Human is still alive?
-
Stormlight dissipates because that is a natural property of it. It has been compared to breath on that regard. In addition, breath does dissipate, it just stays a lot longer, but too much use of it through awakening will cause it to decay. Also, I don't think innate means it stays around. I think innate means that it is a part of your spiritual and provides spiritual attributes, while kinetic is for investiture which is used during manifestations of investiture, or other things. I don't think so because that falls into the purview of pewter feruchemy. If you're talking about somehow storing the hemalurgic charge in nicrosil, no, because that's likely kinetic investiture. If someone pulled out your iron hemalurgic spike while you're storing 20% strength into pewter, then I imagine the amount being stored would adjust to the new maximum, or the percent would adjust to maintain the amount stored.

Hypothesized Table of Nicrosil Effects
Spoolofwhool replied to DrakeMarshall's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I disagree, because as I said, it stores the ability to use a manifestation of investiture. Gaining an attribute from a manifestation of investiture doesn't matter unless it is for use a manifestation of investiture. Otherwise, you could say that any feruchemical attribute being tapped could be stored in nicrosil since at that point you would be gaining it as a result of a manifestation of investiture. The way I see it, kinetic investiture is what you use to power manifestations of investiture. Since breath can be used to power awakening, it would be characterized as kinetic investiture. Also, I think that innate investiture mainly refers to that which makes up the spiritweb, giving things like connection and the ability to use manifestations of investiture. People on Nalthis just have the phenomenon where a part of their innate investiture is kinetic investiture instead.- 17 replies

Hypothesized Table of Nicrosil Effects
Spoolofwhool replied to DrakeMarshall's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It seems to be that control over sand ribbons and the ability to slatrify are separate aspects of sand mastery strength, since it was mentioned that there were Mastrells who couldn't slatrify, but could manipulate an exceptional number of sand ribbons at a given time. I don't think this is the case. Hemalurgy binds the charge to your spiritweb, making it as if you had the specific piece of innate investiture. As such, since I think that Nicrosil can only store the ability to use a manifestation of investiture, you would only be able to store a hemalurgically-gained attribute if it is an ability to use a manifestation of investiture. I don't think Nicrosil would store breath since it seems to store innate investiture only, as far as we've seen, and breath in kinetic investiture. I'm amplifying the effects of holding biochromatic breath feels more likely to me. Might also grant an increased precision in the usage of surgebinding. Like breath, storing stormlight wouldn't make sense since it's kinetic investiture. I don't think it would be storing the nahel bond, but more likely the effect the nahel bond has on the surgebinding, the specific changes in the spiritweb. Probably have the overall usage of being able to store the ability to use the appropriate regional ability that the person possessed. With an unkeyed metalmind, that power could then be given temporarily to someone outside of the region, though regional access to the Dor would still be an issue. Overall, could probably increase precision and strength of effects, such as forgeries holding longer despite irregularities between the forgery and the original.- 17 replies

It's mentioned in WoA that a Koloss usually dies when its body grows too big and its heart gives out. I don't know how long that is though.

Once again, comes down the the question of whether you can store kinetic investiture in a nicrosil metalmind, or even forms of innate investiture unrelated to the ability to use a manifestation of investiture. Since I don't think this is the case, I don't think what is described is possible. If it were possible, I don't think it would work anyways, since the stormlight would probably be very poorly held in the nicrosil and would probably leech out due to the natural mechanics of stormlight. In any case, as Yata points out, simply gaining a large amount of investiture wouldn't turn you into a surgebinding, and would make you a sliver at best. I'm not sure what you mean by someone becoming a surgebinder by the way the Heralds do, since they gain surgebinding from their honorblades, nor are they slivers. Also, you would need the basic ability to internalize stormlight in the first place so that you can store it. tl;dr Not viable since I don't think nicrosil feruchemy works that way. Even if it did, other mechanics would prevent much of what you describe. The ability to perform allomancy is part of you innate investiture, which can be stored. Breath and stormlight are kinetic investiture.

Nice confirmation that Shashara wouldn't have been able to simply retake Nightblood's breaths.

