“You’ve lost.”
Preservation smirked, snatching up Ruin’s last spiked piece from the board.
“Yet again,” the god clarified. “It would seem that your fabled ‘curse’ just doesn’t have real teeth nowadays.”

Ruin growled and grumbled something inaudible, ever always easy to rile up. But he remained seated. He didn’t lash out, didn’t flip the table or storm out. Carefully, he picked up each of the pieces and put them away. There was an air of ritual to the movements. The game was sacred, as any game played between them must be.

“A lucky turn of fate,” Ruin insisted. “Let’s play again.”
He had agreed to the rules of the game, helped shape them even. He didn’t go back on his word. He glared at his betrayer, who had once sought to imprison him. But all things have ends, even prisons. Even uppity gods.

“Another round, of course,” Ruin’s counterpart agreed easily, beginning to set up the pieces anew.
“I’ll keep going,” Ruin pressed. “Until you slip up. I am patient.”
“Something we have in common,” Preservation murmured. “You won’t tear down what we built together.”
It was a long familiar quarrel, played out over eons, but it never lost its edge.
Hence the game. Structure and civility, imposed over bloody conflict.

“Don’t you ever grow tired of it all? Playing the same old game, again and again?” Ruin wondered. “The same struggles, the same dramas, the same ill-fated town?”
“Never,” Preservation replied dreamily. “Why would I?”
Ruin snorted.
“Well, too bad. I’m bored. Doing the same thing over and over… It’s enough to drive a person mad.”
“That ship already sailed a long, long time ago,” Preservation opined.
“Indulge my madness, then. For this next game, at least. I’ve shown admirable restraint when it comes to changing the terms thus far.”
“What did you have in mind?” Preservation adopted a put-upon demeanor, but was there a hint of genuine interest buried in the question? Even Ruin wasn’t sure.
“Oh, nothing too extreme. Just a little twist.”
Ruin smiled.
“Let me explain the rules…”

Rules (Google Doc)

Spoiler

Core Rules

Spoiler

Two vote minimum. Ties decided randomly.
24 hour days, 24 hour nights.

Factions

Spoiler

Villagers - Win by eliminating all Spiked.
Spiked - Win by eliminating all Villagers.
The game ends early if one of these conclusions becomes practically inevitable.

Hemalurgic Spikes

Spoiler

The Spiked are a coordinated team of infiltrators, and as such, they enjoy several abilities that Villagers do not have. They have a secure google doc in which to communicate, collaborate, and collude. They may attack a player every night. Finally, the Spiked may engage in a spot of hemalurgy before the game starts.

To those ends, the Spiked get to enter their google doc on Night 0, a special 24-hour pre-game phase during which the thread isn’t open and no actions may be taken. The sole purpose of this phase is for the Spiked to decide amongst themselves how to use their hemalurgy.

By default, all allomantic abilities appear exactly once in the game and will be given to villagers. The Spiked get to make changes to that state of affairs in targeted ways during Night 0, creating the distro that the game will actually use. Of course, there’s not enough time or resources to do everything. Each alteration to the distro costs points. They get 21 to budget around.

A spike is first and foremost a weapon, and the most crude and basic use of spikes is just to stab an allomancer to death, ensuring they do not appear in the game.

Commit a little more of your resources, though, and you can instead harvest the ability via hemalurgy to ensure it does appear in the hands of a Spiked.

Roles will be randomly distributed to players after the Spiked have had their fun meddling. Any allomancer that gets killed before this point was an NPC, due to the fabulous storytelling magic of retroactive continuity. If the Spiked steal more abilities than they have players, then some of their members will receive multiple abilities. Multiple spikes might be a bad idea for most people, but you've already got Ruin inside your head, you can't really go any more crazy after that.

(There’s also one Night 0 action that’s completely free: the Spiked may choose to tempt fate by donating additional roles of their choosing to the village. The only real limitations on Preservation’s power are those imposed by Ruin, and vice versa. If Ruin doesn’t oppose it, then granting additional allomancy to the village is trivial. This is usually a bad idea, of course, but never say you didn’t get options!)

Roles

Spoiler

(This game uses Tyrian roles. Smokers are very minorly changed but otherwise everything is completely standard. Even if you're familiar with Tyrian roles, you might still want to look over this section for the prices of different things though.)

THUG: The Thug can survive a single attack. If they are killed during a night or day cycle, they survive and this will be revealed in the write up. If they are attacked again, they die… finally.
(Costs 2 to remove, 7 to steal.)

