The Good: I got new glasses! :D

The Bad: I can't wear them for more that 30 seconds at a time, as the updated prescription is making my head spin.

ETA: Better now. But rrgh this is weird.

I told you about how my new glasses made me feel taller on my right side, right? New prescriptions are weird.

Eventually, it means you will be able to see. That is good, I think.

Is it weird that I read a story set in medieval times where one character needed glasses but they weren't really invented yet and it really was bad for his job as an apothecary and I wished I could travel into the book and give him one of my old pairs?

I think about that a lot.

Possibly? :P

What book is it?

First it was Infinity Blade, then Alcatraz, after that Reckoners, and now Warbreaker.

My brother is slooowly becoming an unwilling Sanderfan . . .

And Stormlight. That's what really got me into the Cosmere, but that might be because SHALLAN.

But...but...but WAYNE!

Batman villain logic:

"They called me crazy... said my experiments on the psychological effects of fear were out of line, unscientific, and immoral! But I'll show them how wrong they were. And I'll show them by dressing as a scarecrow and poisoning the city water supply with my nightmare toxin! That'll teach 'em who has the moral high ground!"

Dont make me put those two against each other. I love them both.

I prefer the faster pace of Mistborn to the grandness of Stormlight though.

Okay, so I had a thought, and I need your guys' opinions.

My parents might be trying to convince me the Metarie job is a scam because they think the Spokane job (well, they think I applied for 2, but I only applied for the one ) might still give me a call back. If I told them I'd gotten a "thanks but no thanks" email from Spokane, do you think it'd make them ease up a little? Or should I just weather this storm until I can get out of here?

Also, Stormlight and Mistborn are both fantastic, and while I adore Wayne, Shallan and I are just so similar.

Well, if you're talking about the job they think you applied for and didn't, telling them that the place chose not to hire you is technically true...

I just love how your parents have decided that Metarie is a scam because they don't like the location.  And by love, I mean hate with the fire of a thousand suns.

(Shallan is sort of the poster child for toxic crazy parents.  I see why you identify with her.)

But KELSIER!!!!

I might just have the teensiest little crush on Wayne.  Maybe.  Probably.  Definitely.

(And back in the days when Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda was on the air, I had a crush on Harper.  I can't help it.  I have a type.)

I have two things to say Twi:

Your parents do not care about reason or your desire. Any obstacle to their vision of how you should live your life will be ignored. You could show them a certified letter from Spokane that says, "We believe she should work in New Orleans!" And it would only be proof that they were about to hire you if you only wait and sign away your soul. It's like that sci-fi title: "No Truce With Kings", and your parents seem to think themselves royalty. You just let them know this is what you want, and if they don't like it, they can eat a bucket of raspberries, or something.

Secondly: Shallan is great and superior to Wayne.

I agree wholeheartedly with Orlion's statement here.

But . . . Raspberries are delicious. I would definitely eat a bucket of them.

I get the feeling you mean something else, but I wouldn't know what.

Edit: And Wayne has his great moments and stuff, but I'd take Shallan's wittiness over one of Wayne's dirty jokes any day.

Twi, is ignoring your parents an option here? They're just trying to keep you at home and they can feel you slipping free from their fingers so they're piling irrational argument upon irrational argument to keep you there. That's what it looks like from here.

I'm pretty sure they see the US as 49 states of "not Spokane" and one state of "has Spokane in it."

(I find myself identifying with a lot of characters raised in toxic environments.

Yeah….you're right. Giving them a reason to stop hoping for Spokane won't help. -_-

But they like raspberries. Cactus fruit, maybe. It'd remind them of Arizona.

Only when they're not burying me in unsolicited advice. <_< But yeah, taking it and letting it slide off is probably the best option here. They're not going to back down from their position, and I won't back down from mine, so I'll just play "Let it Go" until I'm able to get out.

I can't be the only nerd who's dying for a nice set of Argonath bookends... am I?

Not anymore. I'd never thought about it before, though.

EDIT: WHAT? Kobold's mother is on the forum?

I am simultaneously amused by this and feeling sympathy for him.
