He actually has chosen the survival of others over himself at least twice. Once when he let himself be killed - though that was also for revenge. Again when he gave up Preservation; he expected Ruin to kill him. He was also willing to remain trapped in the well for a thousand years or longer to keep Ruin trapped, which has to be one of the more selfless things we've seen him do. Indications are also that he would not have taken Mare's geode if he had known it was her only one. Now, if we're talking about sacrificing himself for some random people with no greater cause... I don't think he's capable of that yet. Maybe eventually, but not when we last saw him.

I ordered pretty early but had trouble with making my question fit 90 characters. I also wanted a message for my DD's birth. I put the original text and more info on baby into the instructions section.

I just ordered it!

In the personalization part of the form I put the following: Signature; congratulations on the birth of a new baby girl; In the coppermind memory at the end of Bands of Mourning Kelsier's focus seems to be externally oriented. Is this because of how Kelsier has grown and matured as a character between the end of Secret History and the beginning of the events of the memory; or is this due to Wax's perception of the events shown? Does anyone know if this is the proper format for this? Also, is the question clear enough?

Dark side magic is referenced twice. The Graphic novel flaps and intro mention it. So, I believe, do Brandon's comments. In AU Khriss mentions that they used to think to think only Dayside was invested but now know that that is inaccurate. She does not discuss it further. personally, I think all of Khriss' essays feel incomplete, as though we are only seeing the introductions to a much larger piece. For some of them it feels like I could attach the AU essays to the related Ars Arcanum and it would flow together as one work.

Thanks! I'm actually moving now to maybe managing it. A lot depends on how much it hurts to walk at that point, whether anyone can watch my son, and if my baby can be quiet enough. So I might (BIG might) make it after all. If not, at least I'll get a signed leather bound Mistborn as a baby gift from my husband. Though I'm picking the question... If I make it we can look for each other there.

I doubt I'm going to be able to go after all. Walking is much to painful right now, but I'll see how I feel Saturday night. -
I doubt he's the only one who's fought it though. Some people are accepting of death; others will fight as long as they can. And Kell doesn't believe there is anything there. He feels he's being drawn toward oblivion. Others may have different beliefs. Then again, it IS the final empire. Death may actually be viewed as a relief by many. Of course Preservation DID imprint the idea of Survival on Kelsier, sooo.... Though I agree; Kell is definitely staying for himself. For Scadrial too, but for himself first. Though he has chosen Scadrial over himself on occasion... it's part of what makes him such a fascinating character.

It was in the topic about Ven Dell's coat. I will try to look it up. Edit: I found it! Thank you so much! The simple version of the question is 'being that grey is a color, why does awakening turn objects grey? Is it because small amounts of color remain on a microscopic level that our eyes are perceiving as grey? (Similar to the effect that occurs in pointillism.) As an artist, here are some thoughts. You get brown and grey the same way when mixing pigments. (It has to with contrasting colors.) I've never actually understood why awakening turns objects grey, as grey is itself a color and should be usable for awakening. It makes more sense to turn things white... Which DOES happen when a person with sufficient power drains ALL color from an object. So where does that leave us? Simple. We are not actually seeing grey; we are perceiving grey! Look up pointilism. See the pictures? See the colors? Now look VERY closely. Tiny dots. Tiny tiny dots. The eye mixes those dots into pictures... AND colors. basically, when you awaken something you don't suck all the color from an object; you suck MOST of the color from an object. On a microscopic level. The result is something our eyes perceive as grey (but isn't.) If you drain all the color you are left with white. if someone was VERY good at awakening maybe they could pull all the color from small amounts of fabric? Individual threads perhaps? As they'd be pulling more color from a smaller area most of the color should be drained. Because our eyes read this as one color a piece of fabric would appear to get lighter. Say, dark brown to tan? In reality a coat might be threads of dark brown and pale grey, but it would LOOK like a tan. and adding pale grey paint to a brown one is one way of getting tan... Unfortunately neither of those are near me. Hoboken is a train ride away from the city. Toronto is a minimum 8 hour drive with no traffic or stops. Boston is also a few hours away. I can only get to signings that are an hour or so away max. Thanks though!

I actually think he's moved on without noticing. Too exhausted to look it up now, but there is a point in the story where he realizes that he's given her up. To me it read a bit as a mourner waking up one morning and realizing that they went a whole day without thinking of the loss. It also felt to me that Kell does not really believe there is anything in the beyond. As such there is nothing waiting for him there because nothing exists (as far as he is concerned.) So why go? I actually think he may end up in another relationship at some point. Mare is gone. Kelsier has moved on. And I feel that he is aware enough to realize that finding a new partner is not a betrayal of the old. One could even argue that it is a validation.

When you ask about it, would you mind asking about my theory of Awakening and pointillism with regard to why objects turn grey? (Because grey is a color. So this confuses me.) I'd love to go to Hoboken for the signing, but I literally just gave birth (4.5 hours ago) and will probably not be up for the trip... So if you could ask this I would be really grateful. (I have no idea when he will be anywhere near NY again, otherwise I wouldn't ask. Usually he's too far to travel to.)

I actually think that was what, along with the loss of familiar animal life, that was killing them. You can survive being cold far more easily if you are well fed. Loss of body fat would make the effects of the cold worse, never mind all the other difficulties that come with the lack of a proper food supply.

Sounds more like the world where everything is electrified. The Dark One's world I believe.

That was more of a BoM spoiler though, and that board was merged with the regular one a week or so ago. I thought that meant we didn't have to hide spoilers for BoM once the boards were merged?
