The Ten Deaths, Voidbinding, and Nightmares
The One Who Connects replied to ccstat's topic in Stormlight Archive
While I like this idea, it is entirely possible that our resident Ars Arcanum writer is making an educated guess based on the prevalence of 10 on Roshar. We have not yet seen Voidbinding, so they may not have found a way to test/prove how many levels there are yet.- 14 replies

He is on Braize, but he can affect all 3 planets. Was it? Well that's unfortunate for the discussion. I'll go have a look for this theory then. I like this metaphor, and am curious if you believe that this WoB can work with your metaphor. If the Oathpact is doors that only open from outside, I feel that leans a bit toward his inability to leave being a "direct result" of that.

A huge bunch of mistborn and cosmere metal questions
The One Who Connects replied to Fluffy's question in Cosmere Q&A
That gave me an idea to explain the reduced awareness thing, still a bit faulty but... If increased connection can simulate a long term friendship with someone you've recently met, then the opposite should hold true. Reduced connection would "sever" (suppress?) long term friendships and even short term ones with new people, which could dull the sense that someone's face/voice is familiar, so they become yet another "face in the crowd" and you are less likely to recognized and/or paid much attention to -
Identity of Trell and Senna wonderings(secret history spoilers)
The One Who Connects replied to Kolfire's topic in Mistborn
Fairly sure it'll give you a notification since I've quoted you in the post, but here it is just in case. Odium/Autonomy Connection, and the Red Mist My web browser is really glitching out at the moment, so if that's somehow a dead link, I apologize. I'll log off and back in to see if that fixes it -
This is a continuation of a discussion from this thread, as it got too far off the original topic. Source But then there is also this, which implies that he somehow could take them both on himself, at least for a little while. I am having difficulty finding it, but I swear that I read it somewhere. Give me a little while longer, and I may find it. This was back when the idea was that the haze was a representation of Harmony keeping something out, not that it was what he was keeping out. The piece of Ruin was the extra power bringing Harmony out of Balance since Preservation put more of his energy into humanity. Sazed needed a use for that destructive power to keep himself in harmony, so it was a logical idea to use it as defense against incursion. I didn't mean to imply that the piece of Ruin was the bad guy, so I apologize for any misunderstanding. Honor was splintered moderately late into that 4500 year timeframe, if we include the time before the desolations stopped and the 2-2.5 millennia until the Recreance. Also, per Brandon, he "went after Ambition first, but didn’t find Ambition until after going after Devotion and Dominion." Let's continue. Anyone else, feel free to join in.

Identity of Trell and Senna wonderings(secret history spoilers)
The One Who Connects replied to Kolfire's topic in Mistborn
Sorry about that Spool. @Khyrindor, shall we take this into it's own thread? I have a full reply to your last post on copy/paste, so we will lose little to no momentum on the discussion -
The images themselves are (embossed?) into the pages that are Part 1, 2 and 3 of each Book. 4 and 5 are a repeat of 1 and 2. As for how we know which is for which Herald, the "hilt" of each Honorglyph(my faster term for them) is very similar to their respective KR Order Glyph Also, you appear to have quoted your original post as it's own post

Identity of Trell and Senna wonderings(secret history spoilers)
The One Who Connects replied to Kolfire's topic in Mistborn
I still feel that the mist could be a visual and/or natural effect of his power clashing with the other Shard's power. Just because he doesn't know for sure what it is doesn't automatically make it alien. He hasn't had another shard to test it on before now. Call it an while typing edit I guess: I just reread the scene with the Red Haze, and he does refer to it as "A representation. A crude one, perhaps" so it isn't technically as simple as I put it. There is mention of it being stopped by a thin strip of light however, which only leads to more questions... sigh The AU Spoiler is why I felt that it all being Autonomy was "too easy." I never really put stock into his mentioning them in the same breath, as it could just as easily be him putting them into the same sentence because its easier than separating them, especially since he does not go into much/any detail about why he has a grudge against them. Additionally, he still refers to them with names that they haven't really gone by in several millennia. It just feels that his grudge against them extends back to before the Shattering. By technicality, Odium went after pairs of Shards, as he was afraid something like Harmony to happen. Ambition is the odd one out as the primary target. He did not go after R&P because they were opposites and less of a danger. Meaning that his choice of D&D was motivated by his worry that they would combine sooner than Honor and Cultivation would. I bring this up because it runs counter to your point. You believe that he saw a want, perhaps a need, to have help on Sel, and in your theory he does the same for Scadrial, but he does not do this for Roshar, which doesn't make sense. I'm dragging this into point 3 now that I look at it. You don't think he could take D&D on his own, but he specifically tries to take out H&C on his own. I'm curious about this "events need to happen line though" as I've never seen that before. All I've seen is that Alloy Era takes place "at least after Stormlight 5" Not specifically in the gap between the halves. The problem(s) with Odium leaving after Stormlight 5 is that there is still 5 more books in that series, and I'm curious why you think he would go back. Actually now that I think about it, he'd have to properly break the Oathpact to leave. I don't really see that somehow happening in 3 books, especially since Taln(the one keeping the Oathpact alive) is set for the back half. -
Identity of Trell and Senna wonderings(secret history spoilers)
The One Who Connects replied to Kolfire's topic in Mistborn
Something I've seen recently (sometime in the past several hours) is the idea that the Red Mist is what Harmony is doing with the extra Ruin he has. As in the mist is a magical border keeping this other Shard out and/or the mist is a result of his power and this other Shard clashing. I like the idea, if only because I don't like it being Autonomy since it feels too easy. -

