[Arcanum Unbounded Spoilers] The world inhabited solely by...
Spoolofwhool replied to Landis963's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The perpendicularity on First of the Sun is probably more due to ambient investiture leftover when Adonalsium created the Cosmere than an shard's investiture since it's a Minor Shardworld. -
Arcanum Unbounded Shai Art
Spoolofwhool replied to Pagerunner's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Really nice art. The Interview with the artist was also interesting. -
Maybe not the commonly accepted theory, but whenever the Adonalsium's opposing force comes up, I always see people saying it's been fairly agreed that it was that group, and not an actual other super-entity. I don't actually have any idea on the matter since I haven't read Dragonsteel or anything. I don't have an issue with that theory since I haven't seen any WoBs which contradict it, but really, I think any idea goes.
-
Unlikely that the opposing force of Adonalsium will be a villain at any point since the most accepted theory regarding that is that the force was the organization of people who became the first shardholders plus a few others. In other words, Ati, Leras, Rayse, Bavadin, etc, plus perhaps a few others like Hoid. Also, I'm fairly certain that it has been stated that SA is planned to be Cosmere-independent with regards to understanding its main story, so any major plot point theory that requires greater Cosmere knowledge is moot.

I'm repeating the WoB but added a comparison to it (the every person knows 1 model ) i also forgot to add an opinion about if specifically every person knows a coinshot specifically not just any allomancer that would mean allomancers in general must be really common if everybody knows a single 1 of the specific 18 mistings. It's more like to agree to your point but tbh i would've just quoted your WoB but this forum for reason can't quote nested-quotes(quote within the quote) from other people(i don't know why every damnation forum allows this except here) so i just ended typing it instead. Fair enough. Yeah, that's a curious thing that everyone knows at least one coinshot. I'm guessing though that because coinshot is probably, at this time period, the most useful and obvious when used power, coinshots in general are a more common occurrence than other mistings. As such, overall they might not be that common as the public knowledge distribution isn't uniform, but definitely, chances are that every person knows at least 2-3 mistings including a coinshot.

Would Vin be considered a anti hero if she took the power
Spoolofwhool replied to Cloud Farren's topic in Mistborn
This is true. Of course, just distributing plates wouldn't really work either without something credible to back it up. Becoming immortal and just keeping the whole Well of Ascension/Hero of Ages thing a secret and taking the power every 1000 years would be the best method. As I said, I don't think Vin becoming another LR is a very likely occurrence at all. Good catch. I meant to say Preservation, not Ruin. I'll go fix that. -
You quoted me, but I'm just curious why you're just repeating what I said.

At the special epilogue in the 10th anniversary edition, there's a scene with Hoid.

Would Vin be considered a anti hero if she took the power
Spoolofwhool replied to Cloud Farren's topic in Mistborn
True. Sounds like more SH things. In any case, he might not want her to be a LR, and I agree with that, but I think he would've been in favor of her doing what Rashek had done, ensuring that she was around for the next well so in order to prevent someone from ignorantly following the prophecy. I do think that that wouldn't require the establishment of a system like TLR did. Overall, I'm still solid on the idea that she wouldn't become the next LR. -
Would Vin be considered a anti hero if she took the power
Spoolofwhool replied to Cloud Farren's topic in Mistborn
Ah, yes. You're right I haven't read SH, but I'm aware of that. True, I didn't consider that. I thought you were referring to physical people. It's my default thought when I hear person. I have no doubt she would've been surprised by his appearance, and no doubt the overall truth of the fight between Shards. I wonder whether he would've tried to convince her to become another LR. I wouldn't be surprised honestly if he did, and it does weight me a bit more towards her becoming another LR if she had ascended at that point. -
What do you think Hoid's intentions are in the cosmere?
Spoolofwhool replied to Revan Kholin's topic in Cosmere Discussion
In general, it looks like his current main goals are to grant himself the ability to use various manifestations of investiture. In SA time, it looks like he might also have the side goal of stopping Rayse, but based on his conversation with Dalinar, it sounds like if it interferes with his main goals too much, he'll back out. Possibly working with a shard. It's probably not Odium or Autonomy though since it's fairly solidly stated that Hoid has a grudge against both of them. -
Unfortunately, the premise you're using to compare TLR and Harmony doesn't work. Saying that TLR was smarter than Harmony because he acted in a smarter way and used his power more wisely falls flat when you consider the fact that Harmony admits that he is unable to use his power to the fullest extent because of certain restrictions. As such, I still think Harmony is smarter that TLR, because he had a better education pre-Ascension, and he is holding two shards, with their combined knowledge, along with all the knowledge from his copperminds. Don't get me wrong though. I agree that TLR was the smartest person on Scadrial, but only if you consider the scope of time from when the previous Hero of Ages died to present and exclude Shards. Otherwise, I would argue that we don't know how he would measure compared to the other Heroes of Ages, and they could've been smarter, and the shards were definitely smarter than him during TFE-period.
-
Don't forget that he has a major advantage compared to anyone in TFE-period Scadrial: He had ascended. During his ascension, he learned a lot of things. He knew about Ruin's plans and that Preservation's prison was breaking. He was probably also afforded a limited view of the future. Afterwards, the changes which marked him as a sliver likely included an expansion in cognitive, so he was, in general, smarter than most people. In addition, he had the advantage of being a feruchemist; he could tap zinc at moments in order to make mental leaps which he would've normally taken a lot longer to make. There is also the fact that he lived way longer than anyone and had way more experience. So yes, he was clearly the smartest person in TFE-period Scadrial. That doesn't really mean much though as an achievement since he acquired it through a means that only a person every one thousand years could've had. Post-ascension, and comparing him against any other Scadrian in terms of intelligence is like comparing a star and a moon for how bright they are. It's a fairly meaningless comparison. You would need to compare him against other ascended to say if he was actual a smart person. Also, a couple things. BoM/MS:SH spoilers Secondly, we can only say he was the smartest in the history of TFE. Over the whole Scadrian history, I have no doubts that the other Heroes of Ages who ascended emerged with an intelligence comparative to his, and we don't know much about their actions so we cannot say how smart he was compared to them. Also, Harmony or the other shardholders are probably smarter than him, though I'm assuming you were only comparing him against other non-shardholders.

