  1. Do the shardworlds themselves have an effect on the magics that are created? If Preservation and Ruin had set up shop on a different planet, without other shards being there, would the Three Metallic Arts still have come into existence as we know them?
  2. Hmm, well I still think it is easier to soulcast an item with the applicable gem and thank you, Essence was the word I was looking for.
  3. The "real afterlife." as in the place where Elend and Vin are is outside the Three Realms. Shadesmar is the Cognitive Realm so can't be the afterlife. Though some dead people can stick around in the Spiritual Realm like Kelsier.
  4. I think innate Soulcasters don't need a specific gem to transform its element(?), ie a garnet for blood, but having the gem makes it easier. Jasnah has said she isn't very good at soulcasting organics so she would need an aid when soulcasting blood, an organic substance.
  5. So this is a fairly basic theory. We know that making mistborn is a side effect of consuming lerasium and that actually burning it has a different, unknown effect. A little while ago I was looking at the Three Metallic Arts and noticed that in Hemalurgy, Ruin's magic system, Ruin's metal can mimic the effects of any of the other metals. So what if lerasium, Preservation's metal, did the same in Preservation's magic system. It would add a bit of parallelism.
  6. Well I don't have the quote but Szeth is not a Knight Radiant. I also think Dalinar fits better with Pious/Guiding, but again that's just me.
  7. I think Brandon has said there are more than 16 possible lerasium alloys, so it is possible both ideas are correct. A straight 50/50 lerasium to atium ratio would make "sazedium" which would make feruchemists and a different ratio could make seers. @Turos I thought it was the consuming of the lerasium/lerasium alloys that gave them the allomantic abilities not burning them. I could be wrong though.
  8. I think I would swap those, as gravity is actually a pull and pressure seems more "pushy" to me.
  9. But it is not just the sDNA, it’s the gene. And it is evident that not everyone has it, otherwise everyone on Scadrial would be an Allomancer. Granted they could have added the gene, but why wouldn’t they have given it to everyone? Radiation was the closest word I could think of for this effect, but it is not quite perfect. Unlike actual radiation, it is not completely random; else it could continuously pop up. Also I think it is like the gene for light colored eyes, it happened once and spread. Another thing it isn’t the radiation the “started” the magic system, just what gave humans the ability to use it. I would agree about the not all magic systems are genetic, Hemalurgy was the example I gave. I held off on discussing surgebinding because we simply do not have enough information to make founded decisions. Likewise I didn’t discuss Warbreaker because I have yet to read it. It’s next on my list. While I’m inclined to think they were, that could back up my theory. The Shards would not have been able to add the genes when the humans were created as Wispsy suggested so the genes would have had to develope do to the Shardic Radiation.
  10. By Genetic Magics I mean magics that have a genetic component, such as Allomancy, as opposed to magics like Hemalurgy. So this Theory states that Shards exert a certain radiation upon people occupying the same Shardworld. This radiation causes mutations in the Spiritual(?) DNA that cause the genes to use Genetic Magics. (1) Magic Systems are created when Shards arrive on a Shardworld. I don't have the quote off-hand but this is fairly accepted. (2) Humans gain access to Genetic Magics through mutations in their sDNA casued by Shardic Radiation. Another accepted fact is that some magics have a genetic component, but not all humans on the Shardworld have that genetic component. So likely the "mutations" occurred over time due to the presence of the Shard, or Shards. The Feruchemy "gene" occurred in the ancestors of the Terris people. It is documented that they were an isolated people so the Feruchemy gene did not spread to the rest of Scadrial. The Allomancy gene likely occurred in a population that had connections that led throughout the world. Also Brandon has said that burning Lerasium does not make Mistborn, it is the consuming of it that does so. The Lerasium acts as a concentrated dose of the radiation, causing the Allomancy gene (Similar to Peter Parker being bitten by the radioactive spider). Likewise when the mists are Snapping the 16% in tHoA I think the mists were causing the Allomancy mutation. (3) Magic system genes lie dormant until outside factor activates them. For Allomancy this is Snapping. For AonDor it is the Shaod. These only affect those with the gene. So if a bunch of Fyordell moved to Arelon, several generations past, and they had only procreated with other Fyordell, none of them could be taken by the Shaod as the AonDor gene only exists in the Aonic genepool. (4) Said outside factor is usually in someway related to the magic system's Shard. It has been theorized that Snapping occurs when a person sees death and rejects it, thereby Preserving their life. Likewise, I was reading a thread in the Elantris forum (don't remember which one) and several members saw that those taken by the Shaod showed Devotion to someone or something. Galladon to farming, Raoden to his people, Karata to her daughter, and Taan to sculpting. Here I would like to mention member Aiken Frost as he was invaluable in coming up with this theory.

  12. In my opinion Cultivation is a "neutral" shard, as in it isn't "matched" with another shard. So Honor and Odium could be in a conflict without Cultivation as a part. It just happens they are on the same world.
  13. If I remember correctly, there is more than one possible alloy for each of the allomantic metals. Perhaps one, three to one lerasium to atium, would make seers, while a one to one would make feruchemists...

  19. Actually its night at the moment. Anyways the sentiment. Hello to all of you. I have already started interacting with some theories and have to admit you are all really smart! Anyways I hope to have some fun here.
  20. I do not think that the Shards can't remember their "mortal" names. Its just they no longer think of themselves that way. As Brandon says when a person inherits a Shards power they are the Shard. They would naturally think of themselves and the other Shards as the Shards, not as the humans they once were.
  21. That would make a lot of sense. Then "normal" people that burn lerasium get a concentrated burst of that radiation that causes the Allomantic mutation. So making Mistborn is just a side effect of it being of Preservation.
  22. I really like this theory, but I have some comments. First the regeneration problem. What if no matter how a Shard's power is used, ie Ruin fueling Allomancy, it is still regenerated. That regeneration occurs at the same rate no matter how the power is used. When a Shard fuels a magic aligned to another Shard more energy is required. Sort of like the magic system has a resistance to it. So eventually the Shard will get its power back but in the short term it is weaker than if it had powered a magic system aligned to Itself. This comment relates to Shardic Sentience theory. I do believe that the humans on all of the Shardworlds were created by their respective Shards and that their sentience is due to a "spark" of the Shards inside of them. I also think that Spark may be what makes them sentient but does not give them access to the magic systems. Those do develop over time. Actually no the magic systems exist as soon as the Shards arrived on the planet. What evolved over time is people's ability to use them. Brandon has said the reason Feruchemy was unique to the Terris is that they did not breed outside of their population so the "mutation" that allowed Feruchemy did spread around like Allomancy (which did exist before Rashek went to the Well, it was just considerably rarer). The Allomantic mutation spread but not in any concentration before Lerasium (sp?). The reason BioChroma is still new is because its mutation only occured recently. Edit: These mutations occur in the spiritual DNA not the physical DNA.
  23. Well, I think that the reason they are so docile is that some sort of magic mojo was put on them by the humans, who then turned the parshmen into servants. Of course we don't know enough about the world to say whether or not that is even possible. That spell might have override or subdued Odium's influence on them. As for the Parshendi I would say either they somehow avoided the spell, have overcome it, or Odium just created some new ones.
  24. Can I just say that this theory is brilliant! As to the question about if Odium had created humans. Since sentience is ultimately from the Shards, obviously the parshmen are the creation of Roshar's Shards. Earlier it was mentioned that perhaps Cultivation and Honor collaborated on Roshar's humans. What if the parshmen are Odium's attempt at creating humans, only altered to better match Odium's Intent. It would also make sense in regards to Jasnah's theory.
