Hypothesized Table of Nicrosil Effects

You're misunderstanding. He's saying that Vasher is saying that it only took 1000 breaths because that is what Shashara noticed was missing from her stash after the awakening. At the same time though, he's saying that it also took her divine breath. So according to his theory, what actually awakened Nightblood was 1000 normal breaths, plus the divine breath. The divine breath is not being counted. I don't agree with this at all.
-
I still disagree on the premise of being able to survive without a divine breath. I'll break down why, as well as the reason why you saying they can survive with extra breath conflicts with your theory. First of all, a theory I hold to is that the splinter which is a divine breath is the personality of the Returned. After the Nalthian dies and Endowment offers them a chance to return, if they accept, then their soul goes forth to the Beyond, and a divine breath is inserted into their body. This is why they have no memories of themselves before their deaths, and the only imprints they have is from remnants of the original cognitive of the person in the physical body. As such, giving up the the divine breath means they die, because they are essentially giving up their soul. Secondly, you said that Shashara accidentally used up her divine breath as well because she didn't know how many breaths he would take. That implies that she is therefore using up all her other breaths, and her divine breath, leaving her with none. Or you're implying that it requires 3000 breath equivalents, and that she had less than 3000 on her, so it took 1000 then the divine breath. I'm guessing you're not suggesting the former, because then she'd be dead, but the latter doesn't seem to work out either, since you just said that you think that she has a large number, around 20000. This is possibly true. However, it possible that Vasher just couldn't stand the risk. Also, Shashara seems to already have a precedent of letting dangerous knowledge spread, such at the creation of one-breath lifeless, Still fairly faulty, I know, but I'm hoping Nightblood will go into details on this. This wouldn't happen though, since investiture only gains its own sentience when otherwise unguided by a cognitive mind. Since the breaths she is holding have a cognitive mind, they wouldn't develop their own. Please point me to your source, as I haven't seen this confirmed anywhere. He's saying that it actually takes 3000 breaths to make Nightblood, so Shashara's 1000 + 2000 equivalent from the divine breath.

You are correct that all 5 of the Scholars were Returned. I disagree however with the idea that a divine breath was used in the creation of Nightblood. I don't see how Shashara could've used a divine breath and somehow survived. The divine breath is what powers Returned and returns them to life. Without it, they're dead again. Therefore, the theory is, in my opinion, paradoxical. I also don't think that in general, a divine breath is used to power Nightblood, as there is a WoB that no lives were lost in its making, and as I just stated, using a divine breath in any capacity would require killing the Returned. I also don't see why a change of heart would've been necessary for Shashara to create another Type IV awakened object. She was clearly a researcher, and it seems logical that once she created one, she would do so again, to verify the process and/or refine, even without some other motivation to do so. Therefore, Vasher logic in killing her to prevent the creation of more objects is understandable. Also, the knowledge itself is quite dangerous, letting it be known would be quite dangerous, so I don't see why just killing her to prevent the knowledge from spreading isn't likely.

Buoyancy does play a part in terminal velocity. Terminal velocity is, as you say, when the net force on an object is 0, and buoyancy is one of those forces, just like weight and drag force. I am not sure whether it is a relevant amount though. You are correct though that buoyancy is an insignificant factor in air, so my bad. Buoyancy also doesn't really have anything to do with density, unless you're saying he would be changing his volume at the same time. In any case, to readdress the OP with some math, assuming that your average skimmer has a regular body weight of 70 kg, giving a volume of 0.07 m^3, in order to actually start floating, assuming buoyancy is the only factor, they would have to be storing >99.9% of their weight, which I don't think is possible.
-
First of all, a Skimmer cannot store all of their weight (mass) at a given point. It's just a physical limitation of feruchemy, the same way you cannot store all your physical strength or physical speed. Wax usually only goes around at 3/4 normal weight (mass). Also, even if you could store 100%, you would never have a total weight of 0 N because there would still be a force of gravity on your metalminds. Secondly, skimming does affect buoyancy. This is shown in WoA when Sazed stores most of his weight (mass) then steps off of a cliff and floats to the bottom, because his terminal velocity is so low due to the force of gravity and buoyancy force of air being a lot closer together in magnitude. This should solve your conundrum.
-
I don't think so. I believe it has been said that the feruchemy would always strengthen the body enough to ensure it can support its own weight. Also, there's the consideration that in space, unless there's induced gravity, there isn't any weight to crush the Feruchemist.