The One Who Connects replied to Harakeke's topic in Stormlight Archive
It might have been due to available space on the image, but the Ten on the image of Elhokar's Sword looked like simplified versions of the Order Glyphs. Perhaps they were based upon those or vice/versa depending on the timeline?- 379 replies

The WoB only says "Gold Compounder" so it would apply to any. And since Compounding is largely just super boosting the amount of Feruchemical attribute that is stored, if you had enough health, most likely yes. Additionally, he says most forms of extreme Cosmere healing, so it isn't even limited to just Feruchemy

It's somewhere in the Warbreaker Annotations (found it, chap 51) about the Manywar. Take of it how you will, but once Lifeless and Awakeners became more prevalent, I imagine that normal military style became less common. A crossbow would work pretty well against common soldiers, but against Lifeless? From the Coppermind article: I feel that it would take a bit more than a crossbow bolt to deal with something that can survive wounds like that. But you know, my opinion vs yours and all that..

Vivienna: ?? "It's not about what I 'think I know.' It's what I believe." Siri: ?? "There are great advantages to being unimportant" Susebron: The God King "All of those stories are just tales told by people who lived lives before ours." Vasher: Peacegiver (or Strifelover if you want) “You cannot tempt the hearts of men who are pure.” Lightsong: The Lazy God "Our names and titles are assigned randomly by a small monkey who has been fed an exceedingly large amount of gin." Vin: Ascendant Warrior Kelsier: Survivor of Hathsin Sazed: Hero of Ages works for both, but plain Sazed could be Keeper of Knowledge Are you doing him as plain Sazed or as Harmony? Tindwyl: TenSoon: Remarked Duplicity (reference to his actions, but it works) Elend: Marsh: Ironeyes (all the cliche on here) Human: Koloss Warrior? I've got nothing here Also just for my own curiosity, no Lord Ruler? Raoden: Spirit "He didn't need a potion or an Aon to save him, he just needed something to do." Serene: "You've been lonely before. You'll get through it. Just find something to occupy your mind." Hrathen: The High Priest "Someday they would call him their savior." Galladon: The Dula "I'm most recently from Elantris, land of sludge, insanity, and eternal perdition. Nice to meet you." Lastly, Szeth: The Assassin in White Option 1: "He comes. The One who Hates." Option 2: "What are you?" the man whispered, eyes watering with pain. "Death"

Stormlight Archive Translation Guide
The One Who Connects replied to Harakeke's topic in Stormlight Archive
I noticed that a while back, but without this location connection that belzedar pointed out, I figured that whether the chart referred to cultivation or Odium would be some key hint about the Diagram because of the symbol. That discussion didn't really go too far, but I'm glad I'm not the only on who noticed this- 379 replies