TINEYE: The Tineye is a messenger and is capable of writing messages to the town while remaining anonymous. Each night, they can send a message to the Game Master. The GM will then post it within the write up at the start of the next Day. As long as a Tineye is alive, players can send Private Messages back and forth. Once no Tineye is alive, they can no longer deliver messages, so no more PMs.
(Costs 4 to remove, 4 to steal.)

SMOKER: The Smoker is undetectable and they can extend this power to one other person. If scanned by a Seeker, the smoker or the person encompassed within their coppercloud will show up as being Smoked. Additionally, the Smoker and their target are unaffected by emotional Allomancy. A Soother or Rioter cannot change their vote. Smoking can be initiated on either a Day or Night turn, but it lasts a full cycle, and you can only smoke again once it is finished.
(Costs 1 to remove, 3 to steal.)

SEEKER: The Seeker can sense when someone is burning metals. In fact, they have gotten so good that they can tell whether someone is spiked or not! Once per night, the Seeker can target someone to learn their abilities and alignment.
(Costs 6 to remove, 8 to steal.)

COINSHOT: The Coinshot does what they do best. They push metals around; specifically into other people’s bodies. Once per night, the Coinshot can target a person for death. Unless otherwise disrupted, that person dies.
(Costs 4 to remove, 21 to steal.)

LURCHER: Where the Coinshot pushes, the Lurcher pulls. Once per night the Lurcher can target someone and that person will be saved from death. A Lurcher cannot target the same person two nights in a row.
(Costs 4 to remove, 6 to steal.)

SOOTHER: Their ability to dampen emotions puts them in a very special position. During the Day, they can negate one person’s vote. The change will be anonymous, but since voting results will be posted at the end of each day, those that are observant should be able to tell what votes were changed.
(Costs 1 to remove, 8 to steal.)

RIOTER: The Rioter works in a similar fashion as the Soother, except once during the day round they can change one person’s vote. Using this power does nullify their own vote though. They are still capable of voting, but their vote will not be counted. The change will be anonymous, but since voting results will be posted at the end of each day, those that are observant should be able to tell what votes were changed.
(Costs 1 to remove, 8 to steal.)

MISTBORN: They have the abilities of all of the above, but will only be able to use one per cycle. At the beginning of every day, the Mistborn will be told which ability they have and they can use that ability until the next night. If a previously held power would be received, the die is rerolled, and the new power is granted regardless of whether or not it was previously held.
(Costs 3 to remove, 7 to steal.)

Activity Policy

Spoiler

Sometimes life be that way and you can't play even though you thought you could and signed up. Pls try and avoid that outcome of course but y'know it happens sometimes. If you don’t seem to be around, I’ll shoot you a message at some point asking what’s up and if you’re able to keep playing. If you answer “no” or I don’t hear back, then I assume you'll be dropping out of the game.

The default way of handling this is that you will be removed with only a role flip. A random teammate will receive a permanent extra vote. If you were Spiked, your role abilities will also be reclaimed and granted to a different elim, because hemalurgy.

Sometimes, you might be replaced by a pinch-hitter instead, but please don’t count on that happening.

Edit: Oh, right.

Night 0 of the game will start in a week. Almost exactly to the hour.

At this time, to be precise. Rollovers will also be at that time.

Edit^2: Ookla Season Guidelines: The powers that be have graciously stipulated that if you're changing / have changed your name, you ought to put your original username somewhere else that's still clearly visible. Your member title or the top of your signature is good. Thank you. This will doubtless help avoid some confusion when it comes to keeping track of everything.

A week? that's finals time...

Can i be the NPC that dies in the begining? 0.0

If I can, have the NPC be called Your Mistakes

if that doesn't work, consider this my apology for not being able to make it to the SE game.

I’ll join as Hail, This sounds fun

I keep imagining someone shouting the name to get his attention, and then all the people nearby being so confused and hail him as if he’s royalty. Y'all probably don’t find that funny, but I do, its hilarious. : )

This game is being run between terms of school. Its why i'm back.

Drake, can the spiked 'donate' multiple copies of the same role? Like, say, save money on not removing the seeker by instead donating 100 smokers to the village?

(All coinshot game when?)

A good question!

So, you can donate multiple copies of the same role, but there is an upper limit in practice

There can't be more total roles assigned to the village than there are players on the village team

So you could certainly make every roleless villager into a smoker, but after that you would sadly not be able to fit more smokers into the distro

nice! ive missed tyrian so im in. dunno whats twisted about it yet, will find out once/if i read the rules glgl ❤️

tl;dr it's Normal Tyrian except the role distro isn't picked by the GM it's picked by the Spiked on a point buy system
