hint of incoming FTL. Or Malwish will develop FTL with the help of Ghostbloods. Either way that's how Era 3 will end, not start. And with futuristic technologies present in Era 4, like Aviar detectors, making detectors of Trellium/Harmonium and controlling their distribution and use with them will be very easy for an Era 4 government. If the Basin gets their hands on Harmonium, it will be very easy for them to monopolize it and control its use. Just seal the mines off and force federal ownership over them. Just like what Rashek did with Atium. Set up a little piece in every device that has Harmonium to break and spill water on Harmonium when someone tries to open it. More sane approach: Register every device and force a special repair license. Limit the amount of devices with Harmonium every person can possess. Even force control of them. Force people to report a theft of such a device. Just make a proper regulations and it will give some level of control and safety, It kind of is in a way I want it to happen. Not everybody can be a pilot, not everybody can fix planes, not everybody can get into a cockpit, not every plane can take off or fly as it wants. There are very strict rules and regulations regarding every aspect of the air industry to make sure it's as safe as possible. That’s how you control it. In that case she won't give Trellium to Scadrial at all. We still don't know how it got there in the first place - if it's through perpendicularities, she might not have a choice in era 3 with Harmony/Ghostbloods having greater presence in CR and control over perpendicularities. I highly doubt it just manifested on Scadrial. I expect that not every person is a master of metallurgy able to recognize an alien metal never before seen on Scadrial. Who do you think those people are? They've found a fancy metal which they didn't recognize and was either given for analysis to the lab, or immediately confiscated by higher ups who work with Kandra and Harmony, preventing the knowledge of it from spreading. Not to mention there would be a very limited number of people possessing Trellium spikes at all. Common people would simply have no idea that Trellium exist. Firstly there are likely laws preventing leaking government secrets. Secondly most wouldn't be aware too. Thirdly, leaks might happen, yes, but will people believe it, remember it, or take notice is a different thing. Lastly, it would be mostly in a general statement that there is an alien new metal used by the Set, without going into details. It's really hard to say what people on high positions know about Trellium, but it isn't common knowledge, that's for sure.
  12. That can't be right. Don't you think that a device made on Roshar, called Fabrial, for measuring investment of soula, should be capable of measuring investment of Radiants? Yoki-Hijo seems to be unique for some reason. Their bond might be similar to Nahel Bond but far more greater than that of Roshar - or that's something very different, not bond related. Or it's just Yumi who is unique because Spirits messed with her soul. That's how I would rank them (without them holding any additional static investiture): Shades Mistings/Ferrings/Regals? Allomancers/Feruchemists/Radiants/Sand Masters (possibly here or below?) Aetherbound True Spren ? Returned Fused Heralds Elantrians/Yumi Awakeners are on a sliding scale. Depending on the amount of Breaths they have they can be more as invested as Mistings (1 Breath) or even far more invested than Elantrains (Susebron). On Average Awakeners wouldn't be able to gather so many Breaths to be of the 5th Heightening, more like 2nd-3rd.
  13. It might be featured, but that doesn't mean it will be common. Yes, that's why Malwish will be restricting Basin's access to Harmonium as much as possible, because they don't want to lose the advantage. You think Malwish will just give them Harmonium so we can have era 3 as we want it? The conflict between Malwish and the Basin will likely be a big part of era 3, it won't get resolved until the last book. That's very, very, very likely. I had the same thought while writing this post. You don't know in what form Harmony is mined. It can be some ore, it can be some alloy - you don't know it. For what Wax did - no, for what Set did - very likely yes. Bigger bombs might require you to coordinate your Trellium spikes so you could have harmonium being split in multiple places at once. You're off by 1 ms and your bomb will be much weaker as Trellium gets annihilated before it can be inserted. That’s how I imagine the Set’s bomb. Because the government can take control over methods of acquiring both Harmonium and Trellium and prevent them from getting in public hands. For now people don't even know what was on that Set's ship, or that Wayne had Lerasium which made him into Mistborn. They don't even know that Trellium exists or that Autonomy was interfering. I don't think that will change that soon.
