  1. I found it. Relevant passage in bold.
  2. Because doing stuff that isn't necessarily the "logical choice" seems like a facet of Hoid's MO On a more realistic note, alloying for a specific power would probably make that power stronger than it would be as 1 of 16 as a full Mistborn with the same amount of Lerasium. It's all based on what powers Hoid considers useful for his purposes.
  3. Granted, have your sandwich. I won't even do anything to it, it's just a normal sandwich. Your bane is that you are too paranoid about what we might have done that you don't end up eating it. I wish for.. I wish to be clever
  4. I'm pretty sure that they could still access the old Rhythms. Most of them anyway. Eshonai could still attune the Rhythm of Peace while in Stormform, although it sounded like screaming or somesuch. Additionally, Stormform had replacements for some of the Rhythms. Craving took the place of Anticipation, Ridicule for Amusement, and so on. On the other hand, Stormform brought entirely new Rhythms: Fury and Spite. So there may be some that are locked out while in certain forms. And if Odium took direct control, like Ruin did with Inquisitors, then they might be forced into certain Rhythms
  5. Given the third Hoid/Allomancy related WoB that he "did things to get people to react a certain way" or similar wording, he may have alloyed some of it for specific powers. I do like the idea of him being a somewhat-weaker Mistborn though. I don't think anyone's suggested that specific scenario before
  6. In addition to what Spool has said, the Radiants already existed before 9 of the Heralds abandoned their duties. Jezrien is on the record stating that "They[Mankind] have the Radiants. That will be enough" -Way of Kings Prelude
  7. {Head down, glancing back at that one time I thought I could be a writer} A thing that I did was starting big and working my way downwards. I was just some middle-schooler at the time, so my "continent" was a glorified oval, but I came up with nations and gave them a castle city and made them pegs on my map. Then I came up with some lore objects, a Shrine here, a mountain pass there, places that had historical significance to my story. More pegs for the map. I placed a city near an oasis in a desert, forcing empty space on the map. Forests and mountain ranges came later, around when said project got shelved, so there isn't too much more. But a good sign of when to stop is when you start running out of room on the map. Make a world map with simple pegs, and go into more detail on zoomed in sections if you want/need Of course, this was all before I found Sanderson's books, back when I could set realistic worldbuilding goals... Now we all want to go super specific on everything.. how do they grow their food, what kind of inter-nation market can you create, what sort of legal ramifications are there on piracy, and all that, stuff that you don't necessarily need. Edit: Best advice I can give is not to start small, but to start simple. Set up the basics: names, places, a little bit of backstory, and start writing your story. If you start hitting walls(too repetitive, need more places, etc..) keep the draft open, but go back to the map and add in some new details. Don't go all in from the start and get overwhelmed. It's good enough to know what's a few miles from a river without needing to know what's 50 feet from it.
  8. That's how their Spren operate, using truths. But as Brandon has put her "a level above" Kaladin at the end of WoR, it is assumed that they have 4 truths, rather than 4 Oaths. Another thing that is based on the first 2 that you linked in the spoiler tab, Shallan made it to whatever point was needed for her to use a Sprenblade. The horror/shame or other strong emotion of what happened back then is what made her regress, basically having her pushing away from the bond and what happened from it. She had to do her truths again to reinforce the bond, just as Kaladin apparently did before reviving Syl.
  9. I know it's a bit of a necro, but there is an answer to your theory. Investiture from Honor. I feel that there was something about Honorblade Efficiency recently, but I cannot find it
  10. This is a different interpretation of the stars blinking out, but good catch nonetheless. If it symbolizes specific planets, then it's likely Ashyn and Braize, the other two planets in the Rosharan System.
  11. Good rule of thumb is to put stuff like that in a quote of it's own, to keep the formatting separate. All else fails, there should be a "remove format" button you can click to clear up selected text. I say should b/c I don't know if you are on mobile or if mobile has the button
  12. I swear I remember reading a WoB that Honorblades being less efficient was a thing that they did, regardless of it they were being wielded by the Heralds or regular mortals. What with the recent confirmation that the Heralds were powered by Honor (4:22), I wanted to clear this up once and for all. I remember reading it somewhere, but my searching has come up with nothing so far. Both on Theoryland and on Reddit. Bottom line, I want to know if someone else remembers reading this or if I'm losing it this time
  13. You should check the wiki. It's nowhere near up to date on some things, but it's still got some tidbits most of us don't remember
  14. They. The simplest gender neutral term in the English language is "they" Make it clear you are talking about a singular person, rather than a group and that's all you need. Jaddeth is mentioned in the Do-Kando, the holy book that spawned Shu-Keseg. This book, like the religions it spawned, are from after D&D were splintered. Here. Which means that no matter how old this Jaddeth figure is, they only became a relevant figure afterwards. Ok.. allow me to dissect this last one.... prepare for a slew of quoteboxes.
