Might just be me remembering high school chem because I'm younger, but I figured that for the purpose of Harmonium, it would work within the electron configuration table. Where Preservation electrons were Up, and Ruin electrons were Down, or somesuch similar to this. Or would that break the balance because of the want for Ups and then Downs?

Reddit: Stormlight Three Update #6
The One Who Connects replied to Argent's topic in Events and Signings
I still feel that Odium would have future sight ability, maybe not on par with Preservation, but far better than Ruin. It's all about "what's in a name?" Ruin wants destruction. He doesn't care what, he doesn't care about how, etc.. He wants to break things and he wants to break at the first possible opportunity.. Odium is hatred. Hatred is a breeding ground for learning patience. Rage wants to destroy, Hate waits for the best moment to destroy. He's willing to wait for millennia, biding his time until he finds the perfect opportunity for his victory. -
Benefits of Multiple Magic Systems

If by "the second" you mean my link number two(leeching metalminds), I just looked through the whole thing, and didn't find anything definitive on the subject. Lots of other fascinating tidbits though. Edit: Wow, did I really start perusing it 4 hours ago? -

Shardplate and a prediction for Oathbringer
The One Who Connects replied to Tarion's topic in Stormlight Archive
He later lessened that one to something that could potentially be done with a Duralumin Pull. However, Duralumin boost is still up there on the power scale, so your example holds. Also, I found the Voidbringer WoB. (Entries that contain the word stormlight, and Ctrl+F searching for the word "Hold") Slightly shortened for clarity. -
While I agree with you that making Nightblood a spike would be.. messy to explain and all, there was an actual response to that premise. Nightblood, and subsequently normal Shardblades, cannot be used as spikes because they are already "full" of Investiture.

I like the idea, but there are 2 issues I have would about this. 1) the sword amplifies the wielder's bloodlust causing him or her to slaughter anyone nearby and then commit suicide with the blade. This is separate from consuming the spark of life, so I imagine that Odium's champ could only hold it for so long unless they were in an enormous mass of people all rushing towards him. 2) Once drawn, Nightblood becomes incredibly powerful. Its voice becomes overpowering. Insert debate over whether Nightblood or Odium would have the stronger mental control over the wielder.. I don't think the blade was created during the battle, because the knowledge of that would be very difficult/near impossible to hide by only killing Shashara. This next one is personal preference, but I don't think "Scholars" would try something like that outside of a controlled environment.

Benefits of Multiple Magic Systems
The One Who Connects replied to hula's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Here's One (May 22nd, 2015) And Here's Two (Feb 17th, 2016) I will say that I remember hearing somewhere that this could be done, but only if they were actively tapping the metalmind when it happened, but i cannot find it at the moment. I found the WoB @Yata, but you ninja'd my response. -
The way it was meant to work sounds familiar, but I don't think he mentioned taking Breath by force... I'll have to reread yet another book :/ As Spool said, these two statements are not the same thing. Awakening Metal is just like awakening rope or cloth, just more difficult to do, and a more durable material. Nightblood-like constructs (Type IV Entities) is awakening anything (metal, rope, cloth) in such a way that it develops sentience. And what that means is that a Type IV can be made at a much lower Heightening if the correct commands are known. They would not be as useful in battle since they aren't metal and/or swords, but if the consumption of Investiture and the granting of uncertain "powers" is an inherent quality of a Type IV, then Vasher made the correct decision. Side note: I'm directly arguing the Coppermind page now since it's old, but one quick thing about Kalad's Phantoms. They lack the sentience required to make them a Type IV, where they are currently placed on that page. They are Lifeless, which should make them Type II Automatically. Would you say that is correct @Spoolofwhool?