  14. It doesn't mean that everyone suddenly will have access to Trellium, more that there will be another secret organization like Set, likely this time Autonomy wouldn't want to just destroy Scadrial and will change her goals, trying to turn them against Harmony/Discord. Ok, plutonium then. Yeah, but drugs can be made everywhere, Harmonium and Trellium only in a few places. Cut off those places and you have control.
  15. Because he has been living for more than 300 years and isn't old or dead? And not everything is suppressed:
  16. Harmonium more common? Not really, only Malwish has access to it as far as we know, and they don't want to share it with the Basin. Trellium source is unknown - it could be just brought through CR, for now it's all gone. Both Harmonium and Trellium therefore could be very easily sanctioned and controlled by the state at least in the north. In the same way you can't legally just own uranium without a proper license (as far as I know). I wouldn't say that's easy to make. Not to mention 3000 degrees needed to start the reaction - for now it's impossible almost for anybody, in the future a bit more accessible. However a random guy buying a furnace capable of achieving such temperatures will definitely draw some attention. Those questions seem weird to me. I cannot not compare it to gun laws in Europe (no discussion on that please) - while there are definitely a lot of illegal gun owners, especially in the crime sector - normally people just don't fight and escalate to shooting. Except for organized crime, people just won’t walk around with a pocket Trellium bomb and start blasting people out of existence after a bar disagreement. Expect some small scale terrorist attacks with the use of Trellium, but as long as both Trellium and Harmonium is sanctioned, those can be tracked and prevented from ever happening. Even if some small gangs could make one bomb, then I bet they wouldn’t want to because that would definitely attract the attention of the government and they would all get jailed before they could make one. I expect the era 3 cold war to be balanced by the Basin having a few Trellium bombs from Set's leftovers (with developed missile systems), while the Malwish would have many weaker Harmonium bombs (with advanced airships).
  17. Scouring of Aimia or something really boring - somebody made a new, cool calendar and that's year 0. It's very likely that other nations like Azir, Iri or Shinovar have their own calendar and their own year 0, different from Vorin's one. Most likely it was some kind of Schism that created the Thaylen section of Vorinism or something that gave fundations to what's later became Hierocracy.
  18. I've just finished Yumi and my mind is blown. This certainly is my favorite secret project so far and one of the best in Cosmere. It was really great. The story was focused only on Yumi and Nikaro and their relationship and I love every page of it. Their romance is the best of all of Brandon's books. I think we need more stories like this, focused heavily on characters, on a much smaller scale without Shards clashing or whole worlds at stakes. The worldbuilding of this world (two worlds, but really one) was inspiring and very interesting, big Threnody vibes. I'm also glad that Hoid was in the background (literally just standing there) in this story compared to Tress, more of him (mostly in the form of interruptions to say things outside of the story or about himself) would just distract from Yumi and Nikaro and damage the story. Design on the other hand was fantastic, I love her even more. And the graphics were great too, I caught myself staring at some images for minutes, they were so beautiful. And I'm so glad that Yumi didn't stay dead. That wouldn't make sense - she was more invested than Returned or Elantrian, she could resist the pull into the Beyond if she wanted - her death would ruin her character arc as it would mean she would have chosen her duty over herself. And they definitely deserve to finally touch each other. The Sanderlanche got confusing really fast. It went from 0 to 100. Even with Hoid's explanation I was barely following. If Awakening wasn't scary before with Nightblood, now it is and it can consume the entire planet's population just like that. While I'm still not sure if that machine was Awakened with Breaths (were those scientists worldhoppers?), it was called Awakened so it definitely can be done with Breaths. You don't need sentient Nightblood, just some machine for stacking stones is enough to end a world. That's really scary. And a Fain planet full of Sho Del. That was a plot twist. Huge, I started screaming in the middle of the night! And