Or Worse, Expelled!: A Harry Potter Mafia Game

Welcome to MR76! I'm your Headmaster, @Archer. Our Caretaker is IM @A Jo in the Bush.

Our start date is 20:00 EST (GMT -4) on Wednesday, March 25th.

Gameplay:

Round Zero

You arrived late to your first day at Hogwarts. After Professor McGonagall rebukes your tardiness, she ushers you to a now-empty Great Hall and rouses the Sorting Hat from its slumber.

This is a roleplay round. You must declare your House assignment in your GM PM, lest you be assigned to the smallest House.

Rollover Zero

House PMs are created. These are the only PMs in the game.

Alignments are now assigned:

Loyal Students: Win by expelling all members of the other team.

Death Eater Students: Win by reaching parity with the other team. Conspire in Elim Doc. Can kill one student each round as a free action. Once during the game, one elim without a spell prepared may immediately learn a non-Obliviate spell. If an elim is removed in Cycle One or Two, one elim without a spell prepared may immediately learn a vote manipulation spell. (Spells can be learned and used in the same round.)

Round One

Prefect Voting

This round only, players vote in their House PMs for their House Prefect. Largest House elects two. Standard SE voting style, voting in red, with ties broken randomly. Prefect voting results are announced in House PMs only. These votes can not be affected by spells. The most voted for student may secretly choose an Extra Credit spell to learn and use once as early as Round Two. Only one spell may be held at a time. Prefect assignments come before the removals in OOO.

House Points Voting (Exe)

During the investigation, you convince your House’s Head Professor to reward your allies and dock House Points from your foes. What an easily abused demerit system! The most penalized students might be killed, or worse, expelled!

Players cast up to six votes* in their GM PM, all for different people: +3/+2/+1/-1/-2/-3.

The rollover post will list the (modified) points accumulated by each student and, for reference, who each player voted for, pre-modification.

Players may be penalized or rewarded based on their points total for the round:

Lowest: Expelled! Player removed from game and alignment revealed.

2nd Lowest: Detention! Next round, either your positive or negative votes will not be counted (decided randomly). The effect is visible in the tallied points but not announced to anyone.

3rd Lowest: Homework! You are forbidden from sending PMs for the next round, but may receive messages. Applies to House PMs and Owl Mail only.

3rd Highest: Friendship! You are added to an additional, random House PM. If you have been removed, you are not allowed to speak in it.

2nd Highest: Owl Mail! You may receive one uncredited message of under 100 words from each player who was just removed. Players enter the Spec Doc after sending their message, or at the end of the round if not participating. GM sends message as soon as received.

Highest: Extra Credit! You learn the spell of your choice to use once in a future round. Learning a spell makes you forget any previously learned spell, including those learned by Prefects. Order of operations is as listed, followed by the simultaneous removals, then spell learning:

Obliviate: Secretly make a player forget the spell they know; no one is informed of the outcome.

Protego: Prevent a player from being killed by the Death Eaters. No one will be told if the spell has any effect; it is indistinguishable from no kill being submitted.

Silencio: Randomly make either a player’s positive or negative votes cast that round not be counted. Effect not announced to anyone, but is reflected in the tallied points.

Stupefy: Randomly make either a player’s positive or negative votes not be counted until the following round. Effect not announced to anyone, but is reflected in the tallied points. Votes for already-removed players are not carried over. Votes are considered cast in the round they were made by the player, not in the round they appear.

Example:

Spoiler

Example: Harry is killed Round Two. That round, Ginny voted for +3 Ginny/+2 Harry/-3 Draco. Her votes are Stupified, randomly suppressing the +3 Ginny/+2 Harry votes until Round Three.

Only -3 Draco is added to the tallies.

Next round, she votes +2 Ginny/+1 George/-2 Ron. Her votes are Silencioed that round, randomly suppressing her positive +2 Ginny/+1 George votes cast that round.

Only +3 Ginny-2 Ron are added to the tallies that round. The Harry vote is not carried over.

