This was my assumption as well.

I feel sure the Allomantic table is complete (minus god metals and their alloys). So I don't think burning does anything. In chemistry terms, "burn" generally means oxidation. Introduce hydrogen to oxygen and it turns into water and releases quite a bit of energy. It's the fuel source that many rockets use. Of course, rockets burn liquid hydrogen (hydrogen gas cooled down into liquid). By the sound of it, this metal seemingly wouldn't interact easily with oxygen. Not sure what you'd have to do to change that.

Might not be true unfortunately: http://www.nature.com/news/physicists-doubt-bold-report-of-metallic-hydrogen-1.21379 In any case, I'm guessing it would probably be easier for Scadrians to make it than it would be to mine it from the middle of a gas giant.

And don't forget what Harmony told Wax, about being nice to her because he put her into the constabulary for a reason (etc.). He's been working with Marasi as well, just not speaking directly to her.

It's her curiosity that makes the idea fun to me! She's part scholar and part adventurer, with enough competency to root for her but not so much that she doesn't make fun mistakes. It would be really fun to see her discover the cosmere and start poking around with the implications. Wax, Wayne, and MeLaan can jump into action and get stuff done. But I think Marasi has been groomed to play a key role in book 4. Wax will pull the trigger in the end, but Marasi will be the one who figures out where he needs to point the gun.

With her curiosity about Trell... I'm thinking (and hoping) that she becomes a worldhopper.

Can't find a specific WoB, but non-Nalthians don't have Breath. Breath is not the same thing as the innate investiture that everybody in the Cosmere has.

The secret behind the Rosharian Gas Giants [Theory]
Jofwu replied to Unodus's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Lots of people think Arc 1 will end with Odium escaping. It makes sense. He's clearly the big baddie of Stormlight, and if there's no change in the status quo then it doesn't make a very good story. That said, there's also an argument to be made against it. Unless he just wants to hang around and destroy Cultivation (but can't do so easily for some reason), I would expect him to just pack up and leave Roshar for the time being. Surely he has higher priorities. He's also packing a lot of power, and at this point we're a long way from our protagonists being ready to even TRY fighting back against a Shard. Seems more likely to me that facing Odium will be book 9/10 thing. I'm expecting the end of Arc 1 to be the climax of the True Desolation. The world will be hurt badly, but they'll limp out of it. The downside being that something in that process severely weakens whatever is holding Odium down. So Arc 2 will be about where they go from there.- 30 replies

I asked Brandon about White Sand on Reddit a couple months ago and he said they were targeting roughly one per year, but that volume 2 might be later than this because they wanted to make sure volume 1 sold well before continuing. (point being they hadn't started work right after finishing volume 1, sounded like they were working on it at the time I asked) White Sand Volume 2 is listed on Amazon now with a July 11, 2017 release. Assuming this is correct, it means they did really well in hitting their target release. And pairing that with what Brandon said, it seems like pretty good odds that volume 3 will be out in Summer 2018 (or at least by the end of the year). All that to say, I'd move WSv2 to "release date announced" and WSv3 to "coming soon" (tentatively 2018)

I wondered this myself. He was pretty devout, and you have to think that becoming a worldhopper shifted his view of Kelsier. But Kelsier DID do some incredible things AND hold a Shard for a time. He's a notable figure and his message is still in tact. That's probably enough for Demoux to run with.

I was so glad when "Array" was mentioned. With Sequence I started wondering how many list-related S names these people could come up with. Looking forward to meeting Vector and Matrix. I lean towards Trell=Autonomy. Can't see any connection there, so I have to assume the Set's naming scheme isn't directly related to Trell.

Metalminds and steel vision; steelpushing on Roshar
Jofwu replied to Valtak's question in Cosmere Q&A
Shadesmar is a Rosharan term for the entire Cognitive Realm. It's a word that you'll probably only hear from Rosharans, but that doesn't mean it only refers to their corner of the Cognitive Realm. Some fans really like the term Shadesmar, so they may use that instead. Others prefer the more generic, 'scientific' term (Cognitive Realm). Brandon uses the terms interchangeably. Of course, we all naturally tend to use "Shadesmar" in the context of Stormlight Archive. Simply because that's what the characters there call that realm. But it's definitely a mistake to say that Shadesmar only refers to the Rosharan portion of the Cognitive Realm. A Rosharan scholar (who's in the know) would use the term Shadesmar to refer to the entire Cognitive Realm. -
Here's a good, brief explanation of everything: http://www.reddit.com/r/cosmere/wiki/overview 1. Some of the Dudes/Chicks ("Vessels") probably aren't human. 2. The emotions/qualities are "Intents", and are just a word that describes what that Shard wants to do. We/characters use that as a name for the Shard. 3. Odium isn't necessarily working alone. There are hints that he might have partnered up with Autonomy on at least one occasion. 4. I wouldn't say nobody else cares. He's only killed 4 so far. Two happened at once, and the last (Honor) successfully trapped Odium inside the Roshar system before he died. Given his name (Honor), it wouldn't be surprising if he intentionally put himself into that situation, or went into it knowing he might not survive. And we know that Harmony (Ruin/Preservation) doesn't seem to be aware of what's going on away from his world. So it's possible that some of the others don't know. 5. There are lots non-vessels who have an idea of what's going on besides Khriss (the White Sand girl) and Hoid. Hoid wrote a letter to somebody (presumably a dragon, who was around from the beginning) who knows the whole story. This dragon has a whole "team" of people called the 17th Shard who seem to know what's going on. He believes that non-intervention is the best course of action, apparently thinking that Odium can't get out of his current situation and that if they meddle it will make things worse. Furthermore, Khriss currently lives in a city (in the Cognitive Realm) of people who supposedly know what's going on to some degree. 6. Odium splinters the other Shards because he doesn't want to take it for himself (it would change him from Odium to "Odium + something else") and because he doesn't want some other person to come along and take the power.