then nothing more about it! Brandon, you can't do that without giving us anything more about their first contact! Just give us anything more! I hope we will get more of them in the future. Not only Sho Del appeared but also the Sleepless! Masaka is the 60th horde. That's a lot of Sleepless compared to Roshar (I doubt they're from Roshar). And she had learnt how to make her face from one hordeling/piece. This will make recognising Sleepless so much harder and even distinguishing them between Kandra and Spren will be harder as well. But that's good. We already know how to recognise them, this will make it challenging in the future. But this machine still confuses me. How it didn't consume everybody on the planet? Why did those nomads or future Kilahitans survive? Why was Hoid affected by it and they weren't'??? Why didn't this machine just use the shroud to power itself when Yumi took away all spirits? Why didn't the spirit run out of investiture as the machine was feeding on it? They should eventually lose it all and stop existing. This time the audience and timeline is pretty obvious. Rosharans are mentioned almost directly, and it's in the space era. There is even a nearby Scadrial space station, which is interesting. What are they doing there? But I also wonder, Hoid mentioned a lot of Earthly objects without explanation.T his either means that Roshar magi-tech will develop similar common devices to Scadrial's or the trade between Scadrial and Roshar will grow and those will be brought on Roshar this way (which means there aren't that hostile as I thought). Also I've almost forgotten - Hoid mentioned, when introducing Design, that "It wasn’t an actual body—we all kind of learned our lesson on that" - that's clearly referencing Ishar's experiments. Either you can't grant a spren their physical body this way, it it will end even worse than what we've seen so far. This is concerning. I want to watch anime now.
  19. That's from RoW ch 80. They were on Braize, mentally at least.
  20. But Shards aren't gods... Adonalsium wasn't the God. That's the whole point of this disagreement. That's what Jasnah thinks. Accepting their existence is nothing more than accepting the existence of moons, sun or tides. This is just natural, not divine. Shards aren't gods. Are you a Moon's god worshiper just because you believe the Moon exists?
  21. That's what suppressing a Divine Breath does. I'm pretty sure you can, and WoB is talking about that. It said "you can split other Breaths too and give just part of them without giving them all". If you can invest a Divine Breath deep within yourself, you can do it with regular Breaths too.
  22. You don't need that. You can suppress regular Breaths and their aura just like you can suppress a Divine Breath.
  23. That's a good idea. Pushing it even further, what about a basic steam engine? Heat up a sealed cauldron with a pipe loop exiting it, with a turbine on the end of it attached to a shaft, the loop would return to the cauldron in a pool of water to cool it down and there you go. I don't know how steam engines actually work, I would try doing something like that, without pistons etc. First implementations of a steam engine was done as early as during Roman times, you certainly can play with it and create something that will work. If you take your time to do research you could actually create a proper steam engine and revolutionize manufacturing 1000 years earlier.
  24. Really hard to say. I think it can work both ways. However Breaths despite being more in Physical Realm are still innate investiture, attached to a soul. That makes me lean in direction that they aren't reduced by physical cuts but Shardblades can do that somehow. Nicrosil in Feruchemy works differently than Nicrosil in Hemalurgy. F-nicrosil stores the ability to use invested arts (this includes Divine Breath but Breaths are not confirmed yet). We don't know what compounding F-nicrosil does. It likely makes it stronger, as compounding Allomancy might make you stronger (in TFE TLR steel push got weaker after Vin removed his metalminds, could he have nicrosil in them and was compounding Allomancy?), and not have two Allomantic powers of the same metal (which doesn't even make sense). If that's the case compounding Divine Breath would most likely make it bigger. You can't Awaken with Divine Breath, they are turned into kinetic investiture once they leave your body, they can't be used for Awakening.
  25. Endowment - gives me tons of Breaths and Returned heritage (like Vivenna)! I don't care about Fullborns, OP Surgebinders or others if I can do fun Awakening and create whatever I can imagine! And make my own friends