*Additional Exe Voting Rules

> Self voting is not allowed.

> Ties are broken randomly, bumping the player not selected to the next tier.

> Your GM will do his best to correctly interpret your voting intentions, but there is no recourse for miscommunication.

Round One Rollover

This round only, Prefect voting results are announced in House PMs.

Rules Clarifications:

Spoiler

> What are the Houses?

You've got time to read the book before the game starts.

>What's the order of actions?

If you are awarded a spell by Prefect or Extra Credit, you must declare your selection by the next rollover, or take random selection. You can use it that rollover, or save it for future use.

Obliviate affects spells that were earned previously, which could include those declared in the same rollover that Obliviate is cast. Therefore, a Prefect could immediately target another Prefect during the next rollover, erasing their spell before it is cast. (Obliviate only affects the elim factional spell if it's actively being cast that cycle.)

> Would you declare that the NK targeted the same person removed by the exe?

Yes.

So, amazing puns, absolutely love them. I’m trying to convince my sister to join. And going over the Rp, we can’t find book 3(we’re searching for it still)

I’d like to join as Trance btw

Hell yeah. Always wanted to attend Hogwarts.

I’ll be Orpheus ‘Ory’ Grey. 5th year. I assume I PM the GM for which house I want to be in, for reason?

Trance stumbled through the wall, the bricks snapping together behind him. He turned towards the wall in surprise, jumping away.

Seeing as the wall was no longer moving, Trance shivered, “I’m never getting used to that”

He looked at the small bag of coins in his hands. Small. Light. He sure hoped it was enough, he still didn’t have a handle on the prices.

”I think I need a wand, right? I’ll start with that”

Trance wandered along the street, gaping at the magic on display. Each shop had something moving in front of it. A broom was making its way through the alley, sweeping all by itself.

Entering a storefront, he went over to the counter, peaking his head over the wooden board, “Uhm.. I… I was wondering… if you had… some potion ingredients? My… uh, my list says I need a cauldron”

The man on the other side looked up from stocking the shelves, “Ah, I see, new to the wizarding world, are you?

”y-yeah”

”Don’t worry mate, I’ve got you covered. Now, normally your old’ standerd cauldron costs about three galleons, but, since it’s your first time, I’ll drop it to two galleons and twenty-one sickles”

”The gold ones are galleons, and silver sickles, right?”

(If you want to intervene, go ahead, or you can let Trance be scammed out of some sickles. For context, Trance’s mother was a squib, and his mother a muggle, so he’s new to all this. His mother isn’t here because she’s deathly afraid of meeting a wizard who knows she’s a squib. Anyways, pop in if you’d like)

(Edit: his last name is Vigon)

(edit2: the amount of spelling mistakes I made is astronomical)

Sure why not?

Joining as Vera Coran, the daughter of Someone Important in the Ministry of Magic (I haven’t read the books in a while so I don’t really remember how the government works)

Vera, too, had been stopped in at the cauldron shop, looking over several fancier models with a gaggle of her friends, when she heard the shopkeeper’s exchange with Trance.

“Now hold on one moment, sir,” she says rather haughtily. “An upstanding shopkeeper such as yourself ought to know the exchange rates. So either you aren’t very good at your job, or you’re trying to scam this person out of four sickles. Which would it be?”

The man, upon being caught in his duplicity, scrambles to recover. “Right, uh, must have forgotten about that. Uh, how about two galleons, thirteen sickles?”

Vera flashes a brilliant smile at him. “Sounds delightful. Oh, and I’ll be taking that one there.” She points to a different model, setting four galleons on the counter before sweeping away.

She turns back then, almost as an afterthought, and says to Trance, “Oh, and, you’re welcome. Just so you know, it’s 17 sickles to a galleon.”