  15. Here. He does not specifically say that they are "the only" but he does say only Odiumspren are welcome. This implies that if there are other spren there, it likely isn't by choice (at least, in my opinion. that's what he's saying)
  16. I like the thought put into this, but just as option 1 says that he didn't know it was Helaran, option 4 should cover the possibility that he did not know "Brightness Shallan's" last name, and thus didn't make the connection. He let Kaladin live, which came back to haunt him. This speaks much about his potential to leave loose ends, so I can see him looking into connections to the secret societies before doing the obvious "inform the family of their loss," especially since his cover story shows he didn't have to.
  17. Good catch on the Midnight Essence line, forgot all about that. Fair enough on your interpretation of Brandon's words, I guess we both read it too quickly the first time Well, I guess we can agree to disagree if you want. It made sense in my head when I wrote it, I just didn't really explain it that well. The lightning provided by Stormform isn't Voidbinding, so it seemed like it had to be an inherent ability of that Form. A boost over things like Warform, but not expressly "dark magic" per se. Something to make the them want the form, take it willingly, so that Odium can assert control over them later if he needs to. Humanity is a warlike culture, and they're more militaristic by necessity because of the Desolations. It was only a matter of time before someone else made the Parshendi -> Voidbringer connection and tried to hunt them down (possible similar discovery for the Scouring of Aimia? off topic, sorry) All Odium/the Unmade would have to do is offer them an edge, a Form of Power. A chance to win their war swiftly, a chance that they took in WoR. All societies are filled with different people, different opinions. Someone will always be willing to take the power. Even the good guy who only wants to protect his people. He accepts the power, joins the battle with his Warform brethren, and is something like a Shardbearer among normal men. Pushing back the enemy, attaining victory, being a symbol for hope in this case. Suddenly everyone wants to be a hero like him, and lo and behold: they can. All odium has to do is offer the hero the power to save his people, wait patiently as others take up that same power, and suddenly he has an army that joined him willingly. They were deceived of course, but that's how the trope goes. "Failure breeds innovation, but success leads to mass production."
  18. Well.. IIRC so far the "Ten Deaths" have just been a phrase, not something we have really seen as something, so they are only out on technicality. Same with Thunderclasts, we've only seen one die and one be (born?) Humans doing Voidbinding, as you said there is little to no foreshadowing that it was ever a thing, and the 1st WoB provided by Green Hoodie Mistborn says that Humans are not good at bonding Spren in that way. This implies that Human Voidbinders would be quite rare, not a feasible way for Odium to raise an army. As for the Listeners not Voidbinding, consider the stanza in the Listener Song of Winds about Stormform: Bold added. We know that Stormform can create the Everstorm, but per the Stormfather(and/or Tanavast himself) it's an old design, but newly created. Implying, to me at least, that this is the first one that they have made. How else can this form bring the gods their night, which is presumably a reference to a Desolation? Stormform could merely be the first, the taste, to get them hooked. (gateway drug references... oh joy :/ ) Once they are under his control, he brings in the proper Voidspren. The Song of Secrets mentions Decayform, Smokeform, Nightform, maybe others. Decay seems like Division, similar but different. Nightform has future-sight, as we believe Truthwatchers do..
  19. As for your new idea Ferumancer, it isn't where I thought you were going but I do like the idea.
  20. The changes, as I recall, still would put F-Savant as a no. It was more along the lines of Wax becoming a Savant of his "twinborn power" in some sense. There's a thread around here somewhere that better explains it. "Caution, Potential changes to Savants Spoiler" or somesuch
  21. As Blightsong said, the two are not stated as being on the same level. And, merely bonding with a KR Spren does not count as Surgebinding, nor should merely taking in Stormlight. Surgebinding should refer to the active use of Stormlight to use one of the 10 Surges, while having a Nahel Bond and being Invested should be the passive terms for having a KR Spren Bond and holding in Stormlight, respectively.
  22. Not in the way that we commonly understand it. There is no large influx of an external power, so you don't strain the spiritweb the way other magic systems do. Probably the best option, all things considered This could be.. interesting. We know that having a Hemalurgic Spike gives you a weaker ability than having it naturally, but given how Feruchemy functions, we never really reached a consensus on what that would mean. Same with adding onto the existing power, it seems /= to how Feruchemy works
  23. I distinctly remember people being shot down in the past by Brandon's WoB that we have not seen Voidbinding yet, so I'm inclined to disagree on this point. Granted, this chart also meant nothing at the time that was said, so... if we follow the logic that the "surges" on this chart are in fact void-surges, what pairing would make the most sense for creating a storm and/or lightning?
  24. Vin wasn't technically a "new" shard, per se. And the magic system was unchanged by her Ascension, so I imagine that her Godmetal would still have been Lerasium, as she was still Preservation. She might've ended up renaming it, but I don't think that the metal would actually be different. If someone has a definite answer, feel free to correct me
  25. I am inclined to agree, because it seems out of place that nobody has figured a way to do it. In Era 1 sure, but Era 2? I can't imagine that nobody has tried to do it, so I am left with the fact that all who have tried, have failed. Logically, this means that it is probably hard to figure out, but simple to do once known, like Compounding. After all, only 5-ish people actually "figured out" how to Compound: The Lord Ruler, Marsh(helped by Sazed's theory on how TLR did it), potentially 1-2 of the Ruin Inquisitors, and whoever taught it to modern era Scadrial(assuming it wasn't in Sazed's Book..)
