  1. The question specified give. My initial thought was that it was asking about abilities. So the spike could do anything that doesn't involve a special ability. Im of the opinion that Kell was spiked in the Cognitive Realm. We know he can be affected there if he thinks he is. I always took option three on that conversation between Kell and Saze. Saze just doesn't want Kell to interfere and cause trouble. Which he would totally do. or 4) Saze got a glimpse of something in the future that told him Kelsier would have to do this himself. Kell's old body still exists; it would just take a bit more work to fix it... I think Saze could have done that if he wanted.
  2. It could. I actually saw it as a board wide ability, but with a long cool down to balance it. Ten turns, maybe.
  3. It may be that the Shard's intent prevents it from influencing its vessel... Now I want to know what the Sliverests and the various Southern tribes believe... I'm also wondering if their are any religions that follow Judaism's view. Basically, male/male is forbidden but female/female isn't (though strongly disapproved of.) Since most religions I know of (real and fictional) say either yes or no to both, it would be interesting to see a fictional faith with the same dichotomy.
  4. A hazekiller would probably be immune to soothing/rioting and have a defense against some other forms of allomancy. Marsh can sense allomantic use. So... Maybe when Marsh uses bronze the opponent is prevented from using allomancy on the next turn? (Since forewarned is forarmed so you would be able to 'dodge'?) I can't really think of anything else. If Marsh is used as a pawn, he promotes to an Inquisitor, as a possible variant. As an attack piece he can gain this status by taking one down. Really not sure about Dox. He's basically a quarter master... Infiltrate, where he cannot be attacked for a turn as he is infiltrating the opponent?
  5. I always interpreted the WoB as being misleading. The spike may not give anything special, but it may do something else. Giving abilities is only one thing a spike can be used for. So I took it to mean that the spike has nothing to do with his feruchemy as that would be special. My belief is that the spike was used to rewrite Kelsier's soul so it 'thinks' there is a connection to the physical realm allowing Kell to transition through the pool. That isn't really giving something, but it is doing something.
  6. I don't think it's op. Since Elend cannot move from check I would be very wary of using it.
  7. Yes, on Scadrial we can have waffles with ice cream and CHOCOLATE syrup. (Chocolate being the most important food group of course. Anyone else want the rank of Scadrial Chocolatier?)
  8. Alexa says the answer is 42 but the question is more complicated...XD hmm... 42\16=2.625...
  9. That's why I think they would ALL be optional. We are giving options and players can pick and choose. I used to have a LotR stratego like that. I'd play with the options I wanted.
  10. I think that was deliberately misleading; powers is only one thing Hemalurgy can give. Since it is really stapling SDNA to the individual it could be doing a lot of other things. For one, the spike has altered the shape of his brain. Also, granting any of the human attributes might not be notable as a 'power' but could have very significant effects. its also misleading in another way; Kell is already Mistborn. Any allomantic power the spike grants would just give him a boost to that power; it's not noticeable with a Mistborn. For someone who didn't already have the power granted it would be very notable. So I read this as saying that the spike does not grant Kelsier any ability he did not already have. To put it another way, the spike has nothing to do with his Feruchemy...
  11. It's a bit complicated. I'll give an example: Vin is check mated by a knight and rook. Ruin is ALSO checking the white king's space. Vin regenerates on Black's turn INTO check, allowing Ruin to remove her. Basically the respawn spot is in check when the opponent is check mated, and it has to remain in check through the opponent's turn until so the piece will respawn into check on your turn. Then you just take the ascended piece.
  12. Bronze + F Zinc?
  13. I know he went South for a bit. I'm not certain exactly when though.
  14. The draw backs could also be subtle. F Iron is easy enough; the body loses its ability to hold itself. The same thing that happens to astronauts. The side effect of being a Crasher could be premature aging. The constant weight shifts and trauma caused by the effects of the pushes could easily have that effect just slightly heightened. There could also be different levels of savantism. On an early level it just translates to tremendous skill. In later levels the skill increases but so do the side effects making it dangerous to try. There could also be a difference between gradual savants and enforced savants. Graduals become savants over long periods due to basic metal usage. They may not even notice. Enforceds burn their metals almost constantly prompting growth which does not allow their soul, mind, and body to adapt. I think the last might be the best solution as people would be far too wary of using the metallic arts if long term use produced such damaging effects. Since that does not appear to be the case either basic long term use does not result in a savant, or becoming one does not adversely effect the individual to the point of inconvenience.
  15. Or the two working together.
  16. :To answer the questions you asked: 1) I have two variants. A: You check the Ascended piece with your Ascended piece + one other. B: you check the opponent's piece. Your ascended is in position to remove the opponent's piece when it regenerates on your turn. (Ascended pieces regenerate on the opponent's turn.) 2) Promote is reaching the opposite side of the board. 3) I would have him revert to a Cognitive Shadow, but it's up to the player. 4) Same as Vin and Preservation. 5)Essentially, but they can use their influence and move and the ability has no cool down. I sort of considered all of these move sets optional. Someone could just use the set for a regular game. All the rules are optional for those who choose to use them.
