I'm not so sure about aluminum. Aluminum has a field effect and it might disrupt any Awakened objects. I don't want it to act like that, because I have some cool ideas with Aluminum and Awakening but what can be done. yup There is one, Vivenna's blade. That sounds cool and possible. I think it's sentience or some level of self-awareness. Even Honorblades which aren't sentient are self-aware and have their own identity
-
I think it can be done. Even without fearing of making sentient rope - Vasher awakened 1000 stone statues with lifeless bones in them with no sentience granted to a stone (Breaths from stone were recovered). I'm always imagining an Awakened rope, just a normal rope, that is later twisted around a barb wire or a chain and thrown together. It is like a bone to which muscles of rope attach. You can't cut a chain.

Oh my, this pressure of expectations is killing me. Do not exaggerate with this genius, genius and I don't get along. But it is done. Behold, planet Vantlar and its moon Ortagon, a system that Valor once inhabited: And of course, self-nitpicking: That's it. What do you think?

He's hiding it from us! Just listen to that evil laugh: He even RAFO'd if we've seen Liss anywhere else: And that all Heralds were either seen or mentioned before OB:

I believe Vedel is Liss, the assassin Jasnah met in WoR prologue. From healing to killing.

I think Cabine is likely Taln, who is Dependable, but it could also be Jezrien, who is a Protecting and Leading, which are very non-childlike attributes. Eshu is either Paliah or Battar. Knowledge and Wisdom respectively. Not sure about Dilid. Dilid is basically Sisyphus - doing something with no real progress. Ash fits this, as she tries to destroy all images of herself and make people stop worshiping her - but this clearly doesn't work. No idea who's Eshu, name similar to Ishi - and it might be Ishar, claiming to be Almighty and Adonalsium reborn, Heralds of Heralds, bearing the Oathpact alone - and sending Nale to kill all Radiants to prevent a new Desolation. And always saying the opposite of what's true - Dalinar being already the Champion of Odium and him being the Champion of Honor (close to the truth but not real truth yet or anymore), Dalinar corrupting spren or making false Radiants etc. He's talking like he knows everything to those that know real truth. RoW ch 111: Kalak acted like a child during Adolin's trial, fits more to Cabine than Jez who's just drunk. RoW ch 87 No, but there is a relationship between Heralds and ten fools:

What Connection? The bond between Aviar and a person is a Connection. And Aviars are bonded with parasites acquired from fruits, that's another Connection. What Connection could they increase? Aviars seem to have a more passive effect, not something a person can manipulate or change. Kokerlii always conceals people's mental activity and Sak always shows a deadly future (as long as they are with Dusk). Dusk had no saying in regards to their powers. So you would have to make that Connection increase passive, always working. It might work in a way that you get Connection increased to everything and everyone in a certain area around you. Would it be useful? Maybe. Or maybe more useful, an Aviar that Connects you to the land you're in, allowing you to speak the native language fluently. That's useful and certainly possible.

I wish to have dreams like this Great minds think alike. I have those @Underwater_Worldhopper I literally need to think of just 2 more abilities for the magic system and it will be finally done. If I can't figure it out, I leave it blank. 5 full pages of text with 1.5 pages of self-nitpicking...

20 Shardblades and Shardplates. Quite a lot. A single Shardbearer can slaughter hundreds of Parshendi. And Alethi had a numerical and logistical advantage. At first they fought as a united army as well, chrysalis changed anything. And Singers fight in pairs, Alethi in proper war formations and cavalry, far better than fighting in pairs. Just like regular steel armor - weak points under joints, neck, head etc. Spears are perfect for finding those weak points. Or hammers breaking their bones. I can't see a way to do it. Only by attacking chrysalis which can be broken with hammers. They would. They're bigger and likely have a thicker chitin than Singers. Something more like a Chull. They are rocks.