This goes into 5 a little bit, as it deals with soulcasting. Roshar was "specifically grown by Adonalsium," and is one of the worlds with the largest portions of his ambient investiture. That investiture is in the form of Spren though, and not Aluminum. Secondly, since they soulcast it, would that not imply it is a relative rarity on Roshar? Ah, but the number 16 comes directly from Preservation himself. Meaning that if Aluminum was not part of the set, as it is a God Metal, then Harmony somehow didn't inherit that information when he took Preservation. It doesn't sit right in my head, especially since he learned about Cadmium and Chromium when he Ascended. Secondly, while Duralumin could be written off as a God-metal alloy like Malatium in your theory, Nicrosil and Chromium(which largely mimic the effects of the two) can not be discarded in this way.

Movie Adaption of the Way of Kings
The One Who Connects replied to Nashan’Elin's topic in Stormlight Archive
Considers people who binge watch the original 8 harry potter movies in one day... But yea not all people like long movies. The fact is that LoTR and Stormlight are big books. It is natural for them to be big movies. Well, Return of the King is nearly 4 hours according to the DVD tin, so there is some precedent for long theater movies. Do you think they could make it work in 4 hours? -
Adapting Mistborn: The Final Empire for Film
The One Who Connects replied to Jofwu's topic in Mistborn
I agree with Spool. Option one is the better of the two. I don't like having it be the stealing the logbook scene, because that would undermine Sazed rescuing her and her subsequently becoming curious about his powers. On the other hand, while the mists are literal ex machina, her usage of them is a matter of willpower, she reached with an inner strength she didn't know she had. The strength to pull on the power of the gods themselves. If there was some way to get the audience to understand that mists=power of a god without outright saying it, then that could all work out without too much trouble -
Adapting Mistborn: The Final Empire for Film
The One Who Connects replied to Jofwu's topic in Mistborn
Honestly, I think we all expected the chapter epigraphs to get cut, in Mistborn and in Stormlight. At least in Mistborn, they are plot relevant so I agree with you about having a voiceover. Probably just a short reading, the important segments and all, etc. After all this time, I never considered that Alendi and TLR would have a different voice... good point -
Brandon has said that you can store A-Pewter strength in a Metalmind, but at that point you may as well compound, so hopefully that helps answer your question

Do we have any evidence for any of that? I've read WoR twice and I don't recall seeing anything that would indicate that the oathgates vibrate or that the plains were created by those cymatics vibrations. I have never heard anything of this relating to the Oathgates and Vibrations, so I will echo the request for a Source. For you Dunkum: Shallan noticed that the Shattered Plains followed a pattern, which like Kasbal's demonstrations about the Dawncities, led us to Cymatics. As far as I know, we have yet to determine how the plains were broken in a cymatic way, but it is highly likely that they were. Khyrindor: Most popular theory that I've seen has to do with the Dor being in a realm where space constraints are a thing, thus putting pressure on the land until.. boom. However, I do not see how the Plains are a natural occurrence of the Oathgates. It just does not fit, as the other cities/areas that contain Oathgates are not shattered in the same way. I'd like to hear your logic on this though, as it seems like a good source of discussion

