  1. You're saying it's a gene everyone has... It just happens that the ability was bred out of everyone but the Terris people. Only Teris people still have F genes (FF's and Ff's) while everyone else is ff.
  2. Peter, is this (http://brandonsanderson.com/contact/) the right place to request White Sand Prose? With "General Comments" as the subject? I'm trying to work on the Coppermind wiki pages and the prose version would help me out with some capitalization and terminology questions. I filled that form out and it's been quite a while now. I assume you guys have just been busy--between AU,Oathbringer, and the holidays--but I just wanted to make sure.
  3. Could that not be what Brandon is simply referring to? The way the question/answer are worded, I don't think it (necessarily) means we've literally seen people migrating.
  4. I thought I'd heard something like that (the WoB), but he seems to be saying Iyatil wasn't part of any migrations. I imagine those would have happened over great stretches of time. My thinking on Iyatil is that she's obviously not originally Rosharan- she's just there now. Given her strong cultural ties to Scadrial, I assume she was raised there. And that leaves some other world that she was born on. Could be that Scadrial was first, but unless she spent a lot of time there I don't think the mask habit would have stuck. And if she stayed that long, I don't see how she could be considered "from" the mystery world. But then, given she's a worldhopper with a crazy lifespan it's hard to say.
  5. She's Scadrian, no? Or is the idea that she did spend time there, but she's not from there?
  6. Just wanted to add that he doesn't recognize the voice in his head at first. Maybe the voice changes later? Can't remember. But when he first heard it the voice it sounds "rasping and crude. Brutal." Probably reaching too far here, but... The voice of a dragon, maybe? :-)
  7. Not to say that a mobile app is necessary, but I have experienced problems with text entry on mobile. Sometimes feels like it was designed with desktop in mind and not mobile. Calling out usernames (@...) makes all kind of trouble. When I pick the name it sticks it in place as it should, but then I can't seem to type any text afterwards. If I try to put to the left side of the username it seems to get stuck "inside" the username tag and it won't escape. Typing does nothing. I usually have to write out all of my text and then go back and insert the usernames. Quotes also seem to be a little buggy. In particular I have trouble deleting empty quote boxes. I sometimes also have trouble adding text before or after them. Cursor keeps getting pulled into the box. Not huge problems, but it can be pretty annoying. I use Firefox on Android, so maybe it just doesn't play nice with that browser.
  8. There's a recent WoB (can't find it, anyone know where?) that the color red DOES have significance in the cosmere, but it is NOT necessarily associated with Odium. Edit: found it
  9. I think AU pretty strongly implies that Khriss used a perpendicularity.
  10. Exactly. Ruin impersonated Reen, for example, so I don't know if that really matters. I don't know if there's really any evidence for what I'm saying. But given how Brandon likes to set things up... and assuming that Era 2 will come together in the end to tell a single overarching story in the end... This seems like a real possibility to me so long as there isn't sturdy evidence against it. I can easily see this being the sort of thing that gives you chills on a reread, after Lost Metal. Edit: Oh, and to be clear... I don't think what I'm saying requires Paalm to be totally under Trell's influence. Maybe Paalm is just working with/for Trell. Heck, maybe she really is completely doing her own thing; I don't think that rules out the possibility that Trell is poking around in the middle of her work. And in either case, I don't think all of Trell's pawns necessarily have to be on the same page, working with one another.
  11. You mean the Paalm who was spiked with trellium? I decided to make another thread anyways, if you want to discuss more there. @Talanelat'Elin Stonesinew Ah, I see what you're saying. That could make sense, though my personal guess is that Trell co-opted an existing religion. I doubt his influence extends that far back.
  12. I noticed something interesting in a SoS reread last night. At the end of chapter 7, Wax goes in to interrogate Rian, the spiked man who tried to shoot Winsting. Here's a rough quote: Two chapters later it is revealed that Rian was spiked by some unknown metal (likely trellium). In that same chapter, Wax hears a voice in his head while wearing his earring. In both cases, Wax assumes that the voice he hears is Paalm. But... does that really make sense? There's really no precedent for a person (including kandra) to talk to somebody via Hemalurgy. Isn't it much more likely that some other Shard is at work? "Someone else moves us lawman." Given the context revealed in BoM, doesn't it seem likely that Trell is at work here? In fact, I'd like to go even a step further. I'm reading this in the context of the new info released with AU, where we learned that (1) Bavadin is female (technically, at least) and (2) Autonomy is away from Taldain, meddling somewhere else. This context made the "she" stand out to me. What if "she"=Trell=Autonomy? I'm not super familiar with Era 2 Mistborn, so help me out if I'm missing something in all of this. Isn't Paalm's message and mission about "freeing" Scadrial from Harmony's control? How certain are we that Paalm is acting completely on her own here? She IS spiked by some unknown metal. Presumably trellium. Are we really sure that she wasn't (at least partially) under the influence of another Shard? A Shard who wants to divorce a planet from the control of Harmony? Remember: "Someone else moves us lawman."