You can mention someone by typing "@" and their name - a list will appear below from which you can choose the person you want to mention. Example @Hare_Mettle Other tips for you: No. There were no humans on Roshar before the arrival of Ashynites. I don't think a spren can become a human just like that - look at Ishar's experiments, those spren looks like their Cognitive form. The only thing that can be done to spren is to somehow transfer them into PR from CR (like Ishar is doing), without killing them. But because we know from Ishar's experiments that spren simply cannot live physically like humans - even Stormfather said this is abomination, spren aren't like humans and can't exist and die like them in PR. Oathpact was made long before spren started to bond with humans and give them Surgebinding abilities. We know that it was a surprise even to Honor when Spren started to mimic Honorblades and grant surges to regular people by bonding with them. This was after Oathpact and Honorblades were made. Ishar later bound Surgebinding into Knights Radiants, with Oaths and restrictions. He doesn't want to make them human. He is simply bringing their cognitive body into the Physical Realm. All True Spren have humanoid bodies in CR, even Cryptics. But they aren't humans and can't be humans - they can however bring their body into PR, even if they die shortly after. There were some theories that Siah Aimian might be Honorspren brought to PR without dying, and they were able to breed with humans to create Natanatan people. While I find it unlikely, this is still possible, as proven by Ishar. Yes, I know it's a theory. I'm saying there are so many difficulties with a spren becoming a literal human that it's probably impossible. Their identity is tied to their spren nature and to Shards of Honor and Cultivation. They have their own Connection, their spirit web is different from humans. And because they are Splinters, they are Cognitive in nature, far more invested than a human. Because of that I don't think it's possible, not in a resonable way and for sure it didn't happened in the past. It might happened in the future, a Shard can likely make it happen. With each subsequent bond a spren is pulled more into PR, their mind gets more clear and can feel and experience like humans can. I don't feel that we need spren to become literal humans to make it meaningful. They are both unique with their bonds. Lift was changed by Cultivation herself, and because of that spren bond with here. Renarin is bonded with Enlighten spren, who was touched by Sja-Anat, Unmade of Odium. Glys is invested with Odium's investiture. As far as Shallan is concerned she is becoming someone else when she is Veil or Radiant. It makes then sesne why they are talking about turning into someone else. Metaphor referring to Syl's nature as a spren and her responsibility as a Radiant's spren? And what about Veil's mind?

Yes, kind of. It's a dangerous place, and I want magic to be not so friendly. But I think I'm focusing too much on natural dangers of this place, rather than invested dangers - which is my nature, looking at planets and saying "that's unrealistic" so I want to make it reasonably realistic far too much. You can make a planet with lower density than Earth's, which is 5.5 g/cm3, like Mars which is 4 g/cm3, or the Moon which is 3.3 g/cm3, but below 3 g/cm3 you have icy planets/moons, around 1 or less than 1 g/cm3 you have gas giants. So you can't just make as low gravity as you want, like a planet made out of Lithium rather than iron would likely work when it was being created as lithium would float toward the surface or something. At least in real life. But with the thickness of the atmosphere you can go wild - Saturn's moon Titan has a denser atmosphere, despite lower gravity. And Venus has so much thicker atmosphere despite the same gravity as on Earth. But all of this doesn't matter when Shards make their own planets. Make sense, as you said the investiture can't exist in static form, only kinetic, so this might help if it wants to have intent. Beautiful.

Maybe, but I'm stuck on magic. I'm not as good with creating a magic system as I’m with using some existing magic. But the world keeps growing, I'm coming up with new ideas and I'm adding them to this world. I've even made a basic map for it! But now I know how hard it is to make a cool world that is realistic and checks out with physics. Touche. I had to go with the rule of cool, but I'm nitpicking myself now After reading your Whimsy world - yeah, I can't do a world so detailed and amazing as yours. Brain is mean, and wants us to suffer sleepless nights. I hope magic is the answer to unrealistically low density I was literally thinking of doing it as well to my world But that was a problem too far for it. The problem with large stars is that they are often the most luminous star types existing, they live shortly and are very violent. But if Taldain can exist being tidally locked with one of the most luminous types of star, this planet, which the name I can't pronounce, will be fine. This, this is simply art. Like all of this is so great, so detailed, that I can't stop thinking this already IS in Cosmere as a canon. It fits so well. The life, the humanoid species, the investiture and Whimsy is so well-done and so fascinating. And the Songfettering sounds great too with the simplicity being just the best part of it. You even made a naming convention which for me is my arch-nemesis. What can be achieved with Songfettering? Are you attracting the specific kinetic investiture fitting your intent or all investiture which changes its "kinetic intent" to fit your intent and command? If the investiture got put in an object, can you Soulcast it? Change its form from solid stone into liquid? Change its cohesion or tension?