Super-Surgebinder (hemalurgy)
The One Who Connects replied to Steeldancer's topic in Stormlight Archive
It certainly would be a sight to behold. However, a Mistborn has a slight advantage in that each power is fueled by a different metal, while every power the Surgebinder has draws from the same singular fuel reserve. Although, the potential ability combinations from all 10 Surges... -
Adapting Mistborn: The Final Empire for Film
The One Who Connects replied to Jofwu's topic in Mistborn
Oh this. I'm used to people using Part/Act largely interchangeably so I didn't make that connection. I thought you meant part 2 of the book because, quite conveniently, your "Act 2" statement mentions both the Venture Ball and a training heist for the one on Kredik Shaw, which also takes place in Part 2. I am somewhat curious why you put Parts 2, 3 & 4 in Act 2. That basically makes Act 1 translate 8 chapters+prologue, Act 3 deal with 5 chapters+epilogue, and Act 2 have to do something with the remaining 26 chapters of the book. It just doesn't feel like a logical split point to me. Here's hoping I finish this edit before you see the post: I'd organize it a little differently, just to make it more even. Act 1: Parts 1 & 2 (15+P) Act 2: Part 3 and 1/2 of Part 4 (15) and have Act 3 handle the rest (8+E) The Split points would be when Sazed brings Vin back from Kredik Shaw(Part 2 end), right after the Vin vs Lady Shan fight(Chapter 30 end), and then the rest of the book I like this idea, but I'm debating whether it would work better as small scenes in a montage or some of the more important scenes from the Balls and Training in a back and forth format. I do somewhat agree with you here, but I think that it might be on purpose. After all, she only really gets the will to act after Kelsier dies. It feels similar to what happened to Coulson in Avengers. They were disparate figures doing their own thing until he fell, which drove them into action. She is still a little out of the loop, until she realizes that her world is literally crumbling around her. -
Adapting Mistborn: The Final Empire for Film
The One Who Connects replied to Jofwu's topic in Mistborn
The movie would have to develop their relationship somehow beyond what we see in the book, and cutting balls is going to make that more difficult. Either of you can feel free to remind me of the proper order of events, as I have not read the book in a long while. Perhaps some sort of montage-esgue thing could be done. Have Act 2 play out normally, since the only big scenes are the Ball at Keep Venture and Kel & Vin trying to break into Kredik Shaw. For Act Three, you could have smaller scenes: Sazed translating the Journal, Vin talking to Kel about Mare, a shortened Ball at Keep Elariel (no dancing scene, get called to Lady Shan's table first) she left this party in a rush anyway iirc. Kel's "informant" chapter, Marsh's seeking lessons, small snippet of Kel/Vin reading the journal(Alendi voiceover) ... um... jeez lots of stuff happened in Act 3 -
You are misinterpreting the various "only" used on this thread. Of metals not in the stomach, only a piercing would count as in the body, otherwise you'd burn the iron in your blood. A compounder can only burn a metalmind that is piercing their body unless they somehow break/melt it down into swallowable chunks for the same reason: inside the body
-
They'd have to overcome their own cognitive perception that the metal is not in a burnable position, but in essence they could technically do this. There's a WoB floating around somewhere that if a Leecher were to drain someone it would burn out a metal piercing so it has been extrapolated that, since it is inside the body, any other Allomancer could do the same. Vin lacked the cognitive understanding that the metal could be affected, and as such it did not burn out when she used Aluminum/Duralumin. The fact that it was a Hemalurgic Spike might also have something to do with this, but I'm not sure that alone would work against something like Aluminum. Edit: Since I didn't technically answer your question, only piercings work because they are partly inside the body which is what matters for Allomancy.

It appears that I was remembering something from a different discussion when i said "reasonable doubt." That topic brought up somewhere that the passage of time may have weakened/taken away Herdaz/Horneater ability to change forms like their Parshendi ancestors, assuming they could ever do that, so I meant it in the sense of that more than in the sense of Lift's parentage. melding similar discussions is an issue I have here and there
-
Not even counting Spool's comment that he later points out that "a group of people can be called a force," he has stated that there's an argument to be made that Harmony is the strongest thing in the Cosmere. If an anti-Adonalsium did exist, it would have to be similar to/less than 1/8 of Adonalsium's power, which doesn't seem feasible as a threat

I don't know what the other portion of parentage is, but the Natan people have Aimian ancestry. Source So now there's reasonable doubt, as it were

how was aimia invaded in the first place?
The One Who Connects replied to king of nowhere's topic in Stormlight Archive
while the wetter climate holds and Aimia is an island, there is the slight issue with your statement in that Aimia is on the west of the Shinovar Mountains, so if a Highstorm actually made it there, it would not be supremely strong and it is entirely possible that Aimia is more combustible because it is safer from storms. But yea, people would still probably have to bring some fuel, if only to accelerate the fires