  13. I noticed something SUPER interesting in a SoS reread just now. Thought about making a new topic, but this one seems close enough... At the end of chapter 7, Wax goes in to interrogate Rian, the man who tried to shoot Winsting. Here's a rough quote: From here Rian goes on to point out the coin buried in his skin and so on. Now, I'm not particularly familiar with SoS. But I don't think we've ever had much reason to find this interaction very notable. But now we have this news that Autonomy (Bavadin, rather) is female. And the "she" really catches my eye, folks. I think we generally assume Wax is correct that Rian is talking about Paalm. But isn't it clear that something else is at work behind all that we've seen? Follow me. What if Trell is the "she". Rian didn't hear from a faceless immortal. He heard from God. Harmony? No, some other God. Trell. Autonomy. Bavadin. Do we have a good idea of what Autonomy's Intent looks like in practice? Because this line sounds suspicious to me: "She promised me freedom..." A "she" promising freedom, and the guy think's she's a god? We know Autonomy has left Taldain and is up to something. I'm curious if this little conversation is one that's going to have SO much more deep meaning in retrospect, after Trell is revealed. That's all. As an aside, Trell can't be multiple Shards, I think. There's a recent WoB that Harmony is the only vessel holding multiple Shards. Brandon cited Dev & Dom as the only other case where two shards are mixed. (Besides Harmony) I think this is from the recent Chicago signing. The outdoor Q&A.
  14. Alright, I got it started. Article is "Thaylen script". I used the "women's script" article for structure. A few comments: 1. Is that a good title? Does it have a name in the text? Maybe should just be "Thaylen"? 2. It needs a copy of the Southern Frost land's map, I think. And the translation sheet, in the empty section? 3. Needs lots of citation! Both to the book and the work done by decoders. Not sure if that was just Harakake or if others helped? 4. Will need to consider other places that link to this page. At least need it referenced on the Thaylenah page. Probably could also use more content. I just hit on the basics.
  15. I know White Sand Prose falls into the list, and I assume Aether does as well, given the private board. Any others?
  16. Sure, and some of that might be my unfamiliarity as well. But I'd still argue there's something wrong with it. In both cases, I didn't feel like Kenton was as confused or freaked out as he should be. I mean, he's had his power since he was a young boy and then it's just gone? And he pretty much just accepts that over the course of two days? Then it comes back and he hardly even questions it? I felt like that moment deserved at least a panel or two of him showing some pure confusion. And maybe have him fall out of his first tornado-thingy, or something like that, to show his inexperience with multiple ribbons? The lack of attention on his emotions in those situations made me feel like I missed something. Because he should be way more confused and concerned than I was, and I didn't feel like that was the case.
  17. Isn't that how all fabrials work?
  18. I think that's a big part of it for many of us. I hear with a GN you have to read once to get the story and characters down and then a second time to properly experience. And I've definitely enjoyed it more with each read. At this point, my biggest frustration is that it doesn't feel like a complete story. But it's not. That's my own fault for feeling like it should be. It's not book 1 of a trilogy. It's volume 1 of a single story. There are some issues, which I'd put into two categories: quality and storytelling There's a good number of obvious quality issues. Like Jon and Cynder having their speach bubbles swapped on occaision, or the Kerztian warriors never wearing armor when they're apparently supposed to. It's really embarassing that these issues slipped through. That said, these are easier to ignore and read over on subsequent reads. Then there's the storytelling issues. I think most of this comes from the translation from a prose novel to a graphic novel. There's a number of issues that make the story itself difficult or awkward to follow. The kinds of things that still feel jarring even when you have read the thing 3 times and know to expect them. So take Kenton's sand mastery disappearing to nothing and then coming back with a huge multiplier. I expect this is supposed to be a bit of a mystery in Brandon's novel... You know how he likes to tease at mysteries in the magic. But it didn't work in the graphic novel. Something is missing, and you're left wondering if you've missed something. Another example, for me, would be the way all sand masters look identical, which makes the narrative feel dry since I can't connect with the speaker very well (for the first 2 chapters). And there are at least 2 or 3 times that Kenton seems to say something completely out of character... or at least, the character that has been portrayed to me. I've asked for a copy of White Sand prose just because I think it will help me read over the storytelling issues with more ease. Fingers crossed that the experience with volume 1 helps these guys do better on the next 2. I expect it will. If the next 2 volumes are the same as the first, I'll still buy them for the sake of getting a Sanderson story. However, I definitely won't recommend them to others unless the quality and storytelling improve somewhat.
  19. Where are you getting that from? The prose?
  20. Totally fine by me. I think it's cool to have some variety.
  21. "Even in the original" definitely makes it sounds like Hoid does/did indeed have a little brother. (in canon cosmere)
  22. Ha! Is an unusual thing in an unusual circumstance unusual or normal?
  23. The gist seems to be that someone who "handles" Investiture (in one form or another) often and frequently is changed because of the impact it has on their spirit. Presumably that could be the physical nature of their body, their mental development, the way they think, their strength with powers, etc. It's more complex and... biological?... than it is a simple "power up" in some ability.
  24. Calling the Dor "polarized" instantly made me think of a magnet. One thing made of two opposites. If you cut off the positive end of a magnet you don't get a piece that's "more positive". You get a smaller magnet with two polarized ends. I expect this is closer to Dor's nature.
  25. What special abilities did Spook have? He just had INSANELY enhanced senses. I always thought savantism was just a matter of having more strength and control of the normal powers. I can see how Wax's bubble could be interpreted either way.