Stormfather has full control over Highstorms. He can send them whenever he wants, control their strength (they're always vicious when facing Kaladin) or cause winds to guide somebody in the storm. He can send visions to people he chooses and connects to, he can slow down time and take people into the realm in between. He does it all as a spren, just like Unmades. The Sibling can control all of the Tower, every fabrial within, they can sense and see through the Tower's wall and communicate with people. No, she's to Cultivation's spren. Is it? There is nothing to support this. Contraurary, Re-Shephir wanted to replace Pattern's place and bond with Shallan. To add more, in the back cover of WoR it was said that a bond with spren can widen cracks in the soul. One Unmade - Yelig-Nar consumes the soul of a person he's bonded with, Like Nightblood does. We have no other example. Thrill and Ashertmarn manipulate emotions of poeple, Moelach grants future visions (related to SR) and is possibly related to madness. Re-Shephir creates Midnight Essence, Sja-Anat enlights other spren, both do not interact with poeple on spiritual level. That's a good idea. It fits and resolves the whole betrayal issue.
-
Shards influence people through emotional Allomancy, it works in the same way, but Shardic influence is much more powerful for a simple copper cloud to stop it. We know it doesn't work as Inquisitors fall under Ruin's control, and Vin was constantly harassed by Ruin. Unmades are very highly invested, so they likely wouldn't be blocked by a coppercloud. But a coppercloud might weaken their influence over you, possibly it could work even better with mindless Unmades like Nergaoul or Ashertmarn. Bond is spiritual, not Cognitive. But it would affect how spren acts, whatever it means: Other things a Smoker can do is to make it harder for a Singer to attune to Rhythms or hide from secretspren: I personally think a Coppercloud will hide you from mind hunting animals on the First of the Sun, and possibly even from Shades.
-
He is supposed to take away emotions, especially pain, not increase them. But because we know nothing, everything is possible. 9 of them had broken and allowed Fused to Return starting a Desolation. Only Taln has never broken. Yes, that's true. Unless Odium somehow keeps Herald's "mind" and uses it when creating Unmade - they aren't made only out of Herald's mind but its a combination of a spren and Herald's mind. After all unmaking steals mind of a spren (or something like that, Sja-Anat said so), and Odium needs to replace it somehow. But that's just speculations.
-
Possible but that's not that different from what Stormfather, The Sibling or especially Nightwatcher can do. And we know that Voidbinding was looked in the past, but barely explored. I think most likely they were Unmade from some bigger spren but not on the level of Bondsmith spren, like Cusicesh (maybe some spren like what Stormfather use to be before becoming Honor's CS), Re-Shephir might be related to Aether or an Aetherbound as she uses Midnight Essence. At least those are my guesses. Or maybe what Jezrien has said was true, they're made out of Herald's broken mind during torture. There are 9 of them and only 9 Heralds have broken. I hope we got some clues in KoWT. No idea. Maybe he influenced the entire army invading Aimia to make them emotionless? Or the opposite, he influenced the defenders to make them indifferent in the face of destruction. We have no information about Scouring of Aimia, it's hard to say anything about it.

What do I need to know about White Sand to understand the Cosmere
alder24 replied to Munazir's question in Cosmere Q&A
OB ch 67: -
Yes, I have my own theory of what would happen, similarly to yours, humanity will lose, but Taravangian will cause flooding across Roshar, destroying Kharbranth and thus breaking his word with Odium, wounding himself. Coalition will manage to restore their ground by either releasing BAM or someone Ascending to Honor at the very end of KoWT. If you're interested I've wrote about it here, but if you want to disscuss it, don't revive that thread please: There is more about Moelach, OB ch 88: He's definitely related to mind and madness. All three are. We saw Re-Shephir effecting Urithiru, making everything feel wrong. Dai-Gonarthis takes pain away per one of Death Rattles (Moash might be under his influence). Dawnshards involved in Splintering of Honor? Scouring of Aimia happened after Recreance, and Honor's death. If Odium had a Dawnshard, he would already have won. I don't think Odium ever had a Dawnshard. Unmades were tactically used during the Kholinar siege. Thrill was also used tactically in several places. Sja-Anat will likely play a big role in KoWT as she might defect from Odium. There are or were Unmades in Shinovar, where Kaladin and Szeth are going, and Unmade in Horneater's Peaks where the novel will take place. Unmades are already set up to play a big role in the close future. Yes: It might be the case. Glys is the one managing the visions Renarin is receiving, that would make sense if Voidbinding is about spren using Surges.