theory identity of Trell and Senna wonderings(secret history spoilers)
The One Who Connects replied to Kolfire's topic in Mistborn
Brandon's phrasing was literally something akin to him saying "What could he be doing with that extra power? hrmm..." and that ended that WoB entry. -
Some questions about Pewter Feruchemy and compounding.
The One Who Connects replied to Zantis's question in Cosmere Q&A
Double Pewter(Compounding) is the Feruchemical Effect though, which does increase physical size. So the assumption that they would be limited to skin expansion like Koloss is a logical premise. As Landis963 said, they are made with a human attribute. Specifically human strength. Technical nitpick(me being petty ), but as per Miles Marsh, there is between 200 and 300, not over 300. See Point 1. Limits of Compounding are limits of a purely Feruchemical nature. So I agree with this statement, but it is not particularly related to the current discussion. Edit 2: I recently reread the book, Elend specifically stated that he "wouldn't have had a chance to turn the blade aside, even with pewter helping him" -
A huge bunch of mistborn and cosmere metal questions
The One Who Connects replied to Fluffy's question in Cosmere Q&A
1. No direct answer, but I think Emotional Allomancy(blocked by copper) is on a different wavelength than altering Connection. I vote no, but have no proof. 2. Yata: Alloy Ars Arcanum put down a reduced awareness effect, so at least in their understanding, it does work that way. Fluffy, I don't think they could reach a point of being unnoticeable by reducing connection though As Spool said, compounding overwrites the Allomantic effect, so compounding Duralumin is no different than compounding Steel in the sense of this question. 4. Subject to debate. Being a Savant in Feruchemy on its own is impossible, because Savanthood has to do with adapting to the large amounts of Investiture flowing through you. Feruchemy has a much lower amount, since there is no external boost from Preservation like Allomancy. In proper compounding, you store the mass of boosted Feruchemical attribute to use later, at a normal/needed rate. So you cannot become a Compounder Savant through normal compounding either, as it's largely the same as normal Feruchemy. 4a. Feruchemy takes some steps to protect you from the effects of your investiture, ie: stronger bones to help with increased weight, resisting higher temperatures when tapping heat, etc.. so I imagine that Pewter Savant is definitely less healthy. 5. As Spool said, it is doable. Manipulating Connection in some way is also how Worldhoppers can speak mostly properly on other planets. 6. As several others have said, bronze can detect other magic systems, so it stands to reason that Copper could shield them from that detection, as that's how Copper works. But we do not have a list anywhere with what magics can/cannot be detected with Bronze, so it's a bit of a moot point. 7. Wakefulness is the only Feruchemical attribute that Era 2 Scadrial knows how to store while sleeping. This does not mean that it is the only one that can(though it's heavily assumed on here), but it may mean that nobody has figured out how to do it, just as nobody knew how to compound originally. 8. As others have said, Brandon has been closed-lipped about this. We have assumed (because of Hoid and gibletish) that it would not be the same Adonalsium if it were somehow reformed. 9. We have it from Brandon that Chromium leeching would not give a person metal poisoning, so I assume that Aluminum would get rid of all the metals. 10. I do not believe that it would affect Feruchemical stores. I imagine that if it did, they would have to be actively tapping their storage at the time. 10a. No. As Yata said, you can burn piercings. And, a female Mistborn could accidentally burn her copper IUD. 11. We don't know. Wait until Dragonsteel comes out for more answers. 12. Steal power? No. Take some/all of their power after the holder is killed, yes. Odium is relatively stronger because he took great effort not to get tied down to a planet, which takes some of the Shards investiture to do. His extended stay on Roshar has upset his plan, so how much power he has now compared to others is more debatable. 13. Different Senses are stored in different Tinminds, so compounding one would only boost that specific sense. 14. Odium has no connection to Aluminum. Aluminum ignores the rules of other magic systems, and does strange things anywhere. 15. Yata is right. Atium is impossible to find and Bendalloy is still too expensive for something like this. Indeed. Same apology here -

Guesses for future prologue perspectives?
The One Who Connects replied to PatronOfRot's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well, we are fairly certain it is a Herald, so it goes down to process of elimination. Cannot be Nale, he's person 2. Cannot be Taln, he's in hell. Should not be Jezrien, because he says that Szeth has "my lord's own blade" rather than "my own blade." That narrows it down to Kalak and Ishar. Per the carvings on the borders of the Surgebinding chart: Ishar has a beard and Kalak doesn't. Szeth describes mystery Herald as Alethi, and nothing more. Jasnah describes him as ... drat. Same thing: "he could've been Alethi." So no, we don't know for sure, but it's largely assumed for some reason. -
Oathbringer Prologue (spoilers)
The One Who Connects replied to Watcher of Truth's topic in Stormlight Archive
I forgot about that. I just sort-of assumed that he had been bought very recently, since she mentioned it in the prologue. Assassins seem like the type to think more in the here and now and/or the future rather than the past. I do agree with your interpretation that it might be missing a sentence or two. Our transcript isn't even complete anyway, so perhaps it's both something new and something garbled will solve everything- 138 replies

Movie Adaption of the Way of Kings
The One Who Connects replied to Nashan’Elin's topic in Stormlight Archive
They could also do that as a small teaser scene, somewhat like "The Night of the Doctor" mini-episode did for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special. I think I-1 could stay, if only for the Demoux & Galladon cameo. Granted, it wouldn't have as much impact if Mistborn/Elantris haven't been made at the time so... up for debate I guess? Point 3 seems like it got cut off, but if you mean more Dalinar vision story and less mindless battle scenes, then i agree with you -
Oathbringer Prologue (spoilers)
The One Who Connects replied to Watcher of Truth's topic in Stormlight Archive
Two things about this. Liss(WoR prologue) owned Szeth prior the that point and sold him, which I believe is where the Parshendi got him. Secondly, per the transcript of the reading, Eshonai knew that Klade's slave(Szeth) was an assassin, and that Klade claimed that "the voice" led her to him. These taken together could help with the timing. Liss sold him to Klade, maybe that morning or the day before the treaty because she was getting creeped out by Szeth, and Klade was interested in buying him because of the voice. Perhaps Liss had him wearing white for some reason, or Klade made him wear white once he mentioned his skills as an assassin, since it's part of their customs.- 138 replies

Dalinar bonded Honorblade Screamed
The One Who Connects replied to Lift--Wanderer's question in Cosmere Q&A
Jezrien's Honorblade (the one Szeth holds) is a moderate bit removed from the Honorglyph version(my own term, its faster to say). Same with Nalan's. No inscribed glyphs, no real ornamentation, etc.. They seem so much simpler in design than when Kalak describes them in the Prologue and in the images. So we may not have a proper reference image for his spike blade, assuming that that one actually was his Honorblade.- 14 replies
