Lesson learned. Actually, we acknowledged that from the start, but knew we'd have little or no chance if we didn't work together to a degree, and knowing our identities was all El Len really needed.

Ooh, that's a truly interesting idea. I think most have been assuming the Broken One is Honor or Odium, but Adolnasium would be fascinating. Because of the way everything's been set up, I don't think that would take away from SA being a standalone series either. IIRC, Adolnasium has already been name-dropped. I don't have any particular holes to shoot in it, though others might, so for now, have an upvote!

The ones that refused actually escaped, though whether they survived the storms colliding is uncertain (and certainly it wouldn't sit right if they all did, but the way it was set up implies some will have survived). Brandon has hinted that with effort, they could resist the change, but I would assume only that little group of Parshendi could; Parshmen don't have the power of thought to refuse the transition.

Except it doesn't when it's still being converted within the states to electoral votes. It might not work out like I'm saying, but there are very few states that are all blue, and a number that are almost all red. If the popular votes cast for Clinton had all come from a few states, she'd only get the portions of those states' electoral votes, but the ones that are almost always completely red would go to Trump. It's a matter of where the votes are coming from, not strictly the popular vote numbers, even when it would seem to be translated directly into the electors. Edit: I'm thinking of this map. That system should actually still help account for the population compressed into the cities that tends to vote for the Democrats, and provide representation for the counties/states that usually vote Republican.
-
@Erunion, yeah, I can agree with that, I think. Incidentally, my impression is that Trump might actually have won by more this time if that was the case. He wouldn't have lost votes in many states (the swing states, but it wouldn't have been all of them), and he'd have gained a bunch in states like California and New York that just sent all theirs to Clinton.

Thanks, fixed it. I would have fixed my numbers to match, but that would have messed up everything after that, so I just swapped the names. Hurt Preservation, heal Honor. 3. Preservation: 25 6. Honor: 25

EDIT: Sorry, really didn't realize this was a double post. Admins, feel free to combine it if that's best. Alright, want to get some thoughts on combining some of the mechanisms I talked about so far. How about a Reckoners setting with Regulars and Reckoners (no Epics, at least not exactly), set in Newcago or a similar city ruled by a powerful Epic with underlings. This Epic has ordered his subjects to rid him of the nuisance that is the Reckoners, and therefore they must imprison one or more people each day or suffer his wrath. Any cycles in which at least one person is not jailed, a player will be randomly killed (could be Reckoner or Regular). Those who are imprisoned are not out of the game immediately, but lose the ability to use any abilities they may have (with possible exceptions depending on the roles in play). The Reckoners can win by finding and exploiting the Epic's weakness, done by collecting items. Each cycle, they'll have the option of receiving one of ~15-20 items, or instead receiving a clue about the nature of the Epic's weakness or about his/her past. They will need to use two of those items in tandem to kill the Epic, so they will also need two members to survive in order to win. EDIT: That means that once they have at least two items, they can select two of their items to try together against the Epic, in addition to other actions that night. If they pick the right two, they win. They can go randomly, but there will be enough items to discourage that approach. The Regulars win if the Reckoners win, but they lose if the Reckoners neither win nor are imprisoned before the Regulars are all killed or imprisoned themselves. To foil the Reckoners (and keep the town from just openly coordinating with them), the Epics will have a few Minions out amongst the town, who will be aiming both to identify and get rid of the Reckoners, and to steal the items they need. Each round, they'll have the chance to take one of the same items the Reckoners would access, or to follow one of the other players. When they follow a player, they get to find out what they did that night (haven't decided what level of detail would be appropriate). If they determine that person is a Reckoner, they can then turn them in to the Epics during the next day's turn, but if that person turns out not to be a Reckoner, the Epics will kill the Minion in retaliation. That discourages them from simply trying to turn over random people until they find the Reckoners. There would likely be at least a few special roles. For instance, I could include Gifters, who could be working for any of the teams, and can grant abilities to other people for one cycle at a time (that person would be told what their new ability is, but not who granted it, to keep the Gifters safer from discovery). If they are attacked, however, they could change sides and become a minor Epic Minion, and their powers would be granted to all the Minions instead. The Reckoners and Minions would both be secret factions. The Reckoners would have a doc or shared PM so they know who the others are, but the Minions would not (I think). Jailed players can still talk via PM, but not in the thread (as if people are visiting them in prison). I don't think that has any hugely broken mechanics, and it's a nice different style from a typical game (particularly since the Reckoners faction can cause the Regulars to also win with them, and doesn't have to eliminate them). Anyone want to point out the glaring flaws I probably missed, though?

Well, the inherent limits are that it only works with Connection to your future, and that you don't get knowledge of that future, just a sort of guidance to the best future for you (in whatever timeframe, most likely only moments ahead).

To be fair, it's only confirmation that Khriss believes Yolen is still around. We've seen her be wrong in the Ars Arcanii, so it's possible she's wrong there too. I think you're right that it still exists though, since we have confirmation that Frost is not a worldhopper, and I believe that he's from Yolen as well.

theory The Red Eyed Immortals on Scadrial
Jondesu replied to VirtuousTraveller's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Probably because we have (mostly?) confirmation that there is no Shard on Threnody. It's possible it could be related to a Shard somewhere else, but that would seem to be fairly unlikely based on what we've seen previously (though it's been speculated that there was one on Threnody at some point in the past, who has now moved on to a different location). -
I think Paul Bettany would would actually be better. He's ridiculously good at roles along those lines (I love him as Vision, but he'd almost be closer to his performance as Chaucer in A Knight's Tale, probably).

Did Leras himself intentionally create the beads of Lerasium that were left near the Well of Ascension, or did someone else (a previous user of the Well, or Rashek, for instance)?
-
I would also think that virtually confirms that there were others that used the Well, but not that they did anything as drastic as moving the planet like Vin, Rashek, and Sazed all did (IIRC, Vin didn't push it closer or further from the sun, though, just rotated it, so I'm not sure that would have registered in the star charts, nor would there have been much in the way of records before Sazed fixed it anyways). Other users may have been equally insidious as Rashek (perhaps there was a reason that Alendi and his culture were more advanced than the Terris, and even why there were fewer Allomancers in that time, if perhaps there had been more at some other point in Scadrial's history). Perhaps one of the previous users of the Well even created/distilled the Lerasium while they were there, if they had enough knowledge about what the power of the Well actually was.

That gave me an idea. What if Chromium Feruchemy allows you to connect (when tapping) or detach (when storing) Spiritual Connections to your own future events? Time is mostly irrelevant in the Spiritual Realm, and while the future isn't set in stone, we already know that it can be partially seen and predicted through the Spiritual Realm, via both Atium's ability and the scenes showing how the Shards do just that. By making or severing those Connections only in the Spiritual Realm, you wouldn't Cognitively understand the results, at least immediately, but it would guide you to the best of the possible futures determined by those Connections. Sort of like if Atium just guided you to the best move instead of showing you the shadows.

Heh, I love it Jefry. Kinda like Dr Strange's Cloak of Levitation, sounds like. Also, I promise to only kill your character if it's absolutely necessary. Or fun. Or I feel like it. Probably.- 980 replies