Oathbringer too. But in RoW I think White Sand references were explained, so if @Munazir doesn't read the novel, he won't be confused or feel that he's missing something. -

I don't think there is much you need to know before reading White Sand. This novel isn't very connected with the rest of Cosmere, except for Khriss. I think you can jump into it even as your entry point into Cosmere and you won't lose anything. Edit: The another connection from the White Sand novel is that you'll be able to recognize the White Sand substance if it appear in different books. -
You think Cultivation's words about Taravangian bearing the Shard of Odium with Honor were literal? Well I'm already on board with Honor and Odium combining, I've always thought it will be Dalinar as he is both of Honor and Odium (called by Cultivation child of Honor, child of Odium), and has lifelong connections to both. However I thought this would happen later, in the second part of SA, with Dalinar or Kaladin's Ascension to Honor happening in SA 5. But you've made a great point, now I think Taravangian is a valid candidate to bear Odium with Honor literally. RoW ch 113: You might be right. Odium by nature is selfish, Rayse was selfish too, together they fear any change. Taravangian is nothing but selfless. He sacrifices everything for a slim chance of saving even a fraction of Roshar. He might be able to overcome the selfish nature of Odium and force his will on it, seeing use in becoming a Dual Shard. Mistborn spoiler WoB:

This is great. Amazing work. We've known since OB that Unmades correspond to a specific gemstone but actually doing the work to figure it out is so much better. I have just two small points: you've missed Dai-Gonarthis (there is almost nothing known about him) and: I'm not sure about this one. While BAM is unique among Unmades, a Highprice of some sort, able to connect to the whole nation of Singers, we have a WoB that the order of Bondsmith didn't have a corresponding Unmade. Also Thrill was sealed by a Bondsmith too (personal connection matters). We know BAM was a leader of Odium's forces during Desolations, which fits to Jezrien who was a king. Her ability to connect to Singers might resemble Windrunners ability to have more squires than other orders. I've missed that one. Why not Edgedancers? She is a spren of Cultivation and she cultivate people. Also there is this WoB, which you might find useful:
-
Responding to the whole thing. I don't think all of Unmades were True Spren. This is because Unmades are the most invested entities on Roshar, second behind Bondsmith's spren. Far greater than True Spren. That would require a lot of investiture to be pushed into a True Spren to reach that level of investment (Unmades in CR are huge). But you've found interesting connections between true spren and unmades. However, Re-shephir uses Midnight Essence, which is something known in Cosmere and related to Aethers - if she was a True Spren unmade why would she be/have Midnight Essence? Also you said Odium pulled a spren into Physical Realm and Unmade them - Unmades don't exist just in Physical Realm, they are so invested that they exist in both at the same time, seeing into both PR and CR. Disagree, WoK, ch 52, Feverstone keep vision: we have a person with red hair (Horneather), most didn't attract attention of Dalinar, so they looked mostly like Alethi (or some other race), and the first Radiant who abandoned their Oaths wes pale with blond hair, possibly Shin. Another Radiant had tanned skin and dark hair, possibly Alethi, and finally Dalinar remarked that Radiants were of all nationalities. Keep in mind, because of Oathgates and Vorin right to free travel, people would simply travel or fight in different regions together with others. One of the races, Iriali, didn't come from Ashyn like other humans, but later from a different place. Nale and Taln have different appearances, Nale and Taln look like Makabaki or Azish. Jez and Kalak look like Alethi. Chana in the picture is pale and has red hair, Vedel and Pailiah are also pale with dark hair, Shalash is dark with dark hair and no epicanthic folds, and Ishar looks like Shin. Already among Heralds you have several races. This means that modern Rosharan races date back to Ashyn like Heralds do. Those races were on Roshar since humans arrived there. Where did you get that from? I think this is impossible. Spren doesn't have a body in PR, they have their own identity and own connections, and their nature of Splinters is far different than human nature. You suggest that the imprisonment of BAM happened after spren got messed up, and became a deadeye or humans? That's not how it was. We saw 4th Ideal Radiants abandoning their Oaths, this is in conflict with your theory as those spren would be dead by then. Deadeyes were the result of breaking their Oaths, spren weren't killed just because. Radiants had to break Oaths first, and they did it together with their spren as we know from RoW and Maya. From Siblings words, imprisonment of BAM