Yes, I got that was what you wanted to do, attract spren versus just creating them, which isn't as feasible. On the subject of potions, I would agree with you since we haven't seen enough of them to form a good idea of what they're capable of. All that we know is that they can manipulate physical, and while that does imply cognitive manipulation to do that, we don't know if it can do spiritweb maniupulation, or if it does, if that would be finer than forgery. Also, it's possible that the potions are more dangerous, and can have negative effects if you incorrectly take into account spiritweb points when trying to change the spiritweb, unlike forgery which just doesn't work. Finally, in general I don't consider forgery or the potion-making as overpowered since they're unable to be properly reactive. You can any prepare them in anticipation of facing certain events, and considering limited supplies of what you can bring, you won't be able to handle near-enough. I agree that any power in the realm of cognitive and spiritual manipulation are the most useful by far.

Semiweekly WoB #1: Hoid is Immortal
Spoolofwhool replied to Ecthelion III's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yes. He clearly doesn't have shard-level power. After all, that much power does vaporize your physical form -
True. But at the same time though, kandra cannot make themselves unbreakable and Bleeder still had normal bones but she was stabbing people at high speed. In any case, if impacting through strikes is that dangerous, you can just get around it by using ranged weaponry, or just releasing something so that it vectors through someone. Still, valid points, and it does definitely lower the versatility. At the same time though, since a fullborn can avoid most of the problems, it just goes to show that a fullborn is probably the most broken combination. Can you link that WoB again? There was however another WoB that stated that it wouldn't be very possible to to enact a obtain the ability to use a manifestation of investiture from another shard using gold feruchemical due to the difference in investiture types. Also, yes, you could obtain any spren type, but you would still be limited in the number you could have since you would reach a point where personality points cancel out, and you would need to actually attract a spren. I also think it was stated that spren are tied to Roshar in some way so surgebinding off of Roshar would require some more hacking if you're gaining surgebinding through a nahel bond.

Semiweekly WoB #1: Hoid is Immortal

WoB is that he has survived a decapitation. -
Good point, yes. You're referring to Bleeder being a kandra right? It's possible that the feruchemy would also protect you from the friction of the air. Can't say for certain until we see a twinborn steelrunner.

But that would be excessive. You could just use steel and iron to spin the shuriken while you're moving it anyways.

I see. Yes, that makes more sense.

Creating a number of autonomous clones to act on multiple fronts? Interesting thought.
-
You wouldn't be able to push or pull a Shardblade though. They're too invested. Good thought though. If you want broken, honestly IMO steel-steel twinborn is the most broken thing in existence. You don't even need to be Fullborn. Steel feruchemy compounding from allomancy to get high charge so you can move at extremely high speeds would make you into the ultimate killing machine. Yes, survivability would be an issue, but that's just a limiter.

The Official Thread of Relationships
Spoolofwhool replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
"Started" as in, we were hanging out it at some point we were cuddling. It hasn't happened since because I'm at university which is half-way across the country (Canada). Neither of us has brought it up, but... we're also introverted people who are terrible at making decisions when we're together so I'm not surprised. I'm also bad at reading people so I don't really know. I considered bringing it up soon after, but wasn't sure if it would be weird or anything so I ended up not. It's pretty awkward overall since I've known her for most of my life. I'm 18, and I've known her for at least 12 years. There's also the fact that her brother, who was over as well, ships us to some degree. Plus, I don't know how I feel romantically. I'm not a very emotional person, so I can't really tell. Overall, like I said, it's a pretty weird situation, one which I haven't been in before, so I don't really know what to do. Any suggestions anyone? We have agreed to hangout when I'm back for the holidays. -
Semiweekly WoB #1: Hoid is Immortal

Kaladin heals his arm with stormlight after Szeth severs his soul. Brandon has stated that gold feruchemy can heal the soul as well. Also, hemalurgy damages the soul, we just haven't seen it really happen in a significant way since the person usually dies anyways. -

Not really, because all the systems I listed are known to heal the soul as well, with the exception of Regrowth, except that I have no doubt that it can as well. -

Soulstone isn't metal though, so I don't see how you could make it into a hemalurgic spike. Besides, it has been confirmed that the spikes are metal and from a shard.- 70 replies

Semiweekly WoB #1: Hoid is Immortal
Spoolofwhool replied to Ecthelion III's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It's interesting though, because there are 16 shards but only ten major shardworlds, then unless a number of shards aren't investing in worlds, there are 6 dishardic worlds and 4 monoshardic. So I guess since they're rare, either there's a world where a bunch of shards have invested, leaving most of the other major shardworlds monoshardic, or there are just a number of shards not investing in worlds like Odium. -
That would be interesting, because it might not understand what "being a sword" means. That, or it would realize that it is already a sword and just wouldn't do anything.
