Citadel16 he/him Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Not much longer...soon. Soon, you will taste true freedom. 3
The Invested Beard Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason. 3
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 I have to plan my trip to New Orleans. Time off from work. Dates. Flights. Rental cars. Hotels. I am so nervous. And I can't shake the feeling that the JPL hates me for some reason. Halp

(And seriously, if JPL hated you, they wouldn't have hired you. The brain weasels are back!) 1

It's just….I emailed them yesterday to say that I was fine without an offer letter, and they haven't gotten back to me, and I'm wondering if I said something wrong. I know they're probably just busy, but I'm still nervous.
Orlion Blight he/him Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Thanks. I know they're probably just busy, but I'm still nervous. More like there's no reason to respond. There's no question to answer, no point to clarify, nothing except maybe a "ok" or "affirmative".So I wouldn't worry too much about that.

The Invested Beard Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 [Rob Schneider voice] You can do eet! [/Rob Schneider voice] But seriously, everything you've posted so far has given me nothing but good vibes about the whole situation. Having been in the position of the people looking to hire you I can tell you that no answer on that last correspondence is not really a bad thing. I know it's scary stepping out and doing something big and new, but it will be all the more worth it when you look back in a few months and think, "Did all of this really work out this well? Amazing." 1
Kaymyth she/her Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 I am >thisclose< to skipping our local costuming convention to go JordanCon instead. I haven't bought any memberships yet. I could do it. Also, the friends who introduced me to Sanderson are going and keep trying to tempt me into it.

The Invested Beard Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Ah parents. They love us, but they also LOVE US.
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Ah parents. They love us, but they also LOVE US. If this were a job in, say, Seattle, and the situation was exactly the same, they'd be celebrating. "How soon are you flying up there? What are you going to wear? Are you excited? We're excited! This so awesome!" But since it's Louisiana, I get "Are you sure you want to do this?" and "You realize they could still choose not to hire you." Yes. I realize that. But now that you've gotten all suspicious about it, I've realized I don't care. I'd thank her, but that'd get me into trouble.
The Invested Beard Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Yeah, from my own experience some of the best lessons you learn from your parents are the ones that you don't ever really talk to them about.