hurt anyone belonging to Roshar, especially spren, it ripped a part of their soul from them - that's why deadeye happened after BAM was put in a gem. Also there was no indication of anything happening with Spren before imprisonment of BAM in the Urithiru gem archive. They talk about how BAM connected herself to Singers granting them forms of power, and how they plan to stop that, but not a word about something bad happening with Spren. The Sibling was bound at that time, they broke their bond before the Tower was abandoned and BAM was imprisoned - this didn't deadeye the Sibling. The Sibling was hurt only after BAM was put into a gem, and they lost the ability to hear Honor's rhythm. And why this would only happen to True Spren, not every Spren including Lesser Spren? Why weren't Lesser Spren deadeyed in your theory? And why this didn't affect Highspren and Skybreakers - those spren weren't deadeyed, Radiants of this order remained hidden and on duty. Because she wasn't ready to bond, her knight died shortly before Recreance, and she couldn’t live through that pain and went into a coma, missing Recreance. She was sleeping for thousands of years. They could. They would know about Horneater's perpendicularity and would travel there to access CR to explain themself to their spren friends. This didn't happen. Nobody went back. That's far beyond the power of a single spren. You're talking about forcibly transporting thousands of highly invested Splinters of Honor and Cultivation and giving them body in PR, which they don't have. I think that's just impossible. They both have no abilities without their spren and bond. Yes, confirmed by WoBs. We didn't? Are you referring to Axies the Collector, the Siah Aimian? They are a different race, looking blue, able to change their skin and write on them etc. Their shadow points towards the sun. There were many theories about them, some suggest those are 5th ideal Honorspren due to some circumstances. But in your theory they can't be. Aimians were friends of Radiants, they existed long before Recreance, so the timeline doesn't check up for your theory to work (if you're talking about Axies). Siah and humans even interbreed resulting in creation of Natanatan people with their blueish skin. Maybe because her mother might have been a Herald? But I can't find those WoBs you're talking about. Yeah, no. I'm not following this. For me it looks like you draw random connections with nothing or for something we know already. Shallan has DID - Dissociative Identity Disorder (Multiple Personality Disorder). She literally becomes someone else with the help of Lightweaving. That's what Vathah was talking about. Nale is still boned to his spren. He joined the Order when he was still a Herald and fought in Desolations. That was an interesting theory. Nicely written. The first part was the most believable in my opinion, why I still don't agree with the whole, you've found interesting connections between True Spren and Unmade. Those might be important.
-
But your triple star system which I was talking about in that section was about Seosea not Niran and Verdas - binary planets are fine, no crisis incoming for them. As long as they aren't in orbit around a bigger planet, they're planets, not moons. You've made so much of it that some things had to be missed. Everything can be glowing, you would still be able to see some very surface dwelling fishes from the land, so it's fine. Oh yes, that would be good. Underwater hydrothermal vents would provide a base for your food chain, as cave water life would thrive, and cave surface animals can feed on those in water, and they can be food for others deeper in caves. I didn't know those things already exist: Ooooh, those kinds of eyes. Yeah, that makes so much more sense. But if you have a light source, you can have normal eyes now, even if with bad eyesight. Why did I google it... Cool and terrifying idea. Very detailed world. I'm in awe. That's why it sounds so familiar! Yeah, that makes sense. Good limitation. But - make a Malwish medallion for Lightbearers, a huge tank of Seashine and it will generate heat for a huge Invention. I don't think you can make it with just Invention, but once you get F-brass medallion (or heat fabrial), use Iron-invention to attract investiture that will fuel medallion, that will generate heat for inventions. Use corruption to turn investiture into the right type and, well you can do anything with it. I see now what you did! Right, the topic was about hybrid Shards names. I'm waiting to read and have fun nitpicking discussion about Whimsy. About Valor, you've inspired me with your binary system. Instead of sleeping, I was thinking about a world for a Shard to inhabit (the world later made me think it fit to Valor, but one of my main ideas while developing this world was that a Shard inhabited this world, but later abandoned it, leaving their investiture which they invested into that system behind). And while the planet is somewhat detailed, the magic is basic at best.