@maxal It sounds like SA isn't a series for you, if reading the non-Adolin POVs is such a trial as you seem to be implying, and Adolin is the only hook it had for you. I know it's unfortunate, since Adolin is a very likable character, and everyone would love to see him grow, but ultimately, there is a plan and a story to be told, and as it stands Adolin cannot fit in. I'm sure Brandon would love to write more Adolin scenes if he knew he had room to and it didn't damage the story plan he had too much.

He has a soul, as I posted in the Hoid's Soul topic. More likely is that he has access to an ability similar to atium feruchemy where he can modify the soul's age, therefore modifying the body's age. That, or he uses lightweaving to make himself look younger or older.
-
Interesting thought, except that Brandon has stated that Hoid isn't afraid of shardblades because he can heal his soul afterwards. Also, not having a spiritual wouldn't protect you from a shardblade, since it would just cut your physical like it does with non-living objects or other objects without a spiritual. In addition, a spiritual is required for someone to have the ability to use a manifestation of investiture, meaning it would draw a lot of questions into how he can do allomancy, lightweaving, and hold biochromatic breath if he didn't have a spiritual.

I caught it when you originally posted it, but I got distracted after verifying that the picture was Simurgh by the Worm wiki page.

It's possible he gained some knowledge during that day. If it involves increasing his innate investiture, that could happen. However, it's also possible that he just had read texts about it before hand. Rosharans in the past had knowledge of realmatics, particularly since three orders of the KRs could travel to Shadesmare.

Yeah, it's a nice WoB since it seems to support the "super-intelligence" theory over the "prophecy" theory, which I've been thinking for awhile. I'm guessing the other types of intelligence probably include memory and intuition.
-
Interesting that the WoB that Argent provided seems to be implying that it is indeed just increased intelligence in multiples areas, versus him seeing the future as has been theorized. Unless seeing the future can be considered a type of intelligence, it seems to be more fair to say he just used logic and intuition to write the diagram.

[Theory] Misting's Allomancy is safer than Mistborn's one
Spoolofwhool replied to Yata's topic in Mistborn
Interesting thought. I actually had a thought some time ago that feruchemy did originally manifest as ferrings only. It only progressed to full feruchemists because the people who possessed the genes gathered together and amplified the gene. -
[All Spoilers] Brandon Can't Save Roshar as an Author
Spoolofwhool replied to teknopathetic's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Maybe. But if we have a 2-shard vessel who is actually proactive in their use of the power, then it would be different from Mistborn. It would be a pretty close line though. so it wouldn't be optimal, I think. -
These are some very nice WoBs.

I see. Understandable. I'll admit, Adolin is an exciting character, and very interesting to read. However, I'm not surprised this is happening since he isn't one of the main characters. I was actually surprised he got as much viewpoint as he did in WoR. As I said before, I think it's unfortunate that the number of Adolin's viewpoints would make or break your desire to read the book, since I think many of the characters are equally strong and interesting.
-
That's unfortunate. What part of the update indicated that Adolin's viewpoints are going to be reduced?

Voidbinding diagram or Old Magic Diagram
Spoolofwhool replied to Tsidqiyah's topic in Stormlight Archive
WoB is that Nightwatcher is to Cultivation approximately what the Stormfather is to Honor. Also, I have this weird recollection that something about this chart is insignificant because it was artistic choice and I feel like it was the woman. I'll dig to confirm though.- 6 replies

Yes, it's a good confirmation that people are aware that hemalurgy exists and can be used outside of Scadrial, which is fairly important and potentially devastating. I can't wait to see where some stories take it. As an aside, is this the first time it's confirmed that Khriss is writing the Ars Arcanum? Before, wasn't it just extremely strongly suspected?

theory The Red Eyed Immortals on Scadrial
Spoolofwhool replied to VirtuousTraveller's topic in Cosmere Discussion
These are possible. I doubt it's from Roshar though. We know Moelach is regionally-bound in its influence, so for it to be affecting Miles, it would have to be on Scadrial. Result of the Evil is possible, though we know so little about it, so really anything goes at this point. Brandon said he wouldn't consider it a possession. Odium doesn't have any power on Sel though so whatever Svrakiss are would probably be of Dominion or Devotion, some other splinter perhaps. -
There's a WoB on the matter. I can't find it, but I remember that it involved a discussion on whether you could awaken an object to run a mechanical system forever, which you can't since the breath would eventually run out, though we weren't given a time frame on how long that would take. Nice thought. However (Mistborn Era 2 things)
