  1. I would like to express my opinion on the upvote system, specifically the downvote. First, I do not believe that many members, especially new ones, are familiar with the system and the policies regarding them, especially the downvote. Up until this thread came up, I viewed the downvote as essentially the average member's version of a warning, telling them that what they did was out of line. I don't believe that I will use the downvote to 'correct' upvote counts that are, in my estimation, too high, especially with the new quota in effect (does it apply to downvotes as well as upvotes? I'm not willing to test it.) In my opinion, there should probably be a part in the Introduce Yourself subforum description referring to the rules. While the subforum immediately below that contains the rules, it may be ignored by new members, as it was for me. That's just my opinion. Also, is there a way to suggest new ranks? I'm not sure what it would be called, but I think that there should be a rank at 42. RAFO, perhaps? (The answer to the ultimate question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.) Not Sanderson humor, but I would get a kick out of it if I were a RAFO. I completely understand if it doesn't get used, either the suggested rank or upvotes necessarily. When appropriate, I see myself as free to offer my suggestions, whether on Sanderson theories or on the format for the website. I don't know what goes on in the planning meetings for the Shard, I just view my suggestions as potential--not necessarily likely--options that could be taken. I'm sorry for rambling, I tend to do that.
  2. Mine has the command to challenge theories. As that is up to my perspective, I usually theorize that I will not be able to defeat any opponent before I run out of Investiture. He calls me on it every time.
  3. Thoughtward is a black spike blade about four feet long and cross-guards. What if Nightblood was blue? I mean, if you painted it, would the color stay? Oh, that's my spren, Bonrel. He lets me into the Theoryweavers of the Knights Awkward and Theoretic. Did you mention irritating? But really, what would happen? I mean, color is the focus for Nalthis, but would Nightblood drain the color (Warbreaker spoilers) I'm so glad I thought to teach Bonrel how to use spoiler tags before letting him post. Color is not confirmed as the focus for Nalthis, you little Splinter. Yeah, the two of them don't get along well. What if both of us are just imaginary, created by Stormgate partially out of boredom, partially for humorous purposes? Now you're just being ridiculous. No comment.
  4. I think that the suggestion is that upvotes in RPs and other nonrelated subforums be given their own, independent upvote system, while the theory boards have another.
  5. Is the entire 17th Shard for some reason unable to figure out the mission of the Light?!?!
  6. They have the only disclaimer that matters for them.
  7. Although, it may be a case of opposites attracting. Actually, now that I think about it, maybe Steris would be better for Wayne, her being very organized and trying to prepare for chaos, while he will be the cause of such chaos. MeLaan and Wayne is just too much. They're almost too much alike. They could be great friends and I think they might, but I don't think there's something there.
  8. You have to go through something that creates an extremely abnormal emotional response in yourself, something that changes how you look on life from that time forward. This theoretically can be a happy emotional response, although I would assume that negative events are more common. The emotional response changes who you are on a fundamental level, cracking your Spiritweb-your spiritual aspect, your personality and such-which allows Investiture to come in. Allomancers, especially in the original series, go through intense torture, almost to the brink of death, to be able to use Allomancy. Anyway, to become a Radiant, not only must your Spiritweb crack, but there must be some 'aspect' of Honor (protection, truth, unification of men, etc.) that you hold dear, something that, especially after the crack in your Spiritweb, shapes what you see as desirable in others, something that shapes everything that you do, until you and that part of Honor are inseparable, and that to go against it would mean to go against everything you are. Sorry, I tend to get philosophical when I talk about Shardic theory.
  9. The cultures in Roshar and probably a lot of the Cosmere are based on Earth cultures, but Sanderson modified it. Horneaters are probably based on Hawaiian, especially with their names. Rock's name kinda looked like Hawaiian. I just realized that Kaladin must have had a bit of trouble with Rock, remembering how Tien loved them. Complete ADD moment. There should be a tag for that...
  10. Have we seen evidence of any Surgebinding abilities in any organization that we know of? Besides the Knights Radiant, of course. We know that Nalan has Surgebinding, but are his 'squires' (can't think of a better word) Surgebinders or proto-Radiants?
  11. Are you capable of making sense, and are you likely to do so on this forum?
  12. And the Theoryweaver strikes again...
  13. That's the part I interfere with. I get there first usually
  14. Autocorrect got it. Raoden.
  15. This thread has been derailed worse than a train hit by the Hulk. Back on topic, anyone who wants to join, just inform new members about the Dark Alley before they are offered a cookie. Don't say the DA is bad, just tell them exactly what the cookies are.
  16. I'm just going to say that you should never be afraid of the word 'possibly' when explaining a 'What if' scenario.
  17. So with a very carefully placed spike, you might be able to get a piece of someone's personality.
  18. For the last time, I'm not attacking you.
  19. Well, you know about the Dark Alley, there's the Newcago Court, the Knights Awkward, there are new additions in the Knightbloods and (much less popular) the Light, of which I am the founding (and I think only) member.
  20. You are not alone, and now, neither am I.
  21. Raided? Or did you already say no on that?
  22. Emphasis on insane. They're to die for.
  23. So, what do you guys think? Voidus and Morzathoth specifically, but anyone can give ideas for events.
  24. This is more competitive and it's smaller. The DA is the kingdom of the dark, this decides their ruler.
