There is an unhelpful question here (sorry the question can't quite be made out but Treledees and VaraTreledees are mentioned): (source)

Perhaps the line between the Windrunners and the Lightweavers has to do with the fact their patron Heralds are father (Jezrien) and daughter (Shalash)?

"Skah"

Just because people know what you mean does not mean the word is correct, people are pretty good at figuring things out from context (if someone says "The Specific Ocean is the largest ocean in the world" we know they actually meant "Pacific"). And you are right, there wouldn't be any problem with it being used for both, if the people in-world actually did that, which they don't. None of the characters *ever* refer to the zombie-like state of the Elantrians as the "Reod" (that I can find) and there are numerous instances of them referring to it as in event in the past, such as here: There *isn't* a word for "is targeted by an incomplete Aon", it is a lexical gap. Here I'm going to go with the usage of "Reod" as it exists in-world. We are operating under a limited amount of information, and in all likelihood won't be able to convince the other. Brandon has said that Selish investitures are "programming-based", which I think means more than just "inspiration". I'd definitely be interested in Brandon's answer to the question "Could someone Soothe the emotions of a post-Reod Elantrian?" I expect you are using a fairly modern computer, yes? In which case not really what I was talking about. I did limit the metaphor to "basic" computer programs not computers (which can do more than one thing at once because they have a ton of micro-processors running different programs in concert but each micro-processor can still only run one at a time). And I would say there is a difference between the Shaod and the zombie-like state of the Elantrians. It had to exist before Elantris was built (as there had to be proto-"Elantrians" to build it and they would have needed to go through the Shaod before they could do so). So it isn't an Aon equation that causes the Shaod, and so it itself is unaffected by the Reod and the breaking of AonDor. The thing that is making them zombies is the giant power-modifying Aon Rao formed by the Elantrian Metropolitan District, this is what is Raoden adds the the chasm-line to. The way I understand it is that the power-modifying Aon was stuck in the "booting-up" phase, but after it could finish the program became passive, no more changes had to be made. It was no longer actively doing anything to the Elantrians, and so "active" Aons can target them. Well it is entirely possible that the postponed effects of that "queued" Aon Ien were lost in the greater effects of "no longer being targeted by an incomplete Aon". But you are right, we don't know enough about AonDor to definitively say either way.

First off a minor nitpick, but I'm pretty sure you are using the term "Reod" wrong. It is the name of the cataclysmic event that caused the creation of the Chasm and the breaking of AonDor. It does not refer to the zombie-like state of Elantrians. Now onto your theory. I'm inclined to think that the inability to target zombie-Elantrians with Aons is more a quirk of AonDor than it is an immunity to Investiture as you suggest. Brandon has often compared Selish Investiture to programming, and while I'm not exactly well versed in programming I'm pretty sure basic computer programs are fairly linear (as in it can't do two things at once). The second has to wait until the first is finished. If you translate this to AonDor, Raoden draws the Aon Ien to heal Galladon and it tries to go heal him and it is like "Wait there is already an Aon acting on this target, I have to wait until it is finished" and so it gets added to the "queue" (which means nothing happens because the Aon acting on him is incomplete so it *can't* finish).

We have absolutely no clue.

Three White Sand Comics from Dynamite, First in 2015
WeiryWriter replied to Argent's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I don't see why he wouldn't, and with WoT he just won't sign the books he *didn't* work on, but he'll sign The Gathering Storm, Towers of Midnight and A Memory of Light. -
I wouldn't say it was premature at all, bendalloy slows time. Normally time progresses at a rate of 1 second per second, let's say the average Slider can compress time with a factor of 8, so they travel through time at 8 seconds per second (so outside the bubble appears to moving at 1/8 the speed). Let's say flaring doubles that and the Slider travels at 16 seconds per second, "outside" will appear to be moving at 1/16 the speed. Now let's look at the case of a Mistborn with duralumin or a nicrobursted Slider, let's say this really magnifies the power it increases it 100 fold. The Mistborn/Slider is traveling at an astounding 800 seconds per second, and outside is moving at 1/800 of "normal", but it is still moving forward. There is no multiplier that is going to make it so "outside" is moving backwards, that math just doesn't work.