He definitely has at least a handful. He's one of the tertiary characters, which means he should get a few viewpoints in at least one Part. And Brandon suggests here that we'll definitely see what happens next. Killing Sadeas was a pretty big deal for him. I expect it will be the highlight of his viewpoint chapters. It's not going to be a major plotline for the book or anything, but I definitely think it will be addressed.

I'm not disagreeing that they are Splinters. I was critiquing the logic that Splinters are necessarily the result of a Shard being splintered.

wait! how did a kandra survive being buried for days?
Jofwu replied to king of nowhere's topic in Mistborn
I think there's a conspiracy in all of this... Johnst is the name of the person in question. The general assumption (Marasi and MeLaan's assumption) is that Paalm killed Johnst, used him to blow the dam, was executed and buried, and then escaped from the grave. I think there are some flaws to this, plus I've got a theory that there's more going on in SoS than meets the eye. I think Trell/Autonomy is pulling strings and directly interacting with Scadrial, particularly via the spikes of an unknown metal (presumably 'trellium'). My theory is that these spikes block out Harmony and allow Trell/Autonomy to speak directly to people. So what are the oddities? Marasi and MeLaan identify one of them. If Paalm were playing the role of Johnst, she would have done her research and known the man's family better. They write this off, assuming that she was in a hurry or just didn't care, but I don't think this solves the puzzle. If that's the case, why bother imitating someone at all? The whole point was to put real economic stress on the Elendel basin. Couldn't Paalm have just done that without the use of someone else's bones? Also, why would she defend herself at the trial, arguing that the whole thing was a mistake? (saying he wanted to ruin a neighbor's farm, not blow the whole dam) If her end game is to be executed and crawl out of the grave, and if she's in a hurry, why not take full responsibility and move things along? It all just doesn't make enough sense for me. My theory is that Paalm wasn't the one to blow the dam- it was Johnst himself. But why would Johnst semi-accidentally blow a dam, forget the names of his family, and then ask to be executed ASAP? Because he was losing his mind... thanks to a trellium spike. It's EXACTLY the same thing that happened to Rian-- the guy who "tried" to shoot the governor in Elendel. The voice in his head was driving him crazy and convincing him to do things he normally wouldn't. It exploited his anger towards a neighbor and drove the man to a dark place that left his mind broken. Why was Johnst's grave desecrated? Because Paalm (or somebody) had reason to recover the trellium spike. Heck, maybe it's the same one implanted in Rian. My theory is that Trell/Autonomy herself is actively speaking to people with these spikes. For more on this, see the theory linked in my signature. But it's also possible that Paalm was the one who convinced Johnst to do what he did, for the sake of a less conspiratorial answer. -
No, the release valve thing is Honor/spren. He specifically says Seons/Skaze aren't numerous enough to fulfill that function. Do we know they weren't around before Devotion/Dominion were splintered? That WoB seems to suggest otherwise... though I guess it could just be a what-if type comment.

You guys seem to be suggesthing that "splinters" of a Shard are related to that Shard being "splintered". Those are two totally distinct concepts, are they not? There are examples of non-splintered Shards which have splinters: I DO wonder however if there's some way for them to get around this problem by means of Connection. In theory, would establishing an artificial means of Connection with Arelon allow Elantrians you to use AonDor elsewhere? Secret History spoiler:

Perhaps we'll see Sazed making use of these "powers" down the road? I suspect the RAFO is more related to the nature of Preservation/Ruin than it is about some historical fact involving Alendi.

There's not really a place where all of the most popular theories have been collected. You just have to stick around for a while before you start to soak them in. Pull up the forums for the books that interest you most and skim through for an interesting topic. Or look for things that have lots of replies. You can also join us on Reddit. The way I see it, time spent working on one project is time away from some other project. I expect helping with additional graphic novels will take relatively little of Brandon's time. He already has the backbone of the stories done (theoretically), and there's relatively little writing required. I say stick with the graphic novel medium for White Sand and let Brandon get on to other things sooner.
-
I've heard something similar from multiple sources. It sounds like knowing how to read a graphic novel takes practice. Like there's a hidden language involved that you have to learn. Stylistic subtleties that you miss without experience. And I think a lot of people reading White Sand aren't coming in with that experience, which is where a notable amount of frustration comes from. I've noticed that it gets better with successive reads. The biggest issue definitely seems to be the more obvious errors. Inconsistency with art, indistinguishable characters, misattributed speech bubbles, etc.
