  1. What I meant by self contained is something like, for example, not needing to see a tv show about Klingon culture to watch Star Trek. You learn about it from the humans we're following. So you could theoretically have, say, a Scadrian exploration craft land on Roshar. The world and its inhabitants gets shown to us then from the perspective of the Scadrians. As a reader you could then enjoy Era 4, without having read the Stormlight archive. It would probably be more enjoyable if you had, but you wouldn't have too. Just like you can technically get away with reading Era 2 but not Era 1 in the Mistborn trilogy. I'm not saying it will happen this way, but it could. It would allow Era 4 to be accessible to a wider audience anyway.
  2. Mistborn era 4 is indicated to be a crossover as our Scadrians will be exploring the cosmere. It's one of the reasons why the Scadrians as the Ones Above is a major theory. It could still be self contained though; we'd just see the other worlds from the perspective of the Scadrians - just like in any sci-fi story where you meet new and diverse cultures.
  3. I suspect quite a few of those questions will be answered in Era 4...
  4. Well, we know that steel sight can be pushed to see things that we wouldn't envision as metals... A painting, for example.
  5. Then welcome to the Shard! Have an upvote!
  6. 2 only works if you have a regular cycle. And between her age and the stress they were under, I don't think Vin's was. I find it more likely that she was using some sort of herbs to prevent pregnancy. Bands of Mourning is one of my favorite Sanderson books, simply because it was so much fun to read. It was a nice contrast to SoS (I read them back to back.) After the seriousness of SoS, BoM was a needed breath of fresh air. I've actually reread it several times and I don't usually reread books. It still makes me laugh, even as I search for all those Cosmere goodies (and there are a surprising number.) i suppose I look at it differently because I read the two back to back. Alloy is a blend of humor and seriousness; SoS is probably the most emotionally wrenching, while BoM is the most fun and least serious - which, I feel, is needed after SoS. I suspect TLM will be closer in tone to Alloy, but that's just a guess.
  7. The nobles still had fewer children; this is mentioned. There does appear to be some sort of contraceptive; Alriane and Mare did not conceive during the series either (though Alriane clearly had children afterwards...) Also, as mentioned, two fertile partners does not automatically equal conception. Both were under stress and Vin was active enough and suffered enough physical trauma that she may well have had an early miscarriage she never knew of. Has anyone ever asked Brandon that?
  8. Okay, thanks!
  9. Just checked that: Saze uses zinc to tplot the tragectory of, and to catch, a lamp. In a couple of seconds. It isn't as obvious from the writing, but it appears to be the same thing.
  10. I'm not certain they do see many images. Have we ever seen electrum burned when someone else was not using Atium? Because I thought the multiple images was a side effect of the opponent using Atium.
  11. Thanks!
  12. We actually know it can't be Spook's body; Kell was in the South ten years after the Catecande. Spook would be active in the north for another ninety years. The logistics make it just about impossible.
  13. It can't be Spook as he was elsewhere. It's definitely Kell at this point; Brandon has said too many other things - like Kelsier having an important role in the next two trilogies- for it too really be anyone else. He's also confirmed it by not contradicting or adding caveats to the assumption as opposed, say, to Taln (who Brandon refers to as 'the man who calls himself Taln.') We also do have prior examples, just not using Hemalurgy. The Returned and the Heralds and, to an extent, Tanavast. So what we are left with is how Kell has done what he's done. Is he using his old body? Is he possessing someone? Did he find another way entirely? And so on.
  14. I don't believe it has, but they probably will soon. Modern Era will probably deal with it.
  15. I don't know how much this helps, but Oathbringer's third draft is now at 25%. If that continues we should see the in betweeners show up sometime in March on the progress bar, which should give us a better idea of when the books will be released.
  16. I think the difference is the time between death and return. Wax is only dead briefly - less than four minutes. If his body was intact enough an AED might have brought him back too... Basically, I saw what happened as magical resuscitation, not resurrection. The heart stopping may mean someone is dead, but given the right skills or technologies they can be brought back even in RL. bordering on AU spoilers so, The Returned are dead for several hours before being resurrected, however their bodies seem to remain for the most part. Kell was dead for years and his body a skeleton. So a rather different situation than the others. heralds we don't know enough about.
  17. Not necessarily; unless otherwise specified promoted units just don't get abilities. That could be a viable alternative. As a player I'd prefer that to only being able to gain one particular piece. (I happen to be rather weak with my rooks. I usually promote to a bishop or knight.) My family usually plays that you can only promote a new queen if you've lost the original. If I can't promote to a piece I find useful than I won't bother to put in the effort.
  18. I'm not really sure... Why can pawns only promote to rooks?
  19. That would mean not bringing it up until 2018 though. Since the heralds are Shadows too it feels like that would be important. But that's just me... Can't wait for the next one!
  20. Yes, but the affects of Attica's death on Alcatraz - and the fact that those effects remain - would indicate that Attica stays dead or, if he doesn't, no one has told Alcatraz otherwise.
  21. Look for 'blind' men, or one eyed ones? He'd probably cover it. There are also some forms of investiture that can create illusions. He may use one of those:
  22. That would be amazing to see. Oxygen and hydrogen are not metals, so no, TLR couldn't manipulate them. If they picked up ash though... When is the next cosmere video going to go up? Also, will he discuss Cognitive Shadows at some points?
  23. Actually, the healing is spiritual in nature, filtered through your self perception. So if someone had CF but perceived themselves as having properly functioning lungs they probably could heal the genetic defect. It would just take a ton of gold stores or a compounder.
  24. I actually think that is exactly what the Beyond is; Beyond the cosmere. Whether anything exists there or not is up to the individual's belief system. There isn't really much of a spoiler. It just makes someone's identity more obvious and, personally, I thought it was fairly obvious and was surprised at how many people didn't realize. (I started suspecting right away; I just didn't quite expect it to happen this early.) So if you REALLY don't want any hints read BoM first. If not, read SH. You're not going to be spoiling any major plot points just, potentially, a surprise. Honestly, if you didn't know about a potential spoiler you wouldn't be spoiled at all... (But now you know to look for it... )