Warbreaker spoilers. Final point, please note in the title that there are Warbreaker spoilers in the topic if you don't want to spoiler those spoilers and keep it in the SA subforum.

Who? Only Elend and other people were there. -
Would Vin be considered a anti hero if she took the power
Spoolofwhool replied to Cloud Farren's topic in Mistborn
I doubt Vin would've become a new Lord Ruler. The main reason is that we know there have been other Heroes of Ages, and like Vin, they probably had a hero-complex towards the duty. They all wanted to do the right thing for everyone, protect the world. While Alethi and Vin were corrupted by Ruin's changing of the prophecy, they still had similar mentality. I believe that that mentality would've prevented them from doing something like taking control of the world. On the other hand, Rashek, who did become TLR, had fairly different mentality. I would say that his mental state was fairly geared towards feelings of oppression, and respect towards the other nation. Don't forget, Rashek hated Alethi because he believed that the Hero of Ages should've been a Terris, but at the same time, he respected Alethi's nation, looked up to it, and was probably jealous of their technological advancements with regards to the Terris. All that accumulated with the knowledge he gained, and he realized a method of being on top. At the same time though, there was probably a factor which both Vin and Rashek had in common. Rashek was aware that the prophecy was being corrupted to a certain degree, from his uncle. Drawing on the Well's power and the knowledge probably confirmed what Ruin had been doing, and he realized that if he just left things, the next HoA would definitely just release the power and free Ruin. That likely added to his motivation to become TLR. Vin too, had she held onto the power instead of releasing as she had, would've had that same knowledge, and realized what was happening and that leaving things as they were would've resulted in the next HoA releasing Ruin, and possibly why Rashek made the decision he did. As such, there is a possibility there that Vin would step herself up as the next LR. My question though is whether she would be able to use Preservation's power to turn herself into a feruchemist to make that possible, though I imagine it would be. -
What would a Atium boosted by Duralumin do?
Spoolofwhool replied to Cloud Farren's topic in Mistborn
First of all, anyone can burn Lerasium, though you would have to be a duralumin misting. As a general effect, lerasium changes your spiritweb. Also, it appears that it burned instantaneously for Elend, making him into a mistborn in an instant. As such, I don't think duralumin would do anything, since lerasium already burns in a moment. -
Your wish is my command. I guess that's enough for now. PS.

How Splintering Works (Half-Baked Theory)
Spoolofwhool replied to cometaryorbit's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Now I'm actually crossing topics because I posted an explanation for this in another one. So here's a very loose theory, but basically, Preservation gave the humans the extra investiture so that they could be sapient, and for this to occur, the investiture leaked from the spiritual to the cognitive, augmenting their cognitive and making them smarter. At the same time, since the investiture was no longer in the cognitive realm, Preservation lost easy access to it and became weaker. The same thing happened when Ruin and Preservation made Scadrial. They moved a lot of their investiture into the physical realm, therefore losing easy access to it. This related slightly to a question I've wanted to pose Brandon regarding the relative strengths of Shards. I'm fairly certain that you cannot quantify the power of shards, but I'm interested in comparisons like "Ruin is stronger than Preservation post-Scadrian Sapience", "Harmony is stronger than Odium"?, etc. I feel like this question would give an idea of what events diminish and separate a shard from its power. -
I'm referring to end result, not the actual mechanics which cause the splintering. My poor wording. That's a good theory about the connection, but then it seems less likely when we hear about Hoid's account that Ati was a good man, yet he still drew Ruin. I suppose he could've had an unconscious desire for Ruin though. I used ambient investiture because that it somewhat how Brandon referred to the power.
