It'd be really simple, really. Stick with what you know and merely hint at everything else.

I mean, that's all Rowling did to begin with. Stick with a British Boarding School model, invent what you need, mine inconsistencies/vague things in later installments and drop other aspects entirely.

With that imo lazy world building, she created what attracted folks to the series: a sense of wonder and discovery.

World building wise, I think the fandom puts in waaay more effort than Rowling ever did.

That's more or less what I was planning to do, borrowing more from urban legends (Sasquatch, Black-Eyed Kids, Mothman) and hinting at the things I don't feel I have permission to borrow from (Native American stories). Still, I worry.

And having been on Fanfiction.net back in the heyday following DH, I can say that yes, the fandom puts waaayyyy more thought into the worldbuilding than is seen in canon.

I'm almost ready to move back to AZ this weekend! Just a few more things to pack, and I'll be good. You never realize how much stuff you own until you start packing. I felt like books were constantly spawning around my room when my back was turned. Also found my original Pokemon handbook, so that was a good day! Lol

I'm pretty sure books do spawn whenever someone's back is turned. It's probably the only way I ever find mine. :P

I think they form portals between rooms. Whenever someone is looking for a particular book it portals its way into the room of someone who is packing books. Only returning when you're no longer looking for it.

So that when you're packing books, you get distracted and forget to pack! Books are evil. (But I won't stop reading so I don't care)

Just so long as your books aren't full of vashta nerada, they can't be that evil.

I got a notification saying Twi had posted on here, but she hasn't. . . .

Weird. I thought there was a Twi post here a second ago, but when I came back it was gone...

This definitely happened to me! I found some old Animorphs books that I used to read as a kid, 2 hours later I had gone through like 5 of them before I realized how much time had passed. Lol

1. My RL friend Skylar is a expert Archer/Knife-fighter/Survivalist. (She has won awards in several state competitions.)

2. My RL friend Skylar, and the rest of my RL friends are all comic book fans.

3. We do not know how a couple of crimes were stopped recently. Official information merely says that 'anonymous sources' lead to the arrest of several criminals.

These three fact lead us to joking about how Skylar is obviously a masked Vigilante, and her laughing it off. Then, being the Genre-Savvy, tropers that we all are, we realized that we were at the moment in the comic book where the hero is desperately trying to convince her/his friends that 'No, i'm not Spider Man. Just because you never see us at the same time, and I look like him doesn't make me him.'

Conclusion: I am friends with a Proto-Superhero, and have volunteered to be the token evil teammate.

It's not official until you both have costumes and names.

And on this cliffhanger ending, thread is now locked.