Yes if you get rid of the apex predators it leads to their prey growing in number, but I would call that a gross oversimplification. Without a limit to their growth that population will grow to the point where the environment can no longer support it. Say a given area can support 40 chulls sustainably but with predation from chasmfiends there are usually 30 chulls in that area. Now take away the chasmfiends and that 30 chulls are going to reproduce and grow, and they aren't going to stop at 40. Let's say it gets to 80, stripping the environment of all the suitable chull food to the point where it's going to take years to recover. And what is going to happen to the chulls? The population level will plummet. Near where I live we don't have wolves or anything anymore, so there aren't really any predators for all the deer. Usually the local parks/forests have prohibitions against deer hunting but every few years they are opened up to hunters to "cull the herd" in an effort to keep the deer population from growing out of control. There doesn't *need* to be a magical component for this to be a truly horrifying thing. IT IS BAD TO KILL OFF THE APEX PREDATORS. Period. p.s. please don't say "sprens" it's wrong, the plural of spren is spren. p.p.s here is the WoB where he says killing off the chasmfiends is a bad idea, emphasis mine: (source)

Well anything is possible, but bendalloy (even boosted) won't do it.
-
Moved this to its own thread because it was really out of place where it was. Short answer, no. Bendalloy only slows time, it can't make it stop and it can't make it go in reverse. You can, likely, get use it (with duralumin or nicrosil) to get time to go so slow that time appears to stop, but time will still be moving forward. It's like an asymptote, you can get infinitely close, but you won't ever reach it.

Yeah its a total coincidence that has been discussed to death. And it is Aon not Aeon.

Five chapters are in the Altered Perceptions anthology which was indiegogo'd a while back, I don't think it has been announced whether the anthology will be available port-campaign though. I'll tweet at Peter, he might know. Edit: Looks like it is under discussion, if it happens it will be in late September though.

Actually no they wouldn't, Vivenna isn't Queen so she cannot pass on the Royal Locks.

In the original draft of tWoK "Kaladin" did accept the blade and his arc was about him training to be a Shardbearer and stuff. And according to Brandon it was boring, so he changed it. Kaladin's refusal of the Shardblade is incredibly important for his character, and if he hadn't given it up he might not have bonded Syl. Anyway I would really read book 2, there are some reveals there that may temper your frustration.

I think Scholastic just made a better bid when he was shopping it around, I also want to say Tor wasn't interested at that time. Remember this was back before Brandon got signed on to finish the Wheel of Time, he wasn't nearly as popular as he is now. When the first Alcatraz was written the only book that was out was Elantris (he wrote it between TFE and WoA if I remember correctly).

As Kal Dell noted, there are actually quite a few different things going on here. 1. The Shaod is the process by which people become Elantrians. It's an analogous process to Allomantic Snapping. It's a thing that is happening independently of everything else going on, it's just doing its thing. There appear to be three requirements (1) have some Aonic ancestry, (2) be within a certain geographical region, and (3) be particularly devoted to someone or something. 2. The Reod was a cataclysmic event, which occurred 10 years prior to the events of Elantris, that caused the creation of the Chasm. We do not know the exact causes of the Reod, though we do know that it wasn't "natural" and it was not Odium. The leading theory is that the build-up of pressure caused by the uncontrolled power of two Splintered Shards is to blame. 3. The "Breaking" of AonDor was a natural result of the creation of the Chasm. The Aons are directly tied to the geography of Arelon and the Chasm was a significant enough change to the land as to be reflected in the Aons. This is why no one was able to use AonDor, they were drawing the Aons incorrectly. It also means the extant uses of AonDor also ceased to function properly, most notably the Elantrian Metropolitan District. Elantris and its four Gate Cities form a massive Aon Rao that targets the Elantrians and magnifies the strength of the Aons they draw. Which means that after the Reod the Elantrians were the targets of an incomplete Aon, this is what made them into zombies (something similar happened to Dilaf's wife in one of the books Raoden was reading).

Hemalurgical Resurrection? Kelsier Reborn the Worldhopper
WeiryWriter replied to Darkarma's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Um... *cough* -
That is the fastest anyone has ever solved one of my clues... (and yes you are right)

Correct, Brandon bought the rights back from Scholastic (he was never really happy with the effort, or lack thereof, they put into the series, and they didn't want to do the fifth book) and he did sell them to Tor so they could do re-releases and stuff. The website release was an idea because he didn't know whether Tor would want them.

They only created Scadrian humans, everyone else was either created by another Shard (or Shards) or originated from before the Shattering. Humanity first arose on the planet Yolen, which is where Adonalsium Shattered. Ruin and Preservation were, presumably, Yolish and created life based on what they knew.