  17. Personally I always thought the second question was self evident. We all have things we'd like to forget. Personally, I think Kell would love to forget the Pits. When I reread some is Saze's scenes in HoA it seemed as though storing a memory doesn't completely delete it. It seems to leave an echo behind. Memories are stored in multiple forms. So you might remember storing an experience. You might not remember the actual experience but you would remember thinking about those events. Also, storing memories and information may work differently. We really need more information on this.
  18. There is supposed to be a Mistborn in era 2?3? Wax and Wayne messed up the count... But yes, there will be more Mistborn. According to a WoB Allomancy has already reached an equilibrium and will not get weaker. Hoid still has the Lerasium as of the letter writing and is believed to have used it. (Paraphrased, but Brandon was asked if Hoid had used it and replied that we had seen Hoid use allomancy and that was the answer.) Saze definitely knew how to create Mistborn. It's possible both that the genes for allomancy and feruchemy conflict and that Saze is the reason they do so. The existence of a fullborn (what are you up to Kelsier...) might have been a good impetus for that.
  19. I actually picked Elend as the other bishop for the book1 setup because he is mostly a scholar in book one, which makes him a good match with Saze. Another possibility is Marsh. Breeze should probably keep the knight moveset as it would likely ruin the balance of the game if he didn't. Also confuses things. For a book one set up Clubs makes the most sense as the second knight if the player wants to stay close to the story. Spook and characters not being actively used for major pieces can be pawns. They can then promote and gain access to their abilities. If there are no major pieces lost they promote to the piece they can substitute or would have at a later point. (Example: if Marsh is being used as the bishop starter then Elend can be a pawn. If Elend is promoted he takes the position of a lost piece. If no pieces are lost Elend becomes a third bishop.) If OreSeur is a pawn he cannot be promoted. (So OreSeur would be a pawn until Kelsier's Inspiration.) In a book 3 game, Black and White switch. Ruin is the black king and Preservation is a white pawn. Both are ascended and cannot be removed from the board except by another ascended piece. For more difficulty, Ruin can only be removed by an ascended Vin. (If removed ascended pieces reappear at their starting point.) Each side only gets one ascended piece. Preservation has a king's move set but can move 3 squares at a time and cannot remove other pieces (except Ruin in the easier variant.) If Preservation promotes it disappears from the board. This allows Vin To promote. Pieces that Promote to Preservation cannot remove other pieces. They each have unique effects. If Vin ascends pawns gain the burn Atium ability. Vin ascends by attacking Marsh once Preservation is removed from the board. Since Vin ascends Marsh is not permanently removed, but returns after 5 turns. Vin is the white King and Elend the Queen. Vin's moveset in the same as Preservation. Once ascended she gains the Queen's moveset. Ruin can take down othe pieces. He can also influence Spook making him perform an action of Ruin's choice. I was trying to figure out how an ascending mechanic would work before I went to sleep last night and woke up with the above. Hope you don't mind.
  20. If the lord ruler takes Kelsier inspirational sacrifice activates automatically and OreSeur appears on the black king's space. If Vin takes TLR he does not return. This should mitigate some of the OP ness of the piece. Elend should be the other Bishop and Alriane the other knight. Demoux can be the final rook.
  21. I think we shouldn't assume the obvious with that WoB. The way it was worded is making me think that the 'truth' revealed wasn't what we think it is... Runs off to reread BoM.
  22. Firefighters, rescue workers, etc. People are more heroic than we sometimes realize. It's that kind of sacrifice that I was talking about. I don't think Kell is capable of that kind of quiet heroism. I do know many who are in real life though.
  23. He's definitely not the classic anti hero. He has some shades of the Byronic hero, but ultimately I think he is an Unscrupulous hero. He's also a guile hero more than an action hero by nature. After Gemmel he could be both, but his nature is more inclined to guile. He is an anti hero obviously, because an anti hero is a hero who lacks one or more of the qualities of the ideal hero. Incidentally, Vin is a classic anti hero since the defining trait of one is usually lack of confidence/self doubt. Kelsier is a very 'real' character in many ways because his motivations are mixed. Does he want to help the Skaa? Yes, the eleventh metal makes that clear. He does care. Does he want revenge? Of course he does. Does he like the idea of becoming a god to the Skaa. Definitely. Does he want to die to accomplish the first two goals? No. It's why he tries not to think about it... Is he willing to die for the first two? Yes, he is. He'll avoid it if possible though. Kell can be both selfish and selfless and, rather remarkably, can be both at once. It's a very human trait and that's why he feels so real to me as a character. He has performed at least one almost entirely unselfish act though; SH spoiler: What is very interesting to me is that Kelsier starts FE as an unscrupulous hero but ends closer to a pragmatic one. I wonder if which he was when he went South. So what is Kelsier? Flawed, selfish, yet capable of being much more than that. In other words, he's a very human character and therefore relatable. Kelsier seeks to be better than he is, but doesn't always succeed. And sometimes he backtracks. He's arrogant and egotistical, but doesn't actually like himself that much. So my opinion is that he is actually just very human.
