Brandon and Book News

For those of us who are fans of the Mistborn Adventure Game, the long-awaited supplement Nobles: The Golden Mandate, is out now! This supplement adds new background and features for fans who want to play nobles that fight against the Lord Ruler or join a skaa thieving crew. The background to create the supplement comes from both the books and the Mistborn: House War supplement to create a rich tapestry of background for both Great Houses and lesser ones. A new, pre-written adventure titled “Thieves in the Ninth House” is also included in the sourcebook.

A couple of pieces of news for you today, loyal fans. First, a few of the extremely limited signed & numbered editions of Yumi and the Nightmare Painter and The Frugal Wizard's Handbook for Surviving Medieval England are now available. You have a couple of ways to snag a copy, but the deadline for this batch is Friday, August 11, 11:55 PM US Mountain Time, so you are going to have to act quickly! There are 3 copies of each up for grabs this round (out of a total of 50), so there will be more opportunities in the future.

Also, Brotherwise Games (the game company behind Call to Adventure: The Stormlight Archive and the upcoming Stormlight RPG) will be working on a deckbuilding game, also planned for 2024.

    Details after the break.

On today's news roundup, do you like covers? There are tons of new covers, for Skyward, Mistborn's rerelease, and the Tor edition of Tress. Let's start with Skyward news! Hot off the press, we have a cover reveal for Defiant, the fourth Skyward book, which comes out November 21st, 2023. We also have a synopsis!

At the Lost Metal release event, Brandon had an announcement regarding Secret Projects. Tor and Gollancz (Brandon's US and international publishers) will have sale links for the Secret Project physical editions that will appear in bookstores out on Wednesday, November 16th in the US. Each one will release after the Kickstarter, so for Secret Project 1, backers get it in January, but the Tor physical release in April. Secret project 2 will be June 2023, SP3 in October 2023, and SP4 January 2024.

At least in some parts of the world, The Lost Metal, the fourth and final book of Mistborn Era 2, is now out! It's midnight GMT, so that means at least Asia, Oceania, and Europe should have the book by now. Of course, ebooks and audiobooks can appear at different times, so Americans will need to wait a bit longer, potentially, but regardless, very soon the Lost Metal will no longer be lost. Hooray!

The Lost Metal, the fourth and final book of Mistborn Era 2, is finally here. It's been eleven years since the first one of these--the Alloy of law--came out in 2011, so we've been waiting quite a while. There's tons of ground for this book to cover, both in wrapping up Era 2 and setting up Mistborn Era 3, and this is definitely the longest of the Era 2 books by far. So how did it go?

Gamescom 2022, the annual multi-day video game trade show event, started their online reveals and announcements today, and - to the surprise of everyone - we saw a familiar face in one of those announcements! Brandon himself introduced Unknown Worlds' (the creators of the Subnautica games) new turn-based sci-fi digital tabletop strategy game. With minis you can paint? It's called Moonbreaker, and Brandon confirmed on Reddit that this is the project we've seen as Soulburner in a couple of his State of the Sanderson annual blog posts.

Follow us after the break for some more details and the reveal trailer!

Alas. We suspected that this would be the case for some time now, but it has finally be confirmed: Stormlight 5 won't be coming until 2024. Though the reason why certainly isn't quite what we expected... Brandon Sanderson did a Reddit AMA with subreddit r/books last week, and a question about the next planned Stormlight novella sparked a long answer in which Brandon finally confirmed what we all expected: the Stormlight 5 release just isn't going to happen in 2023.

Brandon went a step further though to clarify why Stormlight 5 has been a bit slow-going, and it's not primarily due to the Secret Projects or any other writing projects: it's movie and television stuff.

Packed update this week! It's been announced that the Dawnshard audiobook will release in August, a physical version of Secret History is up for preorder with a new cover, merchandise and badge pricing has been released for the Dragonsteel con this November, and r/books will be holding an AMA with Brandon this Thursday.

Two bits of news for you today! Firstly, Brandon will be doing a spoiler stream tomorrow at 6pm Mountain Time on his YouTube channel. You can post and vote for questions in this Reddit thread. Also, Dynamite has delayed when the White Sand omnibus will be released, with print editions going out in October, but digital editions in August.

The official US cover for the fourth Wax and Wayne book is here! The US publisher, Tor, have officially released the cover for The Lost Metal, designed and created by the talented Chris McGrath. This is the second of Brandon’s big publishers to release a cover design, with the UK cover being revealed on May 18th. As a reminder, the book releases November 15th in the UK and US (release dates in other regions and languages vary by publisher). Generally, hardcover, audiobook, and eBook are released at about the same time, and the US paperback a year later.

Brandon's UK publisher, Gollancz, has officially revealed the UK cover for the finale of the Wax and Wayne series, The Lost Metal! Additionally, the cover for the rerelease of the second Alcatraz vs the Evil Librarians book, The Scrivener's Bones, has also been revealed!

Brandon's holding a contest to design an Alcatraz vs the Evil Librarians-themed T-shirt! Also, the wonderful folks over at Cosmere.es interviewed Brandon's art director Isaac in the wake of the White Sand omnibus releasing in Spain.

Publisher's Weekly has revealed the cover for Bastille vs. The Evil Librarians, the final entry in Brandon's Alcatraz series! Bastille is cowritten with Janci Patterson, co-author of the Skyward Flight novellas, and is due to release September 20th. Additionally, the print collection of said novellas is out, and Brandon and Janci shared a bit about what Skyward will look like going forwards.

You've been waiting for a physical editions for the three Skyward Flight novellas that came out late last year, and today Skyward Flight: The Collection is out! You can get a hardcover or an ebook with all three of the novellas: Sunreach, ReDawn, and Evershore. The hardcover is just $20 on Amazon (and about the same price on Barnes and Noble), with the ebook at $12. You can also get a signed hardcover off Brandon's store, or get the Gollancz paperback off Book Depository.

It's been a couple of months since Evershore, the last Skyward Flight novel(la), came out, and Dragonsteel is getting ready for the launch of the omnibus edition on April 5. Today, "getting ready" means a few new appropriately themed store items that will become available for preorder on March 14. Plus, Brandon's weekly(-ish) update video told us that The Lost Metal revisions (that's draft 3, incorporating beta feedback, for those of you keeping track) are now up to 60%. And finally, the physical edition of Dawnshard is now available in bookstores - good luck to those of you waiting for the audiobook, hopefully yours will be on the way soon!
