Um...Paradox? Your quote is broken. Spren normally think in terms of ideas, ideals. This is shown mildly in the released chapter three of Oathbringer, where (light to moderate spoilers) They have trouble with abstract concepts such as humor and sarcasm, things which are lies that people know to be such. When they bond with humans, they gain a greater ability to understand these things. Completely unfounded speculation, the Nahel bond is likely symbiotic. The spren get a greater ability to understand the physical world, and the Radiants get supernatural abilities and (this is the part that I am most shakey on) a greater understanding of their chosen ideal, protection or lies or the things that bind men, etc. as well as greater information about the Cognitive Realm and the physical realm by default, such as gravity being less a law and more an 'agreement between friends'. Quite frankly, I have a little bit of trouble with Cryptics being so number-based, given they are liespren. Numbers don't lie. If anyone can help with this particular bit of Cosmere philosophy, I would appreciate it.

Dalinar's Flashback Chapter from Oathbringer
Stormgate replied to Argent's topic in Stormlight Archive
Is there a topic on Kaladin's mental health? Because if not, I would be happy to make one. I might not have much experience with the kind of stuff Kaladin goes through, but nobody said having information on a topic is required to make a thread on it. -
Why Didn’t Renarin Reveal His Radiancy?
Stormgate replied to ivoryblade's topic in Stormlight Archive
You mention his dueling skill, and I think that, if possible, it alienates him more. It gets him into certain social circles, but when he interacts with people inside those circles, it makes their ostracization of him that much more obvious. -
According to WoB, doing that would be part of reviving a dead spren, but something more is needed.

I believe it has been confirmed that Odium uses the same process.

Please be informed that the cookies that some members offer you are disguised metal spikes that they stab through you if you accept a cookie.

Wayne reportedly got a copy of Alloy of Law. After finishing the novel, Wayne examined his life and concluded he acted like an idiot way too much, so he tried making sense. And that is how Adonalsium shattered. Because Wayne.
-
Yeah...you also can't edit the post offering a cookie to say that it's a spike after the Sharder has accepted it. That's the only loophole I can think of. And do you really expect new members to pay attention to the signatures? They probably don't even know what the Dark Alley is, or why they have Hemalurgic scientists as well as bakers.

I edited my post. No more loopholes in that part.

New Kharbranth Art and a Serious Question
Stormgate replied to grantmhansen's topic in Stormlight Archive
Trying to capture Kredik Shaw while the mists are out would be really cool. Just brainstorming here, maybe Elantris? Either before or after the events in the book? Maybe New Elantris? Any/all of these would look awesome.- 33 replies

I think Sanderson took it to mean exactly which Parshendi was holding the Oathstone. From the POVs we have seen, killing Gavilar was a move that the Parshendi were aware of and meant to do. I think that Eshonai's sister held the Oathstone, since she seems to be instrumental in bringing the Final Desolation from Odium's side.

Anyone else have a faint sense of irony that Peter Ahlstrom is a Worldhopper?

make what you will of it (Game)
Stormgate replied to Citadel16's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
They keep popping up and can cause a lot of problems, especially when you are with someone important. Antarctica is like Surgebinding. (Also, how many people are just posting random things and seeing if someone can make a connection?) -
Is it sad that this is what I mostly got out of that WoB? What is Sanderson talking about here? How did he beat us?

Watch, it's going to be Trell.

I would like to speak about the relationship between Honor and Cultivation. The Alethi are extremely concerned about honor, even though it's been corrupted. They don't view the Radiants as good people because they betrayed their oaths, that single act giving all Radiants throughout the entire history of the Orders a bad name. Not only that, but regardless of the Order, the Knights swear to put the strong in front of the weak. While the highstorm is fairly weak before it gets to Shinovar, it is reduced to almost nothing by the time it gets over the mountains. Not only that, but from what little we have seen of Shin culture, they value farming, a trade almost exclusively devoted to the cultivation of plants. They do value honor in certain situations, such as bargaining, telling their buyers exactly what quality of products are being offered on both sides. The Alethi also value cultivation in a similar manner. The Knights Radiant, while mostly focused on honorable actions, also have cultivation in the form of progression in their oaths, Windrunners growing more willing to protect, Lightweavers more able to tell lies that could become truth, etc. The magic systems are probably not nearly as scrambled as the ones on Sel, although I believe I have identified the Devotion and Dominion in AonDor, Forgery, and Dakhor. I don't know enough about ChayShan to guess, though. Sorry about the tangent. Anyway, Cultivation's magic system and Honor's magic system are likely mildly scrambled, with different orders having different levels of Honor and Cultivation in them. Edgedancers, as they probably have cultivationspren, (I noticed that while Sanderson said that Syl was the most pure form of honorspren, he only said Wyndle thought he was the most pure form of Cultivation) probably are not overly concerned with protecting so much as strengthening.

People are talking about some kind of bad guy more dangerous than Odium, while to me, the answer seems clear. Odium was not around as we know it before Adonalsium Shattered, and right now, all we know about the situation is there was a weapon created to destroy Adonalsium which Odium has implemented to Splinter Shards, there was a plan to destroy Adonalsium that failed, and there is a force trying to defeat Adonalsium that is still out there. The third one may be the same thing as the first or second, but until we learn otherwise, there is a force that wants to destroy Adonalsium. That is what I believe is the 'bigger fish' that people don't think is Odium.

'Entering' Shadesmar? Aren't you already there...
Stormgate replied to Turos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Sentient minds are what creates the Cognitive Realm. The Cognitive Realm in various areas likely roughly resembles the geography of the local Shardworld. As for the space between them, there are two explanations I can think of. One is that the Cognitive Realm is like a forum thread. The fewer ideas that are present, the smaller it is. The other is that the people who are aware of space travel might view the space between planets and stars like we do: there's nothing there. So there's nothing in the Cognitive Realm. To put it confusingly, nothing doesn't exist in the Cognitive Realm. -
I view it as zinc makes you Sherlock Holmes, while steel makes you the Flash. Tapping speed does accelerate your mind, but not to the same level. Actually, here's another question. When storing speed, is it like being in a skintight cadmium bubble? What I mean is, you start storing and before you know it, you have been storing for an hour. If not, would that be the case with zinc?

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Stormgate replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
You know you're a Sanderfan when (this part will not make sense to non-Mormons) you learn about consecrated oil and you have to remind yourself that it isn't Invested. -
Waxillium Ladrian?

I just realized the similarities between the Knights Radiant and the various Lantern Corps (green, blue, etc.) They have a certain mindset, a way of thinking, whether it be willpower or fear or hope or whatnot, and they get power. Based on that, they sound like the KR method of gaining power was applied to multiple Shards (Fear, Willpower, Hope, etc.)
-
Awards... I'm still fairly new to the Shard. Please explain the concept.

Would you like to join the Light? The only requirement is to tell an uninformed Sharder about Hemalurgic cookies. I'm even opening up membership to members of the Dark Alley, as long as they always tell prospective victi-I mean subjects about what is in their cookies in the same post as their offer.