Trance nodded, “uh, thank you. I’m… new to this”

He put the coins on the counter, trying to mimic her. He grabbed the cauldron the storekeeper shoved at him, trying not to drop it. “I suppose I should get going…”

“I.. have to get the rest of my stuff…”

Or Worse, Expelled!: A Harry Potter Mafia Game

2nd Lowest: Detention! Next round, either your positive or negative votes will not be counted (decided randomly). The effect is visible in the tallied points but not announced to anyone.

Leokadius left the Gringots Bank, he had exchanged his Eisenkeilers to the British Currency, which had horrendos conversions between its coins.

Aside from his wand his parrents had insisted that he buy his school supplies here and they were probably right, the standards and regulations would certainly differ from each other, not to mention the Nightmare it would be trying to get the english Schoolbooks in Germany.

He turned his attention to the Bokkshop, Flourish and Blots, and entered looking for all the Books he would need for this school year.

(If someone wants to meet Leokadius at the Bookstore, go ahead.)

Welcome to SE! I'll PM everyone when the game begins, at which point you may declare your house choice. Round Zero largely exists as an opportunity for roleplay and to coordinate house choices, if you so choose. If people are quick on the draw, I might shorten Zero and add the extra time to Round One.

Azalea Blackwood tossed five galleons across the counter, nodding to a silver cauldron with sapphire inlays. One of the attendants scrambled to package it up for her.

She paused, glanced at the nervous first-year that Vera had spoken to. Could've been cute, if he wasn't cringing and obviously out of his depth. She rolled her eyes. Tossed him another galleon. "Nice people like us aren't always going to be around. Learn quick, yeah?"

A pause. "Preferably, not around us, for now. Maybe after you buy decent robes and a haircut."

She turned back to Vera. "Now come on! Books, custom robe fittings, familiars, then the salon. I've booked us two hours and we shouldn't be late!"

Description: Azalea has long, waist-length dark hair, sharp grey eyes, and the grace and smile of someone who bad things have never happened to ever.

He tried to exit quickly, but the weight of the cauldron slowed him down. Everyone seemed to know more than him, hopefully the next places would be nicer.

“seventeen to a galleon” he repeated to himself as he made it out of the storefront, “seventeen”

"Vera, if you try and help every clueless idiot we come across, we'll never get our shopping done on time!"

“Oh, but he’s just so clueless! Who wouldn’t want to help someone like him? Besides,” her voice drops to a whisper. “Now he owes me. And isn’t that nice?”

She sends another dazzling smile to Trance before turning away and sweeping out the door. “Well off we go then, we need to get done before all the good stuff is taken.”

Description: average height, maybe a little on the tall side, but not much. Blonde hair (warm blonde) and brown eyes. Dressed in very nice clothes and has her hair done, etc. Clearly cares a lot about her appearance.

I look forward to meeting Miss Fallen

I’ll have to convince her to have her name be that.

However, considering that we both live in the same house that might be a problem. I feel confident about not telling her anything, idk about how she feels about it. I have told her that we’d have to be careful about it and such, which she understood, but if I do get her to join, I wanted to make sure you knew

Renzik ended the hyperjump and appeared here. The varvax looked around, confused. This is not the place Zinwik had described to the Department of Protective Services. The people here looked... different. Zinwik had spoken of ash falling from the sky, and pieces of metal flying around everywhere. This did not look like that at all. Maybe the people had finally figured out planetary weather control? But no, their civilisation was on the brink of collapse when Zinwik visited.

Renzik was starting to think that Zinwik had lied, only he couldn't figure out what he would gain from doing so. There must be something more.

He pondered this, and kept his mindblades at the ready.

I'm still spectating; I'll just be RPing Renzik for now. He's an alien from cytoverse, he looks like this:

Zinwik is from... LG109 I think? The Lords of Luthadel.

So for Appearance,

Leokadius is about average height, has pale skin, Black hair and and Brown Eyes. If his parents dont pester him, he will usually wear very simple clothing, nothing Flashy. With one exception, you will Always See him with a Cape that Features his families coat of Arms, three Red fishes on a white background. He will fight people about that Cape, the only time he doesnt wear it, is when he visits the muggle World, which isnt very often.
