phattemer Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Yeah, the first four in the second series weren't too bad. The fifth though...
+Slowswift Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Okay so apparently I missed something?! Everyone seems to hate Blood of Olympus, and I don't know why...
phattemer Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Well, I don't know about you, but it seemed like it crammed way too many plots into one book. Not to mention the LITERAL dei ex machina.
natc Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 I have a copy of Blood of Olympus that I forgot to read. Should I?
+Slowswift Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 I have a copy of Blood of Olympus that I forgot to read. Should I? In my opinion, yes.
phattemer Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 If you've read the first four, it is worth it to read Blood. You might not like it, but maybe you will.
Xaladin he/him Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 When you have memorized the prologue to The Way of Kings. Disclaimer: I have not done this; I only have the first sentence memorized, but it is Awesome! 1
Delightful Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 When you have memorized the prologue to The Way of Kings. Disclaimer: I have not done this; I only have the first sentence memorized, but it is Awesome! Szeth-son-son-Vallano, truth less of Shinovar, wore white on the night he was to kill the king. 5
SmurfAquamarineBodies he/him Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Szeth-son-son-Vallano, truth less of Shinovar, wore white on the night he was to kill the king. Tell me truthfully. Are you human or some kind of cyborg?
Xaladin he/him Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Szeth-son-son-Vallano, truth less of Shinovar, wore white on the night he was to kill the king. Szeth-son-son-Vallano, Truthless of Shinovar, wore white on the day he was to kill a king. 7
Allomancy she/her Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Okay so apparently I missed something?! Everyone seems to hate Blood of Olympus, and I don't know why... I know. I liked them. There was some weird stuff though. It's a bit . . . Easy though. I read it the first series in one day... so. . . Yeah. . . 4
Redbird he/him Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 You know who else is lurking in the shadows and brandishing a knife? Vin, just saying. 4
Delightful Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 (edited) Tell me truthfully. Are you human or some kind of cyborg?Human. All human. Possibly some pure awesome mixed in, but I can't be sure about that. . Szeth-son-son-Vallano, Truthless of Shinovar, wore white on the day he was to kill a king.I stand corrected. Unknowingly he/him Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 *sweats nervously* I... erm... actually really liked both series... *runs in opposite direction* I liked them the first time i read them, but i was 12-14 so... when i look at them now i just find the writing super simplified and the stories are very predictable. I don't think they are good reads for anybody over the age of 15. The fact that my library promotes these books and ignores Brandon disappoints me though 2
Allomancy she/her Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 You know you're a sanderfan when you are either doodling characters from his books or you are reading one.
Unknowingly he/him Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 You know that you are a Sanderfan when you have unrealistic expectations for any other authors. It doesn't matter what the expectation is(fast Writing speed; great characterisation; in depth world-building; a multi-layered story; unpredictable story twists; etc..) because almost all other authors just cant keep up. 5

It doesn't matter what the expectation is(fast Writing speed; great characterisation; in depth world-building; a multi-layered story; unpredictable story twists; etc..) because almost all other authors just cant keep up. Brandon is seriously the ultimate writer. There's hardly a single aspect of writing that anyone does better than him. 6
Redbird he/him Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 When you wish your girlfriend had read Elantris, so she would understand Aon Omi. 6

Mistrunner Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 When your computer crashes for some reason and you're panicking because you can't get on 17th Shard. On the topic of Riordon, I haven't read Blood of Olympus yet. The reason? I can't bring myself to, not yet. I read his first series about when it came out and thought they were okay. (I actually like them more now. They just weren't quite in my range of interest then.) Then (somewhat) recently I tried his books again with the Kane Chronicles and the new Percy Jackson series and I liked them. Then I read the third book in that series and realized: Riordan is reaching. His jokes are forced and at times even make the plot unbelievable. He's now stretching out that one idea- ancient gods and goddesses in the modern world- as far as he can, and it's wearing thin. That's my opinion on them. Of course, I'm really, really picky when it comes to books. It's probably Sanderson's awesomeness. 4

I've heard people say the reason they disliked the Heroes of Olympus series is because he didn't allow for breaks, and burned out. I still love them, I just have to be in a specific mood to read them. Like most things, actually. 1

Coincidentally, that's one reason I love Brandon Sanderson's books. They hold up under all my weird analyzation. Edit: And yes, Slowswift, if a psychiatrist read these threads we would all be thrown straight to the loony bin. Wait... No, just pray they don't get onto this website...
