Commands do not need to be spoken aloud, though only the God Kings have exhibited this ability. I do not believe that there are three foci for each world, mostly because I don't feel it is substantiated by any of the texts or interviews I have read. Brandon has said that the focus for allomancy is metal, not one of the foci for allomancy is metal.

Theory: The Focus On Roshar Are The Essences
WeiryWriter replied to skaa's topic in Stormlight Archive
Hmm, it's a very well thought out theory. That said I firmly believe that the focus on Roshar will end up being Spiritual in nature. Also, not to be nitpicky, but the focus for Awakening isn't "words" it's Commands. The distinction might be subtle but it is important to remember that speaking isn't strictly necessary to Awaken something. -

I dig it. It makes perfect sense to me, so enjoy an upvote. -
Forging for cheap space travel?
WeiryWriter replied to king of nowhere's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
(BTW this discussion on whether it is possible to soulcast gems that can be used in soulcasting should probably get its own thread) Shallan's quote about how creating gems with soulcasters is "thought to be impossible" reminds me of WoT and all of the things that were "thought to be impossible" that ended up happening. Logically I can see why soulcasters should be able to create such gems but my gut tells me that it isn't going to happen. I just don't think it would feel right. I'd also like to echo what Windy said about "color" being important, ruby and sapphire, both Polestones, are each a variety of corundum. I could see cognitive aspects coming into play, as Kurk suggests, they are "thought of" as different things and so have different effects. Also, Hissss, non-coppermind wiki... Edit: Curses, Ninja'd As for the gemhearts "not being natural" I would say that they are. On Roshar they are a part of life (literally). They may have a magical component but that doesn't make them "unnatural" or synthetic. -
Forging for cheap space travel?
WeiryWriter replied to king of nowhere's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
I like it. The only problem I can think of at the moment is that Forgeries lose power the farther you get from MaiPon. I wonder if there could be some sort of power booster for Forgery like Aon Rao/Elantris is for AonDor. -
Chalklings wouldn't be able to attack the field (which would extend downward from where it was drawn) but they would be able to climb up the walls to the ceiling to attack the Line there. Chalklings aren't constrained by gravity.

Why Joel didn't become a Rithmatist (spoilers)
WeiryWriter replied to blackmagic3's topic in The Rithmatist
On the "Rithmatics being adopted by the Church" point. I would think the Church adopted Rithmatics into its teachings at the very beginning. King Gregory III, the guy who discovered Rithmatics, was the Monarch and as such the head of the Monarchical Church. He could single-handedly make the Church accept it. Then there is the fact that people can only become Rithmatists by participating in the inception ceremony, in an inception chamber, that are only found in Monarchical chapels. -
Gaming the System in Forging
WeiryWriter replied to Kurkistan's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
I'm sorry Phantom but could you find a quote where Shai says bloodsealing is a part of Forgery? I don't remember anything of the sort, in fact I remember her being quite expressive about them being very different things. -
I could see it going either way, but I agree it would be very likely that Syl would show up in a drawing of Kaladin. Of course, only if she was next to Kaladin when Shallan creates her Memory. If she wasn't there then she wouldn't show up. Which is why I don't think she will be a KR detector, during the early days of their bond Syl did not spend that much time with Kaladin. By the time that she did, he knew something strange was up. In my opinion Kaladin and Bridge Four will let it be known that if something strange is happening with spren the person involved should go see them or something.

Gaming the System in Forging
WeiryWriter replied to Kurkistan's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Actually, resealing is, very likely, a part of Forgery. -
You might find this thread useful, it is another thread that proposes allomantic style groupings for the Shards. As I mention in the other thread, I would find it very unlikely that the Shards would use a grouping similiar to allomancy, mostly based on this question. The allomantic groupings were ascribed to them by scholars, and so are not inherent characteristics. I could see Shards being grouped "allomantically" if those groupings were inherent (though I would be kind of disappointed by it) but I find it much more likely that Shards are grouped in some new manner we do not know yet. Nice theory though, liked the visual.

Are there other end-negative Investitures?
WeiryWriter replied to TheOneKEA's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The focus is not the sound, as happyman infers Commands are a Cognitive focus. -
A Kandra's hemalurgic spikes wouldn't stop working if they went off-world, hemalurgy isn't region-locked. It has also been used on other planets.

Wow, thanks. I've been busy the last few days so I'm glad someone has been able to work on it.

Here is the quote saying Kelsier is a sliver. When you are searching the database make sure to search twice, the first just searches the tags, the second actually searches the interviews. As for quotes to refute... I found this about about what the residue sliver's have but Brandon's question does kind of dodge the question. The impression I get is that being a sliver only "attunes" you slightly to the Shard's intent. Edit: Oh, it seems Senor Feesh had that first quote in his post...

I would highly doubt that an atium-lerasium alloy would be better in hemalurgy then the undiluted essence of Ruin itself. I don't think you've argued sufficiently enough to convince me that "atium isn't the master-master-spike everyone thinks it is" The Brandon quote I linked to above proves that atium can steal anything not just allomancy. Brandon has said things in the MAG have been changed to promote a better gaming experience and this is one of those things. I would also doubt that Malatium would be the "feruchemy-master-spike." Why the atium-gold alloy and not any of the other metals that steal feruchemical powers? I would think the aforementioned atium-lerasium alloy would be a better fit.
-
The MAG is wrong in this case, atium can be used to steal any trait.

Hemalurgic spike creation clarification? [Clarified]
WeiryWriter replied to Empyrus's topic in Mistborn
Actually we have WoB that atium can be used to mimic any other spike. This is one of the instances that the MAG has changed how things work in order to make a better game. -
Okay I'm going to start transcribing the Dalinar reading. The Google Doc is here. (hopefully that worked...)

I think Meg meant this page, Dalinar's visions (the one she posted went to the Dalinar article instead)

The Recreance: More thoughts and a theory (***SPOILERS***)
WeiryWriter replied to The Count's topic in Stormlight Archive
Eh, kind of. Brandon has also referred to seons/skaze and spren as "release valves" for the power and about how there aren't enough seons/skaze to diffuse the build up of energy, there are however, plenty of spren on Roshar to serve the purpose. Let's say each seon and spren can control a certain part of their shard's power, there is a limited number of seons so therefore only a small part of Devotions's power is controlled. There are however many more spren so the bulk of Honor's power is controlled. Does that make sense? I think I did a poor job of explaining that... -
Shardic Force and Shard Grouping Theory
WeiryWriter replied to Chromium Compounder's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Here is another relevant quote. www.theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=977#169 I would also like to say, since I don't think I've made it clear at this point, I do believe that the Shards are grouped in some way. I just don't think it will be the same as the Allomantic metals. -
There are a couple coppermind articles you might find useful for this. The Chapter Summaries The Chapter Headings The Chapter Epigraphs

On the Blushweaver remaining colorful thing. Correct me if I am misremembering this, I haven't read Warbreaker in quite a while, but wasn't she killed? I thought the color-draining only happened if Returned "gave-up" their divine breath, she didn't so why would her color be drained?
